Faith- it does last and you can use it 20 times without a problem.

Faith you are right, they should totally teach that in schools, so many people give no thought to leaving it until their 30's, often mid 30's due to work commitment, financial issues, stability etc, and realistically most people these days are not in that secure position until their mid 30's after building their careers, meeting the right person and saving up to buy a house, which is harder and much more drawn out process than the olden days (10% deposit on an average house being £20,000 is not easy to find!) So being ready at say, 35, is fairly average these days, leaving just a 5 year window for fertility. Our children need to be aware of this deadline. I will certainly be having the talk with my daughter when she's older, as early menopause runs in our family too.

Thanks Orchid. X
Cleo we need to start a campaign! When I win the lottery.... !

@Cleo - it raises your % chance per cycle from around 5% at our age to around 15 - 20% assuming your hormone levels are ok. This is mainly because it stimulates you to produce more eggs than the natural 1 per cycle so they have more chances to achieve a successful fertilisation with a ‘good’ egg. Unfortunately although they can tell which embryos are the better quality they cannot detect chromosomal abnormalities so the chances of mc are pretty much the same as with a natural pregnancy, and this is the main reason that ivf cycles fail - in our early 40s over 80% of our eggs are abnormal and will not fertilise/develop.

Cost is around £3500 per cycle plus the drugs (which for me were an additional £1400) but this seems to vary with your location.

Hope this helps!

CritterTamer · 24/05/2018 18:10

@Cleo again - sorry, in answer to your other question, each ivf cycle takes two,of your natural cycles.

Cleozeta · 24/05/2018 20:43

Thanks critter! Useful info there. So it could be worth doing as it ups the chances, but there is still a high mc risk. It's tempting but I think I'd be really miffed to pay £5000 for a bfn......
I'd totally do it for a guaranteed bfp

Cleozeta · 24/05/2018 20:45

I think I might go to a clinic and get some advice. They may not do it for me anyway as I had a high FSH

CritterTamer · 24/05/2018 20:49

They’re not too worried about FSH - they look at AMH levels which are supposedly a much better indicator. If your AMH is low they will advise on the eff3ct it will have on your chance of success! But unfortunately there are no guarantees 😔

littlemimosa · 24/05/2018 20:51

Hmmm sorry AF arrived.

littlemimosa · 24/05/2018 20:53

Critter - good luck with the meds. Fingers crossed this is it for you.

Orchid - how are things?

littlemimosa · 24/05/2018 20:57

Going back to our talk on B complex, I bought some today in Boots. I’m now worried about overdosing on them as I checked the Pregnacare conception vitamins I’m on and some of the doses of B vitamins are quite high. For example B1 is 727% rda, B6 is 714% rda and B12 is 800% rda. Added to that would be 100% of each in the B complex. What do we think? Too much? What do the rest of you do?

CritterTamer · 24/05/2018 21:04

Thanks Mimosa 😊 it’s exciting but scary. It’s a week of tablets 3 times a day to start, then a baseline scan, then 2 weeks of several injections per day and several more scans until egg collection which sounds really unpleasant - I so hope it will all be worth it. Happy to keep you ladies who are considering doing ivf updated on here though if it will help you with understanding the process and deciding if you want to do it 😊

littlemimosa · 24/05/2018 21:07

Sounds intense Critter but I can understand that you are excited too. What are the tablets for? I guess they help to sort of shut everything down?

Cleozeta · 24/05/2018 21:13

Critter I would be really interested i hearing your updates, thank you. It sounds quite full on, they do so much it almost feels hard to believe it wouldn't work. I will be looking forward to hearing your success story!

Mimosa, I took B complex along side seven seas concenption, the B vitimins in those are lower than pregnacare.

CritterTamer · 24/05/2018 21:22

The tablets actually just give them control of your cycle to force you to have a period on a specific day, after that you start a daily injections which actually force you into menopause (that’s the scariest part for me) to shut down your natural hormones entirely. At the same time another series of injections artificially stimulates the ovaries to mature anything up to 20 eggs - the number they get depends on your AMH level. You then take a trigger shot of HCG once the follicles reach a specific size, which forces the eggs to mature fully, and 36 hours after this they do the egg collection under sedation. As long as the eggs fertilise they transfer embryos 2-5 days later and then pump you full of progesterone and oestrogen whilst everyone crosses their fingers for 16 days until the pregnanc6 test an£ hopefully a BFP!

That’s it in a nutshell!

Orchid222 · 24/05/2018 22:08

Oh my that's quite a process Critter! Yes please keep us updated on how it goes. Question about forcing you into menopause - it must be temporary because I read stories of women who got pregnant naturally after IVF.
Mimosa- I was still really down today but it will pass. I'm just waiting for my body to catch up to what's going on which I'm assuming will happen in the next couple of weeks. I read online that some women did have similar scans to mine early on and then went to have successful pregnancies but those who had cb digi stuck on 2-3 weeks more often than not had a mc so preparing for the worst. If by some miracle the scan in 2 weeks time shows a viable pregnancy that's fantastic but I'm not holding out much hope at all.

CritterTamer · 24/05/2018 22:13

Oh Orchid I really hope there’s still a chance everything will be ok for you - all fingers are crossed 🤞

Yes they assure me that the menopause effect will be temporary and sort itself out once the meds stop but I still find it terrifying!

weasledee · 24/05/2018 22:52

Evening ladies, I know the positive stories we hear can sometimes be a bit depressing for us in someways, but I have one from my work...
A lady I work with tried all sorts of fertility treatment in her 30's and nothing. Not a single BFP. So she gave up and her dogs were her babies. Then she hits 44 and bam, pregnant! She thought it was the menopause. She now has a 12 month old son :)
There is hope! :)

Cleozeta · 25/05/2018 09:05

Great story weasle! I do think there is a pattern with people being more successful once they stop trying, it's just so hard to do!

Orchid fingers crossed you still have a chance! The wait must be torture.

Critter I think I would be terrified of being forced into menopause, I'd worry it wouldn't come back from it! Especially as I'm half way there already

Chatbash72 · 25/05/2018 11:23

weasledee yes!! 2 friends had babies in their 44/45 year.. in that last 6 months.. we love this news and for now am just trying to enjoy oh and go with the flow.. in my tww I will be a neurotic mess.. but for now 🤣🤣

Cleozeta · 25/05/2018 12:21

I'm contemplating taking soy isoflavones to trigger ovulation after the mc as I am worried I may not ovulate alone. Would that be wise?? I've just no idea!

Orchid222 · 25/05/2018 15:23

Cleo-the wait is just killing me. It seems like ages since my scan but it's only been 2 days with 11 more to go! :( I should've never let the gp refer me that early, I said that much to her but should've insisted. I know she meant well but the next 11 days will be like 11 years. Argh!
Why don't you think you'll ovulate alone? Last time you did and you weren't on soy were you? I remember you took it at some point but I didn't think it was right before your bfp. I think if I were you I'd give it a cycle to see first, if we're supposed to be more fertile after a mc maybe it affects ovulation as well?

OP posts:
Cleozeta · 25/05/2018 15:53

11 days is a long time when every day is ticking. How far along would you have been at the scan? They don't recommend scanning before 6 weeks as not much can be seen. I hope that is the case for you. Try to keep distracted and busy for now!

It's been a while since I've taken soy and I had been ovulating alone, I just know that my hormones are not the most reliable and worry this mc may just throw them out too much. Took another pregnancy test today and its still a faint positive. It's been 2 weeks now (although feels a lot longer). I just want it to be over, so I can start trying again.

Karigan1 · 25/05/2018 16:05

Hi little , to answer your question regarding the vit b: I wasn’t too sure which I went for just b6 in the end.

I did a lot of googling and it seemed ok though. What I did was to just research the maximum levels you should take of each one pregnant and not pregnant and it gives you some idea.

I tried a test today. Unsurprisingly bfn but wasn’t expecting much at 9dpo.

Symptoms still good though. Got ridiculous amounts of fanny snot to add to them 😂😂

Chatbash72 · 25/05/2018 16:37

Karigan1 ohhh my god 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 fanny snot !! I love that term 😝😝😝😝😝
