Congratulations Mittens! I'm 46 and ttc no. 2 after having DS at 41. I love to hear the good news stories out there...the older they are the better! Someone on One Born episode 7 said they had pcos and thought they'd never conceive then eventually managed to later in life ...and i was sat waiting to hear how old she was ...and she said 27?? I must have misheard it surely! 😕

weasledee · 02/05/2018 15:39

Boosey I saw that episode!! It was the midwife. She went on about having children later in life and she was 27?!? Confused

Orchid222 · 02/05/2018 15:47

Great, I've waited for the fertility clinic appt so long and what advice do I get? IVF 😤 Since all of our tests are fine and we've been trying for a year, considering my age he said that's the best chance. Suggested we might want to try for another few months naturally but start looking at IVF if it doesn't happen soon. Chances of conceiving through IVF at my age are 15/20% per cycle. My husband is convinced I'm not pregnant yet because I've been under a ton of stress at work. I'm leaving my job now so in theory I should have less stress so I think we'll take another 1-2 cycles and if nothing happens then it's IVF which, by the way, doesn't come without worries. My husband asked if children conceived through IVF might differ from those conceived naturally.
I laughed but the doctor said there's an increased chance of infertility in boys because if there's a problem with the father's sperm it might be passed on to the son and also there's 4% more of a chance of something I have no idea how to spell but means the baby might be born with a defect like a missing finger, hand etc. 😢

Boosey that 27 really made me laugh. We were waiting for the fertility clinic appt when I read it and I laughed out loud in the waiting area full of couples worried about not being able to conceive...

Orchid sorry you appt wasn’t what you had hoped for - but at least there is nothing seriously wrong (although annoying that IVF is the go to now) I can’t recall if you already have little ones but either way - was that your GP or a Fert specialist? I have never heard the one about a male child being affected in the sperm dept? And as fit missing digits ...... I have 6 friends ego habit had IVF and all children have been Perfectly fine - 2 of the Mums were in their early 40’s...

KeepingTheFaith9 · 02/05/2018 18:04

Re-typed that as the predictive text ruined it!! 😬

Stress is likely a big factor ... orchid, you hubby is right. Now on day 32 waiting for AF, I’m sure me being stressed is the cause of it being 5 days late 😬😬😬

KeepingTheFaith9 · 02/05/2018 18:07

Did you see the OBEM where the husband fainted - had a chuckle out loud I did!! 😝

Orchid222 · 02/05/2018 18:54

Thanks Faith no it was a fertility specialist and yes I have a DS who was conceived on 1st try hence it's so stressful that I can't even get pregnant :( my husband's friend said they were strughl9with no2 because his wife was stressed at work, she quit and was pregnant 6 weeks later so let's see...really hope it's as simple as that. As for IVF children of course most of them will be perfectly fine, it's v small numbers were talking about that might have some issues.

Hey Orchid, sorry you’re feeling so down. I’m surprised they said IVF after only one year of trying. Let’s hope leaving your job and hence less stress is the key for you. I presume your HSG results were good?

27 is ‘later in life’!!!!! That’s hilarious. Women have been have babies truly later in life ie in their 40s and even 50a for ever. People do say some funny things.

littlemimosa · 03/05/2018 07:16

Faith I saw that guy faint, I too chuckled Grin

Orchid222 · 03/05/2018 08:09

Thanks mimosa. He did say we can try for a few more months if we want to but at my age we should look into IVF sooner rather than later because we don't want to find ourselves in the same position a year later with the chances of success even lower. That is very true and I agree but I was hoping he's suggest something else first. I asked about IUI because I remember that's what Ali's consultant suggested but he said that only helps couples who are struggling to have physical intercourse. 😪 I had HyCoSy not HSG but yes the results were good. That's the frustrating bit, everything seems find on paper I just can't get pregnant. If there was an issue somewhere I could at least blame that and try to tackle if I suppose but there's nothing so really hoping less stress will help but will also go privately for a 2nd opinion.

Mimosa, I'll be very curious to hear what you're told at your appointment. It's in a couple of weeks right?

Morning all.. glad you are getting some answers Orchid

I have been reading about anuvolatry cycles and I think this is what's happening as I def haven't ovulated and feel like AF is due. Same happened last month.. now feel like we've left it too late... the irony was prior to the last two months periods were like clockwork and I def was ovulating as I had signs..

As soon as I decided to TTC they've gone to pot! If only I decided 6 months earlier☹️

CritterTamer · 03/05/2018 08:47

@hmmm123 - I’m no expert but I believe that medical intervention can help with anovulatory cycles quite easily - I think that’s what Clomid is for? Probably worth going to the doctor and getting it checked out if you’re sure you haven’t ovulated for two cycles!

starsandstuff · 03/05/2018 13:54

hmmm that's what I feel like too - just had a very long cycle for me (34/35 days) with a very short period of 4 days. Like clockwork since I was 14 and literally the first month we decide to try they go up the left!

orchid sorry you're disappointed. But stress is such a massive factor when it comes to TTC. I know it's a word we throw around easily now, but in biological and evolutionary terms it makes absolute sense that the body makes it difficult to conceive in times of threat. Our systems react to emotional stress the same way as physical danger so in a sense your hormones don't know the difference between being under physical attack and having a pressurised job, and obviously having a baby when under physical attack isn't a good move. So if your job is causing a great deal of stress it would make sense that it's the thing holding you back. I'm actually in the same position - I love my job but where I work/my boss cause me so much stress I've been trying to weigh up whether to quit or hang on for potential mat pay... Anyway good luck x

littlemimosa · 03/05/2018 16:06

Orchid - yes a week on Monday. We get hsg and sperm results at the appointment so I’m a tiny bit nervous!

Hmmm - what makes you feel you’re not ovulating? I had an annovulatory cycle a couple of years ago and it was very very obvious and I went on to have a 6 week cycle. Do you temp? I don’t but I know people say it’s a great way to check for ovulation.

hmmm123 · 03/05/2018 16:40

I've been using opks mimosa and no sign of ovulation

Orchid222 · 03/05/2018 17:21

Thanks all, fingers crossed less stress will help, I really don't want to go the IVF route if I can help it.
Mimosa- interesting how different places do it differently, i had my HyCoSy result right after the test and my husband called the gp a while after his sample was rested and got it so we knew those were ok. I'm sure yours will be fine though.
Hmm and stars- if you feel like that if suggest going to the go and asking for blood tests, they can tell you whether or not you're ovulating and they'll put your mind to rest if you are, if not like Critter said you can do something about it.

Hmmm and Statrs ... me too..maybe it’s this thread?!! Annovulation is catching! I had one in March but after the AF - or breakthrough bleed (day 44 as opposed to day 28) I had ov sign on day 11 and on day 18 (well EWCM & twinges) but still no period but period type twinges on what shd have been day one - now it’s day 33 ... and not a dicky bird of a symptom ...😬

KeepingTheFaith9 · 03/05/2018 22:57

I wonder how easy it is to get cloned from your GP?
Orchid hope the dress abates soon. I wonder if it really is such a pressure for us all... quite possibly ...
Mimosa fingers crossed for a good result x

KeepingTheFaith9 · 03/05/2018 22:58

Going away ( without dh!) for the long w/e so going to stop testing as can't do anything about it anyway! May check in to see go when I get back to see what's going on. Will feel a bit foolish though as last time I saw him I spent ages telling him that I was satisfied with just one child and definitely would not be having another child!....

I so wish that was a thing so I could send the other one to work Grin
