Thread five!

A safe place for those of you who have been trying to conceive for 6+ months and even yams aren’t helping. Come and have a good ol’ bitch and a moan without judgement.

The Yam Commandments are as follows;

  • Thou shalt not arrive one day and post BFP next day
  • Thou shalt not give advice to others when TTC for one month only
  • Thou shalt not participate in one-up-manship and realise TTC is shit for everyone in different ways
  • Thou shall allow posters to be fucked off with the world and everything in it at regular points in the month
  • Thou shalt not be offended by strong language
  • Thou shalt not tell everyone to eat yams
  • Thou shall accept being called a muppet for testing at 7dpo at 9pm at night

And most importantly...

  • Thou shalt not symptom spot during the two week wait and must be prepared for a telling off if you do so.

So after the "sperm are coated in antibodies" drama last week. I went to see gp for an early referral for assisted conception. Phoned appointments this morning for an idea of the waiting list and was told referral hadn't been done. I was like I was in the doctors office when she put it though on Monday. Phoned assisted conception and was told it was 6-8 months for an initial appointment and the same again for IVF, but to call another number for more details. Phoned other number and spoke to lovely lady who told me my appointment next month which I thought was a gyne appointment is an assisted conception appointment. So in theory we could get our first round of IVF by the end of the year.

I have gone all the emotions in the past 10 minutes. So hopeful IVF will work but while we are waiting we will keep trying for a miracle baby.

I agree with soozc regarding bpf, I have only ever seen positive pregnancy tests on here. That's right the only bfp I have seen are on a infertility group on mumsnet fml

LexieJean · 22/02/2018 11:38

What a palaver @catherine! I hope you’re feeling ok now? Sounds positive Re ivf at least, 🤞not a huge wait for you and your appointment with the acu helps.

Chooklass · 22/02/2018 12:12

That all sounds stressful @catherine but positive in the end at least!

I had a massive teary whinge to dp this morning about how we’ll never be parents. All got on top of me. AF due tomorrow and got cramps last night so poas to put myself out of misery (so I could have wine!), bfn of course. I just wish we had more info about dp’s sperm so I could know for sure whether to keep getting my hopes up or not. Still no word about fertility appt - even having a date (even if ages away) would help have something to aim for. Grumble, grumble 😂

catherine1988 · 22/02/2018 15:29

@chooklass @lexiejean the Nuffield said we had really good chances of IVF working, now I just wanna get there. I know I haven't got a bfp but now I feel like there was a reason it didn't work all those month and there is a plan

LexieJean · 22/02/2018 16:33

That’s really positive @catherine 👍 Even the vague plan me and OH have feels good- taking back some control.

LexieJean · 22/02/2018 16:35

@chooklass that’s frustrating. Remind me- you’ve been referred to FC/ACU and waiting for appointment to come through? Is there anyone you can chase up for info/idea of waiting time?

Chooklass · 22/02/2018 17:55

Hi @Lexi, yeah - we were referred after dp’s poor sa results. Only been waiting 2 months to hear - feeling a bit impatient now but should prob just get used to waiting I guess!

LookingAtTheStars89 · 22/02/2018 18:21

Well the sweet potato I ate this month did FA as flo just arrived. Completely devastated - again. Had a little cry. DH was a bit blase about it, which in my hormone frenzied mind really annoyed me!!

Chooklass · 22/02/2018 18:38

Ah sorry @looking. I’m due af tomorrow and got frer bfn so feeling shitty today too. My dp is really chilled out too - it’s really tough not to take it out on him sometimes! Purely out of general frustration, not because he deserves it - poor chap! Trying to think of something lovely to do tonight to cheer myself up ...

MynameisJune · 22/02/2018 19:30

@looking sorry af arrived, so bloody shit. My DH is also super laid back and didn’t even realise we’d passed the year mark of trying Confused

@chook anywhere nice to go for a swim and then sit in the jacuzzi, steam room or sauna?

Catscakeandchocolate · 22/02/2018 19:33

FlowersCake for you looking

Chooklass · 22/02/2018 19:40

Went for a less healthy choice of pizza in my pjs! Think I’ll have an early night with a good book and say goodbye to today.

MynameisJune · 22/02/2018 19:48

@limp hope your scan goes as well as it can tomorrow. We’ll be thinking of you Flowers

SoozC · 22/02/2018 22:12

Sorry to hear it, Looking. I had some sweet potato last cycle too and it did nothing. Which I'm relieved about because if yams really did work..

Highwater · 22/02/2018 22:33

Sorry @chooklass and @looking, totally know the feeling. I cry every time!

@catherine1988 your message made my laugh (sadly) because this is the only place I have ever seen a BFP, I'm beginning to wonder if they exist??

In other news my DH had his SA results and only got 2% on morphology - has anyone had similar results? Any advice??

LookingAtTheStars89 · 23/02/2018 00:36

Thanks ladies :-) you are really lovely. I've had a couple of glasses of Wine and have managed to calm down a bit.

DH sends his sample off on Monday so we'll have to wait and see how that goes. His Dr was fairly blase about it, no one seems to give a hoot about the idea of secondary infertility. DH said his Dr said "Well if it was fine last time..." I didn't want to say this to DH as I didn't want to hurt his feelings but he doesn't know his sperm is fine, he could have a problem but we just got lucky before - same goes for me. You can't make statements like that without evidence.

Sorry lol I will get off of my soap box now!

LookingAtTheStars89 · 23/02/2018 00:37

As for the BFP's - I'm glad I took photographs of mine lol as I can't remember what I feels like to see one!

LexieJean · 23/02/2018 07:44

@chook have you tried calling the clinic/hospital to get an idea of waiting time? Then at least you’d have a timeline to wait out.

@high my OH first SA results came back with 0.5% morphology! 😬 however, 8 months later he did it again and it’s apparently in the top of where it should be. Go figure. Only change was I made sure he was taking his multi-vit. He is convinced the first sample was off as he had to take it into the clinic himself- so it was 55mins before they even received it. Was yours dropped off or done on site?

Chooklass · 23/02/2018 09:10

@Lexi think I’ll have to try that. Don’t want to pester busy nhs but don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for rough idea of how long it’s likely to be.

@High and @Looking, SA result communication seems to vary wildly! My dp just told ‘poor’ and no numbers, so we don’t know in what way it’s poor! He’s been taking male conception vits since then - have any of you heard of any particulary good brands? We’re just on pregnacare or Boots own.

After 2 days of cramps and moods AF finally arrived this morning and feel a lot better. On with cycle 12ish ... lost count now!

LexieJean · 23/02/2018 10:50

Go for it @chook
We just use the pregnacare pre conception hisnhers. Got them in bulk when on special as so expensive!

Highwater · 23/02/2018 11:19

@LexieJean he did it on site so sadly can't blame that and he's already been taking the pregnacare vitamins for men for 6months or so.....hoping cutting down on alcohol will help but we didn't get any advice when we got the results so need to make an appointment.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 23/02/2018 11:20

@Chooklass. I am a pesterer lol. If I ever get an abnormal result then I kick up a fuss until I get the numbers and the reason why. Even if they tell me it's "normal no action" I ask for the results and Google it to check lol. I've had a B12 abnormal result missed once because of incompetence!

My DH is taking Wellman Original. I take 5mg folic acid (prescribed)/vit D/zinc/magnesium. Thinking of adding omega 3 and vitamin C though.

Mamabooksbabynumber2 · 23/02/2018 15:31

Hi ladies,

I've not been on here for ages mostly because it's been 13 months and I've mentally given up with ttc.

We are still dtd every 2-3 days and dp has had his results back today from his first sa.
He has done normal and some abnormal sperm. More abnormal sperm then most people have and it is quite low. Gp said this isn't uncommon.

He has to do another sa and take it to the hospital on Monday.

Anyone else in a similar situation with sa?

X

LimpLettice · 23/02/2018 18:30

Oh yammers. I'm drinking, already, so if it's too much, sorry not sorry (as dd would say), but fuck what a day.

Epu this morning. Hcg still high, scan showed very vacant womb. Pregnancy is fully gone, no 'retained products'. I have to test again in a week and 2 weeks. I sat in a room with 20 very pregnant women for 45 minutes, that's just life, apparently.

Fallopian tube is still swollen / blocked / fluid.

They've referred me direct to recurrent miscarriage, and actually were very kind. M/w didn't say too much but felt it was positive I'm still getting pregnant at my advanced age, they just need to stop my body killing them off.

I've decided that the mature response is to get pissed and think again next week.

Chooklass · 23/02/2018 19:02

@Limp that sounds like a really challenging day - you deserve the wine. Flowers

Just got home to find an appointment card for fertility clinic for 10 days time!! After all my whinging that’s earlier than I expected (just under 3 months since referral). Feels positive to have that in the diary even if it ultimately leads to more waiting.
