Anyone else waiting to TTC?

I thought we could keep each other company while we wait!

Your age/DH age: 29/39
Baby #: This will be #2
When are you TTC: I think we should start in June when DS is 2 but we are so broody it might be sooner
Why are you waiting: We are doing some house renovations at the moment & sorting out some stuff financially. Everything seems a bit up in the air & I can only stress about a couple of things at a time. I'm looking forward to life settling down only to have a newborn mess it all up again Grin
What are you doing to keep busy?: I'm project managing house renovations & enjoying one-on-one time with DS before he (hopefully) becomes a big brother. DH & I are having a huge joint birthday party in September for my 30th & his 40th so I'm enjoying planning that!

Thanks Pinkrose!
I think I heard someone it was 3 months pre ttc? Or have I imagined that?

mussie · 06/03/2018 20:57

I'm sure a month would do it. I mean there's no harm taking it earlier, but I didn't think it 'built up' as such? I though the reason people took it every day while TTC was so that they were definitely taking it from the day of conception. Although, I guess it can prevent anaemia, so taking it longer term probably helps with that, rather than the neural tube formation.

NoseringGirl · 06/03/2018 21:15

I had 12 weeks in my head as well @Hofty will see if I can find any info from a reliable source!

NoseringGirl · 06/03/2018 21:18

This says to start taking it "ideally 3 months before conception..."

Ah I stand corrected! Better get started then if I'm thinking June/July ish. That's only three months away! 😱 oh this is going to make it feel so much closer, so much more real. I'm beaming ☺️

LilysMom2016 · 07/03/2018 06:48

Please may I join?

I've just turned 37, OH is 39. Will only start trying for baby #2 around May/June. Just tracking cycles and taking pre-natals for now, but I do feel a bit of pressure age-and time-wise. Ugh.

I have (had?) Graves but have been hypo since mid-2015, post- surgery. I developed GD and pre-eclampsia last pregnancy so I'm worried about those, but I have seen the endo and OB already for check-ups and they are happy for us to start TTC.

x

Beaglemum93 · 07/03/2018 07:08

Hi @Lilysmom2016

I have graves disease too, but treated with medication. Were you on medication for it during your last pregnancy?

LilysMom2016 · 07/03/2018 07:21

Hi @Beaglemum93 Smile

Yes- I had my thyroid removed before TTC/pregnancy as a means to 'fix' the Graves, so I had to go on Eltroxin straightaway. Neomercazole alone couldn't control my runaway thyroid after nearly 3 years on it.

Are you still on Neomercazole to try and rectify (sorry, can't think of a better word :)) the Graves, or are you hypo with just the Graves anti-bodies, and on Eltroxin?

x

Beaglemum93 · 07/03/2018 08:57

@Lilysmom2016 I was on neomercazole and eltroxin a few years ago as an attempt at the "block and replace" treatment which worked for a while but the hyperthyroidism came back after about a year. So now I'm on propylthiouracil which my endo consultant says is relatively safe to take while TTC and during pregnancy.

NoseringGirl · 07/03/2018 09:48

Hello @LilysMom2016! I had GD in both my pregnancies. I found GD UK in the last one and the Facebook support group was amazing. I learnt so much more about controlling it (I was diagnosed at 13 weeks the second time around).

LilysMom2016 · 07/03/2018 11:47

@Beaglemum93 That's great that your endo is looking after you through your thyroid issues, it's so important. My endo didn't even suggest the 'block and replace' option with me at the outset (or maybe it isn't a standard treatment here?) I also eventually went with surgery as opposed to RAI because I wanted to conceive, and that seemed like the option with the most guaranteed, rapid solution for me and my dicky thyroid. Have you been tested for TSH anti-bodies? That got checked before TTC, and during. Taking anti-thyroid meds during pregnancy was fine and the Eltroxin caused no problems- I just had to go for regular blood tests to monitor TSH so my dosage could be updated. Your baby will also have their TSH checked after birth.

@NoseringGirl Thank you- I will look into those sites x Did you end up on medication or did you just control your sugar with diet and exercise? I was diagnosed at 7 weeks :(

NoseringGirl · 07/03/2018 12:07

@LilysMom2016 in my first pregnancy I ended up on metformin and then insulin once a day. My second pregnancy was in a different area and they have higher limits. I had been put on metformin for PCOS before I was pregnant so I'd stayed on that to reduce the risk of GD but failed the GTT I had at 13 weeks anyway. I didn't have a single high reading after that though so just stayed on that low dose of metformin. Following the GDUK diet advice really helped!
It's a long slog when you get diagnosed early isn't it? Were you on medication for it?

luelle · 07/03/2018 17:15

Someone talk some sense into me. Had a week from hell and cannot switch off the baby brain. I mean lying awake at night crying over how frustrated I am with wait. I don't understand why I know I am so young, I do know but me and DP are just so ready and I just want our little family so bad. Had a long chat with my mum and she said SMP would cover my loan payment.. i don't want to be this weak that I can't just bloody wait 12 months. Already thinking of how to convince DP to just TTC already and find a way to make it work... SOS

mussie · 07/03/2018 17:32

Oh @luelle, sorry you're feeling it so hard. Would SMP really cover the loan payment, and leave you both with enough to live on? Maybe it's worth having a sit down and trawling through the finances to see if it could work. And remember, at least it's the 12 months and not 21! It's already so much sooner than you thought Smile

Hofty · 07/03/2018 18:30

Luelle, it's hard isn't lovely. I had a time like that in late 2016. I was sooooo broody it was unreal, I couldn't eat, coudn't sleep, was trying to convince DP to start ttc mid way through my final year of my first degree. I was acting like a crazy woman, it was pure biology. It was like my body was screaming at me to reproduce. It was horrible. Happily, common sense prevailed. I'm going to finish my masters and wait till we're married (6 months to go!) but I know that feeling. Ultimately it's up to you. If you can afford it, I'd go for it. It will all be fine whatever you choose. Don't forget to factor in the 9 month pregnancy and probably some before you conceive - sorry if that's ridiculously obvious!

Lilsquish · 07/03/2018 20:06

Well my period has finally arrived!!!

48 day cycle. sigh

Hofty · 08/03/2018 18:41

Anyone else really struggling to put it out of their minds today? I was supposed to be doing some uni reading but I just concentrate on anything other than ttc today Confused so far I have brainstormed names, discussed slings with DFiancè, discussed who we'd tell and whether we'd do it before 12 weeks ect. Some one come and save me from my crazies Grin

RandomUsernameHere · 08/03/2018 19:14

Me too! One of DD's friends has a newborn baby sister and I keep finding myself just gazing at her and feeling so broody... Just as well we have to wait though, DH slipped on the ice last week and has a badly fractured elbow so I don't think I'll be getting any action for a while!

Hofty · 08/03/2018 19:50

Oh no! Hope DH is feeling better soon @RandomUsernameHere

dottydally · 08/03/2018 19:55

@Hofty me!! I can't stop thinking about it. Also found myself thinking 'it would be fine' - I know I can wait... where is my self control?!

Hofty · 08/03/2018 20:00

@dottydally
I've got a full set of names in the event that we have two boys and two girls Grin I think DFiancè thinks I've taken leave of my senses. My bridesmaids are now bickering over silver shoes on the group chat so at least I've got that to distract me!

RandomUsernameHere · 08/03/2018 20:09

Thanks @Hofty !
I hope so too for my sake as well as his! Getting sick of waiting on him already Confused

dottydally · 08/03/2018 20:39

@Hofty omg I have names picked out too! Twins run in my family so rather nervous that we might get two. Also planned how to announce it to everyone how embarrassing. Bridesmaid shoes sound good! What colour dresses are the shoes going with??

mussie · 08/03/2018 20:54

@Hofty slings!! Thanks for the inspo. I thought I'd researched and picked everything (crib, breast pump, sleep sack, etc) but I hadn't made it to slings yet. That will give me another happy afternoon of careful deliberation 😂 though, I keep trying to look at baby clothes online, and I just feel totally uninspired! Unisex stuff looks so boring. And I don't want to look around the shops in person in case anyone sees me 🙈 and Pinterest is just so twee. Any recommendations anyone, for pretty baby clothes browsing?

I've not had much chance to think about names. Mainly because I know DH has strong opinions about names (no names of royalty, for example) but he won't discuss it in detail until I'm pregnant, so seems pointless pinning my hopes on a particular list of names just yet. Just can't wait to find out if I'm having a girl or a boy first! 💖💙
