TTC #1, Cycle 1. Anyone In?

Hi all,
Longtime lurker, occasional commenter, rare poster here.
DH and I decided to start to TTC after much deliberation recently.
I've been on the pill for 16 years and haven't had a natural period in that time! Had my withdrawal bleed which started on 15th Jan and think I may have ovulated on Thursday 2nd Feb. I was doing OPKs (I know - first cycle, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going all in!) and got an almost-positive then - didn't have any more OPKs with me to test slightly later in the day.
DTD numerous times in what I'm estimating is my fertile week (working on the basis that my cycle is 28 days but don't really know at the moment).
So now the waiting begins.
Anyone in the same position or want to join?
Advice and your stories welcomed!

@AnotherOriginalUsername yes I did.. I was so apprehensive tho 😂 but I think I’m getting the hang of it.. it seemed mid high last night and not too firm..
I’m pretty sure I ain’t ovulated yet this month and it’s CD 20 I seriously hate having irregular cycles 😭

Also I think TTC is making me mad 😂😂 I keep having really vivid baby related dreams.. last night I had one I was in labour and the day before I had one that we actually had a baby 🙊 really need to start concentrating on something else

Morning all!

I've woken up feeling so confused this morning!
I'm so so swollen all over and my rings feels so tight on my finger to the point I've just decided to prize them off lol. I feel horrible 😣. Carrying on from yesterday's post on feeling fat and unhealthy I'm actually starting to wonder if I need to go on a wee self love journey before fully throwing myself into TTC. I need to lose some weight first I think. I've always struggled to stay slim but since the end of last year the getting broody thing has totally thrown me off track, eating because 'I'll just get fat soon anyway' or because I'm unhappy because I've not miraculously pregnant. I'm not massively overweight but My clothes are starting to become unbearable (5ft5 - 11.5st plus..). The broody-ness seems to come in waves. I feel like I want it so much but I'm also very scared about being pregnant and the birth etc. It's so confusing and I feel like I change my mind everyday from wanting a baby more than anything to not being sure if I am ready. Anybody else feel a bit like this? Do you think it's normal to be scared? I feel like maybe I should wait till the end of summer to work out my cycles and know that I can happily diet and exercise without harming anything. So if I'm definitely not pregnant this cycle then I think I will probably take some time out.

Rmad6716 · 29/03/2018 11:24

@orangekitkat13 they say that if you were active pre pregnancy then you are fine to continue as normal 😃. I'm just severely unfit and a serial worrier lol 😣. I would love to be able to run but it always feels like torture to me!

Rmad6716 · 29/03/2018 11:27

@Unicorn234

I used the natural cycles app for a while and they sent me a thermometer which is really sensitive.

They say basically as soon as you wake up in the morning or as soon as the alarm goes off even if your snoozing it then take temp on first alarm. They also say if you sleep 2hrs more or even have a slight cold etc then not to count it as such as it can be inaccurate. For these reasons I decided I wasn't brave enough to use the app to prevent pregnancy as I tend to oversleep and snooze my alarms etc. Plus I work flexi time so don't always get up at the same times each day lol.

Mipha · 29/03/2018 11:32

@emdoc, feel the same! So impatient even though this is only our second month trying! Also @unicorn234 it’s a good sign your cycles are regular, means you’re probably ovulating and it makes it easier to predict when to dtd lots.
@Ramad6716 it’s normal to have mixed feelings. I so want to be pregnant but I know if I was, the minute I found out I would start panicking and worry it was the wrong decision. Also you should be able to diet safely while ttc as long as you lose weight gradually, maybe just one or two pounds a week, and make sure your diet is healthy and you get all the vitamins and stuff you need. It shouldn’t affect your cycle if you’re sensible. Exercise is also recommended during pregnancy, as long as it’s isnt marathon running or a contact sport. Maybe just loosely track your cycle and see what happens, don’t put pressure on and just have sex when you feel like it.

I’m just going into my fertile week, exciting!

I'd like to join this thread too please! I am 34 ttc #1 cycle #1. Had some symptoms approx 5 days after dtd. Not had any more symptoms since Monday. Normally very in tune with my body. On cd 23/30. Caved and tested this morning which I know is too early. Really not sure, think I just got an evap line. Will test again tomorrow. Also managed to ruin first test by accidentally weeing on the result panel 🙈

Good luck to you all 🍀

AnotherOriginalUsername · 29/03/2018 12:42

@WaitingForThatBFP are you using an app?

WaitingForThatBFP · 29/03/2018 12:51

@AnotherOriginalUsername I’m using Ovia but only have been doing so properly for about 2 months...
My doctor doesn’t seem to think it’s anything bad but I still need to go for my progesterone blood tests to see if I actually am ovulating so going to have that done on Tuesday

AnotherOriginalUsername · 29/03/2018 16:42

I used Ovia and the only thing I did was track my cervical mucus daily, it told my my fertile window based on this, and that's the only time we DTD so must be pretty accurate!

@AnotherOriginalUsername nice work then!

WaitingForThatBFP · 29/03/2018 17:09

@AnotherOriginalUsername aww that’s good to hear.. my CF’s been like school glue atm.. no changes to that as of yet but I’m expecting ovulation to be a little later considering my last cycle was 45 days

orangekitkat13 · 29/03/2018 18:03

@Rmad6716 still not sure I'm brave enough to keep running, I wouldn't say that I'm particularly fit but I'll see, if I really feel like a run(doesn't happen often!) I'll go, and keep it gentle.

I caved today and bought some OPKs even though I SS aid I wouldn't! Bought the digital ones as the cheap ones look too confusing to me. When should I start using them? Currently on cycle day 4 and AF is nearly done thank god!

emdoc · 29/03/2018 18:18

I think it's definitely safe to keep exercising, and I know for me it really helps with my mood and stress so I'm planning to try to keep doing what I'm doing! However I don't love running so taking this as an excuse to stop would be nice Grin. I think the warnings about "extreme" exercise are more for endurance athletes with very low BMIs who might suppress ovulation... I don't think we could shake out a sticky baby even if we wanted to haha!

@orangekitkat13 I also just ordered some cheap OPKs from Amazon and a couple of pregnancy tests to have on hand! My resolve not to buy them worked out really well, about 4 days??

Woke up with the start of a migraine today and normally I take ibuprofen but I feel as though that's one of the things I should avoid entirely (even though I'm almost certainly NOT pregnant at this point). Ughhh no fun!

orangekitkat13 · 29/03/2018 18:23

@emdoc fair point, might still use it as an excuse for a bit tho, it's pissing down here! Grin

In therms of pain killers, I was the same the first month we were trying but then I read that for the first couple of weeks the baby doesn't take anything from what you are consuming as it's just a bundle of cells so I think your probably ok. Wouldn't take too many tho.

blitzen · 30/03/2018 09:49

BFN for me this morning on day 24/30. Nevermind!

jemimafuddleduck · 30/03/2018 09:55

SunshineAndRainbows6 · 30/03/2018 10:32

BFN for me too! 12DPO 😩 but we aren't out till AF shows lady's 😘👌🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻👶🏻

SunshineAndRainbows6 · 30/03/2018 10:33

Oops I meant 11DPO 🙋🏻

Rmad6716 · 30/03/2018 12:06

I've been reading the wrong part of the chart on Glow app... I'm only 9DPO! Maybe I'll not be as sad about this mornings BFN. I don't feel like AF is coming but I don't feel like I could be pregnant either 😣. Hurry up period!

helbel42 · 30/03/2018 13:57

@emdoc i have ankylosing spondylitis and usually take naproxen daily but have been advised to stop while ttc so I'd guess ibuprofen is probably one to avoid. If you can manage with paracetamol that's likely safer. Although I have had to take a couple when it's been bad, luckily fallen at times I know I'm not pg. I'm on day 8, cycle 3 - really hoping this is going to be the one! Baby dust to all!! x

blitzen · 30/03/2018 15:51

Good point, @Sunshine! ☉🌈🤞

jemimafuddleduck · 30/03/2018 20:10

AF has arrived 😢

Rach0110 · 30/03/2018 20:23

Rachellouise28 · 30/03/2018 21:38

@jemimafuddleduck sorry to see this. It sucks but it’s only your first month so stay positive. Good luck for cycle number 2

Englishpetal89 · 30/03/2018 22:14

Does anyone have recommendations for a BBT thermometer that isn't super expensive or super unreliable? I want to start tracking it as soon as I can, but don't want to spend loads!

Thanks!
