TTC #1, Cycle 1. Anyone In?

Hi all,
Longtime lurker, occasional commenter, rare poster here.
DH and I decided to start to TTC after much deliberation recently.
I've been on the pill for 16 years and haven't had a natural period in that time! Had my withdrawal bleed which started on 15th Jan and think I may have ovulated on Thursday 2nd Feb. I was doing OPKs (I know - first cycle, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going all in!) and got an almost-positive then - didn't have any more OPKs with me to test slightly later in the day.
DTD numerous times in what I'm estimating is my fertile week (working on the basis that my cycle is 28 days but don't really know at the moment).
So now the waiting begins.
Anyone in the same position or want to join?
Advice and your stories welcomed!

Hi waiting! Welcome and good luck on your journey! What cycle are you on? And what's a preconception appointment - never heard of that?!

I'm finding the switch in mentality of being scared of accidentally getting pregnant to desperately wanting to get pregnant an interesting one... I almost had a pregnancy-phobia for decades, using double protection etc.... Now I'm scared that it'll take me a long time to succeed. Wish I could just chill!

@snowbrigade I'm exactly the same, and the switch happened literally as soon as I signed my marriage certificate !

@jemima Cycle 6 atm..
preconception appt is just like a medical check where the doctor will check my health to ensure I’m healthy for a pregnancy and if there’s any underlying causes to worry about

Is anyone due to test over the next couple of days? Ovia is telling me that I could test on Wednesday (5 days before AF). I have had NO symptoms whatsoever... not even imaginary ones

@jemima I’m tempted to test in the morning.. I really don’t know with my periods being all over the place but I have been symptom spotting so bad the past couple days..

@WaitingForThatBFP when do you think you ovulated?

From what I can remember I reckon around he 21st/22nd of Feb

@jemima I will.. 🙈 I’m not holding out any hope though.. 😬 may aswell rest before my doctors appointment on Wednesday as one of the questions she’ll most likely ask is have you tested recently 😂

So many messages! For some reason my app didn't update that there was new messages on here...anyhoo after a name change and a bit of reading I have caught up!

I had a BFN after cycle 1 but I am not entirely sure I ovulated. Had my first period in 6 years which was heaps better than I was expecting. Had a 33 day cycle so I did an OPK this morning (CD13) and had my first flashing smiley face...yippeeeeeeee! I know this isn't yet peak fertility but it has made my day that it isn't a negative again!

So the plot thickens here... I've had a small amount of pink/red spotting. I've been to the toilet about 5 times in the last hour but it doesn't seem to be coming to anything.

Tentatively thinking about the possibility of it being implantation bleeding as my period isn't due for another week and I'm 11DPO (if I did indeed ovulate!).

Would it be crazy to go and buy a test now or is there no chance it'll show up?

Think it's very unlikely to show, you don't get sufficient HCG produced until 8-10d post implantation

@AnotherOriginalUsername thank you. I did buy one though and test even though I knew I shouldn't! It was BFN. Still in with a chance though!

Really hoping that spotting was implantation. It seems to have gone as quickly as it came!

@jemimafuddleduck fingers crossed for you!! I think AF finished today so I'm excited to have a proper cycle this time. I'm not going to do OPKs for now, I'll just check my CM everyday and hopefully that will give clues. I bought some pineapple juice today, read somewhere that is supposed to help! 😜

@orangekitkat13 I've never heard that before about pineapple juice?! Do you know why it's supposed to help?

I spotted a tiny bit late morning, then nothing at all this afternoon and have started again this evening. Usually with AF it starts off very light but by the time I go to the toilet the next time it's heavy enough to use a tampon. It's not at that stage so unless that changes overnight it's not AF yet.

I'm still not really sure of my cycles as this is only my second off contraception, so I'm just really going from my first cycle, but AF shouldn't be due for another week - it's only been 3 weeks.

I've literally had no other symptoms and don't even think we DTD at the right time so I'll be pleasantly surprised if it is a BFP! I'll test again in the morning and update you all (even though I'm pretty sure it's still to early...!)

In my defence, Ovia does say I can test from tomorrow...

I think it's supposed to improve the quality of your CM, to get the sperm on its way!

BFN. Still spotting but it's more red than pink, but very light, not enough for a tampon. Confused!

I survived my first AF in 10 years 🎉 The sooner that nonsense stops, the better!!

I've got an appointment with a clinical geneticist today to try and identify a dodgy gene. Currently torn between knowledge is power and ignorance is bliss 😣
