Thread numero four-o.

A safe place for those of you who have been trying to conceive for 6+ months and even yams aren’t helping. Come and have a good ol’ bitch and a moan without judgement.

The Yam Commandments are as follows;

  • Thou shall not arrive one day and post BFP next day
  • Thou shall not give advice to others when TTC for one month only
  • Thou shall not participate in one-up-manship and realise TTC is shit for everyone in different ways
  • Thou shall allow posters to be fucked off with the world and everything in it at regular points in the month
  • Thou shall not be offended by strong language
  • Thou shall not tell everyone to eat yams
  • Thou shall accept being called a muppet for testing at 7dpo at 9pm at night

And most importantly...

  • Thou shall not symptom spot during the two week wait and must be prepared for a telling off if they do so.

Welcome and welcome. We’re all very nice and friendly despite being horrible bitter old cows ☺️

Tesco low fat strawberry yoghurt!!!! I love the fact that not only a) you pee in a yoghurt pot but b) you have specified the supermarket, fat content and flavour of said yoghurt. Excellent stuff.

I, on the other hand, have designated one of my extensive collection of shot glasses as a piss-receptacle (pisseptacle?!). I hide it from DH in a bit of the bathRoom cupboard which he never ventures into. Don’t worry, I chose one of the crappier ones out of the collection🤣🤣🤣🤣. Or, at work, I piss in a small plastic cup. Given that I have taken on an extra role at work, the aim of which is to reduce our environmental impact, and given that one of my own ideas in that regard is actually to stop supplying those throwaway plastic cups, I fear I may be shooting myself in the foot here if that plan goes ahead GrinHmm

Dolwar · 29/01/2018 21:22

milk in some ways it helps as I do understand the underlying physiology a bit better and I can interpret the results and put them into context without getting hung up on things that are irrelevant. I can explain things to DH as well. We'll just have to watch this space, should get the results later this week as the GP rang me at home the following day last time (not sure if this is also slightly preferential treatment Wink).

bubble that just sounds cr*p I'm sorry.

pibbee, wonky mine is the lid off an old can of Batiste dry shampoo!!

phoebetrixabelle · 29/01/2018 21:36

Hi everyone,

I've looked through forums for AGES but this is my first post. Been TTC since Aug 2016 when I came off pill. I'm about to turn 32 and my doc sent me for tests - blood ones to check if I was ovulating and an ultrasound and all came back ok. Whyyyyy is it taking sooooooooooo long?!?! My sister in law had a baby and then got pregnant again nearly straight away!! Everyone else is getting pregnant!! Why?????? This is the first month I bought an expensive ovulation test where you check over 10 days but doesn't seem to be matching up to the app!! So fed up Confused

WonkyDonk87 · 29/01/2018 23:01

If we knew.... we'd be on the other boards har har.
Pull up a yoghurt pot chair and join the room. Smile

Teachermummy83 · 29/01/2018 23:04

Loving the pee-tubs chat Grin
Mine is one of a pair of little stainless steel kitchen bowls, one now lives in the bathroom, the other regularly holds tuna mayo...... Very careful not to mix them up!! lol

Rubberduckies · 29/01/2018 23:10

My pee cup is the bottom of a plastic cup. I cut the bottom off so it's not too tall. It's a bit wider than a proper urine pot so much easier to pee in it without getting any on me......!

phoebetrixabelle · 29/01/2018 23:15

Mine is an old mug saying mornings suck Hmm maybe that's a bad omen, it's clearly the mugs fault!!

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 30/01/2018 06:46

Mine is a plastic Ikea beaker!

What do you think yammers? Positive or slightly off? Also had a temp dip this morning.

Where there’s a Yam, there’s a way
Dolwar · 30/01/2018 06:58

Hmmm... slightly off I think. My very first positive opk was this month after the Clomid and it was barn door obvious.

Ps just took my bloods myself as the nurse messed it up last time. Saves time at the surgery Grin

We had this conversation on the last yams thread, or maybe the one before that. I have one of those retracting cups so I can take it into the loo at work discreetly and it's not damaging to the environment!

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 30/01/2018 07:53

Yes I thought slightly off too but it was fmu so fingers crossed for a strong + later this afternoon!

Ladies, wwyd? 2017 was a horrible year. I need a break. I want to go on holiday in the summer. DD is off to Florida for 2 weeks with her dad so instead of moping about her house, I want to get as far away from it and from all of this crap as I can. Just a week or so in Spain, nothing too crazy. I just want sun and cocktails and to not worry about infertility and ttc for a while, just me and OH. I priced it up yesterday for the two of us with flights and accommodation and it came to £1300 for 10 days in August. Annoyingly I can’t go during term time as I work in a school so have to pay for the overpriced holidays lol anyway, is quite a lot of money really as it doesn’t take into account spends. I don’t know yet if we will need fertility treatment but if we do, which is very likely, we will have to find it ourselves. So, would you forgo the holiday and save that money to one side in case you needed it for IVF or would you just go on the holiday? I’m in two minds. Could do with saving for what will probably be the inevitable but I also want away from this bloody place for a bit to forget about it all and chill out for once

P.s. I really need to start using paragraphs lol

Book it. Life is too short and if you need the money for IVF you can sort that later. Don't deny yourself now!

Milk that's utter ballbags, totally understandable to feel how you do. Unmumsnetty and Brew

Pibbee · 30/01/2018 12:55

Sorry, muppet alert here but I don’t know much about FSH levels.... What does yours mean @Milk? Sorry you are upset :(

Si1ver · 30/01/2018 12:57

@Bubblegum89 going against the grain here, if you're self funding IVF I'd be saving that cash. Get a last minute deal off travelzoo or similar. The cost of the holiday you're proposing is about the same as a round of IVF at the clinic I'm looking at. Let me know if you want me to send you the price list.

@Milknosugar1 ask for another opinion. Is there a different GP you can see?

RhiBee29 · 30/01/2018 13:29

@Bubblegum89 I agree with @Si1ver, maybe hold fire on booking until you get your results so you know if ivf is going to be necessary.

I think I've been dtd at the wrong times, we dtd up to and on the day of positive opk then usually stop as too tired but perhaps we should also dtd the next couple of days too? Think I've focused too much on lead up to ovulation and not post egg release Hmm

Si1ver · 30/01/2018 13:56

@RhiBee29 yeah you need to get the post ov shagging in really. Cut a couple of times off the front if you're running out of steam.

I regularly get to the point where I'm too tired to carry on post ovulation, so I've been trying hard not to front load the sex schedule. It's a bit counter intuitive isn't it?

DoAsDreamersDo · 30/01/2018 14:01

Bubblegum I'd book the holiday. But I do love my holidays Smile I guess i can see where others are coming from though.

Bubblegum89 · 30/01/2018 14:15

I was looking into IVF prices last night actually. I looked at ABC in London, they do a full package IVF (including meds etc) for £2500. I also looked into Team Miracle in Cyprus because I’m forever hearing women praising them, apparently they’re cheaper than standard IVF prices here plus they have a higher success rate but obviously it means travelling and paying for flights/accommodation. I realise I’m totally jumping the gun and might not need IVF but I prefer preparing for the worst case scenario lol.

I can’t book last minute hols because of my OH’s work, he has to give about 4 months notice if he ever wants any time off, even if it’s just a day. It’s so annoying and part of the reason we didn’t go on holiday last year. Maybe a better idea would be to see what they say after my tests. My HSG is next week so might have a better idea of where we stand. Do any of you know if they give you the results the same day or do you have to wait until your next appointment at the FC? I have a follow up on 27th but a 20 day wait for results might end me tbh

LimpLettice · 30/01/2018 16:34

I would 100% book the holiday Bubblegum but I do also love a holiday. Is there any mileage in looking at a Cyprus / IVF holiday and trying to combine the costs?

((Milk)) sending a hug. On this thread I don't care if it's 'unmumsnetty'.
