TTC after recurrent miscarriage

LisaSimpsonsbff · 10/09/2017 11:48

Hi, just wondering if anyone else was in a similar place to me and wanted to chat about it? I'm 30, TTC my first and have had three miscarriages, all early (two natural MCs at five weeks, then a MMC where a scan at 6+5 revealed development had again stopped at 5 weeks). I've had RMC tests and am just waiting on the results of that but hoping to be able to TTC again from my next period, which should come any day now. I've found throughout the whole thing (have been TTC just over a year now) that it's really helped me to chat with people in similar positions, so if anyone wants to be TTC buddies please let me know!

Welcome, kimmi. I'm so sorry for your losses, but hopefully you'll find chatting here helpful - a lot of us have also been through testing, so hopefully you'll find it's somewhere where there are people who understand what you're going through.

How much longer do you have to wait now, keepon? Totally understand the impatience!

Eek scan showed heartbeat and measuring about the right size. Very shocked but happy. I had convinced myself it was going to be bad news and was feeling very stressed before the scan. I hadn't realised how scared I was of the idea of having another miscarriage until then. I also hate the epu. They are lovely people who work there, but such horrible memories!

Sorry to hear about period Fox.

Hello Kimmi - sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I was expecting my scan to show I'd had third miscarriage of the year too. It's a lot to go through emotionally and physically in short space of time. I hope you are feeling OK.

Keep - Wow that's a quick turn around from one marriage to another. Hopefully it is the right choice for him.

Are there a few of you going into FW soon, if you are still in sync?

Miami81 · 24/10/2017 08:03

Great news mog. How many weeks is that?
Yeah the epu people are lovely but you hate to be there all the same.

keeponrunning85 · 24/10/2017 08:53

Great news mog! Will you have any mote scans or wait until your 12 week one now?

Lisa should be able to start again in 3-4 weeks. Although the consultant said she wanted to do a 3D ultrasound 5 weeks post-op and I'm not having much success with getting that organised which is frustrating!

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/10/2017 09:34

Ah mog, hats fantastic news! Really happy for you Smile

Think I've ovulated early! Must be because we had plans for a sexy weekend and few things ever go to plan Grin

Half term is going well but I'm exhausted! Children and lots of public transport and crowds is a tiring mix. But we're having fun.

Thank you all, been feeling up and down. I’ve still not naturally passed the pregnancy and still have a week to wait until next EPU appointment. I’m so impatient just want to move on now but feeling stuck.

I went for a private consultation and he has recommended I try progesterone and aspirin (75mg) next time I get BFP. Anyone had any luck/ comments on this? (Sorry if already been spoken about on here I did try and look back over posts but there are lots)

Huge congratulations Mog so happy for you. X

Miami81 · 24/10/2017 12:49

Kimmi
I was on the low dose aspirin from bfp in my last pregnancy and also took part in a progesterone trial up to wk 16 of the pregnancy. Unfortunately that pregnancy ended in a Stillbirth of my little girl at 27 wks but already been assured that is completely unrelated to the aspirin or progesterone. I will be pushing to get both in next pregnancy. I know loads of the other ladies are on one or both of these too. I was nervous about them but figured that after 2 mc’s I would try anything.

Miami81 · 24/10/2017 12:52

Also I am so sorry that it is dragging for you. I looked into getting private d&c with last miscarriage as I had had the medical management and it hadn’t worked. It just feels so awful when you can’t even get to the end of the physically awful bit. Eventually I rang the epu crying and they gave me second dose of medical management. Hope you are ok and have lots of support.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 24/10/2017 17:11

Great news, mog - so happy to hear all is going well. Hope it's meant you can relax a bit more.

I've been put on progesterone (to be taken every cycle from 7dpo) and told to take aspirin from bfp, kimmi. Haven't yet got pregnant, so can't report on results! They did tell me that a small number of people find the progesterone has a contraceptive effect, so naturally I'm worrying (almost certainly unnecessarily...) about that - but obviously that's only if you take it before bfp. I'm so sorry that it's proving a prolonged process for you - completely understand why you're so frustrated.

MogScratch · 24/10/2017 20:25

Thank you for all your support. I'm coming up to 9 weeks, so still a long way to go but further than the last couple of times. Not sure about another scan before 12 weeks. I'll see how things are over next couple weeks.

Keep - it's so frustrating when appointments get delayed for no real reason. Hopefully you will be able to sneak scan in just before ovulation so not waiting extra time for that afterwards.

Anne - Good that you don't have to wait as long if already ovulated and you can still have sexy weekend!

Miami - do you expect a long wait until postmortem results? That must be another difficult limbo to be in, although it won't change things, I imagine it will be helpful to have some explanation.

somethingfromnothing · 24/10/2017 20:32

Hey ladies, I've been following the thread but haven't posted since the start. I had my first appointment at the recurrent miscarriage clinic and it was a massive disappointment. The only thing th doctor agreed to do was the anti phospholipids blood test. She said they didn't believe progesterone did anything and they don't prescribe it in my area. I'm so gutted because after 4 losses I just feel I'm loosing hope Sad

LisaSimpsonsbff · 24/10/2017 21:07

Hi something, I completely understand how you feel - I felt devastated when all my tests came back fine and they said that meant there was nothing to do - like I just couldn't do it again without something changing. I am going to take progesterone and aspirin - the progesterone is from Coventry RMC, where I went as a private patient - but the data on progesterone is very mixed, so I think there are a lot of doctors who don't believe in it. I think, however, that the doctor should be doing more tests than that, and it might be worth you checking that. The Miscarriage Association have a leaflet on recurrent miscarriage that lists tests.

I became an aunt today! Was worried I'd find it hard, but I just melted at the photo my brother sent, so at the moment it feels like a straightforwardly happy thing. In a way it's much easier than a random acquaintance's pregnancy - that feels like it's just a reminder of my own unhappiness (and people I dislike keep getting pregnant at the moment!), whereas this baby will actually be one that I'll get to know and love and enjoy.

Congratulations Lisa! That's lovely news. I love my nieces and nephews so much, being an aunt rocks!

And congratulations Mog, fingers crossed for a smooth uneventful pregnancy.

Hope everyone else is well. My AF eventually turned up at 16DPO which is unheard of late for me so messed with my head a bit. Onwards though...

BertieBotts · 25/10/2017 07:46

Ooh how exciting, I've never had a baby niece or nephew. :)

I have officially become TTC crazy and put the baby dance period this month on the family calendar Blush

Good job DS can't access it.

Congratulations lisa! I'm so pleased you are feeling happy. My best friend had a baby at the end of August. I was quite anxious when I first went round to meet him as I didn't want to get upset and spoil things but I just genuinely felt happy for them and it was so nice.

Bertie that is excellent!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 25/10/2017 14:22

Aw, thanks guys! My brother is the only sibling DH and I have between us and he's quite a bit younger, so while their oops pregnancy has sometimes felt a bit hard to deal with, it very much feels like a lovely unexpected bonus to have a nephew! I'm also (more selfishly) a little relieved the baby has been born because she wouldn't have had to be that late to give birth on the due date of my first pregnancy, which really wouldn't have felt great.

Body seems to have gone mad. CD12, normally ovulate on CD17/18, my temps are sky high and have been for a few days, just got a load of EWCM. Every time I think I'm starting to figure out my own patterns, it goes and does something different and weird!

How's everyone else doing?

Big congrats on becoming an auntie Lisa, I'm really pleased and relieved it hasn't been too rough for you. Very good about the due date too.

Maybe it's an ovulate early month! Do you feel like it's happened? As in, your symptoms have matched up with your temps? Sounds good, always a bonus to have a shorter cycle!

I've had sort of the opposite where my stabbing pain matched up exactly with my ewcm, it was pretty much pouring out of me for a day, never know anything like it, and a teeny tiny spots of blood in it twice as well, I would bet the house on having ovulated. But my temps say no Confused FF predicts Saturday but I can feel like it's passed, and I've never been more sure of what my body as up to.

What does it all mean? I'm mentally stamping my foot.

Ha ha! Sure you will Foxtrot. Have you done it before? Apart from first wee of the day I don't think I'd cope with OPKs as I average a wee an hour during the day and everyone says you should wait a couple of hours before doing it. Report back!

It's down a bit today, Anne, so I think I am still to ovulate - I wonder if my progesterone (and so temps) was still a bit high at the start of my cycle because I took it last cycle? I hope it doesn't delay ov if so - I already mildly resent my 33 day cycles! Sorry that you're also confused, it's so frustrating. Are you sure that your temps don't show you've ovulated? Could it be that cross hairs still aren't showing yet?

Foxtrot I use the CB ones - they do cost a fortune, but I just know I'd never actually take the cheap ones because they have to be done in the afternoon. FYI, you can wee directly on the CB ones (I don't, but I never do pregnancy tests either), unlike the cheap ones, in case that makes packing for the weekend easier! I did it once on a hen weekend (oh the glamour) and it worked fine.

OP posts:
ScaryDuck · 27/10/2017 08:23

Anne I had the exact same thing once, including really dark OPK which went blank the next day (i.e. as if ovulation had happened) but my temps didn't budge. I then ovulated about 5 days later with no signs or symptoms at all. Apparently sometimes your body can gear up for ovulation but for whatever reason it just doesn't happen.

Does anyone else have Taking Charge of Your Fertility? I put off buying it for ages thinking everything is on the internet anyway but it is really helpful for stuff like this.

Fox good luck with the CB!
