Hi there,

I'm a newbie here, and I've been finding all the conversations/threads really interesting to read.

Me and DH have just started trying for our first baby. We started not using protection around day 20 of my current cycle (I have quite a long cycle at 30-31 days on average). I didn't really expect anything to happen, as probably too late/I had already O'd. Haven't had full on AF yet, but some spotting. Guessing she is on the way. After AF, we will be starting to 'try' properly, with a full cycle ahead of us – any tips would be appreciated!

Also, I have been doing some general research into how long it might take someone of my age. I had thought that 28 was relatively young (in my friend group, only one has children), but from reading around I see that the majority of people have had multiple babies by my age! What is the average age for first time mums these days? Is there even one?

Hoping to hear from anyone who is in a similar situation to me, and just at the start of their journeys :-)

Hello. This is exactly where I am - husband and I are both aged 28, TTC #1. We've been together for 11 years and married for 4. Where I grew up, everyone had kids very young (as my mum regularly points out to me, she had 4 kids before she was 30), whereas in my line of work, most people wait until their 30s, so I have a slightly weird view of what's 'normal'. I'm really worried that 13 years on hormonal contraception will have mucked with my fertility, and have already discussed with my husband that I don't want to go back on it after we have kids, as I feel mentally so much healthier since my implant was removed (not to mention that my sex drive has magically returned!).

I'm trying to keep the balance between positivity and realism with regards when it's likely to happen, but it's so difficult to be sane about this!

Hi ladies, it's been a while. I wondered how everyone is getting on? I'm on second cycle of ttc and bfn today. Feeling okay about it but I'm starting to worry that we might have a problem. I know people say it can take up to a year, but it's hard when two people I know both got preg in first and second months!

Hi, mind if i join?
I've just turned 29 ttc #1, came off the pill (after 12 years) in March and actively started trying in July so this is cycle 4 for me. My cycles were quite long initially 38 days but have gradually come down and seem to have settled at 30 days.
I was so naive initially and thought it would just happen the 1st month or 2 but I know it is completely normal to take this long, frustrating though isn't it. A few of my friends have had babies in the last couple of years and 7/8 months ttc seems to be the norm so i'm trying not to worry just yet.
Nice to hear stories from people in a similar situation.
