28 and TTC: Anyone else in same boat?

Hi there,

I'm a newbie here, and I've been finding all the conversations/threads really interesting to read.

Me and DH have just started trying for our first baby. We started not using protection around day 20 of my current cycle (I have quite a long cycle at 30-31 days on average). I didn't really expect anything to happen, as probably too late/I had already O'd. Haven't had full on AF yet, but some spotting. Guessing she is on the way. After AF, we will be starting to 'try' properly, with a full cycle ahead of us – any tips would be appreciated!

Also, I have been doing some general research into how long it might take someone of my age. I had thought that 28 was relatively young (in my friend group, only one has children), but from reading around I see that the majority of people have had multiple babies by my age! What is the average age for first time mums these days? Is there even one?

Hoping to hear from anyone who is in a similar situation to me, and just at the start of their journeys :-)

Hi, mind if i join?
I've just turned 29 ttc #1, came off the pill (after 12 years) in March and actively started trying in July so this is cycle 4 for me. My cycles were quite long initially 38 days but have gradually come down and seem to have settled at 30 days.
I was so naive initially and thought it would just happen the 1st month or 2 but I know it is completely normal to take this long, frustrating though isn't it. A few of my friends have had babies in the last couple of years and 7/8 months ttc seems to be the norm so i'm trying not to worry just yet.
Nice to hear stories from people in a similar situation.

Hi ladies, it's been a while. I wondered how everyone is getting on? I'm on second cycle of ttc and bfn today. Feeling okay about it but I'm starting to worry that we might have a problem. I know people say it can take up to a year, but it's hard when two people I know both got preg in first and second months!

Hello. This is exactly where I am - husband and I are both aged 28, TTC #1. We've been together for 11 years and married for 4. Where I grew up, everyone had kids very young (as my mum regularly points out to me, she had 4 kids before she was 30), whereas in my line of work, most people wait until their 30s, so I have a slightly weird view of what's 'normal'. I'm really worried that 13 years on hormonal contraception will have mucked with my fertility, and have already discussed with my husband that I don't want to go back on it after we have kids, as I feel mentally so much healthier since my implant was removed (not to mention that my sex drive has magically returned!).

I'm trying to keep the balance between positivity and realism with regards when it's likely to happen, but it's so difficult to be sane about this!

Hi ladies,

How's everyone doing? Thought I'd post an update. Feeling a bit down as I'm due AF today but just all bfns. I have had crazy sore boobs over the last like 9 days (more than usual). Anyway, I am guessing I will just get AF in next few days, but part of me wants to hope that maybe there is still time for a bfp... Anyone had good news over last few weeks? x

FruitandNutty Yeah I hoped that I would be one of the lucky ones too. I have all these fears about mine and DH fertility. You spend so many years making an effort to not get pregnant - all the horror stories about how it only takes one time etc etc and now when you do try for a baby and it doesn't even happen as easily as you think! Fx and baby dust for everyone!

@Babaganoush123 Sorry to hear that - roll on next month! I have a feeling I'll be joining you too as I have done a few early tests, but all bfns, and I just don't feel pregnant at all.. awaiting AF now. Only first month ttc but I just hoped I would be one of the lucky ones... feeling a bit down even though I know it's normal for it to take months even a year. I don't like the thought of that though really. Hoping it happens soon..

Can i join? 29 and ttc #1. Missed miscarriage in April. Haven't really been 'trying' since. Going to this month though. The longer I'm not pregnant for the more I want it. I know it's a little early but bfp due 20th sept.

Thanks so much Smile. Still can't believe it. Really didn't think it was going to happen this month as didn't dtd much in fertile window. Don't have any symptoms at all but have been ill so maybe masked by that. Just sore boobs but that's normal before Af.

You never know vitadolce. Got my fingers crossed for you and everyone else this month. Xx

Congrats @Sunshinegirl99 ! It's great to hear people are getting bfps so quickly, I hope it won't take me too long.

AF is due in 3 days, not expecting bfp this time as dtd during fw was a disaster. Was only on my first cycle off contraception so will try better for cycle no. 2.

@sunshinegirl exciting!! Congrats!

Me and DP said we were gonna start next month but we dtd last night with no contraception and I'm on cd12 so who knows ! Though he's going away tomorrow and unlikely I'd get preggo from one time (though this happened last timeSmile)

So I'll def obsessively test in a couple of weeks or so lol

Hey all.
Firstly Nicole so sorry to hear that. Horrible news. Wish you all the best and hope you feel better very soon.Sad

Over the last week I've been sick with cold and sore throat and basically been in bed. AF due tomorrow. Yesterday decided to test just so could stop thinking about it and came back bfp!! Shocked. Worried as been so ill it's had an effect on it but excited all the same.
Anyone else got results soon?
Wishing everyone baby dust!!
Xxx

Thank you @fruitandnutty, so far so good! Booked an early scan for next week, think I'll be about 7+4, so feeling nervous/excited for that. Still haven't told anyone yet. Quite a few symptoms already, I'm feeling very bloated, tired, sore boobs but I'm not complaining- finding symptoms quite reassuring at this point.

Good luck to everyone, excited to hear how you're all getting on x

Hi all,

@Nicole468 I'm so sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage in July and it's totally heartbreaking. I felt totally broken by it but I'm feeling a lot better now and excited to ttc again! look after yourself and take a some time to mourn your loss. you'll be back on track soon I promise.

I'm 28 and DP and I are talking about starting to try again once we're back from holiday next month. I'm already getting obsessed (hence how ended up here!!)

I can't wait to be pregnant again and to be a mama. I want it so badly since the miscarriage but I'm trying to relax a bit. Anyway it's nice to have other people on similar journeys to talk to. I'll keep you posted on progress!

Wishing you all best of luck.

Xxx

Ps for anyone worrying about fertility declining I don't feel like it should be too much of a concern in late 20s :) I got pregnant after having sex once in June 😂 Hopefully it'll happen quickly again next time 😳
