We're sort of ttc baby no.2 and i'm 45!! No.1 conceived at 40. Am i crazy.?! Do i really want to do it all again at my age?! 41 was bad enough ..but also wonderful. But to do it all again. We're about to move out of a rented house to a new shared ownership 2 bed so if we have no.2 there would be no 3rd bedroom as there's no way we can afford a 3 bed!..and i'm really happy with just one (baby that is, not bedroom. Lol). .it's much more manageable all round having one ...So this morning i get this opk result..never tried them before..and suddenly i think omg now we'll have to dtd and i don't really want to just like first time round! So scared and yet something drives you to do it. Pesky mother nature! So is this test def positive? If you have a faint 2nd line it says negative. But the longer i leave it the brighter it gets. Aagghh!!

It's very nearly positive. I think if you tested this afternoon you would get a positive result.

dowhatyouwish · 26/07/2017 11:16

I would say it's negative. The colour is very close to the test line, but not quite. No harm in DTD now though.

BooseysMom · 26/07/2017 14:07

Thanks gunpowder and dowhatyouwish... I think it's between too. If i do another one later it might well be pos. But dont they say you should dtd a couple of days in advance then there's more chance of catching??. At my grand old age there's only a slim chance of conceiving.. like 1% or something. We can't afford another one anyway ..Hmm

Gunpowder · 26/07/2017 17:31

The opk usually is positive 12-36 hours before you ovulate, so if you wanted to maximise your chances of conceiving I think you would dtd for the next three days.

I don't think you need a third bedroom for 2dc. We have 3 beds but my two share. I would have a think about how you (and your DH) would feel if you saw a positive pregnancy test in two weeks time, and how you would feel if it was negative. That's your clue! Good luck either way.

BooseysMom · 26/07/2017 18:20

Thanks gunpowder Smile..well i won't know what to feel if it was pos. I went into meltdown the first time as i thought i'd never have any dc's after 2 miscarriages. And being 45 i just think it's not likely to happen anyway. I've always left it in the lap of the gods. .it either happens or doesn't. I usually find that when i think i'm ovulating i get the jitters and freeze up!! So ...how was it for you? Are you ttc? The whole ttc thing is bonkers! You can get so obsessed by it Grin

Gunpowder · 26/07/2017 20:16

All the TTC stuff is a bit bonkers isn't it? My mum was telling me the other day that when she was pregnant with me they didn't even really count the pregnancy until they'd missed at least a couple of periods so it's strange that we now know so early and even know easily when we are ovulating. I really wanted a third baby and so peed on loads of sticks and took vitamins and now I'm pregnant with twins, so clearly all the preparation was doubly effective! Our 3 bed house will now feel a bit small and I'm also edgy about the financial implications, but like you say it's in the lap of the gods and was clearly meant to happen so I'm excited. I think it's totally normal to have that 'oh fuck!' reaction and feeling in two minds means you don't get disappointed if it doesn't work out. Anyway, I wish you lots of baby luck if you want it? And if you just have your one DC then they will always get to be super special which is very nice for them.

BooseysMom · 26/07/2017 20:33

Yes, so true about the one child being super special! He already knows it. I say to him would he like a baby brother or sister and its a big fat no the whole time! Wow, twins..that's amazing! The vits must help. Or you're just super fertile!! I didn't take preg vits with DS and i'd stopped taking folic acid after the last mc..then i fell preg and didn't even realise for 3 months!! I even drunk almost a whole bottle of wine on a night out and didn't know i was preg! Like you say about our mum's days ..they didn't have all this technical stuff and only knew if they missed a period or two. I missed two but was unaware as i still had brown bleeds which were obviously implantation bleeds but didn't realise at the time. Thought i was going into menopause! Anyway i've just done another test and can't see a line at all any more. .can ovulation really come and go that quickly? I've been testing every day for a week and had first strong line this morn. Thanks xx

Hi @BooseysMom yes I think it can come and go in a matter of hours! Get DTD!

BooseysMom · 26/07/2017 20:56

Aaghh no way!! Now i will have to dtd. No excuses! Thanks Pibbee Wink

OP posts:
Pibbee · 26/07/2017 21:02

Yeah apparently it can last as little as four hours! But ov is only 12-36 hours or so after, so you are def in the zone now I'd say. Good luck!

BooseysMom · 27/07/2017 07:03

Thanks Pibeee Wink ..unless it caught the other night when we dtd..but we didn't manage to last nite. Both of us just too tired after the usual battle of getting DS to bed! This morn i have OV symptoms again. Clear slippy mucus and alot of annoying lower ab cramp but then these symptoms start up just 3 days after AF ends and keep going til AF starts so virtually impossible to know when OV happens! And there's no way i've got the energy to dtd every day or other day the whole time in between AF's!! Never used opk's before so worth a try. Did they work for you?? xx

Forgot to say CONGRATS to Gunpowder on your pregnancy with twins ..how long have you got? xx

OP posts:
Gunpowder · 27/07/2017 09:02

I reckon you'd still be in with a good chance if you dtd today! There's a good book called 'taking charge of your fertility' that helps you pinpoint your most fertile period, but it's quite long.

Thanks for the congratulations. I'm 20 weeks so half way through. Torn between wanting to get the pregnancy over and done with and being terrified about how much there is to do and how we will cope once the new babies will arrive, but my new mantra is 'must not rehearse disaster' so I'm going to pretend it will all be fine. Wink

BooseysMom · 27/07/2017 15:48

Yes Gunpowder it will be fine!! You've done it twice before so you must be super experienced! I do admire you. Tbh at my age one is enough!! It's only cos of my DH saying 'What if' all the time that i'm peeing on all these sticks! ! Talking of which.. i've just pee'd on a stick and it was def negative! So according to the opk i was only possibly positive yesterday morning and then negative since then..meaning if yesterday was the day to dtd, we failed miserably! ! I just can't want it that much i guess Confused
