Thread 31, TTC1 | Jam and her dodgers still riding the bonking bus for that elusive BFP

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

We've been going a while now so the novelty has well and truly worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

Key:
HS - have/had sex
GOS - good old shag
ELH - enthusiastic lavatory happenings
LSFX - legs spread, fingers crossed

Newbies very welcome, more the merrier

Mouse eurgh not what you wanted to hear from your mum. If you can be bothered I think it's worth persevering with OPKs. I don't get my positive until day 14 or 15.

Thanks ladies, such a shitter isn't it. I just can't shift the 8lbs that slowly crept on after my mmc. I literally go 1lbs up and down every week. It's really weighing my down (excuse the pun) and I know I ideally need to lose a lot more weight too. I'm switching up my food this week, see if it needs a kick start. I eat between 1000-1400 cals a day and it's 90% really good stuff. 10% cheese (LOL) jokes. Urgh

As for the OPK, I dunno, I just feel like maybe I don't have a build up, I never got a positive on my BFP cycle. I think if I'm not completely broken and my luteal phase is "normal" I should have ovulated today or yesterday. My cycles have been 25 days the last few and before that wildly whatever they fancy. I guess I'm just having a highly inconveniently timed wobble this cycle. I'm usually quite positive but the scary thoughts are creeping in. I have more against me than for. Maybe my thyroid appointment next week might make me feel better. Sorry for the Debbie downer post ladies. You guys are wonderful. X

SmittenPears · 25/07/2017 12:16

welcome struggle is real (indeed) and McTufty... and anyone I missed!

Harriet if AF stays away we can be testing buddies ;)

McTufty · 25/07/2017 12:41

Thank you! In that case:

I'm McTufty
Age 33
TTC #1
Cycle 3
CD3

I came off the pill mid May since which time my body seems to be all over the place. Current AF was one massive clot and tiny spotting for 36 hours starting 8dpo (an improvement on 3dpo last month). Only know it's AF because my temps have gone right down. Ovulation was CD23, so an improvement on the first cycle which was CD30 or something.

I was taking ridiculous amounts of supplements but have just invested in pregnacare so I'll stick to that, plus keep taking my Maca Root. Debating whether to keep taking additional B6 to help my luteal phase, but am concerned it might harm my ovulation and I might be better letting my body take its course.

Hoping this is just the overhang from the pill so am giving my body a chance to right itself but I can't help be a bit nervous that being on the pill for the last 10 years has masked problems.

So that's me! We will keep trying but suspect my body won't be ready for pregnancy for a few months. Looking forward to reading all about your BFPs in the meantime!

mouse

Sorry you're having such a hard time Flowers. I hope you have some luck with your appointment. 1000-1400 calories today I am sure you will see results. With the OPKs hopefully it is just that you have a really short surge and miss it rather than that you aren't ovulating, especially as you had a BFP without a positive OPK.

McTufty · 25/07/2017 12:44

struggleisreal

Hello fellow newbie! Sorry that you are having a tough time TTC, I really hope the IVF does well for you and DH/DP. Hopefully now you've had the appointment you at least feel you're making progress.

flash

Sorry the witch got you, but it's great the Angus castus has worked for you. With a 13 day luteal phase that is plenty and your body is totally ready for your BFP on the august bus!

harrietm87 · 25/07/2017 13:02

Yay smitten I love having a testing buddy! I don't really know when AF is due for me as this cycle was medicated (I ovulated 8 days earlier than normal!) and apparently it might extend my luteal phase too. 31st will be 12dpo so hopefully should be ok to test then. I've had v faint lines at 10dpo (like almost invisible!) and obvious lines at 11dpo with all of my previous pregnancies, though apparently it's different every time as just depends on how speedy the egg is on any given month.

What dpo are you? Any symptoms to report?!

mouse i think it's recommended to eat at least 1200 cals a day to keep your metabolism up. Don't starve yourself!

harrietm87 · 25/07/2017 13:03

Welcome mctufty and struggle!

AlexiaB · 25/07/2017 14:19

Welcome McTufty and Struggle - good to have you here. Hope your stay isn't too long!

I'm so sorry Flash Flowers Good news about your lp, glad the AC had a positive effect on you. Hope your upcoming holiday takes your mind off all this rubbish for a while.

Mouse I've always tested best any time after 2pm with opks. My friend tests best at 11am. It's just about finding the best time for you. It can definitely be hard though if you have a quick surge; I basically missed my positive last cycle but I put two and two together as I had a 75% positive at 6pm and it was lighter nearly 22 hours later. Temps backed it up thankfully. You are doing the best you can and having lots of sex (which is the most important thing!) so don't beat yourself up lovely. Try not to worry about your mum's history either - we're all individuals with different partners. My mum had it all very easy which annoys me lol.

I completely understand how you feel about your weight and how much of a struggle it is. Over the last 2.5 years I started to hate my body and put on a fair bit of 'depression' weight. I've lost almost 2 stone since June through mostly diet alone but I've got a long way to go. I tried to numb the pain by filling up on comfort food which is silly. Keep at it and making positive choices and you'll get your rewards. Sorry this has turned into a long ramble. Good luck for your appointment ❤️

Harriet that must be so frustrating / upsetting that the steroids have made you gain weight. What an unfortunate side effect. Sounds like you're doing all you can to eat well and keep active though.

AlexiaB · 25/07/2017 14:28

Sorry Chlo Flowers Wine Hope you're ok xx

harrietm87 · 25/07/2017 14:28

Wow alexia almost 2 stone since June???! Well done that is totally amazing! What is your secret? And what size were you before? (If you don't mind me asking)

AlexiaB · 25/07/2017 14:51

Thanks Harriet. I've been doing the Atkins diet but without dairy. It's boring and it's hard at times but it's always worked quickly for me. I've always had to watch my weight. I'm living off protein (mainly chicken, bacon medallions, eggs/egg whites) and salad/veggies, soup etc. I've had a little wobble here and there but a slice of brown bread is now a huge treat instead of junk food (which I actually don't miss) and I've had lentil soup a few times. I want to lose 4 stone in total to have a 30 bmi for treatment next year.

AlexiaB · 25/07/2017 14:52

I should add I'm 5"8 and have never been a stick. Was a 12/14.

harrietm87 · 25/07/2017 15:06

Wow I'm surprised you have a bmi of 30 at a size 12/14 - that just can't be right can it? Are you really muscly/have big boobs? (I know that can skew bmi!)

My bmi was 21 at size 10. I'm a12/14 right now at 5'7 and haven't weighed myself but guessing I've put on about 1-1.5stone which would take my bmi to just under 23. I have a major sweet tooth but have always done lots of exercise which has kept my weight down I think.

Atkins sounds good. I'm cutting out gluten and refined sugar and limiting dairy as all are inflammatory which is part of my problem (my immune system overreacts to perceived attack due to inflammation). Know what you mean about it being boring though - you should be so proud!

AlexiaB · 25/07/2017 15:27

My bmi was probably a bit less back then but I didn't weigh myself often. Yes I've got big boobs but I think I've just always weighed more than I looked - which is shit for confidence, especially growing up! I've got a wardrobe full of size 14 clothes and some 12 (which I'll hopefully fit back into soon) and I can't ever remember being less than 12.5 stone in my 20's. Hate my body but thankfully I like my face and hair hah!

Very jealous of your bmi, you must be tiny! Although you've gained some weight you're far from fat and unhealthy. Good luck with your diet, really hope it has the desired effect on your weight and immunity issues.

I am proud of losing weight but then I'm definitely not proud of allowing myself to pile on weight in the first place. I do suspect my meds didn't help either but my bad choices are mostly to be blamed (and ttc!)

MouseLove · 25/07/2017 17:38

See that's the annoying thing, I've never had a bad relationship with food. If anything my portions are my problem but the actual food never has. I love fruit and veg and healthy salads and good food, maybe just a little too much. Think last time I checked my BMI was 33 (to match my age of course lol) and I'm 5'9. I probably need to lose a bazillion stone but since Feb 2016 I've lost 2 stone, then gained back 8lbs since this feb. Ironically 10 weeks of pregnancy and didn't gain a pound despite being bloated to Timbuktu and back.

I've decided I deserve chocolate. Fuck it, I had a good work out yesterday and a good DTD session last night. LET ME LIVE! 😇🖕

Welcome to all the newbies, I really hope you're not hear long... in a good way!

sk1pper · 25/07/2017 18:00

Sorry about AF Chlo xx

Mouse - yeah my Mum told me she took 2 and a half years to conceive me about 12 months into my journey. It seems like I could be heading the same way but I wish she hadn't told me. It's hard to maintain a positive mental attitude with a bombshell like that. I should hope that with everything you are doing, it won't be 5 years. Most women of that generation were the wait and see type, our generation are more likely to turn to science and medicine for help. (Or Google!)

Welcome struggle and mctufty!

Mctufty - in the first year of TTC I had done so much research into supplements. I was taking Pregnacare conception and then boosting it with fish oil, EPO capsules, vit B6, C and various other crap. Now I've stripped right back to folic acid and vitamin D, I'm not even paying out for Pregnacare anymore. It's all a waste of money in my opinion, especially if your diet is good and your eating lots of fruit and green veg.

Can't help with those who have the weight issue. I struggle with being (just) under-weight and I actually am trying to increase my BMI for IVF currently. That said, I did help DH loose 3 stone by portioning and changing our meal plans, it took a while for he weight to drop off him but we persevered and it worked. So my only bit of advice would be to not give up, even if you don't see results right away. But I know it's easy for me to say having never been through the process personally.

kwick · 25/07/2017 18:27

Jesus over 60 posts already!!!! Am way behind - need to catch up! But for now:

kwick
43 21 today
Single been TTC since 2015 - 9 treatments (IUIs and IVFs) and 2 BFPs and very sadly 2 MCs later I am just about to start TTC again - need to get my BMI to below 35 first!
Was with CRGH - now likely to use IVI with double donors.
I do not mind being referred to as a dodger - although not too keen on these biscuits (or is it a cake???) IRL - much prefer iced buns or doughnuts Confused

Happy to share my "patent pending" 2WW list Grin

chlo Flowers

mouse why not try SW? May give your weight loss a boost and I can be your virtual buddy?
Your body is NOT broken!

harriet sorry I missed this - why are you taking steroids?

Welcome McT!!!

Welcome struggle!!!

HallowsandHorcruxes · 25/07/2017 19:06

Hi waves

Can I join please? Smile

Age: 28
TTC: #1
Cycle: ? Been trying since summer 2015
CD: 29

Have been trying for a couple of years now (though not religiously testing/tracking etc until recently) Haven't been able to get a positive on my ovulation tests yet.
Had a fertility assessment carried out privately and the scan looked fine apparently but AHM quite high but no other signs of any problems. Suggested that I'm possibly not ovulating?
Determined to make a better effort at tracking my ovulation this month and fingers crossed!
Oh also started Seven Seas Trying for a Baby supplements as advised by the fertility nurse so hopefully that helps.

Good Luck everyone !

sk1pper · 25/07/2017 19:10

Hi Hallows - how much does the seven seas vit cost?

harrietm87 · 25/07/2017 19:28

It's fairly cheap skipper - def cheaper than pregnacare and way smaller and easier to take. From memory maybe £7 a box? I only moved to pregnacare max on the advice of my consultant, and tbh he probably just has a deal with them or something!

kwick is it your birthday?? Happy birthday if so!!
I'm on steroids as testing after mcs showed that they were likely to have been caused by an autoimmune response - basically my body attackinh the pregnancy as an invader 😢. The steroids suppress my immune system but the side effects are horrible. (Obv would go through pretty much anything for a bfp)

MouseLove · 25/07/2017 19:29

Kwick do tell me more about this no raw veg and cold items on your list. I feel like I may be committing that sin on a regular basis. 🙄🙈 I'm an avid fan of the no diets club, I don't think I'd be able to do SW and keep my cool. Maybe if I completely fail at what I'm doing now I may consider it. I use MFP now although I've fallen a bit slack with tracking the last few weeks.

I got myself a twix. Gonna gobble a finger after my cod cakes. 😂😂😂😎

sk1pper I will gladly lend you some of my BMI. You don't even need to give it back or anything. 😇

HallowsandHorcruxes · 25/07/2017 19:34

Hi Sk1pper,

I got a month supply for £3.59 on amazon, worth a go for that price I reckon Smile

Kathrino · 25/07/2017 19:44

Welcome to all the newbies! I hope your stay with us is short.

I'm another one struggling with food at the moment. Have got into some terrible eating habits and must clean my diet up. Starting tomorrow obviously ;)

Happy birthday kwick!!

SmittenPears · 25/07/2017 20:10

I so feel the pain of those trying to shift extra weight. While I wasn't looking last year a bunch of extra hopped on. Have been exercising much more and being very on top of my diet. (Naturally slim DH has no idea the struggle... sigh...)
Alexia, (hi!!) I second the "weighing heavier than you look" issue, I have always felt this.

Harriet, I'm 6 or 7 dpo today. If AF is coming it will be by 12dpo. The only "symptom" I can spot is now-and-then twingy ovary pain, which I know can mean anything. You?
