Hi all, thought I'd get the ball rolling on the new thread.

Welcome all with immune/natural killer cell issues.

It's been a while since a new thread so thought it might be helpful if we all added our stats:

I'm harriet, age 30, TTC#1.
3 mcs (2 at 5 weeks, 1 mmc at 9 weeks).
Hypothyroid and high NK cells.
Cycle 2 on pred!

Great mantra poppy, one I will try to remember over the next few weeks.

So glad your scan has gone well just Smile
*
Sunny* lovely to hear from you! The sleep issue must be so exhausting, but perhaps your bodys way of prepping you Hmm
The next 7 weeks will fly by!

I'm currently sat with Tallulah having fallen asleep on me (which rarely happens these days) just thinking about how truly lucky I've been. There were dark days when I couldn't even date to imagine that I'd have moments like this. All the pain, heartache and stress is soooo worth it Smile

PoppyJ1 · 15/08/2017 18:38

What a week!

JustLa, this is great news, I'm so pleased! So close to reveal time, how wonderful!

Goes to show how many scary situations turn out well. Very encouraging.

I have just scheduled in fertility focused homeopathy/acupuncture with the women who cured my childhood cold sores and some weird giddy spells I used to have. She's a registered osteopath too and has an approach that blends with western medicine. The apt will be two weeks before DP and I will be trying again, so hoping she can give me a boost.

Have also been talking to my accountant about self employed maternity allowance and looking into how having a baby affects my tax estimates, etc. The Law of Attraction! Grin

Tee4me · 15/08/2017 21:01

Did anybody here the reports on B3 last week? That's tomorrow's brekkie sorted 😋

JustLa · 15/08/2017 21:04

Thanks all for well wishes 😊

Sunny thanks for the update, you're so close to the big finale! How exciting :)
Hope you manage to get more sleep before the little bundle arrives.

Poppy what a great idea! Geri Halliwell had a baby at 44, naturally conceived with help from acupuncture! Think Celine Dion did too so it must be really effective ⭐️

Xx

JustLa · 15/08/2017 21:06

Oh oh good article Tee, I'll buy some tomorrow!
Smashed some twiglets today, hope they count 🙌🏼

Tee4me · 15/08/2017 21:18

Yes twiglets!!!!
I strongly recommend acupuncture girls. The lady I see has a wonderful holistic/supportive approach.

Sheepy1980 · 15/08/2017 21:29

Well things should be sorted at work, and I sadly made a formal complaint against a staff member being a bitch before I went sick it is being investigated, but said person is off this week and it is calmer and no atmosphere.
I do wonder why some people are in this job as they have no compassion I have had a lovely shift and spent time actually talking to my residents and the 'difficult' ones are usually the ones that like to have a chat someone to talk to. And someone that treats them as a person not a piece of meat..
not having so many effects of the predisnolone now that I am taking omeprazole along with my meds.
Hopefully will have my appointment with professor quenby soon but I have my Willow centre appointment in 3 weeks. Enjoying the snuggle time with hubby a lot at the moment

harrietm87 · 16/08/2017 08:01

poppy I love that mantra - thanks for sharing it! It's so hard once you've lost that innocence of expecting things to be ok - you just swing to expecting the worst and believing it will come true.

seeking your post made me well up! I can't wait for the day when I have my own baby sleeping on me 😊

sunny so good to hear from you and you're almost there!

drttc has your dating changed now? I think I'm 6w today - are you slightly behind now? Hope you're feeling better.

tee I'm excited for you! Not long to wait! Great that the thyroxine has given you a boost. I've had my results back and my TSH has gone up from 1.94 to 2.93, so need to up my dose. My GP is total crap and won't see me till Friday, so I'm just self medicating an extra 25mcg/day for now. I can also ask mr s on mon.

luna how are you and where are you at? Are you in FW yet??

OP posts:
harrietm87 · 16/08/2017 08:02

sheepy glad you've been proactive at work and hope the culprit gets a good telling off!

OP posts:
LunaB · 16/08/2017 08:40

Great news sheepy! Best way - get them told off officially!!

I'm busy updating my little spreadsheet on you guys (😂), and adding little heartbeats next to all the new babies being baked ❤️

Not entirely sure what that means harriet... but anyway nothing happening with me... the usual aches starting to signify ovulation upcoming (I suffer badly from ovu pain so can literally feel the little blighter pop out!)... not getting jiggy yet... this weekend marks Phase 2 of baby making quest

I'm wondering how stuck is doing?

harrietm87 · 16/08/2017 08:50

luna FW = fertile window, aka getting jiggy time!

That's so good you know exactly when you ovulate. Good luck this weekend! So you'll start the pred next week?

Have you heard of the shettles method? The idea is that boy sperm swim faster but girl sperm live longer, so the closer to ovulation you have sex the more likely it is to be a boy. Only anecdotal obviously but of the last 15 babies born to my friends/work colleagues only 2 have been girls which I think supports the theory as everyone was trying! I wonder whether the invention of opks means there will be a lot more boys born?

OP posts:
JustLa · 16/08/2017 09:25

Yes Luna, I keep wondering how Stuck is getting along?
Would love an update if you're still dropping by Stuck xx

PoppyJ1 · 16/08/2017 09:45

Harriet that's so interesting. I have heard of Shettles method and heard it's about 65% effective.

Good question about the OPKs. I suppose it will cement the trend for sex on a particular day, theroretically swaying pregnancies in favour of boys. However, we also know that O day and the day before are the most likely days to get pregnancy anyway so most pregnancies are conceived at such times and a roughly equal gender balance in still achieved. Could OPKs sway it further though? Perhaps it could even go some way to offsetting the fact that there seem to be more conditions that cause women to miscarry boy fetuses than the other way around? If so, perhaps we could see an increase in the male population...

JustLa · 16/08/2017 09:46

And Luna, you're in my notes to start TTC on 23rd 😂😂

JustLa · 16/08/2017 09:50

Interesting theory Poppy! I heard something about boys being more likely to be lost too, seems odd and I didn't look too much more in to it.
Had blood taken for Harmony test yesterday and ticked a box to let me know the sex of my little wriggler... eeeek, I could know in the next couple of weeks! I don't feel like I need to wait for the birth to reveal the surprise (although my and DH are keeping it between ourselves) but just having a baby will be surprise enough for us! Lol xxx

harrietm87 · 16/08/2017 10:16

Ah just that is so exciting! I don't think I will find out if I get that far, but I'm convinced it's a boy anyway.

Those of you with little ones already - did you find out or wait for a surprise?

OP posts:
PoppyJ1 · 16/08/2017 10:42

JustLa, I would absolutely be doing the same! I don't know how people hold out knowing the info is so readily available! Grin

A few weeks ago when I was feeling miserable about the whole TTC, DP's eldest daughter (11 yr) cheered me up by piping up with "if you and Dad have a baby will you find out the sex or wait for a surprise?" I said I would absolutely find out immediately and she thoroughly approved of my answer! This was in response to them having to wait until their cousin's birth to find out its sex.

I know that two thirds of babies born to women with my endocrine condition are girls. No one knows why. I wonder if my MCs were with boys.

Seekingmiracles · 16/08/2017 11:03

My friend actively used the shettles method to have girls...worked 3 out 4 times.... and then she was pissed off that number 4 was a boy! That really wound me up... 4 healthy babies!!!

Just had my appointment with MrS' stand in.... she was SOOOO thorough!! Baby measuring 9+1 by her scan so I'm going with that!!

PoppyJ1 · 16/08/2017 11:14

Congrats Seeking! Great confirmation of yesterday's good news, sounds like the different scan machines agree better now!

Yes I hear you on how frustrating it is when people moan about gender, especially given that everyone has a headline 50/50 chance so it should heatedly be a surprise.

Interesting to hear the 75% success rate your friend had on Shettles. I have heard, though, that for people for whom he priority is simply to get pregnant, there is a risk that trying to sway for a girl risks not getting pregnant at all. For example, prob not worth the risk for people with fertility issues, particularly on the sperm side.

harrietm87 · 16/08/2017 11:31

Yay seeking that's great news! That is interesting about your friend's success with shettles. I despair of people who are "disappointed" with healthy babies though. Had the same thing with a friend who is 2 weeks behind what I would have been with my last mc. She found out she was having a second boy at 10 weeks after the harmony test and complained to me how terrible it all was, when I'd lost my baby a few weeks earlier. Argh.

That's so cute with your DP's daughter poppy - how many dcs does he have? Sounds like you have a great relationship.

OP posts:
PoppyJ1 · 16/08/2017 11:52

Harriet, that's really insensitive! Some people are weird like that, they almost like to rub it in.

My DP has 4 kids! I'm very lucky that they are all amazing and we get on pretty well with their mum and her new partner.

LunaB · 16/08/2017 12:36

FW, got it! Although I do prefer BF - boink fest...?

I've heard the same re girl and boy sperm... I also read that boy babies more commonly die in infancy (cot death etc.) which is why their sperm lives longer I guess; to help more boys be born. Everyone I know has boys!! I'd be happy with either!

Amazing Seeking! Woooohoooo! Little darling bean getting all grown up!

Lovely your little one will have so many wonderful siblings Poppy; blended families are lush!

JustLa · 16/08/2017 13:54

Awww it's lovely to hear all your views!

Harriet, I like that you want to keep it as a surprise, that's something traditional about a pregnancy that you want to preserve and these are the things that are a little lost to us. Like the dungarees and painting of the nursery ⭐️

Poppy, you're with me on this one... yay! I feel like it will help hubby bond with bump as i have been so reluctant to let him touch it in the last couple of pregnancies as ... unfortunately I have that guilty feeling that I'm letting him down (unjustly I know)
How cute of your DP's daughter, that innocence brings back a bit of excitement again 😊

Seeking that's so fab!!!! I had her yesterday- did you get the feeling she had seen how much we paid and was like 'shit, they could get this from me free at the NHS, I better put some extra work in!! ' lol she scanned me for so long I ended up worry about my gummy bear getting over stressed, baby was throwing out shapes and ninja moves lol. So glad you're measuring up well! Woot woot, another step along the road x

Xxx

JustLa · 16/08/2017 13:55

Yessss boink fest for you soon Luna, shave those ankles and iron your bloomers!! 🥂 Xx

PoppyJ1 · 16/08/2017 14:10

Yes JustLa, the girls really keep my spirits up through all the TTC stuff. They're very keen for me to have a baby and often ask whether it's in the cards! We haven't told them about my miscarriages because they were so early but DP and I have discussed that it won't be a secret in the future if they want to know things, just not appropriate for now. They're aged 8-11 and very aware of baby loss because their teacher had a miscarriage, a family friend had one and their nanny's horse had one. It's quite a big subject for them, actually. Very comforting to know they're aware and sympathetic.
