sorry i have mucked up the dpo please adjust accordingly when you put in your temps - sorry

question - my temp yesterday was 36.98 and today it is 36.83 so does that mean it is game over as it has dropped 1.5 degrees?!

Hello ladies, I see a few familiar faces (well, names...) here and am hoping I can come and join you?
Have never temped before but told myself that if no BFP this month then I would give it a go and, hey, period arrived this morning!
I don't have a thermometer and I don't have a clue....simple advice please on what I should do (ooooh, a bit of poetry going on there )
I know I need to get a special thermometer.....where is the best place to get one? And what is the best way to record my temps? And what should I be looking for and acting on?
Thanks for the help.
Oh, and congrats to you Beansprout!! Fell free to pop into the hut bearing gifts at anytime.....

Iwillbe- if your temps are as you say, then they've fallen only 0.15 degrees, not 1.5. I don't use a special fertility thermometer, but find my standard digital showing shifts of 0.1 degree perfectly adequate to show my temp shifts. It depends I think on what your standard temp shift is. It does look as though it's heading downwards though, I'm afraid.

duchesse · 21/04/2007 10:04

feedmenow- I'm sure I'll miss something, so am referring you to this site: www.fertilityfriend.com/

It should answer most questions. Just remember to take your temperature before doing anything else in the morning including supping your morning cuppa or going to the loo.

Ready · 21/04/2007 10:22

Iwillbe - It doesn?t necessarily mean game over just cos your temp dropped by 0.15 of a degree, so long as it is still above your coverline?? What happened last month? That is the only way to know if it is a trend. I have seen lots of charts on TCOYF/FF that ended positively, and there were fluctuations ? the key is the coverline. But lots of people's temp does start to drop off towards the end of the cycle. Everyone is different, so you won't know til anything happens, or doesn't. Sorry I can?t offer any conclusive answer. Fingers crossed though.

Feedmenow - Welcome aboard!! I will do my best to tell you what I know about temping, apologies in advance for the waffle ? First thing you need to do is get a BBT (Basal body temperature) thermometer. I am pretty sure you can buy them online (accessdiagnostics.com etc) but if you want to go and buy one today ? Boots is where I got mine. It cost £12.50 and comes with a graph booklet (I love my little booklet ? and I never stop going on about it ) to plot all your temps. It also explains temping very well. In a nutshell temping is not a predictor tool ? so nothing that you plot can really be acted on - it?s just a confirmation tool really. You should get at least 3 temps at least 0.1 degree higher than 6 consecutive lower temps to confirm that ovulation has taken place ? and your post ovulation temperature should remain elevated above a coverline. After a few cycles you should start to see a pattern, and then will be able to pin-point the best days to try the following cycle. See I told you I would waffle. I hope you haven?t slumped comatose onto your computer ? I am sure someone will be able to explain it all better and in a more succinct fashion ? But in the mean time ? lovely to have a new temp buddy aboard!!

Rah - Enjoy your cakes Hope you are feeling ok? It?s lovely that you make time to help clean out the church ? even if there is the promise of tasty treats How are you feeling about this cycle? Relaxed and groovy? Hope so, because you have that dangling carrot of a Fertile May just on the horizon and I hope it is helping you keep going. Hug.

NappyValley - ? I suppose I am lucky that DH never goes on strike. Doesn?t seem anyone else wants to join us in the 1 to 10 descriptions? How about 3. Hair and teeth are brushed, clothes are on, but there will be no smiling. ??

MrsMcJnr - I am so sorry to hear that your glands are up ? a sure sign that you are pushing your body to its limit! Hug. I hope you have a lovely weekend seeing friends! Really relax and enjoy yourself ? chuck back plenty of rioja or whatever your favourite vino is!! You deserve it!!
I feel foolishly confident this cycle ? and I am beginning to irritate myself with the constant optimism. I know I allow myself little wallow moments, but I set myself up for a fall every cycle, and I wonder when I will learn that it isn?t good for me!?

Greedygreedyguzzler - Yes, the effort has been fun though And I am doing my best to save the reputation of the Patron Saint

Beansprout - How exciting!! Our first BFP in a while! I agree with you, the GPs have bog-standard advice. I like to chart personally, it helps me relax more. I can see a pattern, and it calms me. But I agree with the plenty of sex advice

Seaside - Is everything ok chick?? You have been very quiet of late, and it is most unlike you.

Lottie - If you are lurking ? I hope you are having a wonderful time!! Missing you chick!!

Everyone else ? hope that the fine weather is holding out. Except for you Rattling - I hope the rain is falling, so that you can get out with your horse

Oops. Crossed posts with you Duchesse

iwillbepgbydec2007 · 21/04/2007 11:44

my coverline is 36.51

it looked like it was dropping the day before then i went back up to 36.98. i dont have any previous charts to compare to as this is the first complete chart i have done.

i suppose il have to wait out the next cpl of days paranoid waiting for af to show i know im not this month anyway but still the last few days the possibility that i might creeps in!

minxi · 21/04/2007 14:30

Oh I was being v relaxed until now!! Just been to the loo and argh bright red blood - no sign nothing that my af was on its way, except for feeling weepy which is unusual for me anyway! Just checked dates and only on cd24 about 10 dpo (put ov as cd14 as didn't temp this month and wasn't sure but did have dreadul ov pains around cd12/13) thought the clomid was supposed to extend lp ? guess back to cd 1 and temping again - at least I know where I am each month!...didn't think I would be pg this month but just hoped that mp lp would be longer!
Hope everyone else ok - enjoying the sunshine!

OP posts:
Ready · 21/04/2007 14:39

Oh Minxi - I am sorry to hear that. Boooo. I might be wrong, but I thought Clomid just helped to increase production of FSH and LH and thereby stimulated the ovaries?? I didn't think it was connected to the LP? But then I haven't really researched it. You said you felt pains on 12/13??
Hang in there, sweets.

minxi · 21/04/2007 16:21

I don't know Ready - haven't fully researched but thought it was to stimulate ovaries but also to help regulate to 28 days...just been to the loo again and there is nothing ?! Anyway must go as gardening today, then am out tonight with girlfriends for dinner and drinks!! argggh why is nothing ever simple!!

Hope you are okay ready especially with your marathon amounts of trying this month should be a positive vibe for you !

OP posts:
minxi · 21/04/2007 16:23

oh p.s. ready re: pains dreadful pains to the point I nearly took pain killers!! and I try never to take anything! so put it down to the ovulation pains! which I usually get mildly anyway....

OP posts:
Ready · 21/04/2007 16:32

Minxi - I am sure you are right about the LP - and if you had pains on 12/13 then that would make it 11/12 day LP wouldn't it??
I heard that Clomid can cause pain, as the follicles are over-stimulated I'd imagine?? But I imagine that it's a good sign?
It's strange that you have no blood at all now - how much blood was there before??
Enjoy your gardening, I have been out in mine throughout the day, popping online to check DHs progress, and of course checking on MN - very quiet isn't it!
Enjoy your evening out too - take your mind off of everything.

NappyValley · 21/04/2007 21:26

Forgot to take temp this morning (and am usually pretty lazy post OV).

You can experience bleeding that is not AF such as polips etc. Which are kind of short sharp heavy flows.

I think today was a 7 - Can cope with all but news of a friend being pregnant (temp buds excluded obviously) although wouldn't mind a few extra hours kip.

Feedmenow welcome I am new to this group too. They are very lovely (but don't tell them I said so). Charting is a great way to see what your body is up to as well as give yourself a more focused chance of getting your timing right. It worked really well for us first time round. But seriously you need to have the thermometer under your pillow and take temp before you even get up. My temp goes all over the shop if I even get out of bed or have a drink of water.

I have finally worked out what AF is but what does BFP actually stand for?

Iwillbe - I told you a dip in temp didn't definitely mean anything negative It's impossible to tell from one temp. Fingers crossed for you flower I sometimes take me temp during the day - I don't know why, because it means nothing - so many factors will affect your temp once you are up and about - so don't read anything into a day-time temp.

NappyValley - BFP means Big Fat Positive, the result on the pregnancy test that we are all yearning for! And BFN is The Evil Twin

Minxi - I hope you had a great night! How are you feeling today, and more importantly - have you bled anymore????

Rah - Hope the cleaning went well and you got lots of nice cakes to eat

Seaside - Hope you are feeling more chipper soon, hon, miss ya! Hug.

MrsMc - I hope you had a lovely weekend with your friend. And you were nothing but relaxed

CityAngel - I think we are due on the same day - fingers crossed for us

Beansprout - How are you feeling? Have you tested again and got a stronger line?

Rattling - It started to rain here this morning and I wondered if that meant your part of the country it was too - hope you got a chance to go out on your horse

Duchesse - Hope you have had utilities

Fettleandminifettle, Honeyapple and Greedy - BIG HUGS! Hope you are all feeling wonderful And still pulling some strings to get some BFPs over this way

The thread seems to have gone a tad quiet, at the moment. I hope that it is just the nice weather keeping people away from their computers and it is not because everyone is getting fed up with waiting for the BFPs

Ready - thanks for asking. I tested again and got a line so faint that it really was a hold-it-up-to-the-light-but-then-again-are-my-eyes-playing-tricks-on-me jobby? I'm really all over the place. I know the MN mantra of no such thing as a false positve, but now I am convinced that HCG levels are just dropping and period is probably on it's way. That said, temp is still high. Then again, it's still only day 28. Am all over the place and not sure if this is even the place to be agonising about it, which is why I have been a bit quiet. The only thing I can do is wait.....

Iwillbe - hope you had a good day! Your temp still sounds nice and high so will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Feedme - am really glad you are here too. I've found temping to be really useful as it tells me what is happening and eliminates some of the guess work. I keep my thermometer on my bedside table and just reach over for it. I don't even sit up and put it in the same place in my mouth each day, so paranoid am I about affecting the result!!

Minxi - good night? How are you today? Any more bleeding?

Duchesse - how's your house? Is it behaving itself?

MrscJnr - How are you feeling? This business really does take its toll. Hope you are ok

Rattling - Hope operation shag is going to plan

Seaside - You ok? It's all gone quiet over there....

Everyone else - hope you are all having good weekends!!

Phew!!

Ready · 22/04/2007 14:20

Beansprout - Oh flower, how frustrating. Sorry if I fuelled the fire by saying a line is a line. Try to relax as much as you can, and try testing again in a day or two. How long are your cycles normally??
And don't be daft, this is definitely the place to agonise over ttc! We are all in it together, and we want to support each other through thick and thin!!! Hang in there!!
