Thread 28, TTC #1 | We may be hormonal giraffes but we don't eat no low fat humous

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

We've been going a while now so the novelty has worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

Key:
HS - have/had sex
GOS - good old shag
ELH - enthusiastic lavatory happenings
LSFX - legs spread, fingers crossed

So sorry harriet such an awful situation. I hope they are able to find a way to support future pregnancies so that you don't go through the heartbreak again.

AlexiaB · 19/04/2017 17:37

I'm so sorry Harriet, what terribly sad news Sad It's so unfair that this has happened to you again, it's devastating. I'm glad you're being referred now to get answers. Please don't lose hope! A positive is you don't appear to have issues conceiving, so I know with a little help (or luck) you will have your take home baby very soon 🌈🌈🌈

Sending lots of love and healing thoughts your way Flowers ❤️ We're all here for you and will welcome you back when you're ready xx

AlexiaB · 19/04/2017 17:42

Jam glad you had a much nicer experience today, sounds like a lovely Dr. Does this mean instead of starting IVF in Jan it's been moved forward to Oct? If so that's decent I guess. Bit odd he said you can't ttc after a HSG, that's not the norm I don't think.

Fx for your next opk Kerry

sk1pper · 19/04/2017 17:48

Oh Harriet how horribly unlucky you've been. It will happen for you hon so don't give up. I have no idea what an MC is like but I can imagine that no words will make you feel better right now. Just know we're all here for you when you need us xx

sk1pper · 19/04/2017 17:50

Jam - I wasn't told that, they purposefully fitted mine in between AF and ovulation so I could try!

Kathrino · 19/04/2017 18:03

Glad it went well today Jam. I think we'll start in September/October so it will be reassuring to be going through it with someone else at the same time (normal caveats about us both hopefully not getting to that stage apply obviously...). We had exactly the same reaction re IUI, doesn't really seem much point given the relatively low success rates and we'd rather just go straight to IVF.

Londonjam · 19/04/2017 18:03

He was SO much nicer alexia. The reason its October and not December is because I managed to get a cancellation for our follow up. It was initially booked for end of May. Only slight frustration is that he wouldn't prescribe me clomid. I did ask but he said its not recommend for women who ovulate regularly - which I do. I called my obstetrician friend afterwards to go through it all and she said he's right - the NICE guidelines say there is no clinical evidence to show that it helps women conceive who already ovulate regularly. A little frustrating but I guess they are the experts. My doctor friend also said she would definitely have the HSG so I'm going to be brave and go for it.

skipper what the hell - that is the exact opposite advice I've been given! They need to do the HSG between days 6-10 of my cycle (after AF and before ovulation) so I don't see why we can't try straight after? My doctor friend said it might be because you'll still have that dye up there - she's going to ask her colleagues for their opinion on it. I really don't want to have a wait a cycle.

pyjamas what did yours say about HSG and trying?

Londonjam · 19/04/2017 18:04

Ahhh kath we can definitely hand hold :D We should both read that IVF book pyjamas recommended also I reckon!

Jam that's annoying about Clomid but not much you can do I guess. It definitely is prescribed to those who ovulate (although it's vital for those who don't), Geeup is just one example, and I know countless cases with friends on FF where it's given them actual babies but as you can see with the conflicting HSG info you've received, Doctors give out different advice strangely. Pretty sure both skip and pjs didn't miss a cycle after their HSG so I'd be inclined to ignore that advice, but that's just me rebel Wink

SmittenPears · 19/04/2017 18:19

Harriet so sorry, will be thinking of you in the coming days Flowers

Pyjamas81 · 19/04/2017 18:29

Oh no Harriet - there are no words. Just know that we're here for you. You've been in my thoughts often today 💐💐

Jam - my clinic said ttc straight after was totally fine (just a 24hr break - I was sore!) so like skipper I timed it so that we'd be ok to try again around next ov time.

Me and DH are the same re: IUI - I know ivf is more expensive and more invasive, but I don't want to fanny around (excuse the tenuous pun). I've always been a sledgehammer/all or nothing approach kind of girl! It's surprising how much I put up with when I really want something.

kwick · 19/04/2017 19:02

@harrietm87 I am so very sorry. You are an amazing, strong woman and you will get through this - even if it may not seem like it now. PLEASE demand that they run tests on the tissue, also you should get carrier analysis done and tested for blood clotting issues.

Flashinthepan · 19/04/2017 19:05

Harriet in so sorry. There's nothing else to be said that hasn't been said. Here for you whatever you need.

I'm watching call the midwife and crying. Why do I do this?

I'm definitely going to ask the gynaecologist about getting an HSG when I see him next week. Given that I think my spotting issues are hormonal I'm not sure a gynaecologist is really the right person but Dr seemed reluctant to do any blood tests etc.

KerryLeanne84 · 19/04/2017 19:10

Harriet 💔 This is just so fucking unfair, I'm so so sorry for you💜

KerryLeanne84 · 19/04/2017 19:11

Jam - add me to the list of people who weren't told not to try after HSG. I also researched it a lot and never came across that anywhere. People anecdotally always talk about getting pregnant the cycle after because it clears out everything (after 1 period) 😘

sk1pper · 19/04/2017 19:15

Jam - I dug out my HSG paperwork but annoyingly there is nothing to say either way about when you should start having sex again. My gynaecologist just told me to start when I felt comfortable to do so again because you can be a bit sore afterwards.

QuietTime · 19/04/2017 19:18

Harriet I'm so sorry, how awful and unfair. You're amazing for being at work - you must be incredibly strong. Take care of yourself xx

Londonjam · 19/04/2017 20:16

Thanks for the reassurance kerry skipper I reckon I'll call and book it tomorrow. When AF comes it'll give me something to focus on!

So sorry to hear that harriet, absolutely gutting. I would definitely say make sure they do testing on the tissue too. When I went to see consultant privately she basically said that was massive opportunity missed.

Same consultant also said definitely try after hsg as it makes you more fertile as everything is 'cleaned out' so to speak. She said lots of people advise to wait but there's no need at all.

Miranda234 · 19/04/2017 20:46

So so sorry to hear your news Harriet, it's so cruel. Take care of yourself Flowers

InspectorPenguin · 19/04/2017 21:02

Hi ladies, just checking in after the Easter break and sorry to see it's been a bit of a low week :(

Except for you, Alexia, you got your shag! Woop! I certainly hope this is a sign of things turning around in that department for you.

Harriet I'm so sorry for what you're going through and really admire your bravery. I hope the next week isn't too awful and am sure you'll get your perfect sticky bean before very long at all.

Jam I'm glad you had a better experience with this doctor. I was told that I could have sex as soon as I wanted after my HSG btw, and think we did that night. Clearly didn't benefit from the legendary fertility boost though...

Also really pleased you don't have to wait until Dec if you go down IVF road too. October will be here before you know it - just the other side of your first summer in your fab new house :)

Flash sorry this cycle has been messing you around like this. Has AF arrived in full force now? I think I've read spotting can be related to low progesterone, but I don't know much about it at all or whether you'd get very far discussing with a GP sadly. Your Gynae should at least have a good understanding of the systems and be able to offer some advice.

Sk1pper your story made me chuckle. It has to be a good omen, surely!

MrsH I was on Microgynon for 18 years and it looks like it took ten months for my cycles to settle at 31 days. Until then they were between 38 (cycle one) and 31 days, with a rogue 41 day cycle in cycle 8.
You're very early into your journey so try not to stress, it's perfectly natural for it to take time to settle. Easier said than done though, I know, I can remember the frustration very well!

Kwick, hope work is a bit calmer for you at the moment and allowing you to focus on yourself. Have you got anywhere with the search?

Sorry for anyone I've missed there, trying to update on the train home and struggle when on my phone... Have a good evening all, here's hoping we get some happy news soon 🤠

Flashinthepan · 19/04/2017 21:21

Well penguin I genuinely believed it had. TMI but this morning I had dark red flowing blood. But as of this afternoon, no bleeding and boobs still hurt. I think it might be af but slightly thrown off by me upping my b complex to 100.

Pugmummy87 · 19/04/2017 22:09

Flowers Flash.

harriet I'm so sorry. Hoping that Monday comes round quick for you so you know exactly where you stand and can go from there. If you have an Erpc ask if you can have the tissue tested. Thinking of you. Flowers

london nothing in my paperwork about skipping a cycle after HSG. In fact our doctor told us to make sure we take advantage of it and have plenty of sex due to the anecdotal evidence that conception rates are increased in the few months after. We had GOS last night and I'd had the hsg that morning.

skipper your story hade me proper lol.

Binkybunny13 · 20/04/2017 07:26

Harriet so sorry to hear your sad news 💐 Take care x

Flashinthepan · 20/04/2017 08:15

I have had no bleeding since yesterday morning. I don't have any more cramps but my boobs are a bit less sore.

What the hell is going on? Why can I not just have a normal.cycle with a normal period!

I know this is 100 per cent not the worst thing some of us are dealing with right now so sorry if this comes across as insensitive.
