So I am 9dpo and my uterus has felt really achy since 7dpo. It seems way too early for PMS, but exactly like I actually have my period. Not sure whether to expect AF, or a BFP on Friday ...

I did test yesterday and today (I just can't resist on weekends), but unsurprisingly got BFNs.

OP posts:
NeverGoOutOfStyle · 26/03/2017 21:20

No changes here other than day 46 with no AF or BFP. I've felt consistently sick for a few days and tonight it's really really intense, but don't feel like another bright white box staring at me, so I'm going to wait until this cycle matches my longest ever cycle (that was without any hormones or my m/c) before I test again, just to maximise my chances of seeing what I want to see.

I hope everyone is doing okay today, I feel so selfish since I have so many friends that are fantastic mothers, and I have my own wonderful mother and mother-in-law but it definitely feels like something is missing.

SummerHopin · 27/03/2017 09:28

So, AF arrived this morning.

Totally not expecting it so was a bit of a shock. It means that I've now had 2 natural AFs on metformin alone and my cycle was 39 days.

Seeing the nurse at the clinic tomorrow so going to discuss things then.

I'm not sure if I should see this as a mini triumph or not? Obviously any bleeding is a big flag that you're not pregnant, but given that I had so long without bleeding should I see this as a good thing?

Also, I had all that EWCM just under 2 weeks ago, so that would give a bit of a short luteul phase if I did ovulate - not to mention wtf was that almost positive OPK last week???

Am v. confused. Its a lot to process out of the blue on a Monday morning Confused. Help!

AmyC86 · 27/03/2017 10:53

summer sounds like your headding in the right direction.

I had a natural 34 day cycle about 6 months ago. I was on holiday when AF come and bit me on the bum, and I didn't take any clomid with me.

Because I'd not had a regular cycle like that for as long as I could remember I wasn't expecting to see the obvious signs - really sore nipples from the 3rd week in & so much EWCM that I even commented on here & askEd if it was a side effect to the clomid! I didn't think for one minute that it could have been a proper ovulation!!

Stick at it, make sure that you have plenty of DTD.

looking4hope · 27/03/2017 13:28

That definitely sounds like a step in the right direction, Summer, great news. Although this cycle didn't end up in a BFP, you should feel positive as having a regular AF means you're not far off.

It also gives me some reassurance that Metformin can improve things, so I'll definitely give it a try once the scan saga ends.

Last spring, I gave Inositol a try as I read a lot of good things about it. My cycles did become more regular (around 40 days or so) and I don't think it's a coincidence that I got pregnant a few months after stopping it. I only stopped because of tummy problems. Giving it a try again, hoping to see AF soon as it's been nearly 2 months since my last one... didn't think I'd ever miss / look forward to AF pain!

SummerHopin · 27/03/2017 19:06

Thanks ladies. Amy you are so right I totally wasn't expecting it and was really shocked ......then sad.....then happy about it!
Hope I honestly can say metformin has helped me. I've lost about 10lb on it and have now had 2 periods. Who knows if I ovulated but I have had EWCM so that's more than before.
Going to talk next steps at clinic tomorrow. DH and I are going to sort our questions etc tonight otherwise I will get no sleep thinking about them.

NeverGoOutOfStyle · 28/03/2017 14:12

Has anyone else had a glucose tolerance test? I'm having one on Friday and after that I'll be prescribed metformin (fingers crossed!) but I am feeling a bit nervous about it, I'm told they're quite unpleasant.

Anoter BFN for me this morning, CD48 so assuming it's just taking it's time and I'm definitely not pregnant.

YouBoggleMyMind · 28/03/2017 14:17

Not had the test no, sounds like quite a long drawn out process though? Only from what I've read online.

Sore nips and ewcm is a good sign of ovulation right?! My mood is in the gutter but I can be positive about those things right??

satsoooma · 28/03/2017 14:29

I've never been offered that test Never. Would have liked to know the result though, so that I would know if I should be putting extra effort into eating healthy.

Where are you with your cycle Boggle? Those sound like good signs to me.

OP posts:
YouBoggleMyMind · 28/03/2017 14:41

Hi Satsooma, cd16 here. Fridays follicle was 14.6mm so should be ovulating around nowish?? Opk was dark but not quite positive yesterday and no smiley face on CB opk test. Will test again when I'm home and see if that shows anything.

satsoooma · 28/03/2017 14:50

Ooh, that is exciting Boggle!

I am soooo close to test day (Friday, or Saturday), and feeling very un-relaxed.

What is really bugging me this cycle, is that I have had constant acne/cramps since ovulation. Those two things are ususally a sign that I am about to get my period, and it helps me keep my hopes in check when they show up late in my cycle. But now I have no idea what is going on, because I have had non-stop acne and cramps for weeks!

SummerHopin · 28/03/2017 15:06

Hi Never - not had a test either, was in fact just given Metformin to see what it would do.

Satsooma and Boggle sounds like you're both in exciting places at the moment. Imagine if we were just a sea of BFPs this summer :)

YouBoggleMyMind · 28/03/2017 15:09

We've DTD every other day since cd10 and will continue into cd20 just to make sure we've cover it. I'm then have a progesterone blood test next Wednesday which will be cd24. I won't be testing until after Easter though (if I get that far...)

I am writing with good news ladies. Had my NHS initial appointment today with DH. Was weird going back to square 1 giving all our history when the clinic already have us on file privately, but the nurse was lovely - she'd been doing this for years and was very knowledgeable. She said that Metformin was clearly working too if I'd had 2 natural AFs and lost so much weight, so next step was def Clomid.

I can now safely say that having had the tests we did privately we were able to tick all the boxes ready to go straight for getting Clomid. In fact, the nurse popped out for a minute and returned with my first 6 cycles worth there and then - ready to start the first one TONIGHT since AF came yesterday so today is cd2. I am so excited! I thought that it would be weeks before we would get to see a doctor to then get a prescription, but the nurse said that my file looked very textbook and she was sure I was ready for clomid now, so why wait.
......an NHS person who says "why wait" is like gold dust!!! :)

So here we go - 50mg, first time. Let the hot flushes and mood swings begin. Follicle scan booked for next Thursday 6th April :)

SLady · 28/03/2017 15:16

Let's hope satsooma and boggle get their BFP's together this round. Double fingers crossed

How did your appointment go today summer?

satsoooma · 28/03/2017 15:18

That is great news Summer!

If really enjoyed CLomid after takign Metformin, as the side effects are minimal in comparison. My recommendation is to take it before bed, because I prefer waking up all sweaty to suddenly getting sweaty at work, although I think not everyone prefers it that way round.

Also, wear PJs - easier to change sweaty PJs than sweaty bedding. DH and I actually use separate duvets when I am on Clomid - he can't sleep next to me as I am just radiating heat.

YouBoggleMyMind · 28/03/2017 15:19

Summer excellent appointment!! So glad you can join the hot sweats!! You'll love them GrinWink

SLady · 28/03/2017 15:19

Wow brilliant news Summer how exciting for you!!! AF showed just in time!! Can you remind me what tests you had, just so I can make sure I have ticked them all off too (I think I have). Will you be carrying on with the Metformin as well as clomid? Who prescribed the Metformin to you?

SummerHopin · 28/03/2017 15:41

Thanks guys, was really excited to get on here and tell you. Thanks for the tip re. the sweats too Satsooma - the nurse said too about taking it at bedtime, so I'll get ready for that.

SLady In order to be referred I had to have:

  • rubella in date (just a blood test if they dont have it on file)
  • clamydia swab
  • smear within 18 months
  • days 2-5 and 21 bloods
  • another blood test that was an all round one for various things!
  • ultrasound
  • SA (but we had this privately as wanted result sooner than we could get on NHS)

These were all GP led tests - apart from SA - so that my referral got to the clinic. These can all be booked freely via GP its just a bit of a logistical nightmare. Our problem was that we never got a list like this at the start, so our referral was rejected for (1) rubella not checked, (2) clamydia swab not done, (3) day 2-5 not present because I hadnt had AF! If you have a ticklist my advice is just get going - get them all done so that they are on file for whenever they are called upon.

As part of our appointment this morning we then needed to have had an AMH blood test (we had this privately), possibly an additional SA (although DH's private one covered lots of criteria and was seen as fine), HyCoSy was recommended (we had this privately but if you havent I think we could have chosen to do clomid first then HyCoSy later on - but you have to stop ttc for a few weeks in order to have HyCoSy so be careful of that). If we werent on Metformin at this point they would have started that, and I dont think they would have given us clomid and Metfomrin at the same time, but then they may have started clomid without Metformin - that seems a bit of a postcode lottery from what I've seen. She also wanted another ultrasound as my one (not sure if you remember from previous thread but it was hell!) wasnt documented - but she did it there and then! Honestly this women was amazing, I was up and on the bed in minutes and she had a good look round before ticking that off the list as she went along.

So if we hadnt have gone private we would now be on the list for AMH, HyCoSy and possibly a more detailed SA if the first SA had been NHS. Its not the end of the world waiting for these and tbh the nurse was so on the ball I expect we would have had those quickly anyway. I just felt that we finally were seeing the benefit of our choice to do these things early.

Should also remember that I am 32 so in a way time is more of the essence for me than someone in their early 20s say. Either way it was a fab consultation! Hope this helps - let me know if you have any other questions.

SLady · 28/03/2017 16:10

Thanks summer so helpful! I have had all those tests apart from HyCoSy and AMH - can you get these tests on nhs? So she didn't want you to try Metformin on its own for a while to see if you'd concieve on that? I'm not sure why Metformin is given to be honest, is it just to regulate periods/lose weight or can it make you ovulate? Any tips of questions I can ask? I'm seeing a consultant next week!
