@SLady let us know how your first appointment goes!

I will hopefully be getting to my first apt soon... I've just filled out a form online and paid for a fertility clinic. We have decided to sack the NHS and do things privately (until we run out of money 😳). Reviewed my blood test with the doctor today from the gyn, she said that at this point, provera, metamorphin or clomid is not what I need. Apparently there is 2 hormones or something going on in my brain that is not allowing my ovaries to produce eggs? So clomid stimutes the ovaries to release the eggs and she said I'm not at the point yet. Just big lumpy ovaries with no eggs in there it sounds like :( it's so confusing and I'm done with the waiting game. My mental health is suffering from all this uncertainty so biting the bullet and going private once and for all.

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/04/2017 22:10

That sounds very confusing Elizabeth! What are these 2 hormones??

AmyC86 · 05/04/2017 23:18

Probably feels like a weight haso been lifted Elizabeth

I imagine that the hormone you're talking about is Gonadotropin-releasing hormone which is developed by the hypothalamus.

AmyC86 · 06/04/2017 06:58

Morning all xxx

Another day, another dollar!!! Cba with work this morning but needs must! Lol xx hope you all have a great day 💋

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/04/2017 07:49

I also can't be arsed to work but it's one day closer to the weekend. Good luck with your appointments today ladies.

ElizabethCatherine · 06/04/2017 09:46

@AmyC86 thanks for that!! I'm pretty sure that's exactly what she was talking about. As soon as she said clomid and metamorphin won't help me my ears started to get clogged and I couldn't listen anymore lol and I didn't understand.

Barsons83 · 06/04/2017 09:50

Hey Elizabeth, I think I may have similar issues. Whilst clomid is growing my follicles, my brain is not sending out the lh to release the egg. Am trying the trigger shot with clomid privately this cycle so fingers crossed!!

SLady · 06/04/2017 10:14

Morning ladies,

My appointment went well. All my hormones are looking ok except my progesterone which should be 30+ and mine was a 1!! A ONE!! I can't believe it! I've got no chance of getting pregnant naturally!

He thinks Clomid is the way to go as I am obviously not ovulating regularly or at all. DH has super sperm, like literally way above average in every category eyeroll. He said he didn't recommend having a HyCoSy yet as from my background there is low risk of tubes being blocked but it's something to perhaps think about cycle 4/5.

They don't do follicle tracking which surprised me. So first cycle I'm just off with my tablets and the recommended days to DTD while my body adjusts to clomid. 2nd month I have a CD21 blood test and readjust dose as necessary. Which makes the private route a very cheap option!

I can't start Clomid until AF arrives anyway which could be a looooong while yet as only on CD19 so I'm going to have a think and decide.

I'm feeling good though. Was nice to chat to someone about everything. He seemed to think at 29 there is no reason to panic and said I have so much time and 1 year of trying is so normal!

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/04/2017 10:36

Sounds like a positive appointment! Shame you don't get any tracking though! Good luck and fingers crossed!

SLady · 06/04/2017 10:43

Yes I know. Was a bit disappointed about that. Trying to look on the positives though - no need to worry about getting time off work and less to stress about. He said they used to offer it but not anymore, he said they'd know by CD21 bloods whether it's worked anyway. Also, anyone interested in doing OPKs (while not on clomid) he said they do work, you just probably have to do more of them and they're harder to read

SLady · 06/04/2017 11:27

Also not only will I not have tracking but I will only have one CD21 blood test on the second cycle. So, if it shows I've ovulated, no more blood tests for the rest of the treatment. Crazy isn't it! You ladies are lucky to be being monitored so much or I'm just unlucky. Either way xx

SLady · 06/04/2017 11:31

And CD21 results are available the next day. Crazy how different things are in different places

AmyC86 · 06/04/2017 11:42

My progesterone bloods where 1.2 after all clomid rounds apart from last time on 150mg and was recorded at 37.5

SummerHopin · 06/04/2017 12:04

Morning all.

Back from my scan. No amazing news to report sadly. No dominant follicles - just one at 6mm and one at 8mm. The nurse said that she wants to see me again next Tuesday to see if either of those are just late developers, and if not then she said we may as well just go straight to 100mg next cycle (either natural or provera induced). The lining looked pretty good though for the stage that I was at which I was happy about as my periods are very short so I worried it was too thin.

I am disappointed, but also know that I need to be thankful for (1) being monitored, (2) going back again next week, (3) having a good lining and (4) having the next phase of the plan already waiting in the wings.

I didnt quite know what to think of the jump straight to 100mg though. On the one hand its good as that may work better, but I thought maybe she had a feeling even now that 50mg just isnt going to do anything? Not sure.

Back at work on mumsnet so just got to look at the positives and see what happens Tuesday. It means more time off work though Confused I think I have got to the point where I must tell my boss.

Barsons83 · 06/04/2017 12:13

Hey Summer, I was put straight on 100 with no tracking and it's been fine

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/04/2017 12:15

Sorry Summer, fingers crossed for 100mg! Or late developers! Has happened to me once! Xx

SLady · 06/04/2017 12:19

I guess I'll never know how clomid is working month to month. I might forever be a 1! Least it takes some of the stress and the prodding and poking away I suppose (trying to be positive)

Sorry to hear that summer Flowers but as you say lots of positives, maybe you just need a higher dose and if so least you can start that for your next cycle. What CD will you be on Tuesday?

Can I ask what days people have been advised to DTD on clomid? Or what days people make sure they cover?

ElizabethCatherine · 06/04/2017 12:29

@Barsons83 fingers crossed for you!

@SLady ya my DH is excited to see what his swimmers are doing.. men lol

@SummerHopin it's nice that you have monitoring and appointments to look forward to and progressing. Slow but getting there! My fingers are crossed for you too x

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/04/2017 12:39

Summer, we DTD this time round from cd10 - cd20 every other day.

SummerHopin · 06/04/2017 13:18

Sorry about your prog Slady, but overall the appointment seemed a success - I think it can be hard just getting clomid out of some docs so at least you're all set.

Thanks everyone for your messages. I've had a Brew and am trying just to see this as a trial run ready to start properly next cycle on 100mg. Next Tuesday is just a bonus scan and another chance to ask any questions.

MY DH is running the Brighton marathon this weekend so we had been giggling at the idea of having to DTD at 4am before he got ready to run. At least now he can just focus on the hours of running and not worry about me badgering him for baby making all weekend! Wink

FluffyEwok · 06/04/2017 17:36

Slady I wasn't monitored just bloods. I went to see the midwife today my due date is 18th November

allthecheese · 06/04/2017 18:00

Hi all,

Thought I would jump into this thread (currently on the April bus) as I've had a scan today that shows polycystic ovaries. I'm really down (cracked through a tub of ice cream, I am such an emotional eater!!).

Wondered whether there was anyone who could advise me of next steps? I don't know whether I'm ovulating or not (cycles are between 29 and 53 days, but mostly 30ish on average).

Any advice for a newbie? My weight is totally fine (despite the odd ice cream binge!) and I don't have any other symptoms.

SLady · 06/04/2017 18:51

Oh really fluffy that's good to know! And it all worked out well for you so makes me feel a lot better! I wonder why some places monitor and some don't!? How exciting, hope you're still feeling well xx

NeverGoOutOfStyle · 06/04/2017 18:54

Good to see lots of positive appointments!

I had my glucose tolerance test yesterday and I think for most people, it would have been an okay experience because it's just finger prick, blood draw, drink horrid syrupy orange drink, sit for 2 hours then blood draw, finger prick again, but for some reason unknown to me they decided they wanted a cannula in, and as my veins wouldn't corporate, they had to get one in, then take it out and do another one 4 times in total! I'm pretty good with blood and things usually but this wasn't great.

Also, my missing period arrived today, 57 days. I had gotten quite hopefully that it meant something being so much longer of a cycle than any I've had perviously but I guess it wasn't meant to be. What were some of your cycles like before any drugs? up and down or sort of regularly irregular?

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/04/2017 18:55

Hi Cheese, welcome.
I'd defo get some bloods to work out if you're ovulating or not. That's the most important thing to know. Your DP may also need a semen analysis to make sure he's got no issue either.
