Welcome Ronnie.

You sound very similar to me in age, BMI etc, so just to let you know that I am on Metformin and have got my BMI down to 24.0 from 25.0 (not a massive difference, but consultant said even that would make a difference to PCOS symptoms). I've also had 2 natural AFs on it too so I would recommend.

To be honest, they will probably give you metformin alone to start with as that can be enough of a push for some to get going. I'd been on it for about 3 months when they then added clomid to that. Dont be disheartened just having metformin though, many people get their BFP on that alone as it is enough to kick start your ovaries into working.

Shout if you have any other questions - we're a pretty knowledgeable bunch between us :)

Thanks @Summer seems like I've had a lot of the tick box done I hope! (Ultrasound + blood test with gyn). I'll see my doc on Wednesday and ask about metamorphin- I changed doctors so I hope this one will work with me a bit more. If she says she won't refer me or the clinic won't seem me until 1 year then I'll go for a private consult at the fertility clinic but I can see prices racking up with that I bet pretty quickly x

ElizabethCatherine · 03/04/2017 12:51

Welcome @ronnie yes lots of the ladies are so helpful on this thread but I am not as far as everyone with treatment. I am hoping I can get metamorphin from my doc and start clomid or something soon! I hear ya on the no period front, mine has been gone for 8 months now since stopping birth control. I wonder if I ever had a real one

AmyC86 · 03/04/2017 17:20

Elizabeth the one thing about PCOS is that the majority of the symptoms can be easily controlled with the pill. So the bleeds you experience with the pill are real bleeds.

ronniemipperton · 03/04/2017 22:00

Thanks Summer & Elizabeth. Well, the woman who did my scan on Saturday told me to go and speak to my GP but my GP told me they didn't have any of my results and couldn't do anything Confused. Called the hospital and they said I should have been given another hospital appointment rather than sent back to my GP, but the earliest appointment is end of May Hmm

Ah well. After so many months of this I've learnt to be patient.

ronniemipperton · 04/04/2017 05:51

I'm sure the answer to this is all over this thread/forum but to save me the time (sorry!) - I haven't done any ovulation tests before, thinking of ordering some ClearBlue ones off amazon but not sure if there's anything I need to bear in mind being a PCOSer? Beyond the lower probability of a positive result...

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/04/2017 09:21

Opks can give you inaccurate readings if you have PCOS unless you're on something to make your cycle appear normal, in which case opks are fine and will show the right thing.

Cd23, approx 6dpo, progesterone blood test tomorrow. It's weird that my discharge is brown right? It had a pinky tinge yesterday. It's not massive of it, but defo there. Doubts are starting to creep in after saying how positive I was at my counselling session yesterday.

SummerHopin · 04/04/2017 09:54

Hi Boggle, hang in there mate. I cant remember did you do OPKs this cycle? Have you had any other symptoms?

I'm on CD9, but first clomid cycle and not quite sure what I'm supposed to be doing. I keep reading how clomid can make you ovulate early - but how early? Not sure when to start getting into the DTD swing of things, but we have a scan this Thurs (CD11) in which I guess we'll see if there is anything growing?

Not sure if its the clomid but I keep going from moments of real hope and positivity to moments of sheer panic and doom! I cannot stop thinking that there is more I could be doing.....i just dont know what!

Any advice from you clomid-ers? xx

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/04/2017 10:09

No, I didn't bother with opks as my scan told me I had a follicle and they guessed I'd ovulate last Wednesday. Felt a bit crampy but nothing to right home about.

Would wait for your scan summer, they'll be able to tell you what's going on and then you can do opks if you want or just try every other day like I did from cd10-cd20. Know we've covered every base then.

Barsons83 · 04/04/2017 11:02

Summer the scan should also let you know how thick your endometrial lining is. This is important for implantation.

Fingers crossed for you Boggle. Hopefully this cycle is the one. I understand completely how it's hard to stay positive. If I knew it was gonna definitely happen at some point in the next yr, that would be fine but it's the uncertainty

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/04/2017 11:04

Brown discharge/spotting has also never ever lead to anything good. Cd23 seems super early though.

AmyC86 · 04/04/2017 17:11

It could be implantation boggle I can still feel it in my waters for us both xx today I'm CD15 and feel crampy. Shite nights sleep last night, hot flushes aplenty. DTD every other day since CD5 fingers crossed for us both!!!

SummerHopin · 04/04/2017 17:18

Boggle and Amy - fx for you both.

Thanks Barsons I'm also a bit worried about the whole lining thing as my periods are very light normally, only a couple of days. I mentioned that to the nurse the other week and she didnt seem worried - I have been googling ways to make it thicker though in case I spend all this time worrying about ovulating only to have a crap lining to catch it!

How are you doing?

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/04/2017 17:22

Amy I've decided that's exactly what it is. Just baby getting cosy and making a mess as it will when it arrives! Grin

Barsons83 · 04/04/2017 17:36

Summer I eat pomegranate the 1st few days of my cycle and drink raspberry leaf tea to thicken it too. Hopefully it's doing the trick.

Am intrigued about what will be going on in my CD 11 scan next week. Am just hoping they'really ok for the trigger and there's not lots of follicles!

SummerHopin · 04/04/2017 18:17

Barrons I read that today and bought some this afternoon!! Might not work this time as already cd9 but will try.

Sounds like we are at similar stage then re follicle tracking. I'm excited about thurs but trying not to get hopes up too much.

HollyWollyDooDah · 04/04/2017 19:23

This will be a long one... sorry

I have a 6yo dd from my previous "marriage"
I struggled to fall pregnant with her but I did. My bloods showed low hormone levels and the second ones showed pregnancy.
Carried her to 29+4 when she made an emergency exit through the sunroof.
I can't remember why as I was completely off this planet (anaesthetic does that to me) but I think it was a problem with umbilical cord.

Anyway I've had lots of issues with cycles and pain and heavy periods. Had two laparoscopies and was put into menopause with a mirena in place.
Long story short they told me I have endometriosis, merina fell out and had the most horrendous blood loss ever. Got sent for a scan and that was it. Didn't hear anything. Went back to go around 6 months later for same symptoms and they said the scan had shown a shadow. I panicked as did my mum and partner. Went for another scan which apparently showed nothing.

Have been ttc for just over 2 years now and no joy. Did opk kits for Jan and feb this year and no ovulation.
Had my bloods redone, and another scan which the gp has just phoned me with the results.
I have pcos. My 21 day bloods are due tomorrow which he said to continue with as it'll show whether I've ovulated or not.

He also said that because of my age (28) that I should just carry on down the natural route and come back in the next year to two years if nothing has happened.

I was in shock so didn't really question anything as this phone call was completely out of the blue - wasn't expecting results until next week.
But basically I don't want to wait another two years, I didn't have a good pregnancy after 20 weeks with my first and it really knocked me for six and I'm worried that the longer we leave it the harder it will be to actually fall pregnant and then the pregnancy too. I'm well aware that I could have an amazing pregnancy next time round but we would like two or three more children and I just feel that time is not on our side.
I know that may sound rediculous but that's how I feel.

Does anyone have any good advice on how to help myself with fertility and what questions to ask/treatment options?

I am overweight which doesn't help I know but I am doing something about that.

Thanks everyone and well done if you made it to the bottom

AmyC86 · 04/04/2017 21:52

Welcome to the thread holly

HollyWollyDooDah · 04/04/2017 22:23

Thank you Amy :)

SLady · 04/04/2017 22:24

Hi holly welcome to the thread.
Did you say you are now going through the menopause? If so, I'm shocked you are not being offered help with fertility now. Or maybe I have misunderstood. Either way, if you've been trying for two years you should push your GP for a referral to a fertility clinic. They say that losing weight if overweight will really help and also alot of ladies on here have been prescribed metformin which you can get from your GP which may help with weight loss and regulating cycles, might be worth asking your GP about. Hope that helps

HollyWollyDooDah · 04/04/2017 23:04

Sorry it's so complicated ive missed a bit out!
I'm not in induced menopause now. That finished nearly three years ago now.
I'm going to book an appt next week with gp as I've got Bloods in the morning so thought I'd wait for those results to be available then we would have a clearer idea

Is metformin treatment the first port of call?

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/04/2017 08:56

7dpo and progesterone blood test done. Still brown discharge and a bit crampy. Making me nervous now.

Welcome holly, sounds like you've had a rough time. All I'd say is push your gp for more bloods and get a referral. I started trying when I was 26. I'm 30 in November and all I've got to show for it is an early miscarriage. Now in the horrible 2 week wait.

SLady · 05/04/2017 09:01

Clomid is usually the first port of call for ladies with pcos but some doctors try people on metformin first or combined with clomid, particularly if they are overweight. Metformin can be prescribed by your GP but it doesn't specifically induce ovulation, it helps with symptoms and in some cases can make you concieve as a result of that. Clomid can only be prescribed by a fertility clinic and it specifically induces ovulation. You should be eligible for a referral if TTC for 2 years. Do you have regular periods now?

SLady · 05/04/2017 09:09

boggle it's way too early for AF right. Will be interesting to see what the blood test says. How long do you have to wait for the result?

I have my first appointment with the fertility clinic tomorrow and I am SO EXCITED!!!

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/04/2017 09:14

AF isn't due for another week going by my app and the last few cycles I've had. Clomid has made them longer. However I have spotted up to 5 days before AF has turned up before. I can't shake this worry that my progesterone levels are shit. Results won't be back at my clinic for another week at least and they don't call me, I have to call them and I think I'll know either way by that point if that cycle has worked. Right now, my hopefulness is fading.
