Hi everyone, mind if I join?
I'm 32, on my 5th cycle of ttc#1.
Cycles are regular (30-31 days) periods are short but heavy (3 days max) and I'm struggling to pin down ovulation.
Since coming off the pill in Aug '16, every month has been different! I've had swollen boobs and cramps for the first time (the pill was good at disguising period symptoms!) I've had back aches and one month a lot of egg white stuff, but haven't noticed much since!
Tried using test sticks but not sure how accurate they are, having fun on the days it says I should but periods arrive like clockwork!
This month, amongst other times, we did it 3 days in a row into my fertile week (according to an app) and I had lower tum pains for 2 days after which a friend said could have been ovulation, but I feel something different every month since coming off the pill so don't know what's going on in there really!!
Due on on 4th Feb so got a lovely couple of weeks of waiting now which is fun isn't it lol.
I don't trust my body though, last 3 months I've been SURE I was pg just by all the different feelings I was getting but never have been, it's always been just a new random period symptom! The joys.
Any advice or experiences welcome xxx

MrsC2017 · 22/01/2017 19:17

Misty, try the opks, my app was very much out this month and the ov tests confirmed it, otherwise I would have missed out!
chaos congratulations, very exciting for you!!
afire keep testing, I didn't get positive OPK til cd17 and I don't have a long cycle usually!

MistyBxx · 22/01/2017 19:28

Is opk the ov tests? For LH? I've done them a few times but only just realised (too late) that 2 lines doesn't mean it's a positive... only if the 2 lines are identical in colour, both vivid. I've always thought that if 2 lines are visible, even if one is pale, the LH is there so time to be getting jiggy Wink but just found out that's not the case!

This month, I had 2 very vivid lines last Thursday but because we had done it the night before, and in a weird position lol I was very tender inside lower tummy for 2 days after (which is what my friend thought could be ov pains, but I've never had ov pains before) so I didn't do it again til this morning (by which time, I think I will have ovulated and missed it if my LH surge was only definitely positive Thursday, egg would have popped out and gone by this morning I imagine)
If any of that makes sense!

So lush to see everyone helping and chatting on here, just taking me a while to get used to the abbreviations!xx

MrsC2017 · 22/01/2017 19:51

Yep Misty that's them, they are confusing buggers, I'm new to them too this is cycle #1 for me! I had a faint one yesterday afternoon, was darker by yesterday night and then very dark this morning so the faint ones can tell you that you are coming along I think..... I had very definitive negatives before them! As for how long you can get positives on one for I don't know, maybe someone else can shed some light!

MistyBxx · 22/01/2017 20:16

Oh thank you. I have always timed my tests with this app (it's called Clue... it's been spot on with my period dates and is really easy to use) so I've only ever tested during my Clue-predicted fertile week and have only ever had (what I thought were) positives (being 2 lines) although the LH line has always been much fainter than the test line.
Thursday was the first time I've seen a distinct vividness on the LH line where both lines were very dark! That's why I started looking into the results properly and it says on the packet that even if 2 lines appear, unless they're both dark, it's a negative for the actual LH surge. But it makes sense what you say as if Clue has predicted my fertile weeks correctly, then surely the LH will be present and 'building up' to the surge?
Please anyone feel free to correct me on this lol.
I would also like to know if the LH surge means the egg is actually on the move... or if you get the surge and THEN the egg pops out... if anyone could enlighten me on that.
Apologies for sounding really dull... this whole conception thing has been a bit of a surprise for me, I've spent all of my life trying NOT to fall pregnant that I honestly have never looked into the opposite!
Makes me wonder how on earth people get pregnant by accident lol (although I'm fully aware it happens... just recently to one of my best friends! I was very happy for her of course, but I couldn't help rolling my eyes like HOW lucky are you?!?)

PingusMistress · 22/01/2017 20:33

Hi there, hopping on the bus to join you!
2nd proper cycle of TTC for #2, CD1 as AF showed up today so I have a looong wait till I can test again.
I didn't really track things properly last cycle but I'm going to put in a bit more effort this time! I have a clear blue fertility monitor which I found so much easier than OPKs last time as there is no ambiguity. It certainly isn't cheap though.
Good luck to you all!

MistyBxx · 22/01/2017 23:14

Me again! Ok I've just downloaded Ovia app to track my cycle. I've been using Clue for 5 months but because I had just started ttc at the time I first downloaded it, I didn't know my cycle length so have been basing it on the average of 28. Having started again with Ovia, and entered my actual cycle length which is 30-31 days (I've used 31 in the app) looking back over my last few months, I've hardly dtd in my fertile week at all! Or just once!
facepalm!
So with a new app and an updated and correct cycle length, it appears that I dtd on my ovulation day today! I thought I had missed it! Although my opk did show lines Thursday and Friday last week...
I may just be clutching at straws lol.
Roll on the next 2 weeks til I can test/AF arrives (hopefully not!)
Fingers crossed for everyone Flowers

DoctorDonnaNoble · 23/01/2017 06:28

Hopping on just so I have some people to talk to about it.
TTC #2 it's difficult as DH does shift work and looking after my little 16 month old and working part time as a teacher is quite exhausting. Anyway, hi

GN06 · 23/01/2017 09:08

Hi all, CD15 today and 5th day of high reading with clearblue monitor. Desperately hoping for peak- if I don't get it, it'll be the 3rd cycle where I haven't got it. Have an appt at the docs in 2 weeks anyway so will definitely be mentioning it!! I'm assuming it can only be one of two things, either the LH surge is too low for it to detect, or I'm not ovulating... 😭

mrsbarnettsbaby · 23/01/2017 09:29

I'm still lurking. Cd41 today. Not tested yet as back in November I had a 67 day cycle. Trying not to symptom spot but my boobs are killing and lots of cramping around my uterus. Could be either AF or pg. Really hoping for a bfp this cycle as dtd every day when I should have been fertile. Good luck everyone.

BluePheasant · 23/01/2017 09:44

Fingers crossed barnetts, it must be so frrustrating with cycles that long, my longest has been 45 and that was bad enough!

I'm on 4dpo, had light pink discharge the day after I ovulated (according to OPK) so pretty confident they were accurate.

Be so careful using Ovia, I found it way out and was the reason why we missed the right time the first few cycles of trying. Think the apps are good for keeping a record for dates but I wouldn't rely on it for deciding exactly when to dtd!

DoctorDonnaNoble · 23/01/2017 09:58

Should have said CD15 here. Usually a 28 day period.

MistyBxx · 23/01/2017 10:06

Thank you Barnetts, the thing that looks odd is that with Clue, on the 6 day FW, the day before last shows the expected ov day then the very last day after that, chances drop dramatically (which I believe is the case because the egg only lasts a day or so) whereas with Ovia it says the chances of fertility are highest right in the middle of the 6 days and shows I should still be fertile for another 3 days after which I don't understand.
Saying that, Clue could peak the day the egg pops out and Ovia could peak the best day to dtd...
I don't trust apps 100% and I'm using opk sticks also (although my positive LH surge on a stick didn't match either app!!) but I'm trying to combine all methods as I'm getting very little physical hints to my own ovulation, little to no egg white, no pain etc.
I'm hoping I'm definitely ovulating though as my periods are like clockwork, but can't help wondering why after 5 months ttc and trying to correspond with all calculations I'm still not pg. I'm mainly worried because of my age (32) and I've never been pg in any form previously having spent 15 on the pill trying to prevent it lol. Hubby has one child from past gf who is now 13 and had 2 other pregnancies in his youth (which did not produce a baby) so I'm fairly sure he is fertile (although as a chef, he's spent 18 years in hot stressful kitchens and is now 36 so I hope his swimmers are still active)
Doesn't appear I can do much more this month, af due 5th Feb so I'm at the bus stop til then!!
Good luck all xxx

BluePheasant · 23/01/2017 10:22

AF due 3rd Feb for me according to FF app but cycles not known for their regulatory! My OPK did fit in with a shorter cycle this time though so here's hoping!

ttcnovice · 23/01/2017 12:11

Can I ask those of you who use CB dual hormone OPKs - how many days of "high" fertility (flashing smiley) do you usually get before the "peak" (non-flashing smiley) appears? I'm on CD11 today and day 2 of "high" readings so just wondering when to expect the peak.

MissMagpie · 23/01/2017 14:31

I have only used the CB dual hormone OPKs for two months ttcnovice.

The first month I got a low, left it a day, then the next day got peak! Took me by surprise!

This month I had two highs then a peak. Which was four or five days earlier than the previous month. So another surprise!

ttcnovice · 23/01/2017 15:44

Thanks Magpie this is my first month of using them, so just trying to get used to how often to test (would be kicking myself if I missed the peak). I guess I'll wait and see what it says tomorrow morning, but it seems really early in my cycle to be ovulating yet based on previous months I've had O confirmation, so I'm expecting another few days of high readings first.

MotherofUnicorns · 23/01/2017 16:02

Hi everyone, still waiting to flaming well ovulate here. Cd14 and not a sniff on an opk. Dh is poised and ready!!

BluePheasant · 23/01/2017 16:10

Hi ttcnovice this was my first go at using CB dual hormone too. I started on CD15, then got high reading for CD16 & 17 and got my peak on CD 18, first thing in the morning. So only two days of high fertility reading. But I have read it can vary a lot especially for longer cycles.

Best to try and dtd just before you get a peak as well so that they are in there ready and waiting!

ttcnovice · 23/01/2017 16:22

Thanks Blue - good to get different perspectives on this. My cycle lengths are pretty regular at 28 days, so I'm following the "norm" having high readings yesterday and today, which should mean a peak tomorrow (CD13), but the cycle before last I didn't ovulate until CD16 so it seems too early (couldn't pin point ovulation at all last month using IC OPKs). DTD yesterday and today as I'm off work and DH is on nights this week (pounced on him as soon as he woke up bless him Grin) so fx we're covering all bases!

Mummymathsteacher · 23/01/2017 17:59

Finally got round to joining the bus.

First official month of ttc#2 after coming off the pill mid December.

I'm CD16, but no idea how long my cycles are as haven't had a "proper" AF since well before DS.

Hoping I've ovulated already as DH is on nights for the next week and we barely cross paths!

Mummymathsteacher · 23/01/2017 18:02

doctor are you sure you're not me? Teaching and shift work don't mix well with TTC!

EMHW123 · 23/01/2017 18:20

Hello,

I've been creeping for the last month and would be keen to join in before I go insane.

Ttc#1
Age 33
Cycle 4

Going to try and use the cb opk this month- previously tried the cheap ones but like mistybxx I confused the lines Confused

Was utterly convinced I was pregnant last cycle ...."implantation bleed" sore boobs, nausea going off food I love and smells really going for me too only for my period to arrive spot on at day 30! #facepalm my OH thinks I'm nuts, I think I'm nuts, then I read your posts and thank god you guys know the feeling.

Anyway I thought I would join and end the creeping! Smile

MistyBxx · 23/01/2017 18:49

Hi Em123, you sound similar to me, I'm 32 ttc#1 cycle 5!
Least you did some creeping. I joined last night and have been spamming ever since lol I'm MN addicted already lol.
I'd be interested to try the CB opk coz as you said, the lines are confusing on the little sticks! Or maybe I should have just read the instructions more Blush
When roughly are you due ovulate? I thought i was due Saturday according to one app, then yesterday according to another app but my stick had 2 very dark lines last Thursday! I dtd wed night and yest morning and I'm on the 2ww now either way!

EMHW123 · 23/01/2017 18:56

Well I again did the same as you! Downloaded clue app went on that..... but it's out compared to the other 2 apps I have since downloaded 😂😭

Are you telling your other halves when you are ovulating? I think I'm due around the 4th but my sister and her bf are staying with us that weekend! 🙈

Not sure if I should say to my OH I think it'll make him feel too much pressure! Poor guy bought me flowers as I was so convinced I was pg and when Aunt Flo came we were both surprised I wasn't! Argh 🙈
