Thread 23. TTC #1 - New Year, New Opportunities. Let's keep those BFPs rolling in!

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

Happy New Year! It's 2017 and it's OUR year Star

We've been going a while now so the novelty has somewhat worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We've ditched the Gregorian calendar in favour of the TTC Cycle Day calendar, and we don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

We have a new Grad's Thread. We recently lost a whole load of ttc veterans to the good side and we're absolutely desperate to join in the fun! May 2017 lead us all to upduffed heaven and the Grad's thread, amen.

We don't have rules as such but expect to be talked down from the ledge with kind but firm words if you get too hysterical. But most importantly, don't convince yourself that you're pregnant in the tww. That is paramount!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

Kwick - yes please! I'm a stick Sad I'd like some curves. OH has already informed me that when I'm pregnant I'll look like one of those snakes that had swallowed a deer...........
Also, stop reading things about MCs, you'll be fine, you're healthy and ready for this. You got shares in pineapple and milk and the sock industry is thriving because of you, all of that will not be for nothing!!

I just checked my notes from consultation and you're right sk1pper - HSG has to be done on days 5-10 so I don't know where I got first 5 days from. I ov'd on day 11 this cycle so want to do it on day 5 if possible and AF usually over on day 2 so hopefully enough time for clearing out whatever needs to be cleared out. I'll get an appt for the 19th or 20th Jan if AF is on time.

Just got a negative OPK, so looks like I'm not revving up twice this month - yay! Will carry on testing for rest of week though just in case.

X-post! Thanks for the info sk1pper!

Londonjam · 03/01/2017 19:24

skipper we are in the midst of buying our first property so we need every penny we've got at the moment. I think we might have to wait.

winging my GP did day 2-5 bloods and 21 day bloods twice (I had slightly high prolactin), sent for an internal scan and ordered two SA for DH (he has low morphology)

kwick I like those odds :)

kwick · 03/01/2017 19:47

Fanks for PMA ladies 😍

I had to wait for cycle after hycosy to try again but that may be due to my "DTD" methods Hmm

Think I will have an early night - it will be a shocker to have to get up at 6.45 tomorrow.... at least I feel like I have made some headway with home improvements although still have some pretty major jobs to do:

  • tax return
  • meter readings
  • go through over 1400 personal emails...
WingingIt83 · 03/01/2017 19:58

jem I'm cycle 11. Awaiting cd21 blood results as Xmas delayed them a bit. I guess I'll make an appointment and see if a different doctor appears more proactive (first one said two years hence why getting twitchy about deciding to go private! )

Londonjam · 03/01/2017 20:44

Two years for what - to refer you?! That's not right. I would definitely see someone else.

I'm trying to think of ways to soften the blow this month. So far I've got:

  • September we have three weddings so having a baby would be tricky
  • My grandma has just died and everyone is grieving
  • We have our hospital appointment booked in at least
  • Its cycle 13 so would be unlucky?
  • I've been drinking over Xmas and New Year

That's about it.

Supper16 · 03/01/2017 20:51

Hi folks,

CD7 here but as it's first cycle post pill I'm mainly just hoping it'll be a normal length.

I have a question about folic acid. Do you need to get it prescribed by a Doc or can you just buy it from Boots/online? What doasge?

I don't think a Doc can tell me anything about ttc that you ladies haven't already, and I am healthy weight, non-smoker, moderate drinker, with no health issues. I'd rather not have to go to Doc just to get folic acid prescribed if I can buy it myself. Though I am seeing nurse for a smear test in a few weeks time.

Thanks!

Pyjamas81 · 03/01/2017 20:55

DH and I have decided to have Fuck It Days each month we get a BFN or AF arrives where we do something that we/I wouldn't be able to do if I was pregnant or if we had a baby.

This month we've booked a day of skiing and snowboarding lessons followed by a boozy dinner, and we're also going for a countryside hike followed by a visit to a pub we've wanted to go to for ages. For February, we've got tickets to the gin festival in London with friends - all can be cancelled if necessary!

OrangeCloud18 · 03/01/2017 21:01

Supper You can get folic acid in Sainsbury's, Tesco, Boots, etc. You do not need a prescription for it. You need 400 microgram per day from when you start TTC to 12 weeks pregnant, I think.

AFireInside · 03/01/2017 21:24

That is a great idea Pyjamas. DH and I were discussing the same ideas but ours were not half as exciting!
Supper as Orange said above, you can just get folic acid from most supermarkets/ Boots. I think mine are from Boots with added Vitamin D.

Kathrino · 03/01/2017 21:25

I have a similar list Jam. So far I've got:

  • the way my annual leave works means that I would probably miss out on some holiday with a Sept baby
  • it would be pretty miserable to be super pregnant in July/Aug
  • PIL want to take us to Rome in Sept for SIL's 30th

The drinking one also applies here.

Supper, unless you need a super strong dose, you can just buy it in Boots. It's only about £1 for 90 odd.

Pyjamas, I love that idea! DH is supposed to be working this weekend but I might convince him that we should have a Fuck It Night. We have a bottle of fancy champagne that we didn't open on NYE so this may be the perfect opportunity.

Supper16 · 03/01/2017 21:27

Afire and Orange thanks so much I will pop on down to the supermarket and get some tomorrow!

MissyJones83 · 03/01/2017 21:34

pyjamas love that idea ❤️

supper folic acid you can get loads of places supermarket, chemist, health store and no need for prescription. Get mine from Waitrose as I'm lazy and it's down the end of street! Avocado and green veges are also full of folic acid and things like lentils...

Supper16 · 03/01/2017 21:43

Missy and Kathrino thank you - funny how you never notice these things till you actually need them, could have sworn I'd never seen folic acid in the supermarkets before.....Smile I plan to go and get some tomorrow

Pyjamas81 · 03/01/2017 21:47

Ha ha - obviously want a bfp more but am really looking forward to our Fuck It Days! I got the idea from someone else on one of these boards who I think has now got her bfp along with a lot of great memories from the activities she planned with her DH.

Sk1pper - I was just going through my post a saw that the clinic has sent me some info on HSGs as well! Along with my antibiotics prescription Smile Have attached a pic of the info for you Smile

Supper - I get my folic acid from the pre-conception multivitamin I take (pregnacare). You can get it in Boots, Superdrug, Holland and Barrett etc. I also take ubiquinol (a form of CoQ10) as recommended by consultant.

sk1pper · 03/01/2017 22:06

Thanks Pyjamas! This is why I can't live without MN at the moment, comforting to see others having the same tests and procedures.

WingingIt83 · 03/01/2017 22:08

jam yes 2 years before they persued other investigations! I've checked NICE and that says 1 year so she was clearly rather out of date. I'll insist and switch on last week's waterworks if that doesn't work!

WingingIt83 · 03/01/2017 22:10

Love the idea of fuck it days!

Londonjam · 03/01/2017 22:25

I 💙 you guys

Fuck it days are a GREAT IDEA

Being heavily pregnant in July August too kathrino hadn't thought of that

What the ubiquinol for , out of interest pyjamas?

FXSkip · 03/01/2017 22:37

kwick I am collecting data on the hycosy/hat and don't have enough empirical evidence to present a formal statistical analysis. I can only apologise for the delay.
In the interim you may find the following information interesting:

Women having OSCM tubal flushing had a higher rate of pregnancy and live birth than women who had no intervention. The evidence suggests that for subfertile women the chance of an ongoing pregnancy will be increased from 17% without intervention to between 29% and 55%

Also, nothing anyone says or does and no number of statistics is going to help ease your mind re mc. I know because I am going through the same thing. The best I can offer you is a sort of NLP technique where when a negative thought pops into your head (for example: what if I'm not actually pregnant anymore and my body hasn't realised it yet') you tell yourself, firmly, 'I am pregnant for now, and I'll know for sure in x days' and then move on and think about something - anything - else. Eventually the negative thoughts WILL fade, and you'll have made some progress in controlling the mad thoughts which will help with an mc, a continued pregnancy and the child-rearing that follows. Clearly I am still working on this myself and am no expert, let me know if you have any other tips!!

Flashinthepan · 03/01/2017 22:46

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies. Thanks for adding me to the list jam. I remember you too, was your name something else with jam in? Technically I am in the 2ww but as we decided to start trying after I ovd I have no test date til next cycle. However my boobs have been hurting for the last week so they are already playing mind games!

Pyjamas81 · 03/01/2017 22:59

I'm the same sk1pper - it's comforting to have the support here of others going through the same thing.

London - the ubiquinol is to improve and preserve egg quality and was recommended to me as I am mid-30s and low AMH for my age indicates diminishing egg reserve. I'm taking 300mg a day (just started a couple of weeks ago).

Great info fx!

I hope we all get bfps, but if not, here's to some pretty damn fun Fuck It Days in the meantime!

Poochymama83 · 03/01/2017 23:27

First post although been looking at mumsnet for tips for a little while now. Hi to all- Can I join late?

1st time TTC
Cycle 8
CD31 currently late for period

Usual cycles between 25-28, latest 30 days.
Can currently be found in the limbo joy of "don't think about it" "I'm not pregnant" "why hasn't my period come yet!" "I've already had a negative test so don't test again".

Never been at this point before but not enjoying it so far!! My body playing tricks on me as a NY joke to make the first week back at work all the more fun. Wink
