Getting ready for baby challenge

Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

confused Games night is this eve, I'm the oldest of 6 so along with all the otherhalfs we're quite a crowd! One of my sisters will be absent because she's a midwife and will be busy delivering Christmas babies!

I wanted to start trying in Jan but going to zika infested Thailand so will have to play it by ear! Best case March/worst case Aug!

Wiggleyfingers · 24/12/2016 11:19

confused I am 26 and my DP is 29, I know we are ready I just stress about how much it's going to cost. I know there is no right time to have a baby but I would really like to have some savings behind us so that we can afford all the lovely things I have been window shopping! Baby stuff is so expensive! And with a wedding to pay for very soon we are going to struggle to achieve both. Is anyone else saving for a baby? Or are you just going to go with it? Maybe I'm being a bit of a control freak, it wouldn't be the first time! Xmas Blush

HbH04 · 24/12/2016 12:08

I'm definitely concerned money wise and will try & save as much as possible... I'm self employed so very minor maternity pay compared to regular earningsShock

orangefolly · 24/12/2016 12:12

Ahh - I'm loving this thread - so nice to hear from other people having the same broody thoughts and thinking ahead to next Chistmas bumps / babies. Theres - thanks for starting it, and welcome back to the UK! As you can see we have put on our finest grey skies for you.

wiggley I'm trying the pregnacare pre-conception vitamins. I do wonder if I already have enough of some of those vitamins in my diet already though - maybe just folic acid would be better. We also stressed a lot about cost, and I waited until my job had better maternity pay. TBH I fret that we waited to long as there is never a perfect time.

confused My DH is a worrier and definitely goes back and forth a bit - think it's natural to scare yourselves a bit when you think how much life is going to change!

Happy Christmas Eve all

EvieSparkles0x · 24/12/2016 12:12

Thanks confused, I'm really looking forward to her seeing it she loves to play under the coffee table so reckon she will love it Halo

HbH wow that is a big family! Xmas Grin we are going round to my mums this afternoon and I thought we'd be a squeeze with 7 adults and 4 kids!

Can't my period is 6 days late, the month DP decides he wants to start trying :( Always had fantastic clockwork cycles and don't really see how I could be pregnant with a BFN, as while we've dtd plenty we only slipped up contraception wise around the time I should have Ov'd, and surely we would have a bfp by now if it had happened then?!

Sorry for rambling just a little confused and annoyed, especially as it's party season and want to know unequivocally if I can indulge with some brie and Sauvignon Blanc or not Xmas Confused

EvieSparkles0x · 24/12/2016 12:14

Oh and yeah Merry Christmas Eve! He must think I'm pregnant as he's spoiling me, running roundwith toddler getting everything clean tidy and festive while I lie in bed watching Disney movies and google about pregnancy symptoms and late periods Xmas Grin

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/12/2016 13:31

Hi guys can I join? I already have an older DD (11), but been with DH 6yrs, & we are finally ready to try for one of our own.

I want to try and conceive in April/may 2017 but been on the pill forever so plan to come off it as soon as Christmas boozing is done to get cycles regular and just start actively trying in March I think.

I'm reasonably fit and active but now at 30 I'm finding I need to be so consistent with it and careful with food or the weight piles on so easily!

You reminded me about vitamins.. need to get some

wapphighwood · 24/12/2016 15:30

Hi ladies, joining in as planning on ttc #2 next year and want to get it good shape, cut down caffeine and improve flexibility/mobility in the hope of an easier birth! Going to wait until after two close friends weddings in spring, so probably May time. Already taking folic acid and doing some swimming

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 24/12/2016 21:49

Hi wapp and squirrel - great to have a few more ladies in the group. Happy Christmas Eve everyone! Hope all going well. My inlaws are being freakishly well behaved this year and we are actually having a laugh! Maybe I'm still jet lagged!

Someone mentioned twins earlier - my DH is a twin. Lots of twins in his family. My dads sister was a twin also (but twin sadly stillborn) so we know we have an increased chance of twins. Not sure how I'd feel if we had two on the way instead of one!! We were looking at opks today - god this baby making lark is expensive. Think will just aim to DTD every other day rather than tests. Not sure. I don't want to become more obsessed!

Happy Christmas to you all for tomorrow! Let's hope next Christmas we're all celebrating our new baby's first Christmas!! Xx

Thanks.. think I am already a bit obsessed as I went and bought a clear blue fertility monitor- oops! But due to work I'm really hoping to time conception accurately...

confusedat23 · 25/12/2016 06:24

First day off pill tomorrow. V excited. How is everyone doing?

HbH04 · 26/12/2016 20:36

Hey grumpy very exciting indeed!

I came off 4 weeks ago and got my first proper AF (in many many years) yesterday... Pretty chuffed that things seem to be working correctly after so many years on the pill!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 26/12/2016 21:04

Thanks Hb that's reassuring to hear! Hope mine comes back quickly too!

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 26/12/2016 23:21

Hi all. This is great. I feel like I can contribute for the first time! I definitely need to get fit again after Christmas !
I've been hanging around these forums a bit trying to suss out a few things in my head with regards to having a baby. Until recently I was undecided but I'm just so excited with the thought of having a baby that I must feel ready?!

I'm 32 and thinking about having my first DC. My DH and I got married in August and I'm thinking about starting to ttc in May. My husbands really not keen on the thought of having a baby but he knew I might want one in the next few years so would never say no and we've talked about it recently so he knows it's on the cards; it just makes him super anxious as we have a great life without children and I don't think he wants to jeopardise this.
I don't want to go on at him too much before we even start trying so it's great to read these posts!

AuntieJuice · 26/12/2016 23:51

Feel similar to lots of others here - trying to get my head in the game for healthy happy body before TTC. Actually have to finish my MSc before we get going officially but will try to convince husband that we should start sooner. SIL going for IVF atm and 2016 making me feel very mortal, so sort of reassessed my priorities all of a sudden. That said, would like to ditch two stone before summer!! So in the spirit of all of this, I'd love to join you all on this journey Smile

Sshsecretenclosed · 27/12/2016 08:57

Hi all,
I'm going to come off my pill when I finish this packet, so about two weeks time eeekkk.

I've bought the seven seas trying for a baby and plan to take them as soon as I finish the pill. I too worry about being on the pill for ten years nearly and things not going back to how they were before!! Fingers crossed!!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 27/12/2016 09:05

Hello dinosaur, auntie & secret! Welcome to our secret baby club! Hope you've all had lovely Christmasses. I have not stopped eating. I feel massive. My SIL is about 5 months pregnant and I swear my belly is bigger! I'm going to enjoy the rest of the holidays and then my action plan is:

  1. Dry January (no alcohol)
  2. No Carbs/ Slimming World type diet
  3. 10,000 steps a day minimum
  4. At least 25/30 mins of exercise everyday

I think I'm going to have to start becoming a morning person to fit this all in! Aiming to be ambitious and lose 10 lbs in Jan. What are your plans looking like?

We can do it!!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 27/12/2016 09:22

Hi everyone and those are great goals tea

Mine are:
Dry January
Eat more green veg or at least fruit (I actually love both - am just lazy / forget.. especially in winter)
Give up bad carbs (I have a croissant habit)
Get folic acid vitamins and take them on top of my daily vitamin D
Track my cycle - downloaded Ovia

Wiggleyfingers · 27/12/2016 09:37

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I'm not sure there has been a moment where I'm not eating or drinking except for sleep so I'm more ready than ever for the health challenge!
On a more irritating note, my Christmas Day expected AF has yet to make an appearance. There's no chance of being upduffed as we're been using protection so just my cycle going wrong. Do you think it's because I've been focussing on it more this month? Is that even possible?! It's been so regular for the last 3 months Hmm

confusedat23 · 27/12/2016 10:29

Hey Ladies!! I hope everyone had a great Christmas Xmas Grin hello to all the newbies too

So an update from me... my AF did arrive for 1.5 days!! deffo not upduffed after 2 tests have been BFN so either the spotting i had before official AF should be CD1 or im completely confused. DH got so drunk he spilled the TTC news to the whole of both of our families... in some ways it was nice but now the negative comments will come (this happened with our wedding also). But i think we will probably make a start trying before June now but i really dont want a Christmas baby Blush

HB do you know if there is a blood test they can do to see if your DP has contracted Zika? It may help with the timing. Also DH is very concerned about money but my mat package isn't awful and we are going to use our savings each month to cover the downfall in my wages.

wiggley i can imagine trying to save for both will be really hard! Although my advise would be to ask for money from all your guests... we did that and didn't even give a gift list. We actually told everyone we were too strapped for a honeymoon and thats why we wanted money to book one (which was 100% true) but it was nice because people knew they were contrabuting something better than a toaster! Lol so basically get a baby fund from your wedding guests. Also im thinking Christmas has mucked up all of us complaining of weird cycles!

Orange thats what I expected from DH but we have had our little nephew 2yo with us all Christmas and DH was so excited and broody he can't wait now!

Hows everything going Evie did you get AF or BFP? Also did DD like the TeePee?

Theres my DH was also a twin (sadly stillborn too) but there is no history in my family so I am not sure of our chances. You should get some cheapie OPKs from Amazon like me i'm sure they must be fairly easy to use but also cheap! I think I am going for a similar approach to you with Diet and Exercise but I can't cut out carbs! Infact a PT told me once not to do it so i've stuck with that forever! Lol

grumpy i keep looking at CBFM but i just don't know if i can spare the cash for all the bits! Have you used it yet and do you like it?

TheGrumpySquirrel · 27/12/2016 12:11

Confused the actual main thing is like 30 per cent off on Amazon right now. So the kit of 20 or so sticks and the monitor cost a total of £100. It's being delivered today! Woop!

I'm very keen to conceive in May as I'd like (a Feb baby) the spring & summer off work - I'll only take six months and my DH will take the second six months under SPL.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 27/12/2016 12:12

Posted too soon - that's why the monitor is worthwhile for me as I'm really hoping to time it accurately

Sshsecretenclosed · 27/12/2016 13:54

I was thinking of making a separate thread but thought might be worth asking here first - would it matter if I just stopped my pill now?! 8 days into my last pack?! I don't fancy waiting until the end and midway through jan before pill break but can I do that?!?! I just feel like new year, fresh start!!
