Getting ready for baby challenge

Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

You guys are all making me feel guilty for my lack of exercise and chocolate biscuit binge!! Well done!

I've never watched obem... have always been scared it will make me super broody, so don't think now is a great time to start... lol! (Definitely don't need help there)

Spent lunch time today secretly stocking up on vits. Already had folic acid, so just wanted extra supplies, but had to check what is in the conception ones and find individually. Was terrified someone from work would see. (Ironic that it's how I used to feel buying condoms!!)

Oysterbabe · 10/01/2017 22:35

Squirrel that's such a coincidence, DD was born at 35 +5 Smile

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/01/2017 22:43

Oyster are you worried about going to full term this time? I'm scared of the last month as I heard you get huge!! Mind you my midwife reckoned I was more like 37 weeks for some reason (she thought she could tell from bump measurements or something.. )

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/01/2017 22:45

Also they said (at the time) that I'm more likely to have an early 2nd baby and fast labour again but as it was over ten years ago I'm not sure my body remembers! I hope they let me have a home birth but I'm not sure they will if you've had premature babies before? Anyone know?

MrsC2017 · 10/01/2017 22:46

I was early too at 37 but DS was 7lb4oz so well ready!

MrsC2017 · 10/01/2017 22:50

Squirrel and oyster did you guys just go early by yourself or did something happen that you had to be brought in early? I also was fast labour so no pain relief, not a scenario I would like to repeat!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/01/2017 22:54

Spontaneous mrs - I was in shock! 3 hours from waters going to baby

Seven0fNine · 10/01/2017 23:50

Oooh I think I'd like one of those quick births...my sister had an epic two day struggle! I'm secretly looking forward to gas and air, it looks fun...

confused I think (touch wood) the cycles are getting there. Last two have been 41 and 39 days. Starting opks this month to see if anything happening ovulation wise...
Just started the baby fund but hoping I can save a lot more over the next 6 months as I have quite a bit of extra work happening and not drinking will help! Just going to try and put as much of it away as I can!
Don't think I'll go over board with buying equipment and just get things as and when I need them if/when the little one arrives. I'm not sure I'll be able to resist some of the little clothes and things soon tho, they're so cute!!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 11/01/2017 05:32

So I'm in the waiting room. I've had my local anesthetic and I'm just waiting for it to take effect and then the implant is gone! Also doc said we are fine to just crack on with TTC before safari as there are other precautions we can take re malaria so hopefully we don't need to wait until August! She just said if not pregnant while in Kenya that we should skip that month. Will update once the implant has been removed!

buzzmoon · 11/01/2017 05:56

There's that's so exciting! So pleased the doctor said you can crack on! Yay!
Good luck with implant removal, I remember mine was quick and painless so hope yours is too!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 11/01/2017 06:07

Well it's out!!!! Ouch! Was quite sore as it kept slipping so I've been given a few dissolvable stitches as they had to cut a bit deeper! But it's out which is the main thing!

It's not covered by medical insurance as "this country does not support contraception" so it cost me £300 as well!! The joys of being a woman!

Doc said should take up to 8 weeks for cycles to return to normal and then everything should settle down! On the plus side I might lose some weight as no longer being pumped full of progesterone. Grin

I am very worried about the next one coming even earlier. My waters broke during the night, contractions started 12 hours later and she was born 4 hours after that. Afterwards I said to DH "that was easy, I don't know what all the fuss is about" 😂 She was only 4lhs 13 though and had to be in NICU for a while for a few reasons. She's fine now though.

buzzmoon · 11/01/2017 06:41

Ouch There's! On the removal and the cost! Go treat yourself now :) eat ALL the chocolate and drink ALL the tea :)
So excited for you though, but hope you don't have the same bloating as me, I still feel awful this morning!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 11/01/2017 06:45

Oyster yes I'm worried about that too. Im pretty sure my early labour was caused by (my) stress, so will be doing my best to chill out and not have that kind of drama in my life this time (can't really say what happened as it's too outing but family issues).
My DD was just under 6lbs so large for the dates and didn't have to go to NICU thankfully - I'm pretty sure my dates were wrong. Sorry to had to go through that. Fingers crossed we get straightforward deliveries this time!

Tea that's so exciting! Well done, must be nice to have it out! Does progesterone make you gain weight? I never really noticed but maybe it will be easier to lose it now.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 11/01/2017 06:46

Meant to type "sorry you had to go through that" oyster

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 11/01/2017 07:06

Gosh buzz and grumpy! They sound like dramatic births! Hopefully it's all plain sailing for you both this time around.

I mentioned weight gain on implant to doc and she said progesterone makes you retain water easily so you're more likely to bloat and gain easily. So fingers crossed it works well in reverse!

Did you get bloating coming off the implant buzz? When did you remove yours? Googles

Theres woo on all the good news!! So exciting that you will be able to get on with it so much sooner!! :) And huge boo on the cost and all those associated bits!

Fingers crossed for everyone going full term this time!!

Sshsecretenclosed · 11/01/2017 07:20

First cycle off pill and used clear blue dual hormone OPKs - know I should have resisted. Today, it's gone from low fertility to high. Yesterday had a little bit of stretchy discharge. Could it be my body is doing something!!?!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 11/01/2017 07:21

I'm fine with 37 weeks I think lol! Seriously though, will just be glad to have healthy baby. With DD I was so worried for her that I wasn't scared at all of pain or anything for me, but I had a very easy and quick labour anyway (unusual for first babies) - I'm hoping this time is just as fast!

Mummyme87 · 11/01/2017 07:40

I saw further up the thread about someone wanting a homebirth after a previous 35/40. No reason why you couldn't have a booked homebirth, obviously if you went in to labour before 37/40 then HB would be out of the question but if you went to term then it's fine

Heyitsholly · 11/01/2017 07:54

Thegrumpysquirrell i got pg after one period with cerezette after 6 years on it. Hoping for similar this time

TheGrumpySquirrel · 11/01/2017 08:04

Thanks mummy that was me. I didn't mind hospital but feel confident my body knows what to do and would rather stay home - plus there is a real risk of not getting to hospital in time if it's as fast as my first!

Thanks holly fingers crossed I start ovulating soon. 17 days off cerazette now

Mummyme87 · 11/01/2017 08:12

Go for it Grumpy. Homebirth is highly recommended for low risk women and evidence from the birth place study shows it is the safest place to give birth (if it's not your first baby), midwifery led unit came in 2nd and the delivery suite last

confusedat23 · 11/01/2017 08:17

haha Red I just looked at the essentials really... I knew I needed the bottle maker after using it with my nephew and the stereliser is a must! but the nappy disposal system I saw and asked DH about because anything that will get him to help with changing is a benefit in my eyes lol

Holly don't worry I am only getting the bits which are a bargin now... all the other months I am going to keep some money aside so I can go crazy once we actually make the baby lol

Well done JB! you will get back into it in no time! The documentary was amazing and like Mrs says I am really not sure how anyone gets pregnant with those odds!

I am also a massive fan of OBEM and I go through days where I just binge watch it, I end up being so conntected to some of the people on there but it makes me mega broody!

Grumpy if that was EWCM then you will be in the TWW now!

I'm glad your cycles are comign back Seven are you going to use IC OPKs?

Theres That is the best news ever... are you going to be starting right away?

buzzmoon · 11/01/2017 08:47

There's - I came off the implant a few years ago so can't remember the bloating, I think I got a lot of bleeding though, so fingers crossed for you.
I do remember having a huge sense of relief though and realised that I had been a crazy person for 3 years but didn't know what was causing it!

I'm 18 days off cerazette at the mo :)
