Getting ready for baby challenge

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 19/12/2016 10:51

Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

Totally read it as lickmynipple every time!!

confused I'm CD13 & in my very newbie opinion I'm Oving today, temps suggest this, and Ovia (although apparently not always trustworthy) & have very minor cramps! Just as well we're not trying yet cos DH has major manflu!!

Welcome JB I'm also 33, would love to lose a stone (don't we all) & are going to start trying Mar/Apr hopefully!

Redpony1 · 06/01/2017 12:44

Welcome JB1983 Grin

samidolls · 06/01/2017 14:49

Thanks pony

Walking sounds like a good shout, now I just have to motivate myself to actually go out on a night when its cold not put pjs on as soon as I get home on a night!

My stats are:

Location: U.K.
Age: 28
Kids: None
TTC: June
Cycle: Approx 35 days

I think my main nemesis though is bread! I love it but it hates me (or loves my belly/hips so much it never wants to leave). I would love some other suggestions for what I can have at work for packed lunch? I've been on the mugshot diet a few times n while I lose a lot of weight having these for lunch n healthy meals at night I just get so bored!

Also think I am going baby mad, DH and I have been talking about it for a while, but only really pinned down dates over xmas, and now I've gone slightly mental, I'm even googleing car seats in my spare time at work!

Redpony1 · 06/01/2017 15:17

Lunch ideas...
Bulk cook some pasta, then make salads with either tuna, salmon, chicken/other meats to make it a bit different each day? I actually chop up a few days worth of salad too, mix it up and put it in a tuppaware, you can cook chicken for a few days worth of lunches too. If you want dressings, there are some nice low fat ones, or even full fat ones if you don't drown it each time!
Another idea is home made soup?

I've just had a mini melt down... i know absolutely nothing about babies! I have never been involved with any. I have no idea what they need or how to look after a baby!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 06/01/2017 16:44

Aww pony don't panic. I don't think anyone really knows what they're doing the first time. What's got you worrying?

I feel a bit down about having to wait til august. I feel like the whole thing is going to take forever!

Diet still going reasonably well. Every cloud! I made a Chinese fakeaway tonight and it was really good! Would love a glass of wine though but don't want to cave on my dry January at the first weekend!

Oh Red can totally empathise. But you are preparing now and once baby gets here you will dive in and learn what your baby needs. Everyone always says it's instinctive, so I'm hoping a combo of that plus reading and asking for help when needed will work ok!!

Agree with soups for lunch, though I generally don't make my own (probably should!). I like ones with chick peas or lentils as it helps keep me full and not snack in the afternoon.

DancingUnicorn · 06/01/2017 18:20

I also caved and bought a book which I'm now ploughing through at every opportunity... obsessed!

Oysterbabe · 06/01/2017 18:20

My post Christmas weigh in on Tuesday was predictably awful 😣 I have 2st to lose. I did a fast day on Wednesday and low carb the rest of the time and am 4lbs lighter already :) Will relax a little bit over the weekend though.

DancingUnicorn · 06/01/2017 18:33

Well done oyster! :)

TheGrumpySquirrel · 06/01/2017 18:38

I'm having similar worries red although I have a DD already, the struggle every weeknight to get us all fed and the house tidied is difficult enough just the 3 of us. Plus my DD can wash and dress herself! Bit terrified of the chaos that is a small baby. I'm trying to convince DH to be a SAHD when baby arrives... he's a great cook! I've got to reinstate my cleaner but we are renovating at the moment so I didn't see the point.

JB1983 · 06/01/2017 18:45

Well done oyster.
For lunches sami have you tried the John west tuna infusion couscous pots. They are nice, other than that I usually soup or small wrap.
HbH04 wow pretty similar stats there. Fingers crossed for some spring BFPs then!

Oysterbabe · 06/01/2017 18:57

Stats

Location: U.K.
Age: 36
Kids: DD who has just turned 1.
TTC: February (basically as soon as I finish my current pack of pills.
Cycle: 28 days

I'm going to keep trying to lose weight while ttc. I hope I can lose a decent amount, I don't want the midwife to tell me off!

Red don't worry, I had no idea either but read 400 million articles on the Internet while pregnant and bumbled through!

MrsC2017 · 06/01/2017 19:04

Well done oyster!
Red don't worry, the secret is is that nobody has a clue what they are doing, you just muddle along and hope for the best!
Squirrel I am the same, life is settled, all I really have to do is feed DS and bring him places, other than that he's self sufficient, I have clearly just forgotten the chaos and lost my mind to decide I want tp upset the apple cart, but what can u do, once the baby bug gets u rhyme and reason goes out the window!
How many children do u all want or think you would like at this stage ?

Oysterbabe · 06/01/2017 19:12

We'll stop at 2. If the next one is another girl I can imagine DH being tempted for another, as a last shot at a boy, but no, I'm already 36 and we'd need a bigger house!

coragreta · 06/01/2017 19:21

JB I use mfp too. I lost 50lbs tracking before I had DC1
Sami u love bread too but I normally have a salad for lunch. Usually BBQ chicken and sour cream. Or soups. Lots of different flavours if you like variety.
Don't worry red. You'll be great I'm sure.

I'm on track with my diet so that's good. Weigh in tomorrow.
I think joining this thread was a bad idea as I don't want to wait any longer! I'll be mega jealous when all the bfps roll in.

coragreta · 06/01/2017 19:22

I really want 4 kids but I think that's a little unrealistic. Will probably stop at 3. I'd also like a nice mix of boys and girls. Not asking too much am I?

confusedat23 · 06/01/2017 19:26

I think it mostly comes instinctively Red but only when you want it to
Other than that its just reading. But Mrs is right no one has a clue with their first but don't be scared because there is so much support out there!...

Ok well I just want to admit to everyone here i weigh 12stone 4lbs... i am only 5ft6 but I am fortunate enough to wear weight well and so am only a size 10/12 but I just cannot motivate myself so i'm hoping this will help!

DancingUnicorn · 06/01/2017 19:28

I think we'd like 2 or 3. I guess time and situation depending. Ee!!

confusedat23 · 06/01/2017 19:29

Awhh HB I am CD15 but thats close enough to be cycle buddies!!.. is there any chances of a slightly hopeful accidental BFP after tww for you?

HbH04 · 06/01/2017 20:03

Haha! Hopefully not confesed cos we're off to zika infested Thailand next week!! We did DTD on NYE without protection (usually use condoms) but I knew I was way off fertile week so hopefully my cycle is doing what I think it is!!

The August thing is rubbish theres when you want to get going (that's my worst case scenario too) but there are some positives...
-Think how skinny you'll be then
-Summer is a great time to enjoy all the things you and your DH love doing that you couldn't do with a baby!

  • If You conceived in Aug you have a May baby which IMO is the absolute perfect time to have a baby!
Wiggleyfingers · 06/01/2017 21:15

Confused I am finding it so hard to find motivation! But even when I slip up I'm going to try and get back that enthusiasm to start over and not let it ruin my day!

Coragreta I would also love 4 but I'm not sure how we'd managed that financially! I would love one of both but I have lots of girl nieces so I am also hoping for a girl first! Would be over the moon by either though.

I think there needs to be some self-help book for 'How not to be crazy while your wait to ttc' A friend has just given birth to a gorgeous baby and I've had to take one of my names off my baby name list now. I was shocked at my reaction, for once jealousy was the more powerful emotion over happiness. Does that make me an awful person?! It's so hard and now I feel really guilty. I can't even blame it on PMS because I'm heading towards my fertile week SadAnyone got any coping strategies?!

DancingUnicorn · 06/01/2017 21:22

Wiggly of course jealousy doesn't make you an awful person! I'm sure you are happy for your friend, they're not mutually exclusive feelings. And you're definitely not the only one. Especially since ttc + pregnancy takes time before you will get your time. It's definitely hard.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 06/01/2017 22:10

Yep it's definitely hard waiting!! I'm trying to think of how glad I'll be to get the spring & summer off work and have plenty of time to get my junior at work up to the level where he can cover me before going off. If I'm pregnant now it's a little tricky timing with a plane journey late August and my junior isn't ready. Still bloated with no sign of AF though!

I would love two close in age (I've already got DD age 11) but realistically with our lifestyles working and living in London it just isn't practical in terms of space or money so I think DH and I will just have one.

confusedat23 · 06/01/2017 22:31

Oh yeah of course HB do you know what the likelyhood of being bitten in Thailand is? In Florida they said it was infested and i'm normally covered in bites but i didn't get bitten even once!

I love the positivity Wiggley i just beat myself up about it if I fail but after this weekend i'm gonna give it a damn good go! Also about the jealously thing I can really relate! When my nephew was first about I used to dote on him as if he was my own child and he was DH's and my world... until I got broody and then I just felt rage at the fact that he wasnt my child... i found what helped was taking a step back and trying to not ignore him but go back to a normal relationship between adult and child and so 5 months on it still hits me in waves but it isnt that bad!

Grumpy when did you have your Marina taken out? If you ov'd straight away you could be preggo surely? Have you tested?

I've always said 2 and 2 only... but as i am still only 23 and should hopefully be 24 latest when i have our first... i wouldnt put off doing it again in my late 30's once the 2 i plan are older... not that I have thought about it much! Lol

So... we DTD!! Woop lol still pulling out though so now entering the TWW even though not technically trying yet still hopeful! Blush

Redpony1 · 06/01/2017 23:04

Just one planned for me! I want to be able to afford to help with car, uni or house buying, & keep mine & OH's hobbies too! So a selfish reason but i know so many only children who are not a stereo-typical 'only child'.

I guess i had a wobble because i literally have had absolutely nothing to do with them at all...!
