Thread 22. TTC #1 - The one where the BFPs rolled in & long may it continue

Calling all Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, OPK-ers, temp-ers, IUI-ers and anyone else on the TTC Bus.

We are long past cervix prodding (in fact we know where it is at any given time just by closing our eyes) and we have ditched the Gregorian calendar in favour of the TTC Cycle Day calendar. We don't do baby dust, or baby-dancing, we just keep legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate, but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face. You get kwick-cake if you behave, and talked down from the ledge when you need it.

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share....

I too pictured having a bump over Xmas and my birthday. It sucks doesn't it :-(

Can I ask everyone about ov pain? Who gets it who doesn't and when does it occur?

I occasionally get really sharp twinges one side or the other, quite low down and near the front if that makes sense (as opposed to kidney pain which is more like back pain)

However when I notice this it's usually quite early in cycle -e.g today it's happening and its only cd11 and I'm not expecting to ovulate for another week. Is this normal? I don't notice any pains around actual ovulation time

sk1pper · 13/12/2016 14:18

Winging - you should only get ovulation pain around ovulation (it's basically your egg rupturing from the ovary). So either you're ovulating earlier than you think you are or it's something else. (I always used to think ovulation pain was wind before I was TTC.) However, you've described the pain perfectly and you regularly get it at the same time each cycle so certainly seems like ovulation. Are you temping at all? You may want to just try it for one cycle to see if you get a temp rise around CD10-11.

Binkybunny13 · 13/12/2016 14:26

Winging I think I've had ov pain before, but I don't temp so it's all speculation. For me, I get a very short but stabby pain just in and up from my front pubic crest, with a slight ache for a short while before and after. I probably notice about once every couple of months but not sure how normal I am!

Hep I'm hoping you're not actually out and that AF keeps away

Mouse I love love love that PMA. That's what we need ladies- 2017 is the year, We will get there with or without help, progress will come!

Alexia you are allowed to feel sad and frustrated, it's totally shit. BUT there is an awful lot of negative language about yourself in your posts ATM- you need to be kind to yourself. You are so lovely to everyone else and so supportive, but you're not to yourself- you deserve kindness Flowers I think you should spend some time spoiling yourself later with a nice bath/ book/ cake/ internet shop or whatever floats your boat, and remember it's no ones fault, it just hasn't happened YET. I wish I could give you a big hug (I know, very un-mumsnetty)

Fxskip with my long cycles last couple of months I will need a ticket for 2017 Shock 4th Jan please (I'm hoping for some BFPs from you guys to distract me when I get the post festive blues!

Kwick I've been trying the blue milk- Can I just ask, when is the pineapple supposed to be helpful?! I've bought one on a whim but can't remember when in the cycle it's supposed to be magic! Wink

LSFX all!

WingingIt83 · 13/12/2016 14:56

sk1p binky yes I've temped before and when i have they back up the opks in terms of ovulating around cd17/cd18

But it does seem quite specific targeted pain today rather than just wind. I started temping again this morning so I'll see what this week's chart shows.

Nicky883 · 13/12/2016 15:17

Alexia sorry you are feeling like this i feel the same way but havent dares to tell dh that he would be very mad at me :) just out of curiosity given your short luteal phase and chemical have you tested your TSH levels for thyroid function ?

harrietm87 · 13/12/2016 15:46

fxskip put me down for 5 Jan. Roll on 2017!!!!

Kathrino · 13/12/2016 16:26

So sorry for all those with BFNs and AF. I think this time of year brings it home so much. I was so sure that we'd have a little baby at home this Christmas but instead it's just deja vu. I keep tying to remind myself that this last year hasn't been a waste of time but it does sometimes feel like that.

Winging, I generally get an hour or two of pain when I'm actually ovulating (anything from CD13 to CD20 depending on the cycle). It's not really pain so much as just a weird feeling - like sk1pper, I always thought it was something else until I started tracking my cycles.

My next testing date is 7 Jan. That seems like a ridiculously long time to wait!

kwick · 13/12/2016 16:29

mouse I am awarding you kwick Cake - amazeballs PMA!!!

More kwick Cake for you fxskip keeping hydrated is soooooo important and can really impact the follicle growth (hence the milk binge - hydration plus a complete protein).

Hep I completely agree with your logic... although feel it will be sooner!

Maybe put up some tinsel Alexia? Xmas Grin

sk1pper · 13/12/2016 16:45

Tinsel isn't good enough. It's got to be the whole shebang. I am very strict on this matter, no one on this thread is having a miserable Christmas because of misbehaving ovaries and wombles.

I ate 3 candy canes from my tree last night and my OH nearly, nearly guilt tripped me by saying "I thought you were cutting out sugar". They are strawberry flavour so have been logged in Ovia as one of my five a day.

Kathrino · 13/12/2016 16:49

Ooh I want a strawberry candy cane!!

Amz26 · 13/12/2016 16:51

Alexia that's very sweet of your OH!
Mouse seems like you've had a tough time, I'm sorry to hear about your friend that's awful. I'm glad you got a positive OPK today X

AlexiaB · 13/12/2016 17:52

Mouse that's epic PMA! Thank you lovely. I totally get where you're coming from with regards to wanting a baby for so long (not as long as you!) but things getting in the way. I've been married since I was 20 and have always wanted to be a young mum (I'm 26 in less than 2 months now!). We couldn't ttc at the beginning because we just weren't 'ready' in most people's eyes but I regret not starting at 22/23. I did start just after my 24th birthday though and expected to have a baby by nowSad My best friend shares the exact same birthday as me and will have an 8 year old next year. Crazy! I wasn't ready when she was but I didn't expect her boy to be 8+ by the time I (if ever) pop one out. I'm not comparing myself to others but it's hard not to have hopes and dreams for the future, and then feel awful when they don't materialise. I hope you will have your baby or bump by next Xmas! I hope we all will! I'm also very sorry to hear about your friend Flowers That's very sad. I will keep that in mind and try to enjoy Christmas a bit more since I know there's a lot worse going on in the world. I have bought and neatly wrapped all the presents. Does that count? Grin

Wing I get quite a few twinges here and there before ovulation (and after) but my worst O pain matches up with my opks. If I didn't temp, opk or note it in my apps I'd probably miss it. To me it feels like a burning sensation near my hip bones.

Point taken binky. Thank you, you're so nice! I will try to be kinder to myself, too. I think the hormones made me hate myself for a while last night/today but I'm thinking more clearly now.

Nicky I have had it checked this year but could probably do with having it rechecked. Will probably book an appointment. Thanks Flowers

Skipper don't let him guilt trip you! It's Christmas Xmas Wink I lol'ed at you marking it as one of your five a day! Now I really want a candy cane!

Thanks for all the Flowers You guys are the best. Normal Alexia is back Xmas Grin

Presents do count Alexia but get that tree up pronto Me and Sk1pper are watching!!

I don't often compare myself with others. It's too painful. I slip up now and again like the other day when I noticed several ladies who started TTC at the same time as me got their BFP. But I know my time will come!! I've been patient enough.

We've been married 8 yrs, had some amazing holidays together, bought a house, had lots of ups and unfortunately lots of downs. When my friend passed she left behind a broken husband and a 2 yr old. It devastated us, but put things into perspective. I knew I needed to think differently, take care of myself, stress less, relax more. Take up more hobbies, not worry so much about the little things, stop telling DH to do things. You know the weird stuff.

TTC for me isn't just about the DTD, it's been losing 2 stone in weight, it's been getting the house ready, it's being mentally prepared. Nobody told me this is such a hard emotional journey. Have sex once, boom pregnant. No??

I'm so glad I have you ladies here to vent to, write long and weird posts to, and generally tell me when I'm going mad. Thank you, really, you have no idea how much this helps. I wish I'd joined years ago. X

Musicgrrl · 13/12/2016 21:36

Alexia nooooooo!!! Sorry for such a late post. You haven't wasted any time and you haven't been 'stupid' to take 50mg of b-vits! I have severe doubts that they actually do anything (although I am willing to give anything a try!) and there isn't even any evidence that a short luteal phase is related to trouble conceiving. I only took them for 9 days before I got this BFP - I seriously don't think that is enough time for them to have done anything and I only have an 8 day LP.

I'm glad DH is being lovely. Remember that he is as lucky to have you as much as you are to have him. He didn't marry you because you are a baby machine (although I think you could be one when you get started Smile)

Also, hoping your advent calendar is at least chocolate...

EJ2009 · 13/12/2016 22:09

Put me down for 23rd testing. I just dont feel like a will be testing though. Ive promised myself from now on no poas before af is due.

Alexia - my tree is up (as im married to a 36 year old child) but i have the same mental battle as you. I thought i would have a big bump by now and ive pictured it so much that a none pregnant christmas has really rocked me.

kwick · 13/12/2016 22:21

Alexia you are juicy and fertile and the fact that you are not yet upduffed is not your fault!

Fxskip repeat after me: "I am in perfect time"

Mouse thanks for the rant - I found it very inspiring Grin

Binky fresh pineapple including core to be consumed from ovulation for next 5 days - bromelain said to aid implantation

miwelaisjacydo · 13/12/2016 22:21

I think I have just discovered that I ovulate late in a cycle as am due on in 10/11 days time. Please reassure me that it's ok to do this? Would love this to be the month but then wouldn't we all.

kwick · 13/12/2016 22:25

sk1pper I think you should have a Bloody Mary - what with the tomato, celery, potato (aka vodka) and lemon that is the other 4 from your 5 a day Xmas Grin

sk1pper · 13/12/2016 22:55

Kwick - what a wonderful idea, I'll be pregnant in no time with all these nutrients I'm scoffing. Roll on Christmas Grin

MouseLove · 14/12/2016 05:30

Soooooo I'm out this cycle. MRI scan came through for NYE!!! I'm getting EWCM but snowy white OPK, it's CD17 today and I just feel silly. PMA. PMA.

I was told I needed to try naproxen for 4-6 weeks last month, didn't because of TTC, now I have a scan, I feel silly that I should have been doing these things this last cycle, waited, been sensible. Ahhh. It hit me when I read the questions. "Is there any chance you could be pregnant?" If you answer yes you can not have the scan.

I hate waiting.

sk1pper · 14/12/2016 07:30

Mouse - NYE will be here before you know it and if you'd passed ovulation, you'd have to wait for the next appointment. At least this way you can get it done and dusted quickly and then get back to TTC.

FXSkip · 14/12/2016 10:32

Fanks for the Cake Kwick and all the PMA. This morning I've convinced myself I'm pregnant twice, and that I'm not three times. Someone give me a grip please? no chance I'm upduffed - we literally did not DTD at all in FW!!

Mouse the OPKS don't work for everyone - go by temp and EWCM and dtd! I have been known to not OV until CD21 previously, and an LP of over 8 is do-able so I would say you're not out.

How are you hanging in there Hep - I've got fx for you....

HepKestrel · 14/12/2016 11:06

thanks fxskip i'm doing fine, no sign of anything. Had one glass of wine at works do last night.

think its just stress messing with my system again, but i am restarting my running after work today.
