Welcome to our third thread on PCOS. What we don't know isn't really worth knowing. We're a friendly bunch of women who have a few things in common. We all have either PCOS or unexplained infertility and we're all on a mission for a BFP!!!!

For new members, and old alike here are the links to our 1st and 2nd threads:

Thanks Fluffy/Elly. Will call my unit asap tomorrow. It's really knocked me for six.

Fluffy Sometimes telling people feels good though. I personally am getting treatment so I'll have no regrets, but we've been ttc for 2 years and stopped using protection 3 so I don't really have much hope left. I told my boss last week & it felt so cathartic.

Elly1685 · 04/12/2016 10:05

Fluffy, you are only 30!!! You've got so much time on your side. maybe daily is right maybe telling people would take the pressure off you and would make you feel better. Xx

Hope the pain has gone this morning daily? .

FluffyEwok · 04/12/2016 10:09

My husband is eight years older though. How are u daily?

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/12/2016 20:37

Went to a baby shower today. Got asked if there'd be the pitter patter of tiny feet any time soon... why do people think it's acceptable to ask?? Ffs.

FluffyEwok · 04/12/2016 20:50

Sorry for being a depressive last night all. Boggle people have got no clue and its shit xx

YouBoggleMyMind · 04/12/2016 21:01

Luckily I'm relatively new in a job so used that as an excuse.

You're allowed to be depressive fluffy, it's hard work and shit.

FluffyEwok · 04/12/2016 21:45

On a plus note someone i know on clomid is pregnant so theres hope x

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/12/2016 09:53

Thoroughly enjoying the hot sweats at night... HmmHmm

FluffyEwok · 05/12/2016 09:59

Yep I'm on day 11 and still getting them !

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/12/2016 10:13

I find it tends to go once I've stopped taking clomid but last night was particularly bad haha

FluffyEwok · 05/12/2016 10:45

I just hope it works for us! Im still saving for ivf though lol

SummerHopin · 05/12/2016 15:54

Hi ladies, sorry I've been away a few days so just catching up.

fluffy - dont be sorry, this is the place to be down. Being 30 is nothing either - I'm 31 and all docs are telling me that its fine to be this age and now thinking about trying. Hope you feel better today :)

So I saw the GP Friday and my FSH / LH test came back in the normal range after my provera period. I've been given Metformin and have been told to see how that goes. But I am not sure if people get pregnant on Metformin alone? Should I be pushing for Clomid as well?

I think I'm a bit behind everyone else in terms of where I am on this so does anyone have any experience of when they were at this stage?

FluffyEwok · 05/12/2016 18:38

Summer have you had your blood glucose done? Do you struggle with your weight? The nhs refused to give me met as im slim but i got itprivately.
I thInk you need clomid too x

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/12/2016 19:50

All depends on your body as to whether metformin does enough on its own. Metformin takes awhile to build up in your system so you may not see anything for 2-3 months

SummerHopin · 05/12/2016 22:13

No ive not had my blood glucose done, and I'm size 12 BMI 25 so not super skinny but not a weight problem.
This is why I feel I might have just been dumped on this for X months before they have to do any further tests.
Am considering the private test route just to maybe get something a bit more tailored to me. The GP didn't even mention Clomid?

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/12/2016 23:03

Clomid wouldn't come from your GP summer. You need to perhaps push for a referral to a Fertilty clinic after a couple of months if you wanted to get on with clomid. Or go private for it but I think you still need a GP referral for that.

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/12/2016 23:07

Also, your GP may not even want to refer you until you've been trying for a year, well that was what it was for me. Maybe February/march time is a good idea to return and get the referral?

SummerHopin · 06/12/2016 10:26

Thanks Boggle, I didnt realise that it didnt come via the GP - hence why she didnt mention it!

Yes my year of trying is up in March - but then so is my 32nd birthday :( Time is just slipping away!

satsooma · 06/12/2016 11:51

Summer if you have PCOS your GP should refer you to a fertility clinic before your year is up. The one year rule only applies to people without conditions like PCOS. You may have to argue with the GP surgery a bit though.

You won't be referred until they have established that metformin does not work though. Did your GP give you time period over which to take it? I was told 6 weeks and when it had not worked, was referred on.

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/12/2016 11:54

Even with PCOS I was told to give it a year. I'd just give the metformin a chance and see how you get on. Good luck and fingers crossed you don't need the clomid!

SummerHopin · 06/12/2016 12:11

I was told to build it up gradulally - 1 a day for a week, then 2, then 3 etc - and if nothing happens by March to go back.....but that would be 3 months.

satsooma When you say 'it had not worked', do you mean getting pregnant or ovulating or getting a period?

The more I think about it the more I'm not sure what I'm even supposed to be looking out for now! other than a BFP obviously!

satsooma · 06/12/2016 12:54

You know 'working' was never really defined. I took it to mean getting a period if I remember right.

A lot of GPs will tell you that you have to wait a year, but they can refer you on if they choose. PCOS is a really good reason to refer early. Especially if you are 30ish. Personally, I think it is worth asking about. Worst they can say is no.

satsooma · 06/12/2016 12:55

In other news, I had what could have been implantation pains yesterday Smile

SummerHopin · 06/12/2016 13:37

Ah ok.

Eeek satsooma how exciting! I'm sorry I've lost track with where you are with your treatment - I know you found out about PCOS recently(ish) - did you do Metformin and are you now on clomid too? What time scales did you have once you got referred?

Keep us posted - have you got a test date planned? x

satsooma · 06/12/2016 16:30

Summer. I had metformin for 6 weeks. Then got referred to a clinic, that was maybe another 6 weeks of waiting. Once I was seen at the clinic I went straight on clomid, which seems to be working great. I am on my second cycle now.

Not gonna test for a while though, because I had an early miscarriage last cycle and I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm thinking I'll test a bit before Christmas.
