Welcome to our third thread on PCOS. What we don't know isn't really worth knowing. We're a friendly bunch of women who have a few things in common. We all have either PCOS or unexplained infertility and we're all on a mission for a BFP!!!!

For new members, and old alike here are the links to our 1st and 2nd threads:

Now without further ado, let's continue on our journey.......

Amy hows you?

ElizabethCatherine · 21/03/2017 21:59

@SummerHopin that's exactly what my hubby says.. he's like why go on holiday with the money when having a child is what we want more then anything. If my dog all of a sudden needed some surgery etc we would drop it in a heart beat to help her. So why not put money towards treatment for a baby right.. and our health as well! I get the worst anxiety and depression from all of this as well so it's actually helping my health as well. Us ladies always put other things in front first my hubs made me look at it that way and it's so true.. just hate spending money on myself lol

ElizabethCatherine · 21/03/2017 22:02

Has anyone ever considered ovarian drilling? I've seen a couple posts on Facebook pcos groups and know a couple people through friends of friends that did it and both got pregnant naturally since having the surgery and didn't need to take all the hormones and drugs that help you ovulate. I guess it helps reduce your cysts so things can sort of level themselves out a bit with hormone levels? I don't know too much about it. I'm going to ask my Gyn on Thursday when I see her for the first time. Maybe get on a waiting list for that it surgery is faster then waiting for rounds of clomid. Hmmm something to think about

YouBoggleMyMind · 22/03/2017 08:03

Elizabeth, I was offered ovarian drilling on the NHS but declined it due to the risks. It can put you into complete ovarian failure in which case, your only option is then donor eggs. It also isn't a guarantee that it'll make you ovulate and the effects are not permanent as pcos cysts grow back. It tends to be given if clomid doesn't work but for me clomid has been working so I didn't see the point in risking it.

FluffyEwok · 22/03/2017 09:15

I wasnt offered ovarian drilling but wouldnt have accepted it due to risks. I suppose its something to carefully consider though if offered

ElizabethCatherine · 22/03/2017 09:43

@Boggle thanks for that! I guess I'll give Clomid a go first and see how I get on. Xx

SLady · 22/03/2017 10:01

Make sure you update us after your appt tomorrow Elizabeth!

How are you Amy?

satsoooma · 22/03/2017 10:13

I have an appointment with the consultant at my fertility clinic tomorrow. I want to talk about what we do next, as I only have one round of clomid left to take.

I am trying to make a list of what to ask, as I always panic and forget on the day. Any suggestions for things to ask about?

SummerHopin · 22/03/2017 11:48

Elizabeth, I havent considered ovarian drilling. Not just because of the risks, but because I didnt think it was really needed unless the cysts were really troublesome plus I thought it came after both a HyCoSy and a lap&dye? I dont know that they would take the risks and go through the full surgery if you had lots of smaller cysts, I thought it was just when they were big and nasty.

You may be interested more in something like the HyCoSY that I had recently which makes sure that your tubes are open. This is much less invasive and can lead to pregnancy shortly after because the procedure literally flushes and opens your tubes! (hopefully I'll be an example of this!! :) )

When I had my HyCoSy I asked if there were any big and nasty looking cysts and she said no. Perhaps if it had been a yes we would have then discussed further treatments like laproscopy to see more or the drilling to remove said cysts etc.

Have you got any specifically big or nasty cysts do you know?

SummerHopin · 22/03/2017 11:50

satsooma I'm doing the same for my NHS appointment this coming Tuesday. My list will be different to yours as you are further ahead than me, but I've basically folded the list and put it in my wallet as I think of questions at the most random times!

Pleased to head so many of us have appointments coming up. Nice to feel that we are getting somewhere Flowers

p.s. OPK much lighter line this morning. Think the surge was either a near miss or it was going back down from the other day. Not too worried - either way its out of my control now!

YouBoggleMyMind · 22/03/2017 12:00

I'm not sure size of cyst which matters for drilling. It's the amount of them that causes issues with hormone imbalance. I just wasn't willing to risk complete loss of ovarian function! Especially when clomid is making me ovulate.

FluffyEwok · 22/03/2017 12:21

Ive got my first midwife appt 6th April ill be 7 weeks 6 days. Getting shooting pains in right side that come and go. Feel ok though.

YouBoggleMyMind · 22/03/2017 12:25

Not too long to wait Fluffy! How exciting! Do you get an early scan?

SummerHopin · 22/03/2017 12:45

Eeek fluffy so exciting. How lovely for you.

Do you mind if I ask your situation i.e. how long you have been trying / when you found PCOS and what treatment you had please? I know the info is probably hiding here someone in all these threads but would you mind reminding us?

NeverGoOutOfStyle · 22/03/2017 12:50

CD42, no period and no BFP, so counting myself out and I'll just wait for AF to start, never had a cycle longer than 45 days that wasn't immediately after miscarriage or when I've had hormones for one reason or another so hopefully it'll arrive soon.

Yay fluffy! How are you feeling?

AmyC86 · 22/03/2017 13:56

Ladies,

CD2 of heavy AF. I could quite happily murder mystery DH, through Pmt. I start clomid tonight. Cycle 5 of 6 2nd go at 150mg

We also need to start thinking about another thread, I seriously didn't think that I'd still be knocking around here on thread 4 of 4 😭 you and me both eh boggle

How are you doing boggle? Xx

I'm seriously considering private after my next clomid, does anyone know if you still need to be in the weight category for private?

OP posts:
YouBoggleMyMind · 22/03/2017 14:19

Nope, some of our previous thread friends have been and gone and had their babies in the time it's taken us to get to thread 4.

I'm ok, cd10, scan on Friday and then we're away for a long weekend. Mental health is down the drain at the minute.

YouBoggleMyMind · 22/03/2017 14:19

Good luck with this next cycle of clomid amy. Hope it works for you xxx

FluffyEwok · 22/03/2017 14:27

Feeling ok
Im not getting an early scan i dont think. The nurse at the ivf clinic said they wouldnt do one as its not an ivf pregnancy. Ive had to tell my manager as she has to risk assess my job

SLady · 22/03/2017 14:30

Hi Amy, wishing you positive vibes for your next cycle of Clomid. Can I ask why you are thinking about going privately next? Have you not had a good nhs experience? pip said the BMI weight was 35 at Nuffield. So looks like its a bit more lenient

ElizabethCatherine · 22/03/2017 16:06

@SummerHopin apparently my ultrasound results just confirmed that there are many cysts all over. The doctor didn't have it to show me it just said there were many.

You guys will never guess what. My private appointment is tomorrow at 1:45pm for £270 and the NHS ended up moving it to 10:15am with the exact same doctor for free, they had a cancellation and knew I was switching over to private and because it was with the same doctor they just gave it to me. The NHS can be nice! So happy that I just saved all that money. Here's to hoping the next step will be as quick as this on the NHS.. ha! Or I'll just use that money towards a private appointment if not.

SLady · 22/03/2017 16:22

Wow what a touch of luck Elizabeth great news! I'm seeing the same consultant as I will be seeing on nhs, here's hoping the same happens to me too! Ha ha

FluffyEwok · 22/03/2017 19:07

Elizabeth thats great good luck x
