Big hugs sammy, hope you and DH can hunker down and have as restful a weekend as possible

I know this is the annoying 'someone I know fromanother forum had....' anecdote, but here it is anyway. I can't remember the exact numbers but she had a much lower fert rate than expected - two fertilised, two day 3 embryos transferred.

First scan showed she was pregnant with triplets

No this isn't the apocryphal tale, this particular woman really does exist. Cycled with Lister.

Both embryos took. One split. Three embryos implanted

One wasn't quite strong enough, but she's now pregnant with twins.

She was - understandably - inconsolable when the fertilisation news came in

But those two day 3-ers were clearly little fighters!

Hi girls, sorry for the late reply. I took a turn for the worse yesterday and ended up at ooh docs. Just felt so sick. She said it was probably the metranitazole (spelling?) suppository that the clinic gave me as that antibiotic makes lots of people sick. She was so understanding as her son and wife are going through IVF at the moment too. As we were leaving she said 'the hardest thing is other people having babies. My daughter in laws sister had leukaemia 5 years ago, was unable to have any eggs frozen as she was too poorly, had all the treatment and even they have a baby now'

Thanks Lucie - I'm pretty sure they won't let us transfer two, esp as its a NHS cycle. Will def ask though esp if they're not the best quality. Well I know we couldn't use our private Frosties for s NHS FET so I'm assuming it'll be a no to converting the cycle too.
I could take Monday off, but then it transfer isn't until Wednesday its a whole extra day for no reason.

Banana - what a story! I'm keeping everything crossed, and trying to be hopeful for those two little ones in the lab. I'm terrified for the call tomorrow!

lucieloos · 03/07/2016 09:36

Oh no Sammy I hope you're feeling a little better soon and it is just the antibiotic. I've had that one before too and you do have to be very careful with it. It's actually the only antibiotic you really can't drink with as will make you really ill. Maybe they will be a bit more flexible with transferring 2 on day 3 as its completely different to a day 5 transfer and much less risk of twins so most places are usually open to it. Keeping everything crossed for you for tomorrow and will keep checking in for updates. I really think you will be ok though.

Thank you Lucie, I don't have any other OHSS symptoms so I'm keeping everything crossed that the doctor is right and the anti sickness injection has got me through the worst of it. I've managed to eat and drink this morning which is an improvement.
Thank you, it means a lot to have you girls rooting for me.

stealthbanana · 03/07/2016 13:30

Just popping on to give some Flowers to sammy and cheer you on! Am hoping you have 2 great day 3ers tomorrow. As lucie says, best to transfer them both - no reason why you should waste that lovely lining.

lucie glad your hols were relaxing and you have a plan

to everyone else

bananafish81 · 03/07/2016 13:46

They can't refuse two day 3-ers surely? Doesn't the eSET guidance focus on blasts? I know it's only guidance and clinics can have their own policy - but if they're going to deviate from what is pretty much the expectation (ie under 35/37 depending on the clinic, that two day 3-ers may be put back, but that either one blast max will be permitted full stop - or that two may be permitted under certain circumstances / requiring a waiver to be signed) they should make that clear up front

No one would reasonably expect that they wouldn't be allowed to transfer two day 3-ers, unless explicitly set out up front

Really hoping you feel better soon lovely. We're all cheering you on! Xxx

loopylou1984 · 03/07/2016 13:56

Thank you both. I'm feeling a million times better today and am now confident that it was the antibiotic making me feel ill.

I feel a bit more positive too, and just hope that we have at least one to put back tomorrow. When they call I am going to mention that we'd like to discuss putting two back. I don't want the embryologist to freeze the other one before we get a chance. Do the even freeze day three-ers or would they need to get to blast before freezing?

Are there any bonuses to putting two back? Other than we'll have twice the chance of one sticking that is.

Brenna24 · 03/07/2016 13:58

Sammy It could well be the metronidazole. It is a horror for making people ill and, as Lucie said, do not touch alcohol on it. It is a sister drug to Antabuse which they use to stop alcoholics from relapsing and drinking and it will make you projectile vomit. Although I can't imagine you are even slightly tempted to drink right now.

bananafish81 · 03/07/2016 14:11

Couple of years old but may be helpful showing single vs double transfer (national average - so stats almost certainly lower than at your clinic) for day 3 transfers vs day 5

loopylou1984 · 03/07/2016 17:41

Nobody even suggested last time that it might be the antibiotic. I think because I was OHSS in other ways they just assumed it was that. No, I most definitely do not want a drink right now, although I do feel fit for transfer now, just hope there is something to transfer!

Thanks for that banana - so we'd increase our odds by around 3% for my age. I'm going to ask (if we have 2) - they can only say no.

lucieloos · 03/07/2016 23:00

Good luck tomorrow Sammy x

Good luck sammy 😊

maplebaby · 04/07/2016 08:46

Good luck sammy for today, have my fingers crossed for you!

loopylou1984 · 04/07/2016 09:07

Thank you everyone. No news yet. I was at work for 5 minutes and my manager sent me home. Should have just called in sick in the first place. Xx

loopylou1984 · 04/07/2016 09:47

They just called, they've both made it. They're seven cells, both good quality although one looks slightly better formed on the edges than the other. She did say that could just be because it was about to divide again.

We're going with transfer of both today. At 1.45.

I'm so relieved. It's like a massive weight has been lifted. Slightly nervous about the prospect of multiples due to being a small person, but what will be will be! 2 babies would be better than none.

bananafish81 · 04/07/2016 10:25

Good luck sammy!

Re multiples it IS possible, of course - but pretty unlikely

My consultant said with my existing health issues that twins were absolutely to be avoided

And he said he'd worked with the HFEA on the eSET guidance

But we agreed that whilst we wouldn't put back two blasts, we definitely would put two day 3-ers

Will be thinking of you! Xx

loopylou1984 · 04/07/2016 10:29

Thanks banana.

I'd love twins, not at all phased by having two babies. Just the health complications of carrying them.

I'm going to walk the dog (slowly as I'm still uncomfortable) and the go and pay in a cheque. Then stick a film on I think, just to pass the time.

star1980 · 04/07/2016 10:36

Great news Sammy. Good luck with transfer this afternoon.

Borisisback · 04/07/2016 10:49

Sammy - that's great news on your little embies.

Sorry to hear that you sufferend with the Metronidozol - I had to take that drug on and off for a year when fighting a tropical disease. The drug felt worse than the disease - grim.

maplebaby · 04/07/2016 11:11

Fab news sammy will be thinking of you this afternoon!

lucieloos · 04/07/2016 11:46

Brilliant news Sammy, great that you are having them both back and will be pupo soon. Good luck x

Went away for the weekend with DH and missed loads. What a rollercoaster Sammy! Hope transfer went well and you feel better.

Brenna24 · 04/07/2016 15:08

Fantastic news Sammy. Everything corssed for you here (except my legs as I am heading back into my fertile window Grin ).

loopylou1984 · 04/07/2016 15:54

Thank you everyone. I'm now PUPO with 2 onboard. 1 was 8 cell and 1 7 cell. You can see DH sperm in the picture trying to get in. So there's some alive still 3 and a bit days after the sample was given.

His morphology was 7%. 7%! That's up from 2% in our lowest result. The only thing that's different is that he's gone on to decaf coffee. So was previously having 3 / 4 cups per day of caffeine loaded, but cut out completely now. It doesn't answer why our fertilisation rate was so low (dodgy eggs?) but that'll be a question for the follow up if we need one.

Chilling on the sofa now :). Xx

stealthbanana · 04/07/2016 16:52

Gratz sammy. PUPO! Keeping everything crossed for you x
