Old thread just about finished. Here is a new one... Fx for lots of well earned BFPs for those ttc over forty. We also welcome stories from those who have successfully had their babies over forty and we love hearing back from our graduates.

Hey ababs no af yet 12/13 dpo and usually here by now but neg on frer today - just HAD to find a pharmacy and feed my poas addiction! Still all crampy though so know it's imminent. I was more embarrassed today by all the supplements (and slightly concerned that they wouldn't believe they weren't illegal substances!)

Rugby01 · 29/03/2016 22:49

Hi Ababs - no you are not insensitive at all!! I didn't mean you guys on here ... As I know you know what it's like. 🙂 Sorry if it came across like that! Dealing with two year olds has always sounded like a massive challenge and if it ever happens to me, I am not sure I'll be so cool as you guys are! Hope you're enjoying the indulgence of Easter eggs this week... And as for the O date, thanks as it made me feel better - it is whatever is normal for your own body I guess. Mine was 20 and that's the norm for me most months. Hope you get geared up for next month's dtd. As you say, all the sticks and supplements really add up and you deserve a bfp next month. If only Easter eggs were a recognised supplement for ttc.

Thanks for your very hard wishing for me, too, Ababs. I will test tomorrow when with my OH. It really helps having this thread and you lovely people to listen in on and hear support from.

Twinkly - completely understand the OH being away thing - I hope you get a window where you get a strong, determined swimmer. Sending you good vibes to reduce the frustration with that.

KK- any news or bfp? Cheering you on over here.

Hula2 · 29/03/2016 23:54

Kkmuppet - hope af stays away but if not best of luck arranging your FET, sounds like a sensible plan and great if you can get it organised for this month. Do you have to take meds or just do it on a natural cycle ? Sorry you (and Rugby) have had to deal with whingers who don t know how lucky they ve had it. Some people just dont have a clue.

Rugby - yay for 14 dpo, fingers crossed the witch stays away for you too.

Ababs - rubbish af got you but welldone on the healthy living. I too seem to ovulate on the day i get a positive surge and thats with twice daily testing (and def within 24 as i cofirmed this before on a scan). Have heard of lots of ladies getting preg on earlier ov so i think (and hope, cos i often ov day 12!) that its ok. Interestingly the two times i ve been preg were late ovs (18/19 for ds).

Twinkly - sorry it was pmt not preg rage and what a pain your dh is away at the critical - so annoying. Re the hycosy it really wasn t bad (smear level of discomfort and a mild cramps) and i went privately in london where you can self refer for just this so i can PM you the details if you want.

Afm cd 12 and just got some ecwm so def later ov for me this month as still neg opk. Trying dtd without a known schedule, working so far......Wink

Hula2 · 30/03/2016 00:03

Sorry missed a page of posts !

Kkmuppet - sorry for the bfn. What a nightmare day but I had to laugh at you worrying about supplements during the customs search, i avoided taking chinese herbs on hols for that same reason !

Abs - i m back on the opks this month (control freak) and its bloody expensive especialy as i find i need to do it tiwce daily and only the digi work for me...silly really as if we just did the FFC they d be no need for any of it (but no way i have the stamina for that !).

Fridgedooropen · 30/03/2016 08:59

Hello all, I was on the thread early on but have been off the radar for a bit. However, I got a very, very faint BFP this morning with my period 1-2 days late. Really pleased but concerned about it sticking now. I had an early m/c in October last year. Any tips on anything I could take at this stage to increase the stickiness? I've seen selenium mentioned upthread.

Btw, all conceptions I've achieved lately seem to have come from having less sex rather than more..DH is less enchanted by this thought, but.. Smile

Kkmuppet · 30/03/2016 09:48

Hey hula I don't know yet re meds or natural. I think as I ovulate every month I could do it natural but need to check with the clinic.

ababsurdum · 30/03/2016 13:52

Many congratulations Fridgedooropen, I hope this bean sticks for you. No tips I'm afraid but will watch with interest.

Rugby you will be well prepared for the terrible twos when you get your baby! Fingers crossed for a bfp today for you.

Hula glad I'm not the only one ov so soon after a positive opk. I hope you get your positive soon, in the meantime you go girl Wink. I don't have the stamina for the FFC either.

Kkmuppet sorry for your bfn. Bloody sucks doesn't it? Hopefully you can get your FET arranged quickly and get off this merry go round permanently.

joeywife · 30/03/2016 17:27

fridgedooropen congratulations on your bfp. My only suggestion would be progesterone pessaries (predisolone). I had these prescribed for me after I had my NK cells test at Coventry. I was told to take them as soon as I got a bfp and continue for the first 12 weeks. It might be worth going to ask your GP for these. They are also prescribed after you have had embryo transfer with IVF. Best of luck and I hope this one sticks.
Sorry to KK, Twinkly and Ababs for af arriving. Another day, another cycle eh?
Best of luck to everyone waiting on testing.
Nothing much to report here. CD10 now. Managed to get a couple of dtds in over the weekend, so just carrying on with that really. Not doing opks, so just trying to take a relaxed approach (ha ha!!!).

ChewyGiraffe · 30/03/2016 19:32

Many congratulations Fridge on your BFP - great news!

On pregnancy supplements - I like Pregnacare Max, 2 tablets daily plus an Omega-3 capsule always made me el like I was at least making a decent effort!

Think it's a good tip from Joey re progesterone pessaries. I took them with DD who was a natural conception. When I got BFP I went to GP and pointed out they were on a previously written, but unused, IVF protocol that I'd been given, so could I please try them - And they agreed.

I don't think Joey meant to say 'Prednisolone' though - they're steroid tablets that are also prescribed by Coventry and other RMC specialists to mitigate NK cells/immune issues. (I'm sure they are steroids as my DP has to take them periodically if he gets a bad allergy flare-up -he's definitely not pg!) The pessaries I've used are Utrogestan and Cyclogest (well one at a time, have been prescribed one or another at different times.)

Lots to catch up on and hopefully back later after toddler bedtime routine. Meanwhile I did just want to say a quick, big thank you to MattsMamma for such an informative and generous post. Lots to think about - and I'm definitely ordering Optibac!

joeywife · 30/03/2016 20:38

Oh yes - thanks chewy I did mean Cyclogest!! So many different drugs during IVF I got the names all mixed up. Definitely don't stick Prednisolone up your bum!!

MattsMamma · 30/03/2016 23:17

Your welcome CHEWY Just to clarify the company is Optibac and they do various different probiotics. I take the ones for every day and they seem to be doing the trick for me. Safe for babies and in pregnancy. Not cheap but well worth it.

Just a note for anyone who does have Hashimotos I've read it is best to avoid vitamin supplements with iodine in. It can aggravate the condition by raising antibodies apparently. So I take Sanatogen Mother To Be plus as they seem to be one of the few without iodine in.

FRIDGE. congratulations on your BFP - progesterone supplements definitely a good idea. Totally understand how you feel about having a sticky bean - wishing you a super sticky one 😊. I had read selenium can help with implantation and fertility generally as can zinc but not sure about actually helping stickiness.

JOEY LOL at sticking prednisolone up your bum 😂😂.

MattsMamma · 30/03/2016 23:24

PS. RUGBY. Re later ovulation. With my DS 2. I got a positive OPK day 17 which was late for me - always previously cd 14 ish for me. I remember wondering if was actually going to even get a positive OPK that month. Only had sex twice that month once on the day of the positive OPK and once the day after and that was our lucky month. So I now ignore anything I read about later ovulation being a negative thing. Ovualtion to me is ovulation - whenever it happens. Good luck xx

Rugby01 · 31/03/2016 09:33

Mattsmamma- thanks! That's reassuring. I think things can be put into medical speak too much and then we feel like we're not normal for no reason at all!

ababsurdum · 31/03/2016 10:41

Rugby have you tested?

MattsMamma · 02/04/2016 12:03

Gone a little quiet on here - hope you lovely ladies are all ok x

I had a particularly bad day yesterday - felt sad and emotional all day and tearful. I wanted a break from ttc I thought this month but when it came to the big O time the decision was out of my hands anyway as DH working away so totally missed it anyway. I just felt so bloody frustrated and that feeling that maybe that was the egg etc etc. can't explain how dreadful I felt - bit better today but not much. I'm usually at my best in every way at this time of the month but anyone would have though it was period time ...... sorry for me me me post ! Just feeling particularly shitty. Hope everyone is ok X

Rugby01 · 02/04/2016 17:29

Mattsmama - hope you are ok. Sounds like a really stressful time for you. And I completely know that feeling when OH is away at crucial time. Sounds like you need him there in more ways than one, actually. It's such an emotionally draining thing all this ttc. I hope you find something to distract you/ cheer you up.

Sorry for my delay - I did actually test positive but I have been too scared to post about it in case I jinx it. Such early days and worried it won't last. And also I keep arguing with OH about other stuff now which is upsetting me as I'm worried about stress affecting things. So that's it really. Not the bundle of joy I thought I would be. 😕

Hula2 · 02/04/2016 18:57

Oh Rugby - whispered congrats on the bfp but totally understand the anxiety it brings. I wondered if that was why you d gone quiet. All you can do is take it one day at a time. Nothing you do is going to negatively affect things (as long as you re not planning a bungy jumping pub crawl! ),and certainly not stress of arguing so try not to worry. I know easier said than done. Keeping everything firmly crossed for you.

Mattsmama - sorry you re feeling so fed up. It is so annoying to miss a month due their work logistics and i can really sympathise on that one. As rugby said hope there s something to distract you (chocolate, wine ...!?). Sending a big cyber hug.

Oh and congrats too fridgedooropen on the bfp. Progesterone sounds like a good plan and certainly won t hurt and i know mr shehats puts all ladies with any prev mc on baby aspirin (75mg) till 12wks even if normal clotting results as its meant to improve placental blood flow.

Rugby01 · 02/04/2016 19:01

Thanks Hula! Reassuring words. How are you?

Hula2 · 02/04/2016 19:27

Good thanks, just got my smiley (day 16) Smile and doing well on the dtd front so far so hoping this and my spring clean does the trick this month!

Wish i could fast forward the next 8wks for you - i know how it feel like time is standing still in those early weeks.

ChewyGiraffe · 02/04/2016 19:38

Rugby - thank you for sharing the news of your BFP, it's truly wonderful news! Great news for you of course, but super good news for the thread too - with you and Fridge posting BFPs lately, it's what we're all aiming for after all!
As Hula said, I can also appreciate that it takes a while for the news to sink in, meanwhile you're left feeling a bit like a fragile piece of glass, but please try to trust that you can't possibly derail this much wanted pregnancy by anything you say, or write on here, or having cross words with your OH. (Although I'd be tempted to use the "I'm pregnant, give me a break" card' and then hoping for 9 months of getting away with being spoilt and shamelessly a bit selfish! Got to look after yourself!) And hopefully we can offer some handholding on here if you need it, to help you through the early days/weeks.

MattsMamma - sorry to hear you've been feeling low and tearful lately. TTC is such a total pain isn't it . I suppose that a positive spin might be that your DH's absence on the crucial days has given you the month's break from TTC that you'd originally planned ...? I've missed more months trying than I care to remember due to terrible Thyroid tests, cysts, anovulation due to both of the foregoing, DH being away, etc, etc - it's been maddening. On the other hand, it might well have been what's kept me trying for this long (not that I would wish ages trying on anyone) as I defy anyone to put in the same amount of 100% effort continuously month after month, with no break, without going stark staring insane. Hopefully you can use these next couple of weeks to be extra good to yourself and be fully revitalised for next cycle!

Still planning to catch up on a big chunk of posts on our lovely thread, but for now, will just say massive good luck to everyone else.

Kkmuppet · 02/04/2016 20:44

I may post twice as I think I lost a post so am rewriting!
rugby that is fantastic news. I know that feeling all too well. But from my perspective now having had multiple losses and got to 35 weeks still without the baby arriving safely I figure it's better to try and enjoy every single second that you are pregnant. It is a beautiful and precious time that you should try and treasure. Easier said than done I know. I'm keeping everything crossed for you. Oh and I know it's a bit early for this but if you are considering testing I know a great clinic.

Kkmuppet · 02/04/2016 20:45

Oops hit post too soon - not getting on well today!!
I meant to add that I hope you are doing better today matts

MattsMamma · 02/04/2016 20:49

RUGBY sending a congratulatory hug to you! Isn't it strange how we are all aiming for that BFP and when it does come it opens up a whole new plethora of emotions and anxieties!! So pleased for you and easier said than done I know - but try and just enjoy the fact that you are officially pregnant 😀. I smiled when I read your news and said out loud "fantastic" Thank you also for your kind words on my last rather self pitying post and thanks HULA and CHEWY. I particularly love your positive spin on things chewy - really does make me feel much better and think yeah actually it's probably good how things have worked out this month. It really does mess with your head after a while and realistically I did need a break from it. Back to it next month with a vengeance! Lots of lovely luck to all of you xx

MattsMamma · 02/04/2016 20:53

Crossed post MUPPET. Thank you - I have a glass of Pinot in my grubby little paw and feel much better - thank you x

Fridgedooropen · 02/04/2016 23:42

Afraid my bfp wasn't meant to be - it was evidently a chemical (as I understand it? I was already late when I tested but only by a couple of days) and I have been bleeding since and subsequent tests have been negative. I'd booked a phone consultation with GP to ask about progesterone but that then became a request for some help hanging onto a pregnancy. She was very good and has referred me to the miscarriage clinic, where I have an appointment later this month now. I'm gutted even though I was half expecting it, but there it is. Best wishes to everyone else Brew Cake
