sammy fx for you xx

lucie in your situation I would go for a FET now. But I don't know how critical/rapid your ovarian drop off is etc. What was the initial rationale behind doing banking and what was your target number of embies (and why)?

Afm, the clinic called with great news. Of the 37 eggs, 33 were mature and of those 31 fertilised. So am really daring to allow myself to believe we might get a nice crop now! So pleased.

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 11:18

Wow that is so amazing stealth!! I could only dream of being in that position!

I'm not sure how quickly reserve drops off. I'm 36 now and will be 37 in the summer. They say it gets harder after 37. We make 1-2 blasts a round now. If we tried again at age 38-39 we probably wouldn't be so lucky. The initial thoughts of banking were so that hopefully we could get one baby now and have enough left over for a sibling later without having to go through more egg collections when I'm older and my eggs are that much older and not as good.

bananafish81 · 10/03/2016 11:22

Amazing news stealth keep chugging all the liquids - you're gonna need a bigger house!!!

lucie I know you mentioned you'd had your blasts biopsied before they were frozen. I know PGS is expensive but if you had the existing ones tested then you'd know how many chromosomally normal ones you had and could potentially decide whether or not to go for any more egg collections. Possibly I guess weighing up the cost of FETs with abnormal embryos - or indeed fresh cycles that you might not even need - vs the cost of testing?

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 11:37

Thanks banana, i only have 2 out of the 4 biopsied and we pretty much have decided we are not going to go ahead with the testing now. I know it sounds silly but for my own sanity I think I need to have the transfers so that I will have felt I've tried if I ever need to move onto donor. I think it would just help things sink in for me more gradually than a quick test that tells me none of them are viable and it's all over there and then. The costs of fets is very cheap over there I think around £200 and I already have enough medication to last me a few fets so the money side of it isn't an issue.

OP posts:
bananafish81 · 10/03/2016 11:40

That makes perfect sense Lucie - esp with FETs being so unbelievably inexpensive. There is no reason you don't have at least one baby in there! Xxx

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 11:42

I hope so banana so it's just deciding whether to do one next month if this cycle fails or do a couple more collections before starting transfers?

OP posts:
stealthbanana · 10/03/2016 12:08

Hmmm that's a tough one. I would be tempted to do one more banking round and then move to a FET. If you could have 5 in the freezer that feels like a good number.

Ofc I hope all of it is unecessary and you are upduffed as we speak!

MPP81 · 10/03/2016 12:12

That's awesome news Stealth! Fabulous! I'm so pleased for you! :)

Lucie, obviously I don't know much about ivf at the moment apart from hours of googling but you said you need to do the FETs for your own sanity, so that's what you should do. I suppose there are a hundred different 'what if' situations, so you can only do what feels right for you at the time. I'm sorry I can't offer more advice than that.

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 12:12

Yes 5 is what I was originally hoping for but I kind of feel like I want to give it a go with one of the blasts now. I am getting impatient although it has been nearly a year now since my first transfer so it's not surprising really. I will have a chat with DH about it tonight. If we do go ahead with the frozen transfer and it doesn't work we would then do another 1-2 collections before anymore transfers to hopefully bump the numbers back up from 3 to 5 frosties.

OP posts:
MPP81 · 10/03/2016 12:14

Ooooh yeah, and what Stealth said! Hopefully you're already halfway to two! :)

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 12:16

Thanks MPP, would be amazing if this go worked but I'm not getting my hopes up and like to have a back up plan in place to soften the blow. Hopefully we will manage to get a couple of eggs tomorrow.

OP posts:
MPP81 · 10/03/2016 12:20

Totally understand the need for a back up plan. I'm going totally insane here without a fully formed one! Obviously, I'm looking forward to our wedding too, but I want formal plans in place! How early can you begin organising wit the clinic in Czech? Can I message them now to arrange for June, or should I wait until closer to the time we actually want to go ahead?

stealthbanana · 10/03/2016 12:24

Lucie if you do get bad news this time would you consider doing a freeze all and then a FET? If you are consistently not implanting decent grade embryos there is obviously something else going on - either chromosomal abnormalities or implantation/uterine issues. If the latter doing a freeze all mihjt get around it?

stealthbanana · 10/03/2016 12:26

Oh sorry just realised you have t been doing fresh transfers! Duh!

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 12:26

MPP, you can definitely message them now and get the ball rolling and that way you will feel like you are doing something. When contacting them have a look on their website at the coordinators and email Eva Kopecna directly. She is pretty good and you don't want to end up with Christina like Boris did as she is hard work and I know of several people complaining about her as she takes so long to respond. Once you've emailed her she will give you a form to fill in with all the test results that they need so you can check you have all those and get it completed and sent back. They will then pass it onto a doctor who will email you to let you know what protocol you will be on and they will arrange for prescriptions to be emailed to you. It won't be any problem waiting until June to get started. Most people begin to arrange things a couple of months before. Good luck.

Stealth wow - that's amazing

Lucie,- I've been really impressed at your logical and organised approach to ivf. You collect data and stats and work towards a goal. It's very impressive. I make emotional decisions so in your shoes Id keep transferring trying to have a baby now. If you change tactic now make sure you are rationally happy with the response so you don't regret letting an emotional moment change your mind.

MPP81 · 10/03/2016 12:32

Thanks Lucie! I'll do that right now. AF is due in a few days, and for various childish and ridiculous reasons, I totally convinced myself this was our month again to be brought back with a crash with my latest BFN. I want to get things moving! DP's latest SA is on Tuesday, and I'm just feeling a bit blah about stuff in general this week. I'm so glad so many of you guys have so much going on. Cheering you on from the sidelines kind of helps, somehow :)

BorisIsBack · 10/03/2016 12:35

Mpp definitely worth getting the ball rolling now with the clinic, June's not far off! X

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 12:42

Thanks Boris, I guess I do try to organise things and give us goals with the long term target in mind. I would love to just transfer them all now and get pregnant ASAP but then I know I would also feel sad if we had one baby now and we weren't able to give him / her a sibling a couple of years down the line because our fertility situation had worsened which is why I'm playing the longer game. I'm not too sure whether it makes much difference if I transfer one now or wait until we have collected a couple more before beginning transfers as like I said if it didn't work this time we would do more collections to top back up. The only difference it would make is if it did work and we then only have 3 frosties rather than maybe 4-5 for a sibling. Anyway sorry to ramble I'm just thinking out loud. How are you getting on with the 2ww lovely?

MPP, sorry for the bfn. Even now after I don't know how many cycles and rounds of IVF I still sometimes get that little glimmer of hope around the time af is due so i know how hard it is. I think you should definitely get all the paper work done so you are set to go and obviously you can still try naturally in the meantime. Good luck with the SA on Tuesday. At least you will have some recent results to put on the form.

OP posts:
MPP81 · 10/03/2016 12:49

Email sent! That was rather exciting! What other tests do they ask for? I've had some blood tests and a pelvic ultrasound and a TVUS, but that's all. Once they got DP'S SA results, there was no more talk of further tests, just 'you need ivf with icsi'.

JustTrixie · 10/03/2016 12:52

That is amazing Stealth, I didn't even think it was possible to get that many. Good luck for your day 3 results. Like Sammy says keep drinking!

Sammy are you PUPO yet? very excited for you and have everything crossed.

Lucie how long would you have to wait before your second NHS go if this cycle doesn't work? (I really hope it does work!) we were very tempted by an FET but thought that since we're at the point where we qualify for NHS IVF and the waiting list was short we should make the most of it. I think it really helps to think out loud on here.

Sorry for the BFN MPP, definitely get the ball rolling.

Welcome Hoo, great advice from all the others. Hopefully you will find that being on here helps. I know TTC can be all consuming but I think it's important to try and take a step back sometimes and do things that take your mind off it. It's great that you have an appointment soon and a possible reason for why it's not happened yet which can be fixed. Also, as frustrating as it is it isn't unusual for it to take over a year to happen.

Not too long for you to go now Boris! How are you feeling?

AF surprised me here this morning. I was all set for a long cycle since I got negative OPKs on CD14, 15 and 16. In hindsight I must have oved on CD 14/15 and missed my surge....only started getting cramping and PMT on Saturday and usually get 7-10 days notice. Oh well, I'm not complaining! Next AF will be starting bc pills Smile

lucieloos · 10/03/2016 13:02

Yay well done MPP. It's only the basic blood tests that they need so FSH and LH and maybe one or two others I can't remember now. Then the sperm analysis and you should be good to go.

Trixie, I imagine the wait for the next NHS round would be around 3 months possibly 4. We won't wait that long without doing anything though so it's either a fet or a mini IVF as you can do mini back to back because it's such a low dose of drugs so I could do the mini and then if my NHS round came up start that the following month. Sorry af got you but at least you are that little bit closer to getting started on your next treatment.

I can't believe how chatty we have been on here lately. We aren't going to have time to get our bfps on this thread if we keep going Grin

loopylou1984 · 10/03/2016 13:11

Yes I am PUPO now, otd is 23.03.16 (although there's no way I'll get to that date without testing).

trixie - glad you've not ended up with a long cycle. One step closer to your baby.

mpp - well done on sending the email! In terms of other tests you'll have your AMH tested to check your ovarian reserve and probably a hycosy/hsg if you haven't already?

lucie - that's a tough call, but I think I'd be tempted to do a FET in your position.

stealth - what a fab fertilisation rate! Brilliant news. Let us know how they get on!

boris - how are you feeling? When is test day for you?

Waves to MPP, banana, and anyone else I may have missed. Xx

loopylou1984 · 10/03/2016 13:13

Hmmm I didn't miss MPP - I think I've gone crazy! Xx

JustTrixie · 10/03/2016 13:20

Congratulations Sammy!

I was thinking the same thing Lucie, we'll be into double figures by the time my cycle comes around - you'll all have your BFPs by then of course Grin
It's a tough call between the FET/Mild IVF, hopefully having mulled it over if you do need to make the decision it will be easier.
