Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Welcome mango and guidinglight...

Radders...I'm finding waiting hard as usually once I make my mind up to do something I crack on with it straight away. I know I'm in a much better position for a healthy pregnancy though once I've taken folic acid for a little time before TTC, have come off my psych meds and have lost weight so I keep telling myself this like a little mantra!

I'm keeping myself busy in the meantime by preparing so that I feel like I'm doing something....getting all my check ups (bloods, smear, dentist), choosing a nursery theme/look, reading my pregnancy book, looking into ante-natal courses as I'm going to try hypnobirthing, etc).

That's why I'm debating whether to wait a little longer than February as only just started folic acid and not started exercise yet as still too poorly.

Then I think some people get pregnant unexpectedly and have perfectly healthy babies and pregnancies so maybe we put too much on this pre conception stuff.

I want to start just in case it takes ages to get pregnant, I don't want to wait longer and find we have problems, I would prefer to know sooner rather Than later. But with that, we could also fall pregnant the first cycle so need to make sure I'm prepared and ready for that

TheresaMarie55 · 11/01/2016 09:22

I didn't take folic acid at all with my two children radders. I will be this time but I had smooth pregnancies and healthy babies x

I'm coping with waiting by organising a wedding, there isn't time for much else! It also helps that DP is away with work at the moment. He asked me this weekend what the plan actually is; when I looked at the dates I realised I'm probably ovulating on my wedding day. On the one hand, that's perfect timing (who wants to be bloated and periody when they're meant to glow and wear white?) but I'd been intending on falling into bed at 3 am and zonking!

During the long wait since we decided in summer, I've lost weight and got fitter, which was definitely good work (am now sat here munching lebkuchen, though). I'm also doing lots of reading about pregnancy. Emily Oster's 'Expecting Better' was brilliant, it made me much more sure of myself going into this.

radders The vast majority of women will have healthy babies without taking supplements for months beforehand or changing their lifestyle. Most of this stuff can only be seen at a population level. Unless your pre-conception stuff is kicking smoking, or getting rid of that pesky alcoholism or heroin habit, you probably can't make much difference. Being fit will probably make pregnancy more pleasant, but like you say, it might take a while to get pregnant at all.

Urgh I had to wait what felt like forever. My dh isn't very good at talking and it took me a year after Ds was born to convince him to consider having a second one day! Then another year went by, and about 6 months ago he said he'd like another BUT he wanted to move house and a few other things. It's so tough to wait it out. I was so often angry because it was MY body and somehow on HIS terms! But, anyway he suggested we just go for it last week and it turns out I am mid-cycle right now (only worked that out when I was writing a shopping list and wondered when AF was due. I don't want it to consume me, I don't want to stress every month during 2ww etc! And I have a lot of good things going on so it wouldn't be the end of the world if it took a while to conceive, but it's hard when you have that absolutely instinctive drive to have a baby, and everyone around you seems to be pregnant or having a newborn!!

jiwgli · 11/01/2016 17:39

And radders, I'd always advocate exercise because I had such a terrible time. If you're fitter, you'd be better at it, but I couldn't walk by the end of my pregnancy and the only thing that has fixed the pain and my pelvis is getting fitter. Which tells me I need to seriously look after my body!!

Pointlessfan · 11/01/2016 19:57

radders even though I was TTC last time it happened very quickly and so was unexpected! I was on my third glass of fizz at a friend's party when I realised I could be pregnant. I didn't know you are meant to take folic acid before conception so didn't until I knew I was pregnant. DD has turned out fine! I'm not overthinking it this time round either but have started folic acid. I'm hiding them when my mum comes round, don't want her getting all excited!

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 08:16

Morning everyone. Weigh day for me tomorrow, I've been really good so hoping for a decent loss. Got quite a lot planned over the rest of January so hoping it goes quite fast. Don't want to wish the time away but can't help feel I'm just waiting for April now x

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 09:24

Room for another one? I have a DS who has just turned 1 and we are thinking of TTC probably around March ish time. We are in the process of moving house so we need to wait until that has happened. We've both started on the vitamins and I'm not on contraception so hopefully we'll be prepared to start when the time comes. I'd been on the pill for about 10 years before trying for DS and it took about 6 months to get a normal cycle back and then I conceived the month after so have absolutely no idea how long it might take this time. I'm excited but equally absolutely petrified at the thought of being pregnant with a toddler. I did NOT enjoy pregnancy last time!!!

Pointlessfan · 12/01/2016 09:46

Welcome sunny, I'm also nervous about the prospect of a baby and a toddler!

Period started today so hopefully going to start TTC in a couple of weeks - eek!

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 12:48

Thank you! How old is your DC pointless?

Pointlessfan · 12/01/2016 13:52

She's 21 months and very lively! If I do fall pregnant I hope we'll be able to potty train her over the summer so at least only one would be in nappies.

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 17:21

Yeah I can't say I'm looking forward to two in nappies to be honest! Did it take you long to conceive your DD?

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 18:15

Two toddlers is hard work but also so much fun! My eldest was ten days off her 2nd birthday when my youngest was born. I started potty training a week after her birthday and although it was hard I was glad to get it done. She took to it well and was completely day time dry after about three months and night time dry at around 2 and a half. We tried her once before my youngest was born and she just wasn't ready. If we fall pregnant quickly we will have a four year old, a two year old and a new born. Fun times ahead lol x

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 18:29

Haha wow Theresa you really will have you hands full! How did you find adapting life and routines when you had a newborn and a toddler? So sorry for everyone TTC their first, really don't want to hijack and make this into a TTC your second thread!

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 18:55

It was a big difference but I adapted quite easily tbh. I have plenty routine but am also a pretty chilled person. I did find that going out most of the time rather than staying in was actually much easier as my toddler was occupied and baby slept well when in the pram. I'd recommend finding a good soft play. At my local one someone needs to let you out of the building so you know that once you're in there your toddler can't go anywhere lol. Meant I could have a brew and feed baby whilst she happily played.

People will say leave the housework but for me personally it made me more stressed. I would do stuff like hoovering during the day while as my baby would fall asleep to the noise of it lol, keep on top of pots, as soon as used , wash it if possible. Clothes get washed as soon as there is enough for a full load so it doesn't pile up and I get up early or stay up late to get some other bits done. Me and hubby tag team as well, he will get home from work around 6.15 and have play time with the girls before bed while I make our tea and normally hang washing out. Then after we eat I do bed time. I could go on lol but will take up a whole page 😂😳 . I definitely think though that structure works but you also have to just chill out about stuff and take each day as it comes x

SunnyDays1987 · 12/01/2016 20:10

Thanks Theresa I'm exactly the same. People told me not to bother with the housework but it just stressed me out so much more and then takes even more time when you do eventually get a minute to do it. My and my husband have always tag teamed as well, makes life so much easier! I'm thinking of getting a sling as well so I carry baby if they're needing picking up whilst my toddler is playing or needing me to make food etc. Nice to hear you adapted well anyways. How did you cope with the tiredness with a toddler?! With my DS if we'd had a bad night at least I knew I had the option to lie around and rest whilst he was asleep but you don't really get that break with two I'm guessing?

Are you TTC or waiting a few months?

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 20:37

The tiredness is a killer at first I'll admit, you just kind of get used to it though. Slings and carriers are life savers, I've got a carrier already but getting a sling as well for next baby. My husband does no cooking or cleaning lol but is a big help distracting the kids while I do stuff, they adore him.

I'm not currently ttc as I want to lose a bit of weight first. Also both my children are October babies so really would rather not another October baby 😂 .Will be coming off the pill either at the very end of March or mid April. It's gonna be more likely March though as I'm super broody. Will take my March pills I think and then just stop. Means even if we fell pregnant straight away I'd be due early January which is good with me. Think if I could choose I'd have a February or April baby 😊 as long as it happens though I'll take any haha.

Are you ttc now? X

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 20:38

Sorry, just read back and you've said you're ttc around March. Could possibly be pregnancy buddies 😁

stumblymonkey · 12/01/2016 21:26

Hi Sunny...welcome to the thread Smile

I had some good news today...saw a perinatal psychiatrist today and he has said that I don't need to change my medication at all....very pleased!

Soooo....we have agreed to stop using contraception as of today GrinGrinGrin

We're still not 'trying' exactly....I'm not going to take any notice of ovulation and we'll just DTD whenever and start actually TTC in March if nothing has happened by then. Exciting times!

We have DTD today (TMI!) so I have been mentally cheering on those little swimmers as I happen to know its the right kind of time in my cycle LOL!

So exciting stumbly 😁 x

Avriljen · 12/01/2016 21:58

Aargh!! Not feeling so relaxed about ttc now! I'm confused about what to do, we have ski holiday booked first week March, I thought that would be my FW but AF has come a bit early this month, and if I stay at same cycle length for next month then my FW will be 1-2 weeks before my holiday. I don't know if we should ttc then or if should wait until the following month. Any advice? I don't think I would know if I was pregnant but what if I fell and caused problems, would it be too early for any real harm to be done? I know it's unlikely to get bfp first time round but I'm getting acupuncture for other health problems and she is helping with my cycle so with her help it might end up working first time! Also, its now getting a bit too real, is will be my first time ttc so panicking a little!!

AliceScarlett · 12/01/2016 22:20

stumbly I'm so pleased for you! Yay about your meds and yay about ttc now. :)

I've been cheering on the jizz too LOL. 1st time we have had sex off contraception and I'm in the fertile period, feels weird. Omg as if we could have the same due date, he he.

Avril No idea about the skiing risks I'm afraid, but I can relate to the panicking a bit when it becomes real. I settled after the first few days. If it was me I would wait, a few more months isn't long in the grand scheme of things. But if you don't want too and do fall pregnant could you cancel the hol? Might be worth googling skiing and early pregnancy.

-----

I know logically getting pregnant on the first cycle is probably not going to happen, but I'm so excited, I'm impatient, when I decide I want something I want it now. Sigh.

TheresaMarie55 · 12/01/2016 23:26

Do you mean you could conceive whilst on holiday avril? If so then I would go for it if it was me. X

Pointlessfan · 13/01/2016 07:30

Great news, stumbly!
