Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Sarah X

My DD was called 'Holly Jolly' until she was born as a joke (our surname is Christmas)!

zeetea · 15/02/2016 14:16

Can I sort of join in :)

TTC #1
...not sure what else to put ha.
Currently mid-AF after taking my last pill packet. I don't think we'll actively be TTC for a little while though as I'd like to get used to not being on the pill first, quite nervous about all this so just taking it slow - although I've always wanted to NOT be preggo around Christmas because I love ALL THE FOOD and drink.
Currently eating well, exercising, will start taking folic acid etc.

Is anyone else who's TTC #1 going to be bearing first grandchildren, IYSWIM? It's actually really stressing me out because I'm not someone who wants a load of fuss and silliness i'm estranged from my parents and my inlaws have been nagging us for a decade to have babies as my dh is their first and I've always said I wasn't ready because I wasn't at the time but I feel that's all going to get slapped in my face and I'm going to get overwhelmed with how excited people will get and having to manage that - to be expected of course but does anyone else get a bit anxious about all that?!

Wispa Holly Jolly Christmas would have been an amazing name!

wispaxmas · 15/02/2016 15:58

We weren't the first on either side. I'm the youngest of 4, and my siblings all had kids before me. DD was the 6th grandchild on my side. On H's side she was the 3rd. It's easy enough to say, but when you do fall pregnant just remember that this is YOUR baby and not theirs. Grandparents are full of good advice, but while they can offer you don't have to feel obligated to follow it all the time. Other than that I'd say sit back and let them pay for anything they want and enjoy it Wink

I'd recommend getting a tracking app while you're sussing out your cycles off the pill, it'll come in helpful when and if you decide to get into the more active TTC stuff, like SMEP and temping.

Avriljen · 15/02/2016 16:27

Hi ladies!

Sorry I've not been very active on here, I had a break from MN as didn't want to get too obsessed before we started our first cycle of ttc. AF has just made an appearance so I am officially ttc in this cycle! Scary!

I had said quite a few pages back that we weren't sure about starting now as potentially could be very early stages pregnant during ski holiday but AF was a week late so now my FW is during our holiday so we will have lots of apre ski dtd!!

zeetea I'm also ttc first baby and would be first grandchild on both sides, don't feel pressure just now as we have been so anti-baby for years so think people will be so surprised if it does happen, nobody has been hinting that we should be having babies! (Although think my mum might secretly be saying it behind my back!)

SoozC · 15/02/2016 17:15

Zeetea - it'll be our first but with are both younger siblings so wouldn't be the first grandchild. I would be generally embarrassed and stressed about people (parents and in-laws) asking about it and talking about it... Guess I'll just have to adapt when it happens!

zeetea · 15/02/2016 17:53

Glad it's not just me stressing about it!

Thanks ladies. I downloaded Ovia but I've seen in past posts ppl prefer something else... Fertility friend or something?
My bestie just discovered that she's pregnant so it will be interesting to follow her progress (I've not been in much contact with babies/pregnant ladies really! She's my first expectant friend!) and hopefully not be too far behind Smile

Best of luck everyone! Are you all cutting out drinking completely whilst TTC or just have a couple here and there - I'm thinking about not inviting questions at parties and that really X

Felipa · 15/02/2016 19:11

zeetea I have just been drinking a couple of glasses of wine, although now I am 7dpo I am going to cut it out until I find out if pregnant or not

Avriljen · 15/02/2016 20:09

I'm going to carry on having a drink if I want it until I get a bfp but I don't drink very often anyway. I think most people do continue, just to stay sane in case it takes ages!

stumblymonkey · 15/02/2016 20:12

We are having the first grandchild on both sides and probably the only grandchild apart from any more DCs we decide to have...

DP is an only child. I have a stepbrother but he doesn't want children.

That being said...my family are 200 miles away and DP's aren't massively into family (they're lovely but just not into the whole 'close family' thing) so will probably be okay. My DM will be gutted that she's so far away as she's desperate for a grandchild!

Ahh, zeetea, my bestie was 6 wks pg when H and I started TTC, we ended up pregnant at the same time (for a couple months, at least). It's great having friends in the same place as you!

wispaxmas · 15/02/2016 20:36

As for drinking, I'm cutting it out entirely, but not for TTC. It's to lose weight! Drinking a small amount during pregnancy isn't actually harmful. I read a really helpful book last time called Expecting Better. It was great for outlining all the rules and risks and the research behind them because some are complete bull.

SoozC · 16/02/2016 09:57

I'm more worried about reducing my caffeine intake! I was reading about that yesterday - one cup of espresso coffee is the max for one day. Well, I normally have at least three! So I'm going to start practising having decaf while we're TTC, but it's going to be hard!

Vanillaradio · 16/02/2016 10:15

Yeah caffeine is my main problem too. I am down to one coffee a day with the rest decaf which is what I managed last time in pregnancy. However I am still topping up with Pepsi max at the moment particularly on work days, need to switch to decaff drinks!

SoozC · 16/02/2016 10:52

Glad to hear I'm not the only one, Vanilla! The thing is, I don't feel the caffeine affects me anymore, I don't get an increased heartbeat or feel jittery. So I'm likely to forget that it may harm any foetus, therefore will keep having it. I really must get into a decaf reality!

AliceScarlett · 16/02/2016 12:59

No alcohol, caffeine, painkillers, etc, TTC is boring!

Avriljen · 16/02/2016 13:42

What do you all think about taking some medications if you know you're not pregnant yet but are still ttc?
The reason I ask is that I need to go on a long bus journey in a couple of months for a hen night, going by calculations it will be just before the start of my FW that month, assuming I'm not lucky enough to have a bfp by then. I get incredibly bus sick and am already stressing about not being able to take my travel sickness meds. If you knew it was before ovulation then would you still take it? Pharmacist says they're not safe in pregnancy but I wouldn't be pregnant at that stage anyway. Obviously if I had ovulation signs then wouldn't take them but am tempted if no signs.

AliceScarlett · 16/02/2016 14:15

A fertilised egg doesn't even implant for 5-8 days after conception so pre ov you will be fine :) even after ov the blood supply is not connected to the little blastocyte for a while.

AliceScarlett · 16/02/2016 14:16

OK I'm confused, CD19, 2nd patch of EWCM. WTAF.

InspectorPenguin · 16/02/2016 14:52

Hi everyone, an additional recruit!

Age: 35
TTC: #1
Cycle: 1

My boyfriend and I have only been together for a year but we made the snap decision last week to start trying now I've finished my pack of pills.

It seems out of the blue but we're both very sure of our future together and after a lifetime of feeling very unsure about kids (especially after a previous failed marriage on my side) it just suddenly felt the most obvious and natural thing to do! Grin

We're both very excited although realise that my age and the fact I've been on the pill for 17 years will very likely mean it takes a while to conceive. God knows if my ovaries even remember what they're supposed to do!!

We're trying to be as relaxed as possible about it so apart from folic acid and some conception vitamins we're not doing anything else - besides plenty of time in bed :)

I look forward to hearing your stories and lots of happy BFP posts x

Avriljen · 16/02/2016 15:11

Thanks alice hadn't really thought about that, makes me feel a bit better! Although if I am lucky enough to be pregnant by then then I'll need to just take a sick bag!

I had 2 lots of EWCM last cycle as well, it sent ovia crazy! I'm not sure what it means, surely you can't ovulate twice?

Leta86 · 16/02/2016 15:21

Hello, just to let you know I'm joining the boat. 30, TTC#1, PCOS, finally directed to fertility clinic (15 months and no luck :( ) so here we go... [baby dust] to you all... :)

Cateroo · 16/02/2016 18:52

Well I'm now 7 dpo which is early early doors. I have cramps on lower abdo, I am peeing approximately every 90 minutes, sore throat, yesterday I had a sharp pain through left hip (not sciatica - I get that already). Honestly not symptom spotting at all - but basically I feel rough as hell and if this isn't related I'd like it to kindly do one!

As for my position in the family - this'd be the first my side and second husband's side. My father would be sick with excitement, otherwise everyone is a calm old bunch.

Felipa · 16/02/2016 20:52

I'm 7dpo too and unfortunately am in a bad mood today. Fed up, tired and irritable. Almost feels like PMT, that's all I need!!

Cateroo · 16/02/2016 21:02

Chin up Felipa - only a week to go..... Confused

wispaxmas · 16/02/2016 21:58

sooz and vanilla caffeine is one of those things that actually isn't as bad as we're told! Clinical studies actually suggest having up to 3-4 cups of coffee a day will have no effect on a foetus.
