Starting the new thread, Cloudjumper.

Anyone over 40, trying to conceive, whether it is your first or 6th (or more), we're facing the obstacles together.

I've been at it for 6 years now, but there are plenty of good news stories from these threads over the years.

Come and join us with your worries, woes, successes and milestones, we are here to support one another in our quest. Grin

I agree jass. We do tend to hear about the miscarriages as the thread is an excellent source of support. I have been on the 40+ thread for years and have seen many women go on to have babies, but as you say, they tend not to stay on the thread and move onto antenatal threads. Fireflies is one of our success stories too. And I guess I am too as I had my son at 41 and 9 months.

I suppose the fact is that there are going to be a higher percentage of miscarriages in an over forties ttc group, but it doesn't mean it is hopeless.

Over on the Fertility Friend charting site there are many women on the over forties pregnancy boards doing really well.

I've got everything crossed that the recent bfp's on this thread (me included Grin ) will be success stories too. One lady on FF was 50 - a natural conception, with her own egg, after 4 miscarriages. she's my poster girl - I want to follow in her footsteps. But it remains to be seen. I am having symptoms daily, but they aren't too bad. I think it will amp up at 6 weeks, it usually does. I am 5+2 today Smile

Hello Freckle - I crossed post with you. I should have remembered you too as a success story. How is your wee girl?

My own CH4 was born a few months shy of 40, too....

AnnieHoo · 14/05/2015 14:37

Ahhhh lovely photo Notsoold.

joey38 · 14/05/2015 15:14

I had my little boy - conceived naturally - at the age of 41 (4 months short of 42). Unfortunately no.2 has not been so easy.....nearly 2 years and counting.....Sad.

diege · 14/05/2015 18:17

I conceived Laurie at age 42 (cd 3!!) ,own eggs, no problems. He's 19mths now!
Gum, I'm willing you on, waving the pom pom poms like crazy ??

So nice to be reminded of all the success stories. It's easy to forget among the sad news that we share but that's the lovely thing about this thread. We are here to support but I think we've shown great resilience & always bounce back from our sadness/frustration/disappointment.
I'm 5 weeks tomorrow. Still boob prodding desperately looking for symptoms & they are definitely getting firmer & slightly tender (probably from all the prodding!)
I went for a blood test yesterday, just for some peace of mind & all is good. My progesterone levels were 87 & hcg in the 2000s. It's early days but it's helped me to relax a teeny bit. I'm having a 6 week scan too. My last pregnancy was all over by then so, I know many of you think there's no point at that stage because of course it can still end, but the EPU dr says they can do things to help if it doesn't look great at that stage. I'm just doing everything I can to make this work.
I'm taking 44 eleven year olds to Berlin on Sunday so no time to relax over those few days - it's so busy I might even have a few minutes a day where I don't think about being pg! (Probably not though).
Hope everyone's ok.

diege · 14/05/2015 23:17

That's great news Grizzer ?? It sounds like you're beng looked after well too which must be very reassuring xx

flotillas · 14/05/2015 23:33

Diege, how on earth does anyone ovulate at cd3??!

diege · 15/05/2015 00:16

I know flotillas, that's what I said to the Dr ( wasn't ttc ing and didn't find out I was pregnant for weeks). Dr said she thought dhs swimmers could have stayed around for a few days (so actually ovulated around cd6/7) but said she sees this a lot in older women. It was the only day we dtd that month too! ??

notsoold · 15/05/2015 00:58

Diege.... Ds looking lovely ..great photo! Cd3!!! Wow....

VortexOfDisaster · 15/05/2015 06:31

Hi all, I've posted here in the past, but not for some time now. I am a regular lurker and have been following with much interest and sympathy.
Still no luck for me, I'm afraid, ttc #4. I'm 44 now, but we've been ttc (although not consistently) for three years. Delighted to see all the BFPs recently and have everything crossed for you all.

joey38 · 15/05/2015 07:47

diege how did you manage to dtd on cd3? Were you not right in the middle of af? My Dh is not allowed anywhere near me on cd3!!!

flotillas · 15/05/2015 08:08

Diege, one more question (completely intrigued!) What cycle day did you usually ovulate, on average?

Vortex, hello Smile

Thinking of you, Fatty Thanks

I have some news....I have put our names down for the waiting list for donor egg IVF! Shock I have only been ttc for six months but I am really, really afraid this isn't going to happen for us naturally.

diege · 15/05/2015 08:45

Re cd 3, periods were extremely light, and as I was temping as contraception deemed a good chance to get it over and done with (if you take my drift) for that month. My cycles were very short at the time (21 days) and the previous month had ovulated around day 11 iirc x

Gumblossom · 15/05/2015 09:32

Hi Diege! So lovely to hear from you Grin Thanks for the pom poms, I need all the help I can get. So far, so good. Symptoms seem to be getting stronger. The boobs are more tender and rather than being on and off, they are just constantly "on". I am going through a roller coaster of feelings. Completely accepting and resigned to "whatever will be", through to, "I will be devastated if it doesn't work out". Unfortunately I got a glimpse at the Trisomy 21 odds for a 48 year old and really wish I hadn't. Scary stuff.

I believe my body has been pretty good at weeding out the problems so far (hence 4 losses), so if my baby isn't well, it will probably happen again. However, i just have to take one day at a time, and every day is a step closer to the next milestone, and who knows, perhaps it really is a golden egg this time?

Flotillas, I am excited to hear your news. It must be reassuring that you have the DE option available if all else fails.

Thanks for the pics of your gorgeous children, Diege and notsoold. Seeing them has just reinforced how much I want this to turn out for me.

Grizzer, your progesterone and HCG are fantastic! I can't wait to hear how your ultrasound goes. I have an appointment to see my doctor at 6 weeks 6 days (if I make that far), and I will ask her for a reassurance scan then. Then I will probably ask to have them fortnightly - though I know it can't change the outcome, I just don't want to spend weeks 8,9 and 10 bricking it...

cloudjumper · 15/05/2015 11:29

diege Glad to see you back here, it's been a while (I used to be JBrd Smile). Can't believe Laurie is 19 months already, it really doesn't seem that long ago.

Makes me think of all the other graduates from this thread, morien, sapphire, mozzarellamummy... Also makes me think that I have been here for sooo long now. It'll be 3 years this summer that we embarked on the journey of ttc #2.
I'm kinda thinking that if this pg doesn't work out, that's it for me. These 3 years have certainly taken their toll on me, and I don't know if I can keep going... We'll have to see.

flotillas Good on you for being proactive! We discussed the option of DEs, but sadly, my DH is not keen. At all. Same with adoption.

Grizzer How far along are you now? I'd be interested to hear what your EPU says they'll do at 6 weeks, if it doesn't look great!
And good luck for the trip to Berlin! It's a fab city, I've been loads, but not sure I would like to take a bunch of 11-year-olds Grin

I'm still feeling reassuringly sick all the time. And ravenous. I'm ashamed to admit that I literally inhaled a massive pizza last night, within 15 minutes Blush In my defence, we were late for the cinema, but still!
Spotting some brown blood on an off - not a lot, only when wiping, but still, it makes me nervous. Roll on Sunday for the scan!

Grizzer · 16/05/2015 08:18

How exciting Flotillas. How long do you think it will be til you hear anything? What's the first step?
Do you have loads of symptoms Gum? I don't have anything. Even my boob prodding isn't working! I thought my blood test would reassure me but i wish I could have one every day. I keep telling myself that 5+1 is too early for symptoms but I would just like a couple!
Cloud, I'm hoping not to find out what they will do if things don't look good. Probably nothing in reality. When I was last there for mc they just said 'there are things they can do to prevent mc' but I don't know what that could mean.
Good luck for tomorrow xx
I'll be back from Berlin on Thursday so will catch up on all the news then.

Grizzer · 16/05/2015 10:13

I've started bleeding. It's old blood, not fresh but enough for a pad. It doesn't feel good. I'm at the swimming pool while dd has her lesson. There are 2 heavily pregnant women & one new born baby. I want to cry!

cloudjumper · 16/05/2015 10:58

Grizzer Poor you, it is so disheartening! But don't give up hope just yet! it could be that your uterus is adjusting to the bean getting comfortable in there. I had a bleed at 6 weeks and have been spotting on and off since then.
Crossing everything for you, try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know) xxx

Gumblossom · 16/05/2015 16:17

Grizzer, sorry to hear about the bleeding.Bleeding in early pregnancy is so common, and usually everything is fine. However, I completely understand how you feel, I would be worried too. As for the symptoms - so many women don't have any until 6 weeks. Do you remember if you had them in you DD's pregnancy?

Although I am having some, the symptoms are on and off, and not always reassuring. I also know that I had them before, and kept on having them even once I'd miscarried, so I don't find them all that comforting. Nothing will still my anxious mind until I get the all clear from testing, and that's not until about 14 weeks, and who knows if I will even get that far. This morning I woke with no breast tenderness at all, no nausea. Was convinced it was all over. I went to a zumba class, deciding that whatever happens, being fit will do me good. It wasn't until after the class that I started to feel very hungry, then a bit sick. And not until this afternoon did I get breast tenderness again.

It is a total headf*&k. I think I might go mad over the next 6 weeks. I wish i could just go into a coma until then...

I did not have a singel symprom with any of my successful pgs. None. Zero. Nada. I think that I only had them with this last mcied pg because of all the supplements, mainly the progesterone I was taking.
Symptoms is not an issue. And I hope Grizzer, that for you bleding some brown stuff is not an issue neither. Hoping for th best, but I know this sinking heart feeling.Am so sorry for you going through this. But there is hope! Are you on aspirin or other mdcines which may cause early pg spotting?

Cloud, yur scan time is tomorrow, isn't it? Fingers crossed!

AF was here with vengeance since Thurs and I had to resort to sleeping in tena lady nappies, it got so bad. I hope it was one-off, stll some reaction from mc, and am back to waiting for ov now. Will do soy this month again, same dose and days as last time when I got pg. days 3-7, 100 mg to start and then 200 on last day.....Have been taking wobenzyme, a natural immune suppressor, andhoping it will not lead to anovulatory cycle as pred does for me. Last cycle was anov, according to my doc, but no wonder, considering I had a repeat eprc before thcycle started, so last one was truly wtf and for a reason. Am grateful that AF showed exactly 28 days later, and 12 days after the LH surge, so LP was long enough even if thsurge did not lead to ov. Am gluten and sugar free too, hoping it might calm immunes further. For some reason this last mc has put me into ttc overdrive and all I want is to see these two lines again as quickly as poss. stupid.

Grizzer · 16/05/2015 22:16

Bleeding didn't come to much after my drama this morning. There is still a small amount when I wipe but nothing on pad. Funnily enough one boob is really sore now so hope that's a good sign.
I haven't taken anything yet Jass but am supposed to inject clexane before flying due to previous dvt. However, it's only a short flight so I might either opt for an aspirin or just wear the compression tights & not take any meds. So nervous about doing more harm than good & causing a bleed.
Good for you sticking to the Zumba Gum. I must confess I'm too anxious to bounce about too much & am going to go for more gentle exercise once I've had 6 week scan & been told everything is perfect Grin. Just hope no one asks to weigh me before that because I am not at my ideal weight (by about a stone!!)
It's not stupid at all to want those 2 lines Jass, especially as your body seems to be slowly accepting a pregnancy.
Hope all goes well tomorrow Cloud & you manage to get some sleep tonight!
