Reliability of Ovulation Tests in Infertile Women

Abstract

Objective: To assess the reliability of the most widely used clinical methods for predicting or confirming ovulation.

Methods: We monitored spontaneous cycles in 101 infertile women using basal body temperature (BBT), transvaginal ultrasound, a urinary stick system for LH surge, and three serum progesterone measurements in the midluteal phase. Transvaginal ultrasound monitoring was standard for ovulation detection and sensitivity. We calculated specificity and accuracy of each method compared with that standard.

Results: Follicular development and ultrasound evidence of ovulation were confirmed in 97 of 101 cycles (96%). Urinary LH surge preceded follicular rupture assessed by ultrasonography in all cycles and showed concordance with ultrasound-evidenced ovulation in 98 of 101 cases. The timing of BBT nadir had wide variability, and BBT and ultrasonography agreed in a similar percentage of cases (74%). Midluteal serum progesterone assessments showed ovulatory values in 93 subjects, and ovulation was concordant with ultrasonography in 90 subjects.

Nomio Luckily for me, we didn't share everything. We had separate bank accounts, cars etc. The only big thing was that his name was on the deeds of the house, which we bought together, but stupidly the mortgage was solely in my name, because he had a bad credit rating when we applied and they would only give it to me. So when we split, I was in a crazy situation where I was paying for the house, but he owned half of it. I was able to do so as he had been unemployed for about a year, but it was a difficult job buying him out of his half and getting him to sign the papers. To this day, he still hasn't switched addresses for his car and I still get letters through from the DVLA.

I had EWCM on Monday, but I'm hoping that I ovulated Saturday or Sunday, as DH was too tired to DTD on Monday (Pow! Pow! Pow! night).

Hey there I don't post on here too much anymore I have migrated over to the infertility threads as am now on cycle 14, ttc#1. I am hoping to start ivf next month and we are looking at going to Reprofit in Czech Republic. I saw your post purdey about having treatment out there and you have got me in a dilemma now between Gennet and Reprofit? How did you find the whole experience in Czech? Any hints or tips?

I am currently researching causes of schizophrenia for a presentation tomorrow (I am a not so mature student) & scaring myself silly.

Infection during pregnancy, complications during birth, being born male, born in winter, having a traumatic birth, older father, being brought up in urban areas. All these things cause increased chances of psychosis.

I think I need to find a young guy to knock me up, genetically select a girl & then live in isolation in the country!

It is a wonder anyone is ever born sane!
