Cariad lovely im sorry to hear about the treatment in your area its so unfair everyone should have the same chances! I would try not to worry yet and agree with thinking again in June even with one tube you still have a gd chance of conceiving naturally were all here for you :)

Cariad2014 · 01/02/2015 19:27

Thanks Blueberry. Am I right in thinking your scan's tomorrow? If so, good luck. I shall be thinking of you.

Apologies to everyone for hijacking this thread with my local NHS trust rant!

crazypuglady · 01/02/2015 19:36

Justified rant Cariad it's terrible that you have to wait so long. The government should be ashamed of themselves. No way can that ever be justifiable.

MissMrsMummy · 01/02/2015 19:41

Sorry to read about your situation cariad that really us unfair Thanks

TrixieRay · 01/02/2015 19:48

Cariad, so sorry to hear about your GP visit, 3 years is ridiculous. The NICE guidelines are 2 years of infertility for IVF (it was 3 years but was reduced) I would go back and see a different GP if you can. We're neighbours right (SE London) I'm Lewisham and have been told 2 yrs. I have the same concerns re private IVF, the tww is hard enough without our savings on the line!

CoffeeTwo · 01/02/2015 19:49

Cariad so sorry to read about your gp visit. Really hoping you get your bfp soon.

I can't believe it's only the 1st of Feb and we're on our third thread! I've had my positive OPK so hoping that my temps will confirm ovulation soon. Fingers crossed for everyone.

Cariad2014 · 01/02/2015 20:07

Trixie - we are indeed neighbours. I'm in Southwark. The GP did point out that Southwark are due to review the fertility treatment they offer in 2015, so I guess there's always a chance that their offering improves... Speaking to another GP sounds like a good idea.

PurdeyBirdie · 01/02/2015 20:18

Spinning, your plan is a good one, although I'm beginning to wonder if sex the morning after ov is the jackpot. The more I read about opks and LH surges the less I know for sure. What if your CD11 surge means - for you exclusively - that the egg is released 48 hours later? If you knew this to be a fact, would you have sex on CD13 too? I think I would. We are so conditioned to stop having sex the day after the LH surge, aren't we? I wish it were an exact science, but I honestly believe a positive opk means different things to different women. Where one might ovulate on the same day as the surge, some one else will ovulate 36-48 hrs later Confused

The only way to really cover all bases would be to have sex the day of the surge, the next day and the day after that.

PurdeyBirdie · 01/02/2015 20:26

Miss, ask your receptionist for a copy of the prog test. How many days prior to AF do you spot? How long is your luteal phase? Ah, I think you said eleven days? If that's the case - but your womb lining is falling away (spotting) for three or four days before - then you will struggle to sustain a pregnancy.

Spotting is abnormal and should never be poo-pooed by doctors. Why do they shrug this off so casually?

loopylou1984 · 01/02/2015 20:30

Purdey - quick question for you (or anyone else who temps) - af arrived this morning, but my temp has not dropped below the cover line. Do you think this is just because of my disturbed sleep the last couple of days (and a couple of Vinod last night!)?
Just curious. X

TrixieRay · 01/02/2015 20:33

Sorry AF arrived Sammy. Not sure about disturbed sleep but I found a few drinks definitely raised my temp the next day.

mustbemad71 · 01/02/2015 20:34

Sparkly great news about your peak - go girl! Sorry to hear you've not been feeling well enough to be up and about.

Cariad that is an unacceptable wait - the postcode lottery stinks.

Dojo yay congrats to you! Grin

spinningirl10 · 01/02/2015 20:35

Thanks Purdey, it's all down to luck really isn't it?! I guess all we can do is keep shagging and hope for that bfp!

MaMaPo · 01/02/2015 20:39

Good to see you again Cariad. I think the nhs is marvelous but the postcode lottery is pants. I used to work for a regional unit in north London that covered about 8 different boroughs and PCTs and the difference in healthcare my patients got for their very severe situations was terrible.

Yep, Purdey, a short lp is my suspected culprit. It's usually 9-10 days which theoretically could work but obviously it isn't so far. Not quite sure when I can get my bloods done, especially as I'm not home until tomorrow and can't tell when I've ovulated due to missing a temp. Anyone want to look at my current chart and make a guess?

Then it's back to the GP. I think I'll take a leaf out of Purdey's book and do some research so I can suggest a testament to her (? Progesterone) before I just get referred to a specialist.

MaMaPo · 01/02/2015 20:40

Oops - forgot to add my chart! Blush

TrixieRay · 01/02/2015 20:41

Cariad we really are neighbours, I'm on the boarder between Lewisham and Southwark, used to live there and still work there.

PurdeyBirdie · 01/02/2015 20:45

Sammy, I dug out this chart from 2013 to show you how evil the temps can sometimes be. Can you imagine how excited I was by 15dpo? My usual luteal phase was 13 days and here I was with raised temps still! I wasn't pregnant though...Sad I have quite a few examples like this in my repertoire, and I suspect it is FF giving us a too-low coverline.

Sammy, when you get pregnant you will just know from your chart - it will be quite unlike any of your others.

loopylou1984 · 01/02/2015 20:46

Thanks Trixie
Yeah that's what I thought about the alcohol, my temp did drop and I guess af was approaching so it wasn't a shock, it's just it's always gone below the coverline before. X

PurdeyBirdie · 01/02/2015 20:51

MaMa, make sure you iterate to your GP that implantation normally occurs between days 7 & 10dpo and this means your nine/ten-day luteal phase would thwart a developing embryo. Tell her you need progesterone or you will kill her husband and rape her dog.

If my life depended on hazarding a guess, I would say you ov'd on CD13, but that is a pretty rubbish rise. Get thee to the quacks.

loopylou1984 · 01/02/2015 20:51

Thank you for posting that Purdey.
That's just evil, you must have been so excited.

Mine is a more obvious drop than yours, but I was surprised that it didn't go below the coverline... I guess I should just be thankful there was a drop at all.

It's really not an exact science is it?! Xx

PurdeyBirdie · 01/02/2015 20:58

FOR EVERYONE: I found this on FF..

How long can sperm survive in fertile cervical fluid?

The longest that sperm can survive in fertile (egg white or watery) cervical fluid is five days. All pregnancies can be attributed to intercourse that takes place within the five days before ovulation and the day of ovulation.

Sperm, however, do not typically survive for five days, even in fertile cervical fluid. A life span of 2-3 days is much more typical for sperm, even in fertile cervical fluid- less without fertile cervical fluid.

To maximize your chances of conception, keep having intercourse until ovulation is confirmed by a clear and sustained thermal shift as intercourse closer to ovulation is much more likely to get you pregnant.'

So..there it is. Your doctor, Knitfast, is a moron (didn't he say sperm could last twelve days? Confused) What confuses me, then, is why do the SMEP if we know for sure that any sex more than five days before ov is pointless? Perhaps the Plan aims to also keep the fella's testicles ticking over with regular ejaculation. Any thoughts?

Missmrs and Rainy yep he's almost home so tonight and Tomor it is! Managed the cake, whacked now, just need to put topping together Tomor making a chocolate ganache type thing. Will post a pic for all my cake loving MN pals to see once done! Ha ha

HeirtotheIron that sounds like such a productive day!! And tasty brunch that !

Purdey awww don't be sad! Believe me, I'm so used to it... One year I spent id say five months in bed! It sounds horrendous I know but when it's part of your day to day you get used to it and i appreciate all the little things In life so much more now! And it's never a permanent setback.. I know I'll be stronger again in time! I'm ok today not as bad just overdone it a bit so taking it easy now. Dh bday Tomor but just be chilling out I think! SMEP is going well though although we started mega early by look of things!! We AI CD 8, 10, 12, 14 and now tonight will be CD 15 so I imagine I won't OV till Tomor night/Tues as usually I have my Two fertile days in a row of smiles then huge temp dip next day which I always think must be OV.

Spinning with smep they tell you to dtd day of peak fertility, day after, next again day then MISS a day then do again next day!! Since I read about this we added in extra days after like they describe as think we stop to early. Maybe worth considering dtd a bit longer?? Thanks for being so sweet.. You lot are lovely! Yes I have times when I'm a bit better and times when I'm really bad.. I haven't been "well" as before illness for ten years. It's hard obviously but you have to focus on the good things!

Twinkle don't be silly in defo not close to amazing ha ha. Everyone has their own problems eh, that's life and all that..! Although I always say to everyone I know.. Honestly believe if you have your health you are a very rich person!

Sarky if there's a line on a frer even if faint it could get darker?? Positive thoughts don't give up yet!

cariad you are right. You are paying in.. It's so unfair that you are getting such a rubbish service back!! I'm hopeful for you. And glad you have a plan of action for what's next! Fingers crossed for you xx

Sammy sorry AF arrived Flowers

Purdey did I ask you before I can't recall- what are your thoughts on my progesterone? I have the brown spotting six days before AF usually and I never feel my temps are that high?

PurdeyBirdie · 01/02/2015 21:05

Should I use a lubricant or any other product to increase my cervical fluid?

'A lubricant is meant to replace arousal fluid, not cervical fluid. Lubricants should only be used while trying to conceive if you cannot have sex comfortably without one. No lubricants, even ones that claim to be sperm-friendly or sperm-neutral, are meant to be a replacement for cervical fluid and most are unfriendly to sperm.

Saliva is also unfriendly to sperm and should not be used as a lubricant while trying to conceive.

If you must use a lubricant to have intercourse, check with your doctor or pharmacist to find the one that is right for you that will be most friendly to sperm. Keep in mind though that no lubricant enhances your chances of conception. A lubricant can only help you conceive if you would not or could not have intercourse without it.
