Well as the title says :) I've chosen the worst time to get my act together and start my diet (again!!) I'm well overweight, in fact in classed as obese so I need to lose a tonne of weight. I know I need to be a healthy weight to conceive so there isn't much more of a motivator than the hope if a BFP :) I'm just counting calories until Christmas Eve (when we have our traditional Xmas eve meal of good old McDonalds!) and then back on track on the 27th when I will be returning to Slimming World.
If anyone fancies joining me, or even just to give me a kick up the arse, feel free :)

That's a good idea I'm definitely up for that. Looking forward to getting xmas out the way so I've got no excuses for not eating healthily.

itssangriaoclock · 23/12/2014 21:56

itssangriaoclock · 23/12/2014 21:56

Must buy some scales now

honeysucklejasmine · 23/12/2014 22:01

Agreed sangria. Love it, feels like a blank slate! I figure i need to lose at least 100lb and that's without weighing myself. (i know roughly what it is.) still, easy to work out percentages lost!

spamanderson · 24/12/2014 07:11

honeysuckle my weakness is chocolate and carbs! Potatoes are my favourite food ever!

I'm going to try being good from the 27th/28th but blooming DH is a feeder... He has said before that I'm happier when I can eat what I like so it's an easier life for him :/ he and my DM are a nightmare, I'll be good then they'll bring me cakes or chocolate, I don't have much willpower! He's brought home bags of popcorn, 6 (!!!!) things of cheese, a gammon (as well as a fricking massive Turkey and leg of lamb ) a bag of christmas spiced biscuits, plus I can see already that there's 2 tubs of roses/celebrations under the tree :(

Spam have you tried Alan Carr's guide to weight loss? It is a good read, a bit too vegetarian biased for me, but you can ignore the bits that don't work.
Also my DH was a little like yours, really he loves cooking and for me to love his food. It took a couple of fraught conversations to really ram things home:

  1. showing love through boundaries and respect and support is the best way to show it.
  2. just because something affects him negatively, doesn't mean I should give up. That's tough, if healthy eating becomes normalised then over time there won't be crabby moods. Crabby moods exist when you feel you are denied something. That's why I found SW so good as you can eat large amounts and retrain you self to monitor certain foods.
  3. why doesn't OH want me/you etc to be slim and healthy? In my OH's case it was because he felt he would then need to get healthier too. And he did over time.

Don't be afraid to find out why and to be quite, well, aggressive on stating your goals, and how you expect him to be supportive. And they doing things like bringing home foods that aren't good for you will cause a real stress in your relationship. And the same with your mum. Project the shame onto them for failing to support you. Not shame on you for failing to succeed despite the foodstuffs people put in your way. No one could succeed with food parcels like that!
Take back ownership of the kitchen and shopping list by planning meals. Lay down ground rules about using fry light to cook with, that excess fat to be cut off meats, to have no treat food in the house- if the kids need something them they can have when out etc. Buy nakd bars at supermarket, cocoa snd orange ones are great and feel like a treat.
Instead if fizzy drinks have fizzy water with lemon. Etc. maybe make these together with him? Is he overweight ? Or join a gym together? Go walking together etc?

bluewisteria · 24/12/2014 08:11

Sorry for typos! On ohone

bluewisteria · 24/12/2014 08:11

Argh.

spamanderson · 24/12/2014 19:43

Anyone on the 2ww (or in my case the 5-9 day wait!) are you partaking in a bit of booze this Christmas? We don't drink (not teetotal but we just aren't big drinkers!). This time of year is the only time we have a tipple and I really fancy having a glass or 2 of wine tomorrow but feel bad in case we did miraculously conceive this month :/

blue ooooh no I haven't seen that! I shall have a look. I'm a meat eater but eat very little meat, whereas DH would live on it! Pasta and potatoes are my fav our ute, along with fruit and veg but I just eat far too much of it and I love my 'treats'. I tried Atkins before and another one similar with no caffeine or carbs allowed. I lasted a day on the no carbs and caffeine one, DH said no way I could do another day on that as I could have killed him with the caffeine withdrawal, all I wanted was a bloomin cup of coffee and an apple :/
He's very overweight too but his bmi is better than mine. If I control his meals etc he's fine and will diet and lose weight but over the last year or 2 especially, I've been run off my feet with work ( >full time self employed), the house and kids that I haven't done my meal planning :( I used to plan a whole month at a time, do a big shopping order for cupboard and freezer stuff then top up on the fresh each week. I lost 4 stone and was less than 2 stone from my goal.....then got too busy and the weight piled back on with another stone or 2!
Unfortunately my mum is incredibly sensitive and mentioning anything not positive is me telling her she's a bad mum etc :/ she'll bring chocolate or desserts etc over and I'll say I can't have it so she'll say it's for the dd's... But if it's in the house it calls to me. (She's overweight too btw, she's a few lbs lighter than me though)
I'm looking forward to christmas being done as I can move my lounge back to normal and get my weights and exercise bike back out. Bought a new cable for my cross trainer too as the flipping dog ate the last one :/
2015 is going to be my year, dc3 will be conceived, DHs op will be paid off, I'm turning the big 3-0 and I WILL finally lose my weight and keep it off!
I'd love to join the gym but it's just cash we can't afford at the moment unfortunately, not after his op :/ he's not an exercise kinda guy, he keeps saying about using my weights and that's as far as he'll go. He's weird though, his arms, thighs and bum and just muscle, a tiny layer of fat on his back but all his weight is in his belly. He doesn't drink but it's like a beer belly. It'd just be nice for us to both lose a couple of stone and not feel like a pair of weebles when we DTD ha ha!

I love your determination Spam! I am also feeling determined. I know i can do it!

I think i am going to use YouTube videos as workout dvds and do one a day (at first).

I know i can do the cooking and healthy eating... I just need to crack my danger zone meals and not eat my weight in toast.

What do you ladies think is a good, filling, lunch? My best bet i think is left overs of the healthy dinner the night before! But gets a bit repetitive. Thoughts?

Oh, and hope to had a brilliant Christmas!

21questions · 26/12/2014 12:58

I'm feeling determined too, ate and drank way too much yesterday. I realised I really want to do this. I used to do Davina workouts every day honey and found they worked for me so I am going to dust them off and start again.

I always try to eat more veg and less carbs when I am cutting down so always feel hungry to begin with until my stomach adjusts, just got to get through the first couple of weeks and then I find it gets easier. I am ashamed to say I am a terrible yo yo dieter Blush

Hope everyone is well and enjoyed christmas. Looking forward to getting started on our weight loss journey Smile

spamanderson · 26/12/2014 14:23

honeysuckle don't confuse determination with sheer stubbornness ;) he he. Stubborn as a mule me I'm afraid! I'm going back to slimming world. I did weight watchers on the old system and while I lost weight super quick, I didn't eat healthily as I'd choose a fun size chocolate bar over a larger healthy item to use up a few points. It didn't teach me healthy eating habits etc. with SW I find the most filling things (when there's little time!) is those bachelors rices, mug shots pastas etc. I buy in tonnes of fruits and make big fruit salads, vegetable sticks for snacking, pickled onions and beetroot etc. noodles are quick and easy too, baked beans etc. I find baked beans and a poached egg very filling because of the protein and fibre.
21 I'm a yo-yoer too I'm afraid! I ate quite a lot yesterday and have been quite a lot of chocolate :/ 2 bottles of wine (the only wine I ever drink and I blooming love it!) lunch tomorrow though is vegetable sticks and a bit of dip so it's the beginning of weaning myself back onto non junk again!

Well my diet has completely gone to pots over last 2 days... New start tomorrow :)

itssangriaoclock · 26/12/2014 16:55

Have eaten too much but I have been more refined that what I might have normally been. I also weighed myself at inlaws for a start weight. It was the same as a few weeks ago which I guess is a good thing. Will take all remaining bad food to work on sun, that always goes down well.

My plan until the weight doesn't come off. Is to simply not eat between meals and make good choices. Take the dog for better endurance walks. This has worked well for me before.

Would like to loose between a stone and stone and a half.

honeysucklejasmine · 26/12/2014 17:13

I'm at the ILs tomorrow so for me the diet starts on Sunday. Will need to do a food shop Sun too so can make sure I have lots of SW free foods. Smile

itssangriaoclock · 27/12/2014 14:43

Does anyone have any healthy meal suggestions just getting to do a post Christmas healthy shop need inspiration pls.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 28/12/2014 14:01

Just checking in again to mark my place. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Not stressing too much about starting the diet until end of next week as Dh and I both have a week off and want to enjoy it! Just going to try to restrict the amount of chocolates going in!

bluewisteria · 28/12/2014 18:43

How's everyone doing?!!
Been on plan yesterday and today, and the gym this evening, although a short session... Hurt like !@#*

What is the start day and weigh in day? My brain is a little mathematically confused...Confused

bluewisteria · 28/12/2014 18:45

Spam, sorry about your mum. Mine is the same it sounds like, it was hell growing up. I'm really conscious of food relationships and healthy supportive body approach with my own DDs.

honeysucklejasmine · 28/12/2014 19:51

I think we suggested that start day is 1st Jan, and weigh in is 8th. We were going to weigh ourselves on 1st, then on 8th report in the weight change e.g. -6lbs! I'm an optimist

I think I am going to find out the weights of common things, so i can compare. Sometimes the numbers are a bit abstract for me. It's helpful to know that i lost to equivalent of a bag of sugar or whatever.

I am also going to have a little decoration to show my progress. I have an empty frame and some glass pens so i shall take the time each week to amend the total. Hopefully if i put it somewhere obvious it might help!

I did also make a word art of all the symptoms and side effects of obesity and stuck it on the fridge. Must jazz it up a bit so i keep noticing it!

honeysucklejasmine · 28/12/2014 19:58

Oh, oh, also! I did a meal plan using my old SW books! For the next two weeks, but obviously only shopped for first week. Excited to get going so i think i will weigh myself sooner rather than later so i don't feel my effort is wasted. Then just report a bigger loss as it will be more than seven days. :-)

Perhaps if someone has something super yummy or a really good workout we could share?

itssangriaoclock · 28/12/2014 21:51

Sounds good honey. I'm starting tomorro, was going to be today but failed ??. I'm going to buy some scales and join in with the -lbs. need motivation

bluewisteria · 29/12/2014 07:28

Fab fab fab.

I have scales, will weigh... Might to it today to prevent me from ODing over New Year!!

But I must meal plan. That is my downfall.
