Still here, still struggling on, still hoping to get there in the end. Come on ladies, we'll all get our BFPs in 2015 (if not before)!

Thanks metal.

Haha good luck with that! And yay for the +opk

GoodEggMightMaterialiseAnytime · 19/03/2015 12:27

Also googling Inositol!

Good luck with the stealth shagathon Metal and sorry about AF Brindler.

Also, why the F do they send you to antenatal clinic for infertility ultrasound?!? ??

Metalhead · 19/03/2015 13:07

Oh I know goodegg, it's just rubbing salt in the wound, isn't it? Angry

BurningGubbins · 19/03/2015 17:55

How did it go Brindler?

I also had a +opk earlier than expected, but it was a really rapid peak and drop, when usually I have an almost positive a day on either side. Hope we didn't miss our chance.

Temping gurus - when you get your shift does that mean it's game over or does it mean ovulation is happening right then?

Metalhead · 19/03/2015 18:32

burning as far as I know the temp shift comes after ov (it's caused by the rise of progesterone which happens after the egg is released). So if you had a temp rise today it's probably too late, though I would dtd tonight just in case.

I'm in that annoying week where I'm wondering if everything is a pregnancy symptom. I've been absolutely ravenous for the last 2 days but I don't think we dtd enough this month. Not talking to hubby about it as he got really upset last month when I wondered out loud if I was pregnant then wasn't. At what point did you all become more scientific about TTC? Hubby has specifically said he doesn't want to "make our sex life into a medical project" but I think a bit of focus on when we are dtd might help.

Brindler · 19/03/2015 19:05

Not great. They scanned me while I was there and turns out I have pcos. Also my left ovary is smaller than my right indicating a lower egg reserve. Had a blood test for that after the appt. He said our best chance is with ivf but I always said I wouldn't go down that route. Now I just don't know. It's so much money that we haven't got and still a pretty slim chance. I'm absolutely gutted. They're going to do a laparoscopy and flush out my tubes and have a good look round but I just don't know where to go from here. Feel like it's the end of the road and I can't stop crying.

Wallowing in self pity and wine right now ??

BurningGubbins · 19/03/2015 19:25

Oh Brindler, I'm so sorry. Not sure I have anything constructive to say, just try to look after yourself.
I know what you mean about the IVF. We've also said we wouldn't do it if it came to it, but not sure what would happen if we were faced with it.

BurningGubbins · 19/03/2015 19:30

Thanks Metal, I thought it was that. Haven't had a temp shift yet but I think my thermometer is dodgy so will give it another go tonight. I've had exactly the same temp to 2 decimal places for 3 days, which can't be right...

Kaffkooks, I started with the opks at around month 4 and have become incrementally more crazy since then... Now on cycle 14 so it's clearly not working but it's like playing the lottery - I can't stop because what if..? Thank fuck I don't actually do the lottery...

kaffkooks · 19/03/2015 20:17

What's opks?

BurningGubbins · 20/03/2015 06:28

Ovulation Predictor Kit. You test your urine for a hormone surge which indicates when you're about to ovulate so you can time sex more effectively.

Metalhead · 20/03/2015 14:53

I'm sorry to hear about your pcos brindler, but try not to panic! I'm sure there are are drug treatments for it, did this not get mentioned? And the biggest problem with pcos I think is lack of ovulation - have you had blood tests to check whether that's the case for you? I've got a good friend who has pcos and she conceived quite easily, so it's not always a problem. And who knows, maybe the lap and tube flushing will do the trick for you. I know this must have come as a bit of a shock, but try and stay positive.

kaff I agree with burning, once you start down the route of opks and cycle tracking there is no easy way back, so I'd try and lay off it for as long as you can. Our sex life is most definitely a medical project at the moment, and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to enjoy it... (but I know that we'd never manage to dtd enough if we just went with the flow, I'm usually a once-a-week girl when not ttc).

Brindler · 20/03/2015 19:46

Thanks metal. According to consultant there is no treatment for it. My last bloods confirmed I did ovulate and I get positive opks which seem to be accurate going by when af arrives. I'm not massively irregular with my cycles - maybe out by a day or 2 each month. Not overweight either but have always suffered with my skin. Once I've got over my self pitying sulk I'll have a chat with myself and try and get back on the road to positivity - don't think I'm ready to throw in the towel just yet

Metalhead · 20/03/2015 20:34

If you're ovulating and have relatively regular cycles then I don't think the pcos is the reason why you're having trouble conceiving (disclaimer: I'm not a doctor! Grin). Maybe have a look at inositol, it's supposed to help with pcos and I've been taking it since the start of this cycle (even though my ovaries are only borderline polycystic) and got my earliest ever +opk.

OP posts:
Brindler · 20/03/2015 21:16

I'll certainly look into that - remember you mentioned it earlier in the week! So glad I found this thread, it's been a huge support - thanks ladies xx

BurningGubbins · 21/03/2015 08:02

That does sound odd - you're ovulating and have regular cycles, so what is the impact of the pcos? Sounds minimal?

Brindler · 21/03/2015 08:49

That's true Burning I hadn't thought of it that way. The doc just seemed so adamant that the problem lied with me and we'd need ivf (and was not at all bothered by my husbands low morphology which I thought they would be).

I'm feeling a lot better about it all today actually. Still think I'm going to take this month off from trying just for my own sanity. Will look more closely at my diet and supplements and then get back in the saddle the next month and crack on with this baby making lark!

BurningGubbins · 23/03/2015 06:33

Good for you. My husband is off for his test this week, so we'll see what that brings.

I'm on the 2 week wait now and was feeling hopeful but my temperature is down a bit this morning which I take to be a bad sign. That said, I am not convinced that my thermometer is as accurate as it claims to be, so who knows?

Metalhead · 23/03/2015 09:50

Good luck with the 2ww and DH's test burning! I'm also in the 2ww (only 3dpo) and have really sore boobs again this month, so last cycle must have been a one-off.

little I hope your interview went well on Friday, let us know how you got on if you're lurking somewhere! I've got mine at 1pm today, but feeling quite chilled about it as it's such a long shot. Still, would be nice to get offered the job even if I had to turn it down...! Grin

OP posts:
LittlePoot · 24/03/2015 09:51

Phone still annoyingly broken - have to wait for the insurance to get back to me. It's the most annoying thing in the world! I have to keep tipping the phone on to its side and back to be able to use all of the screen. And because the mumsnet app doesn't flip I can't get to the add message button. Grrrr!

Anyway, what a busy few days! Metal - how did your interview go yesterday? Hope it went well. Mine was weird on Friday - lots of politics and not much about any experience I have. So I've got no idea how it went! They've had to postpone one of the interviews until next week so I won't hear until after Easter I don't think, so am trying to forget about it and bury myself back into work.

Burning - hope dh's test goes well. They really hate doing it! Its like the thought of their little men being anything less than an army of perfect strong soldiers is an affront to their very being. Brindler - my consultant wasn't bothered about my dh's dodgy morphology (2%) either really - she was much more sure that the problem was me and being old. Sorry about your worrying diagnosis - but pcos with no symptoms sounds odd to me too. Did they suggest anything like metformin? A friend of mine was given that and it seemed a wonder drug for weight loss, although in her case it didn't help her conceive (she had ivf - success first round).

Anyway, I'd better go get on with work. Just wanted to check in and let you all know I'm still here. Amusingly, I got a positive opk the night before my interview, so I don't think baby making is going to be successful this month! I guess that means I ov'd on Saturday, so I'm with you on the 2ww.

Metalhead · 24/03/2015 13:21

That does sound like a strange interview little... Let's hope they didn't ask you many questions about your skills because they were already convinced you could do the job!

Mine went ok I think, and the job sounds really up my street, but even if I was offered it I'd probably have to turn it down. The hours and daily commute just wouldn't work, and I'm not sure they'd agree to reduced hours/working from home on a regular basis.

As for baby making, you never know, sometimes it's the month you think you really haven't done enough and then bang - BFP! Wink

OP posts:
BurningGubbins · 24/03/2015 14:35

I did feel sorry for him this morning, it was already a horrible thing to have to do but he's not very well either. We agreed he wouldn't phone me at work to let me know how it went... Grin

Glad to hear the interviews went ok, though yours does sound strange Little. You weren't applying to be PM were you..?

My temp was back up this morning so yesterday must have been a blip. Anyone inventing symptoms yet? I've got some pelvic oddness, but that may be because I'm finally sticking to my diet. T minus 4 weeks until we go on holiday, so suddenly motivation has returned!

LittlePoot · 24/03/2015 15:29

Oh dear - poor dh burning. Hope all went ok. And ha - no, not applying for PM! More about local, institutional politics (infighting and territory!) rather than the national stuff, although there was a tiny bit of that. Was very odd anyway.

I've got symptoms too - crazy hungry and just want to eat all the time. Might be something to do with the 5:2 diet though of course (4lbs down so far...8 to go). But I really am crazy hungry!

BurningGubbins · 25/03/2015 16:47

The test got done, so results next week.

I'm 3lbs down, 7 to go, which is giving me something else to think about!

How's everyone doing?

Metalhead · 26/03/2015 17:33

Well done on the weight loss ladies! I'm currently very fed up of the whole healthy living and have been a bit sloppy with my diet... I think if this month doesn't yield any results (and I don't think it will) then I'll just go back to eating cake and drinking wine! I'm sick to the back teeth of putting all this effort into ttc and not getting any results.

(Sorry for the rant, probably PMT hormones...)
