For anyone TTC or thinking about TTC with Soy Isoflavones

Disneylandkilledmychildhood · 23/10/2014 21:18

I will be starting soy isoflavones tomorrow, cd 3.

This will be my 11th cycle TTC, with two chemical pregnancies/ early miscarriages @ about 5weeks so far this year already.

I've read up quite a lot on SI, and just at the point now where I'm thinking, what the hell, I'll give it a go!

Anybody else TTC with soy isoflavones?

I would shag for longer than normal (as in for more days after, not longer sessions, that's to be gotten over with as quickly as possible of course!). I just have a feeling the whole process is longer.

Metalhead · 14/11/2014 12:38

Get shagging new! Grin I took 100mg on days 4,5,6 and 150mg on days 7&8.

NewEraNewMindset · 14/11/2014 12:41

Metal do you think it did any good? Ie are you going to keep taking them and see if you get a BFP or not bother? I think we have both been trying for a while now (I name changed, was sebsmummy before). We deserve our BFPs goddammit!

Metalhead · 14/11/2014 12:55

Ah sebs it's you, I've been missing you! Smile Indeed we're both long timers on the conception boards, about time we got our BFPs!

Sadly I don't think I will, if you remember I had an erpc after my mmc and I'm pretty sure I've now got a scarred womb. I'm going to a private specialist hopefully next week, and if he confirms it I'll stop the soy as there won't be any point. If he says I'm all clear I'll carry on taking it as it brought my ov forward a little, and I often have long cycles so that was quite good at least.

LoopyLa · 14/11/2014 16:46

3 dpo...can I test yet Grin?

I hate waiting!!!

Metalhead lots of luck for the specialist, hope it goes ok.

GoodEggMightMaterialiseAnytime · 14/11/2014 17:11

Hello ladies. This I my first ever Mumsnet post!

I have been reading this thread with interest as am considering SI to try and briing my ovulation forward. Currently OVing day 20/21 of 28 day cycle.

So would I need to take early like cd 1-5 for this??

Frolicacid · 14/11/2014 18:41

Interesting about your ovulations newand boys. Lovely positive there new - enjoy your Friday evening Wink

I'm 13 dpo. Bfn yesterday and still no symptoms of AF or BFP being imminent. I don't think I'll be celebrating this month.

Hi goodegg. Welcome!! There is a post with lots of useful info about when to take soy for what effect at the beginning of this thread. I took soy days 5-8 this cycle and bought ovulation forward by 5 days. Good luck!

NewEraNewMindset · 14/11/2014 20:26

I have a feeling the amount you take is key to whether you are delaying OV or bringing it forward. My understanding is a low dose 5-9 should be enough to support oestrogen production and the extra amount allows the follicles to mature for longer so hopefully the egg is more developed.

When you take high amounts of soy earlier in the cycle I think you are switching the oestrogen switch off. Then when you stop with the tablets your body goes into overdrive and produces more oestrogen quickly and thus ovulation happens earlier.

GingerbreadHead · 14/11/2014 21:01

Yey congrats on the positive opk New!! And a special wave for you too, we were on a couple of threads together back when you were sebs! Have been wondering how you were getting on. I would agree with boys, try and dtd as much as you can to make the most out of that lovely strong line.
oh metal I'm so sorry you got a bfn. I had such high hopes for you this cycle with the soy. It's not over yet, but I know how you must be feeling Flowers I hope you get some answers at your appt next week.

frolic sorry you're still not getting any symptoms of either, how frustrating for you. How long is your LP normally?

Loopy only another week to go til you can test!!

SolomanDaisy · 14/11/2014 21:05

goodegg, I don't think soy is the right thing for you. It affects oestrogen, and with such a short luteal phase it is likely that you have an issue with progesterone. Angus castus might help you. Have you spoken to a Dr about your short luteal phase though?

Frolicacid · 14/11/2014 22:18

My lap us usually 14-16 days ginger. I should know one way or another before the weekend us out. Have some frer's coming in tomorrow's post hopefully.
I'm a bit crampy tonight, which usually means AF isn't far.

BobsyBoo · 15/11/2014 00:05

Well my temp has spiked but my Fertility App still doesn't think I've ovulated, I keep testing but all negatives so doubt I'll ovulate now especially with boobs being sore.

I'm going to re-think the dosage & CD's of Soy for next cycle.

Loopy I'd be on 3dpo I think if I'd ovulated when I thought I had. It's such a waiting game isn't it.

Frolic 13dpo can be early for testing. Good luck.

NewEraNewMindset · 15/11/2014 09:16

Bobsy FF will give you crosshairs after three consecutive high temps. So maybe you will get them soon.

Well my fertility monitor agreed with yesterday's opk that ovulation day is TODAY!! cd 13, very exciting. The closest I've been to a 28 day cycle in my whole TTC adventure since my son was born. I'm not saying it's going to get me knocked up this month, but it's a damn sight better than the 23 day cycle I had a few months ago.

NewEraNewMindset · 15/11/2014 09:28

Hey Ginger [waves] Grin

GoodEggMightMaterialiseAnytime · 15/11/2014 18:18

Thanks for the info, I've looked back on the thread again and seems to be to take it earlier to try to bring forward ov which is what I thought I wanted but is that likely to just make my entire cycle shorter? Whereas I was looking to try and lengthen my lp.

soloman I have looked into Agnus Castus and have read lots of very mixed reviews so am feeling a but reluctant to try it, am scared it might make things worse as at least I am regular and ovulating regularly. I haven't been to the Dr about my lp yet as only cycle 5 of ttc #2 and am 32 so thought they would prob just send me away to try for a few more months. I caught with ds on cycle 2 of trying so really didn't consider that it could be any different this time Confused

SI seem to have a good success rate on this thread though, congrats to those with bfps and fx for everyone else.

SolomanDaisy · 15/11/2014 18:23

Yes, you need to lengthen your luteal phase. I think if you go to the Dr now and explain how short your luteal phase is, they are likely to offer you testing straight away. Have a look on PubMed for he results of proper trials involving angus castus- they are positive. I think you may need progesterone supplements though.

NewEraNewMindset · 15/11/2014 18:40

Vitamin b6 has definitely given me an extra day on my LP. I take 100mg a day so you could certainly do that for now. I wonder whether acupuncture might hp regulate your cycles, have you tried that before?

Lindsay81 · 15/11/2014 20:36

Hi girls and thank you ginger for pointing me towards this thread. I am trying soy this month and looking for some advice.

I have a short luteal phase, most usually between 9 and 12 days. The problem is not progesterone as far as I know from the tests I have had done (slightly borderline day 21 bloods 20 and 34)
My cycles can range between 24 and 31 days.

What dosage would you recommend?
Also, has anyone taken EPO and what should I take of that?

TIA!! :)

Frolicacid · 16/11/2014 09:02

Good morning! Just popping in quickly to say I had another bfn yesterday on a frer at 14/15 dpo. Looks like I didn't get my soy baby this cycle.

I'm not sure if I will try it again this next cycle. It was great that it bought my ovulation forward, but i suffered terrible migraines the week I took it. I might try a lower dose and see how that goes. I'm hoping the migraines were coincidental.

I will keep watching this thread with interest. Good luck everyone Flowers

LoopyLa · 16/11/2014 10:06

Sorry to hear that Frolic Sad

If not successful this cycle I may go to a lower dose next time aswell, I didn't like the lack of cm that came with it but did like the earlier OV day.

Hows everyone doing on cd/dpo's? Is anyone else tasting soon?

Boysclothes · 16/11/2014 10:15

3dpo here. My ICs are winging their way to me and no doubt I will just wee all over the bag when they arrive like an out of control dog. Literally no self control when it comes to IC.

Boysclothes · 16/11/2014 10:19

Frolic, I'm thinking I'll try the soy for three cycles then off to docs for me. Got tummy pains in the evening after taking but nothing too awful.

Disneylandkilledmychildhood · 16/11/2014 11:18

6dpo and know I'm so close to being able to test. Sitting on my hands atm though, I literally have no self control where ICs are involved either.

NewEraNewMindset · 16/11/2014 11:26

Boys your piss comment is hilarious Grin. Total visual picture there!!

Frolic so sorry darling. We all want this to be the magic bullet and obviously it is for some but not for all Sad. I think a lower dose is still effective so that sounds like a plan.

Well for me I woke up to a temp dip on what is supposed to be 1dpo. I have had a raging cold that I'm just nearing the end of, so that could have impacted on my temps. But I'm certain my fert monitor will bring my OV day back to around cd11.

I am still going to keep to day 13 as my OV day on my app and we will see where we end up at the end of the cycle. As usual BLOODY FRUSTRATING and stupid body.

Frolicacid · 16/11/2014 12:24

Ha! boys, that is hilarious! Good luck!
