Hi - well I was on 500 mg metformin 3 x per day (after each meal). I am not overweight, I'm about 5.7 and weigh under 9 stone. But we saw a consultant who said if I put on 2 -3 stone I would have the full pcos.

Wayzee - when did you stop the metformin in your pregnancy? They have told me to continue for 12 weeks but I am also a bit scared of just stopping then. I'm also on extra progesterone and they said to stop then too with that. They said it was likely I would get gestational diabetes though again.

Coggy and Natty - I really hope the injectables/clomid work this time. Keep us updated!

Artoo - how are you getting on?

jodee · 09/02/2007 20:46

Oh wow, congrats to Artoo and ccpink!

Just checking in to see if this thread was still going!

I had my lap & dye last week, and I didn't think they would find anything as the L&D I had in 99 was fine - but that was 8 years ago - and this time although the tubes are clear, I have some endo. and adhesions on the ovaries, apparently due to having a section with ds.

I have an appt on 21st Feb to discuss it all, just wondered if anyone had had this and what happens next? I've got 3 more cycles of clomid to go (including the cycle I have just started), as I was told to carry on with it, but am i just wasting my time with it?

Artoo · 10/02/2007 07:28

Hugs to jodee, nice to see you stop by.

I don't have any experience of endo, so don't know what happens next for you. There's been a big thing in the press recently about Emma Bunton being pregnant and she suffers from endo, so I'm sure there's a way! Keep us posted with your progress.

Hugs,
Artoo.

coggy · 10/02/2007 09:23

Jodee.....Rachee fell pg the month she had her L&D (although it sadly ended in m/c) so there's always a chance.
Lots of people say that the L&D 'clears' you out and may increase you chances......especially if you are taking clomid as well.

I'm no expert....just what I have heard around here over time.

How are you feeling Artoo?

Hi there everyone... sorry to crash your thread but this is the thread that i get sent to when i click on mn for some reason, probably because it was the first thread I looked to for answers.

I noticed people talking about pcos and metformin recently. Its been a while since I have been on here but I wanted to add that Metformin does work.. and rather quick too!

We were seeing a fertility specialist here in Australia and although I had been tested for PCOS with blood tests and scans of my ovaries, there was nothing to be found. The specialist again took a list of my symptoms and decided that I did have it and prescribed metformin and clomid. I was waiting for af and had not had one in over 80 days by that stage.

Before AF even returned it turned out we got a BFP. I am now 30 weeks pg with our Son who we have named Cooper. He is a little miracle in many ways as not only was it a fluke her was conceived, but we must have caught him on the way out because his placenta has grown at the bottom of the uterus.

So if you are offered metformin or it is suggested, take it. It will probably make you quite ill for a while, but you can take a half tablet until your body adjusts to it. Also, you will be asked to continue taking it for the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy to ensure stopping it does not bring on a mc.

Best of luck ladies...... its all worth it!

coggy · 10/02/2007 10:34

WOW! 30 weeks?
I can't believe how time seems to whizz by on here.
Hope you are feeling well and no ms Wanta....good to hear from you.

HopefulDreams · 15/02/2007 22:28

Natty - congratulations so glad that there are a few BFPs appearing here!

Coggy - I'm just finished my 6 months of clomid too. Went to hospital for follow up and they said they want to do a Laparoscopy in a couple of weeks and if all goes well they will put me on the waiting list to start IUI. So guess we are pretty much at the same stage?

Speak soon.

-x-

Natty1806 · 16/02/2007 08:34

have i missed something?

Not got a BFP to my knowledge. Wish i had.

Lap in march then not sure what next stage is due you think it will be IUI or different drugs?

wayzee · 16/02/2007 20:57

hiya jules123 i was told to stop metformin when less than 5 weeks pregnant anbd cant help but feel that this is what caused me to m/c consultant still says if get pg again will stop metformin cos not enough research into taking it in pg but i darent especially after what happened before. a girl i know took it all the way through her pregnancy and she delivered at 30 weeks but her little boy is perfect. its just so worrying.

ive been taking metformin 850mg twice daily since october when i miscarried and clomid 150mg didnt work biggest follicle i got was 11mm. im know taking injections just had follicle tracking scan today day 11 and one follicle 12mm and one 10mm so they have give me 3 days more injections to see if they develop cos they said they would of liked them a bit bigger by now. so fingers crossed. hope all is going well for everyone else.

HopefulDreams · 17/02/2007 22:09

Natty sorry - been trying to catch up since it had been a while since I was online. Oops - well here's hoping it happens for you soon. xxxx

coggy · 19/02/2007 17:27

Hopeful...here's hoping you are a positive jinx and can predict Natty's bfp!!!

Don't be too disappointed but our waiting list for IUI was 12 months to start with and then it went up to 18 months.
You may be luckier than us but it's worth knowing so that you don't get really disappointed if it's the case where you live.
HTH.

Thanks wayzee - my cons said take the metformin for 12 weeks so I guess I'll do that. I am also taking aspirin and progesterone but was rather scared yesterday as went to the hospital for a scan and they said I have a subchoronic haematoma i.e. bleeding inside the uterus which is not good. I had to go the emergency assessment unit and they said there is nothing they can do just wait, don't lift anything and rest so I can't go out for 2 weeks until the next scan. I'm really terrified it will go. It is so scary.

wayzee · 20/02/2007 18:29

well i hope it goes well for you jules123. i had a haematoma and they are suppsed to be very common the epac nurse told me it is just where the sac imbeds itself into the uterus wall. im going for iui tomorrow and am a bit unsure i have one follicle 17mm so dont know what my chances of success are. good luck ad i hope it all goes well for you.

coggy · 20/02/2007 20:05

Wayzee......I hope all goes well for you tomorrow.....I had my scan today (CD9) and had two follicles...10mm and 11mm...smaller than they wanted me to be so I have to be re-scanned on Thursday with IUI hopefully on Monday.
Have you been on buserilyn and puregon?
(Sorry about spelling )

Is this your first IUI?
Sorry...I am being VERY lazy and not reading back........

OP posts:
jules123 · 21/02/2007 09:16

thanks wayzee - did they say the heamatoma was related to your m/c? what stage did that happen? Good luck with your IUI, let us know how you get on.

Good luck Coggy also!

jodee · 21/02/2007 17:16

Hi Coggy and Artoo (thanks for hugs way back when!, I must get more 'regular' on here!).

Just back from my follow up appt after the lap & dye, feeling less than hopeful at the moment really. No mention of endo (I don't think I dreamt that?) but there are adhesions on both ovaries and left tube slightly stuck down (although both tubes are patent) - the upshot is that no surgery is going to improve the situation and I have 2 more cycles of clomid to go. They are going to check the progesterone levels again this cycle (I am on CD16) then follicle track next cycle to see if it is worth me taking injectable Gonadotrophins (what are the drug names for this??).

Great - a six month wait for injections!!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 21/02/2007 18:17

Hi Jodee,

Some questions for you to start with.

They didn't mention endometriosis?.

What do they think has caused the adhesions on the ovaries and left tube?. The adhesions are a bugger to deal with. BTW have you ever had any abdominal surgery prior to this operation (e.g like appendix removal)?. I am wondering why they have now ruled out more surgery; drug treatments are not effective on adhesions once they are formed.

hMG (Human menopausal gonadotrophins contain both FSH and LH activites, whilst purified FSH preparations contain only tiny amounts of LH. You will need to be monitored most carefully and closely whilst on this treatment with ultrasound scans.

jodee · 21/02/2007 21:27

Hi Meerkat, after I had the lap & dye I was told about the adhesions (and I'm sure they mentioned endo), I asked what could have caused it, was told abdominal surgery. I had a section with ds and they said that was probably the cause. That's my recollection anyway, but I was pretty spaced out.

Today, I had a massive headache which didn't help as I didn't think to ask about the endo, but it wasn't mentioned. When the consultant (who I had never met before, btw) was out of the room asking the Registrar about surgery, I asked her trainee if a section could have caused the adhesions, but she didn't think so.

I think to give them a ring tomorrow with a clear head to find out more about the causes and why surgery isn't an option.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/02/2007 06:49

Hi Jodee,

Hope you're feeling better today.

Any sort of abdominal surgery can cause adhesions to occur.

On a different note I really wish these people would not speak to patients when they are still recovering from surgery!. I did not speak with my cons about the outcome of my surgery till a week after (that's when I got told about the extensive endometriosis. I remember thinking, "oh so that's why I've been in pain all these years!").

Certainly give them a call today, would be interested to hear how they respond to your questions. As I've already mentioned drug treatment won't touch the adhesions once they are formed.

You may want to get a second opinion ultimately.
