Somehow I am still managing to stay relatively sane, despite hearing of several pregnancies today (well at least 2 but it seems like EVERYONE except me is now diffed...but both were IVF successes so I am genuinely happy for them) and also news of the birth of a close friend's 2nd child (a close friend who has always had a perfect life which I try hard not to envy). Shameful! How do I do that score out thing on my phone??

May start opk testing tomorrow. Got cycle day wrong - on day 10 today.

Out of interest, have any BESH had iui? Has it been successful? How many attempts? I've got my appointment with FC on Monday so want to think of questions to ask about iui vs IVF.

FizzyFeet · 11/03/2014 23:55

fankle well done for staying BESH like in the face of announcements. Tis hard when they seem to come at you all at once.

I asked about iui at our first fertility consultation. Her very strongly held view was that iui was not worth the time, as its success rate is that much lower. BUT that's an individual opinion on one couple and I know that other ESH have tried it too.

Be strong Bugs. Have you ever stood up to her? Or challenged her way of thinking or is it always easiest to be submissive in the face of the wrath? I'm asking out of experience here - I'm another with a challenging mother!!

I've got me one of them too! Good luck then lovely - sounds like the best tactic is to sit quietly, nod and hmmm mmm whilst doing the twat-tongue thing when she's really annoying you. Wink Unless you have something that's so important to you that you can't not talk about I think with mums like that it's just best to keep the peace. I guess that's when it becomes one of those 'choose your battles' moments.

Fankletastic · 12/03/2014 11:29

Thanks Fizzy - I've heard lots of people say iui isn't worth it but that it's a good way to see how you respond to the drucks before doing ivf...and it may just work... Plus it's less traumatic than ivf. Hmmm, v confusing. I just hope my FC refers me to the ACU and doesn't put me back on clomid (I told him straight after 3 months on it that I wouldn't take it anymore).
That was before my laparoscopy. I've still got a 3 month supply but honestly just don't see the point in taking it if I ov naturally.

Hope the lunch is pain free Bugs

HesterShaw · 12/03/2014 11:32

It worked twice for one BESH (sadly she mc-ed the first one). Yes it's a good way of seeing how good a responder you are. If time is on your side, I would think about it. And it's FAR less horrid than IVF.

I'm entitled to two more rounds of IUI if I can be arsed if I can face it if I think it's right for me. I can't decide.

cherrycoconut · 12/03/2014 21:08

Gah mothers, don't get me started! Hope today went OK bugs.
How you doing Hest?

I've had a knackering few work days, now collapsed on the sofa with a cuppa, laptop and recorded telly = utter bliss!

Back home though and not a whisper from the FC still. Pfft.

Fankletastic · 13/03/2014 12:36

Thanks Hest. I willbe 35 next week so def feel time is ticking. 2.5 years of my life have already been spent obsessing, worrying, analysing, crying, avoiding friends and their babies/bumps/happy families/perfect lives and generally being a bit of a bitter cow. Not to mention vast sums of money spent on piss sticks and private fertility tests. I realise this could potentially be a small drop in the ocean of shit that is unexplained infertility. Whatever next?!? The not knowing is soo bloody awful.

That's better.

eurochick · 13/03/2014 13:34

I did two rounds of iui. Natural so no drucks involved. They didn't get me duffed but it was something I needed to do to work up to ivf so I wasn't left wondering if something easier could have done the trick.

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 13/03/2014 14:26

I did loads of 7 or 8 rounds of IUI. First 3 natural IUIs, piss easy to handle, no diffment, then SO+IUI, diffed, mc at 7+4, so stuck at IUI far too long for another few rounds. For me it was like euro I needed to work up to IVF slowly. I needed to get very desperate before I could face that, as I get quite bad side effects on all the drucks and DRing particularly.

It incidentally didn't tell me anything about my response on drucks as there was a huge difference between SO, which for me was just with gonal-f (100 units) and LP IVF (DR+150 gonal-f). I have short-ish cycles, so I had runaway follies a lot with IUI, so half of the SO rounds I still had only 1 follie. On LP IVF I got 15 eggs on 1.5 times the dosage. MY AFC had always been good as were my hormone levels. I am now diffed of the first frostie, fresh round gave me a cp.

Going back in time, I would do IUI again, as I needed it, but IVF worked so much better (and just has so much better odds) that I would not have stuck at IUI that long again.

General waves and apols for absence. My phone has died a sudden death so now I have a lot less internet-time :(

MissHobart · 13/03/2014 16:18

Afternoon Hags!

I have nothing to add re IUI I'm afraid but know it's an option, think I'd prefer to go straight to ivf though if it was needed, do you get it on nhs for more than 1 baybee?

Nothing to report, in another wait till droid appears but only 3/4 DPO. Watched two episodes of OBEM this morning and only had a small weep once so that's progress! Hmm

How are the BESH PESH doing? All boring and uneventful I hope! Hence the quietness of the thread at the minute!

I'm currently on day three of the diet and have lost 3 pounds so far which is obviously fat water disappearing! Therefore I am having kfc for dinner! Grin

cherrycoconut · 13/03/2014 22:28

Hear ya fankle, I'm coming up 35 this year too and feeling the pressure. One free round of DEIVF stands between us and financial poverty! T'interweb abounds with heartwarming stories of people who succeeded on their ninth IVF round. But are they living off Tesco basics beans and sitting on tea chests round bare electric light bulbs having sold off all their belongings? How far do you go? That's the scary bit for me.

ROCH and I just watched a recorded OBEM together. He's so squeamish it would be funny if I didn't intend to need him in my own OBEM situation. His presence would definitely be out of duty and under duress!

Fabuluce · 14/03/2014 10:24

Dishy have you made that appointment yet

You young'uns are lucky to get something on the nhs. Disregard anything that NICE says - I don't know of any region that offers ivf up to 42 - my region generously offers 1 round to women between 31-34 after they've been trying for 3 years. Sh'yeah right! Consequently as I was 38 when TWH and I got married and we were barren after a year we went straight to the FC. I did see my GP a couple of times but she refused to talk to me about it (probably thought it was pointless talking to a BESH - evil cowbag) but as timin was of the essence it seemed best to go straight to the specialist and he said we could go through all the tests but that as timing was all we should go straight to ivf so I know nothing about iui I'm afraid. Not that it's got me anywhere. Sigh.

I'm knackered! Have spent all week moving house on my own as TWH has been finishing of the rental property which needed ALOT of work done to it. I've been moving the easy move stuff and hopefully husb will make a start on the furniture this weekend while I'm away Smile I'm off with my two brothers and two sisters for our bi-annual sibling gathering - we all live all over the world so we've been having a gathering every two years to celebrate each of the old gits 50ths as they arrive Grin it's great and we have such a lovely time when we get together - no other halfs, no childers - lots of silliness! And no house move crap - bliss.

Bugs hoe are you doing lovely? Is it your eight or nine week scan coming up? Hope you're not menkulling too much. Flings prawns.

cletterthedishes · 14/03/2014 12:15

Not yet fab. I want to, but I need to change GP's surgery after move and can't do so because just before we moved my insurance company requested a report on an old medical issue. This has to be produced by my old GP surgery, which means until they've done it I can't register anywhere new cos they'll transfer my records and balls it up.

It has taken the insurance company THREE WEEKS to send a fucking cheque to my doctor. And then they sent it to the wrong address, so it may have to be cancelled and re-sent.

Meanwhile I am sitting here with no GP. All I can say is avoid insurance companies whose initals are SP. Useless.

Your gathering sounds lovely. It's great that you all make an effort to stay in touch.

MissHobart · 14/03/2014 18:55

Very quiet at the minute Confused

Wish I had anything to add to get us going again! Hmm

Bugs - is everything ok?
