Many congrats Nicola - what is your due date. Mine is 3 May - come and join the due in May thread - I have but very tentatively!

andi - any news?

Nicola63 · 29/08/2006 21:21

The date would be 7 May. I am scared to move too fast and will hold off a while on joining any pregnancy threads etc. I think I will first wait quietly and see what happens over the next few weeks. I have made an appt with my GP for Friday and am taking my aspirin, vitamins and thyroid tablets. That's all I can do right now.

DH is happy but rather tentative in getting too excited. He's certainly pleased that "a swimmer got through" as he puts it. He's in Scotland and I will only see him again when I fly up there on Friday afternoon.

It's been such a strange day today. It was DH's first day of work in his new job (and the first job he has had in the UK as he had to redo all his professional exams before he was allowed to work here after moving from South Africa to marry me). He's away from home and we are missing each other. I'm on leave this week. I went to the GP this morning to arrange a referral for my next hysteroscopy and have been reading up on ways of boosting spernm count. Then bang, a bfp!! I feel exhausted!

andi0411 · 29/08/2006 21:40

Nicola -i am so happy that after all those trials you have this success- I know it's hard to be happy in the 'normal' way that a woman/ couple should be on finding out this great news . Who can be relaxed and confident after so much heart-ache- I know I won't rest until that baby is in my arms when i get my bfp. But, I hope you can relax and that all the goods things you deserve come to you.

Sky- hi there- thanks for asking I am cd29 of a 28-32 day cycle so i am testing Fri- yes i have a will of steel-NOT!!! although i did test on cd 26 and it was neg-Keep it crossed for me pls ladies!!!

Nicola63 · 29/08/2006 21:43

Good luck to you Andi! I am still thinking that the results are a mistake and not really thinking any further than the next few days.

oinker · 30/08/2006 07:34

Congratulations Nicola....

Fantastic News

rubles · 30/08/2006 07:34

Oh bollocks I can't believe I missed this fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Nicola. Oh babes, you've made me soooo happy. You give us all hope & you really do deserve it.

That sperm test must have been a blip.

Did you have any different sort of symptoms coming up to your AF due date or was it all completely normal?

rubles · 30/08/2006 07:38

Oh, and do hang around on this thread for a while until you feel ready to 'fly the nest'.

Uki · 30/08/2006 08:03

Hi All
Congrats nic
I do think babies happen when we don't expect them, wishing you lots of luck

Andi I know how you feel too, I thought i was feeling better about m/c but then had acouple of sleepless nights and felt sorry for myself, have all sorts of bad luck happening at the mo.

Speaking of depression and all have just found out about CBT through a friend's probs very bad domestic violence also part of the reason i'm down have been trying to help but feel so scared and sad for her, she is in crisis councelling at the mo, but CBT was recommended, she is not a depressive person in most ways but has bottled so much up from childhood (abuse)that has then put her in bad relationships.

Anyway i guess my point is m/c ontop of other pobs is a bit the same it all compounds and gets worse so some turning around type therapy would really help

I'm gald we have this forum to talk about how bad we feel, coz i know my friends and family think i am ok now but the truth is i still need to talk about it.

Looking forward to more positive BFP's

Nicola63 · 30/08/2006 08:10

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all your sincere good wishes. You are such lovely people and have made all the difference to the last few months. It is a strange thing that people who don't know each other at all in real life can still have such sincere concern about each other. I posted here before I even told DH about this (well, he was working and I could not call him till 5pm yesterday!) and it felt very important to let you know. I won't be telling my RL friends or family for weeks yet.

Oh yes rubles, I will still hang around here for a while, don't feel ready to go anywhere yet!

I did notice that my boobs were rather sore but kind of tried to ignore this after everything that was going on and all previous disappointments. The only other symptom was what I thought was AF pains, a sort of stretching feeling in the lower abdomen for the last 2 days.

Despite DH being very cautious about being too enthusaistic about the pregnancy yet, I can tell he is relieved about the "swimmers", whatever happens. Thinking about it, I have been pg three times in the last 18 months, which is not bad going for the valient swimmers at all, given my age. He is most comforted by that.

I do hope there are some more bfp's on this thread soon. You can do it girls! (Try going on holiday to a beautiful hot place and making like bunnies 24/7 is my advice!)

Angsthase · 30/08/2006 09:15

Nicola

So so happy for you. After everything you've gone through you so deserve this BFP - and to think you may have conceived on your birthday It certainly cheered me up today and gives me hope.
Wishing you lots of sticky baby dust x

Uki - sorry you're feeling down luv, feel free to blurge on here. Coming to terms with m/c's is
hard and most of us have ups and downs.

chandellina · 30/08/2006 12:10

Nicola - congrats on your bfp!! awesome. i am hoping some of you ladies might have some advice for me re: fertility doctors. I had my appointment at Guys Hospital yesterday and it was completely unsatisfactory. the consultant dismissed all of my questions and concerns by saying - well you have gotten pregnant before so there is no problem. we have been trying hard for six months since my second miscarriage and no luck. my progesterone level is very low (21 nmol/l), indicating that i may not even be ovulating. for some reason this didn't concern the dr at all. (she said it should be 30-35 but gave no indication how i could get it up and refused to prescribe suppplements.) anyway, i have private health insurance and am desperate to find a more sympathetic ear. does anyone know a good infertility/miscarriage dr in the London area? Nicola - i also wonder how your hypothyroidism was diagnosed? my TSH is 3.78, within normal levels here in the UK but in the US that is considered hypothyroid.

Nicola63 · 30/08/2006 12:26

Thanks chandellina. My hypothyroidism was subclinical (no symptoms), was only picked up on blood tests after my last m/c. The TSH was 5.9. at that time.

My best friend happens to be a consultant endocrinologist who specialises in the thyroid, and I have been pretty much following her advice on this matter: which is to get the TSH between 0.3 and 1 for optimal levals for fertility. Once pregnant, she told me, one may have to increase the level a little. I'm seeing the GP on Friday and will ask him to do a thyroid function test.

I'm feeling utterly utterly anxious but trying to stay calm. Will be off to Scotland on Friday to spend the weekend with DH, just booked the air tickets. I keep thinking I am feeling cramps or pain, but I think this is more anxiety than anything. Sorry to be such a neurotic wreck, please bear with me!

Nicola63 · 30/08/2006 12:27

PS the doctor I went to see at UCH fertility clinic last week was Dr Ozturk and he was lovely.

oinker · 30/08/2006 14:26

Prof. Lesley Reagan at St Marys Paddington.
Check out their web site.

That's where I am.
She is one of the best.

Good luck.

chandellina · 30/08/2006 15:25

thanks nicola and oinker. I did try to get in to Lesley Regan but the first appointment (even as private patient) isn't until jan. 2007 so i thought i'd try elsewhere. re: thyroid - nicola, how have you achieved a lower level, through medication? i am going to my gp today to ask for follow on testing for my thyroid but since the level is within the normal range i'm concerned she won't do anything. i've also heard it should be around 1-2 for conceiving, so mine seems rather high.

LittlePolly · 30/08/2006 15:34

Hi all
Nicola - BIG CONGRATULATIONS to you! That's wonderful news, specially as you were feeling so down about it all just a while back. So pleased for you.

And Oinker well done on the weight loss, that's magnificent.

Thanks for the advice about my depression and ttc. It is so reassuring to be able to come and post on here - it always gives me a different perspective on things which is a massive help, particularly when my head is feeling like a heap of spaghetti and I don;t feel like talking to anyone in RL. You guys are truly wonderful.
I had an assessment for CBT to hopefully help with my depression yesterday and it went pretty well. I'm really really lucky as we've got private cover through DH's job, so I can start the therapy next week. Still haven't come to a decision about taking anti-depressants, though I'm stilll on the St John's wort. Will be due to ov in next couple of days and need to make a decision about whether to go for it this month or not. Anyway, feeling quite a lot better this week as have DH at home.

Love to you all and hugs to anyone who needs them.
xx

Nicola63 · 30/08/2006 15:39

Yes, chandellina, I am on thyroxine tablets.

Littlepolly, glad to hear about the therapy appointment. CBT can be really helpful if you have a therapist you click with.

andi0411 · 30/08/2006 15:46

Hi Nicola (and everyone else)- how're you feeling today?

It's so hard to stay pos after m/c's isn't it- not been able to relax into the pg as so many women do. Hope the week-end cheers you up with your dh.

Nicola63 · 30/08/2006 15:46

PS it is true that some doctors, especially GP's, don't know that the recommended level to try and get the TSH to is lower than they may have been taught is "normal". A TSH of 3 or 4 is considered "normal" by the lab, but it is still desirable to get the level lower for improving fertility (this is the info from my friend the thyroid expert).

I don't know whether it has made a difference to me or not: I did get pregnant twice before going on the thyroid tablets after all! But anything that even may help, I was prepared to try...

Angsthase · 30/08/2006 16:12

Wow Oinker, just re-read down the post and seen your weightloss. That's great.

Nicola - It's inevitable for us to be anxious, but try to enjoy being pg. It's such a precious time.

Littlepolly - glad you're feeling more upbeat and have an early appt.

Chandellina - hope you find the right consultant. I'm under Barts and the Royal for fertility and waiting time for appts there is generally 8 weeks.

rubles · 30/08/2006 17:47

Angsthase, you sound like you are in the same area as me. Can you answer a question for me? Our super-crapola GP surgery don't know where dp is to take his semen sample to. They have some instructions but they are 9 years out of date. they are saying to go to Barts, but we are wondering if it should be the Royal london. Has your dp/dh done this? If so where did he go?
Obviously dp can ring up, but it is taking him a while to get around to it.

Nicola63 · 30/08/2006 18:27

Andi, are you testing tomorrow? Best of luck! I intend to have a very good time with DH this weekend, although Monday morning will be a bit of a thing (have to be at work, in north London, at 9.30 so will be leaving from Edinburgh for Luton on a 6.10am flight!).

oinker · 30/08/2006 21:02

Angsthase.....

CANCEL the weight loss. It appears there is something wrong me scales and the WW diet. I weighed in at a 1lb loss and DH at 3. I am gutted. I won't go on and moan on here am doing that on the weight loss thread...

Good luck to tomorrows testers....

FINGERSCROSSED..

andi0411 · 30/08/2006 22:44

thanks for asking Nicola- think af's here tonight.
Going to have a bit of a break i think- good luck to everyone- our time will come!!!

Uki · 31/08/2006 04:52
