Um hello, newbie, ttc, needing a place to talk to people :)

Fruityb · 05/01/2014 20:23

I've been reading the site for ages but decided to sign up as need an outlet and place to talk as ttc is quite secret and it's not something I have loads of people I could talk about it with. Plus I'm quite shy and my ovaries aren't something to bring up at social gatherings!
I'm 31, came off pill in October and me and boyfriend have been ttc since. I didn't know how long it would take to get back to normal as had been on pill for eleven years. Turns out it took four weeks, and am now on third AF since coming off, so annoyingly normal in one way! I'm getting my head round all this tracking stuff but don't want it all to get clinical with the fella as it takes the fun away!
So just wanted to say hi and hopefully share in people's stories. It's not all as straightforward as I always thought, and I'm always the one that would start panicking something was wrong with me. I'm pleased I found somewhere I can just write it down if nothing else.
So, hi, and hopefully can take some good advice away.

Lady they are a scary place. I am on one but try to miss reading the bad posts!

We have told everyone. Just got too excited. We told work when I went in for an early scan at 6 weeks. I had cramping and bleeding which I freaked out about esp when the GP sent me to hospital by ambulance! All ok and a tiny heartbeat Smile.

Its good everyone knows for us as we are so far away from family. Today I am staying in bed my sickness has got so bad cant make it to work. 8+5 booking in tomorrow and scan on 27th!

KikiThePea · 04/03/2014 09:19

Morning!

I still can't go on the pregnancy threads - it's like symptom spotting but even worse as every tiny little twinge can be construed as something terrible. Don't get me wrong, it's brilliant that people are so aware of the problems of pregnancy, but the threads can be a really disheartening place too - plus I find I like it here as I feel as though there is a nice number of us. Some of the pregnancy threads are huge!

I've got my scan booked for 14th, so only a week on Friday.

The trip in the ambulance sounds awful, binky - sorry you had to go through that, but how wonderful to hear the heartbeat!

Lady - I know exactly how you feel, because I still feel the same way. One minute I'm thrilled to be talking about September and the wonderful things we can do, and the next (usually at 3am when I'm wide awake and DH is sleeping soundly) freaking out about all manner of terrible pregnancy-related problems. For example, a couple of weeks ago my leg started inexplicably hurting - thinking about now we reckon it's probably down to the way ligaments slacken and I twisted it slightly making a sleepy bathroom trip in the middle of the night- but initially I was freaking out about what it could be. I have a habit of reading anything and everything I can get my hands on about a subject so that I feel as prepared as possible, but with pregnancy it just gives rise to a whole host of awful ideas of things that could happen; and of course at 3am they feel much more like they will happen, than just could. I think I was more rational about it for a couple of weeks in the middle there, but as the scan gets closer the excitement has been tempered slightly by fear.

I'm hoping that when we've had the scan and, fingers crossed, I've seen that things look okay I'll worry less (for a little while!) - my mum and mother in law have both said that they felt exactly the same way, and the confirmation that people really have been through this before (if it wasn't obvious...) actually does help!

Good to hear from everyone! Ive no idea where I am-from ov its about 2.5 weeks but doc says 4 weeks. Its strange how they work it out. Nausea seems to have settled down-had it for the last week. That's the main reason I poas at just 2 days late. I said to dh I'd cope better if it was for a good reason. Midwife on 1st April. Its hard not to say anything. They're planning events at work which I won't be able to do but I can't tell them!!

misskgb · 04/03/2014 17:21

Oh-and I really don't like the look of any of the pregnancy threads!!

Lolly84 · 05/03/2014 18:43

Just about to hit the ovulation window. Using opk's for the first time, not had a smiley face but I am sure I will in the next couple of days. Fingers crossed ladies, hope my hubby knows what he is in for hahaha x

binkybunny · 05/03/2014 18:57

Hi all how are the newly pregnant ladies doing? Has it sunk in yet?

I had my booking in apt today so its feels v real now. Just wishing this sickness and nausea away so I can start to get excited!

kiki also having fridge related gagging which has spread to the entire kitchen. Not v practical! I keep getting little excited moments but more terrified ones and just too tired and ill to think that far ahead.

Lolly84 · 05/03/2014 19:08

Oh pregnant ladies now there are many more of you. Do you have any advice/tips for us ttcers? X

binkybunny · 05/03/2014 19:26

lolly enjoy not feeling sick while you can! Also... I laid with my legs in the air after dtd for about 15 mins not v romantic but I got the result Grin

weebairn · 05/03/2014 20:17

Lolly I go with regular sex for the whole cycle; I am dubious about the accuracy of knowing when you ovulate! But I also like regular sex ;)

My first pregnancy they dated me a whole week earlier than I thought, which meant I must have ovulated on CD7!

Lolly84 · 05/03/2014 21:35

Thanks ladies just realised through a bit if research I have calculated my ov dates wrong. Thought they have been earlier than they actually have. So going to continue to dtd throughout month as usually stop after I think i have ovulated. I know I sound stupid lol but wanted to share xx

Ladymillion · 06/03/2014 05:46

Good luck lolly, I didn't do anything special, the day I got my positive opk we DTD that night and then for the following 3 days we DTD once a day (my positive opk was positive for 3 days; went negative on the evening of the 3rd day, I don't know what that means really in terms of what day I actually ovulated). For the 4 days previous to that positive opk we never DTD at all as I thought I was out for that month!

Ladymillion · 06/03/2014 05:54

Binky it hasn't really sunk in yet (despite the constant cramping!), I'm finding it hard to believe that all of that amazing conception stuff that I've been reading about for months is actually happening in there! Its such a strange feeling and it always on my mind! Wish I could fast forward to 12 weeks, this is soooo scary Shock

I could never have imagined the anxiety would get worse after the BFP haha!

By the way when should I phone my doctors? How many weeks? I'm only 2 weeks since conception but my last AF was 17th Jan! Ovulated reeeeaaally late

binkybunny · 06/03/2014 06:49

I called my doctors on the monday after bfp and they got me in that day. He was a bit useless though and looked a bit like he wasnt sure what to do! He gave me a pack with my maternity notes, folic acid and asked if I knew to stop drinking then booked me in for my booking in apt.

I'm in Scotland though and it does seem different here to places like London. From the pregnancy thread I think a lot of people self refered to the midwife and havent seen anyone yet!

If you want to see someone just make a normal apt with your Dr.

weebairn · 06/03/2014 07:54

Ladymillion - congrats!! :) :) Call your surgery and tell them you're pregnant, they'll either make you a doctor's appt or tell you to call the midwife directly, it varies from area to area.

I called about 6 weeks but any time from now is fine!

mrshjb · 06/03/2014 07:57

Hey everyone. Been having a quick check through all your messages and glad you're all ok, apart from the slight pregnancy anxiety- which I'm sure I would get too.

No time for a long message, but having a good time on holiday. Unfortunately the sea air doesn't seem to be hurrying AF up. Think I'm coming up to cd50... wooohooo....!

Hoping to be able to get blood test results tomorrow. Speak soon :)

Lolly84 · 06/03/2014 10:08

Thanks ladies v.useful xx

misskgb · 06/03/2014 10:53

Hi all. Lolly- I just dtd regularly during the last cycle and where possible tried to put a pillow under my pelvis for about 10 minutes afterwards. This dh noticed once but didn't even bother asking what I was doing! I decided last month to have a few drinks too having not had anything between OV and AF for the last 2 months and that didn't prevent anything so maybe i was just more relaxed??

Had bad nausea for 4 days prior to poas and seems to have disappeared so it's strange that now I know I'm pg, I actually feel less pg than before I got my bfp!! Have cried at least 4 times in the last 2 days but think that's because my car has broken and I'm worrying about money, but need to get over it and remember how much we wanted this to happen (the pg, not the broken car!)

Lady- my docs have open surgery in the morning so i just rocked up there the day after poas and even though i was only 3-4 weeks, the doc was great. Checked a couple of things with me but in and out in 5 mins. Got appt with midwife for when I'm about 8 weeks. Had to move things around at work for it without telling anyone. It's so hard not to say anything!!

KikiThePea · 06/03/2014 11:55

Lady - I called the gp really early because I was going on holiday. 5 minute appointment with a lovely doctor who registered me with the hospital, arranged my scan and filled in the prescription exemption form so I don't have to pay for prescriptions until September 2015. I made my booking appointment with the midwife before I left the surgery (glad I did as I've been told they can fill up fast!) - I saw her at just over 7 weeks as they like to do it as close to 8 weeks as possible around here.
To be honest I don't think there's anything wrong with calling too early - all it means is that it will seem like a much longer wait between things happening!

Binky - the fridge related gagging has also been general kitchen gagging so I really do feel your pain! I'm really looking forward to this bit being over. Although my parents arrived yesterday for a visit and I'm currently being told 'not to do anything!!' as they will sort it out. It's quite lovely actually - not least because I can ask someone else to get things out of the fridge during the day whilst dh is at work...

Helen - I hope you're having a lovely time away!

Ladymillion · 06/03/2014 20:21

Thanks weebairn! Blush

And thanks for all of the advice everyone, I'll give the surgery a ring next week at some point.

A couple of my friends who are also pregnant know and I'm gonna tell my brother tomorrow, other than that I'll keep quiet and lay low for a bit. Fingers crossed I get through these risky weeks quickety quick

Hi Helen, enjoy the rest of your break and we look forward to hearing about what you've been up to on your return! Wink

Lolly84 · 07/03/2014 13:32

Still no smiley face on my opk!! I have got this whole ovulation prediction wrong no wonder I am not blooming pg. Normally I would have thought I would have ovulated. How wrong have I been!! I would recommend all ttcers use opk's if finding it confusing.

looking forward to a wee night away tomorrow with hubby.

Have a great weekend ladies x

mrshjb · 07/03/2014 15:46

Hey everyone, back home unfortunately! Had a lovely time away and it was a really good distraction for me! Now I'm back I'm feeling a bit down again really. Cd50 today and no sign of AF. Phoned the doctors yesterday and was told that all my test results had come back negative- they tested me for thyroid problems and some other basic hormone tests I think. I'm kind of wondering whether those kind of hormone tests were pointless because everything I've read seems to be saying you need twice monthly tests to determine if there is anything wrong with your hormones. I am wondering if I am going to skip a period and AF will next show up when I expected the second one to come. Haven't had any OV symptoms since the ones at the start of the cycle though. Anyways hope my whining hasn't dampened the mood. Hope you're all well and looking forward to the weekend :)

Lolly84 · 07/03/2014 16:51

Hey Helen, sorry to hear about your confusing and frustrating confusion. Sounds like you may have missed a period. This happens sometimes doesn't it. I have had the opposite and had two periods before. Are you using opk's? This may help you know if your ovulating? X

Lolly84 · 07/03/2014 16:51

*instead of the 2nd confusion I meant situation d'oh

YoniLive0nce · 07/03/2014 18:10

Hi everyone, i know the thread is almost full but can I join in? We've just decided to ttc 1st baby end of the month. I'm starting folic acid tomorrow & buying some ovulation sticks but as I have pcos I'm not sure how effective it'll be. Exciting though!! :-)

Lolly84 · 07/03/2014 18:55

Hi Yoni, not full at all. Congrats on deciding to ttc, welcome to the crazy world of ttc. Full of ups and downs. I'm on cycle 3 and as you can see have got ov dates all wrong which is not helpful when ttc. I've heard opk's aren't great when you have pcos x
