Hey all - hope you're all ok. Congrats to duggs and arianhod.

I haven't posted for a while as have been having worries. I know some of the ladies on here may have some advice on here for me and if not would be interested for any advice from anyone who has experienced this or know someone who has??

Basically I have had several tests for Utis and all have been negative.

Over the past few days I have noticed a very slight dampness in my knickers (tmi) and after investigation on my part I THINK it's urine. I need to go constantly and always drip after going. Still tho I am worried so went to the doctors who did a speculum investigation and took a swab and also sent another urine sample. All results should be back Tuesday. He said he didn't notice anything untoward.

I also had another private scan on Wednesday as I have been so worried and the amniotic fluid all looks in tact and correct amount.

So am I incontinent now? All I am reading bout Online is horror stories and I am getting my self in a right old tizz.

Reason I think it's urine is cos I need to go to the toilet a lot and can go, then get up and the need to go again. When I wake up in the morning I don't have any leaks when i stand up, surely if this was fluid it would pool and leak out when I stand?

Does anyone know or know of anyone in a similar situation? All my friends that know of my pregnancy have apparently never had this. I'm just constantly worrying. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am 17 weeks today and came off the pred at 14.5 weeks. X

VillageMum · 04/04/2014 18:50

Tum I had amniotic fluid leaking out when I was pregnant with DD, round about week 37. I thought it was urine at first, but it was colourless and smelt faintly like ammonia, which made me suspicious. After a week of investigations (including a scan which showed that my waters didn't seem to be depleted) it was confirmed to be amniotic fluid, and I was induced at 38 weeks because of the infection risk. Confirmation that it was amniotic fluid and not wee came when a very experienced hospital midwife finally made me lie down to see if anything pooled while I was horizontal - it did. I'd already noticed this in the mornings when I woke up - there was always a fair amount there. If your dampness smells like wee and is yellowish (even very pale yellow - at 17 weeks you're probably thirsty and drinking loads of water which will dilute your wee) and you don't have pooling in the morning, then that's a good sign, I'd say. Don't panic, just keep an eye on it! You're doing all you can. Best of luck for the results on Tuesday x

mattsmama · 04/04/2014 20:57

Hi TUM - I had this happen and when I told my midwife she said the smell is a good indicator. TMI alert but she said that amniotic fluid has a distinct smell - similar to semen.

Hope all your results are ok and try not to worry (easier said than done I know!!) x

MrsPixieMoo · 04/04/2014 21:11

Nothing to add Tum, just wishing you luck for your scan and hoping it's all good news.

VillageMum · 05/04/2014 13:28

Tum just to second what mattsmama said - the smell is quite distinctive: ammoniac or a bit like almonds (does semen smell like that?? I've never checked! Blush)

Tumtimes1 · 05/04/2014 14:00

Thanks for all comments.

Most of the time I think urine and other times I have a wobble and think amniotic water. End of the day I suppose there isn't much that can be done even if it is amniotic fluid. Would be great if they had like a litmus test strip thing they could do tho.... X

VillageMum · 06/04/2014 13:41

Tum if you remain at all worried, go to your local pregnancy unit and get them to check for pooling with a speculum after you've been lying down for half an hour. Or show your midwife a pad with the dampness on and get her to sniff it! (I did!) Does sound like urine though. Hope your worries soon pass.

Tumtimes1 · 06/04/2014 16:09

Thanks Village. I actually called the midwife community number when I was first worried about it and their help was to say, I could go to A&E. I couldn't believe it and still feel awful as to how I Was treated by them. My doctor was a lot nicer x

duggs1976 · 06/04/2014 16:21

How remarkable when a midwife's who "purpose of being" is to help pregnant women so asking about potential amniotic fluid seems pretty as close to a pregnancy specific question as one could ask...... Astounding!!

Tumtimes1 · 09/04/2014 13:42

Hey all - just a little update on the leaking issue. Basically my urine sample came back normal (HOW) and my swab came back I have thrush. However I don't have the usual symptoms (thick discharge) but thin and watery. Apparently that can be a symptom of thursh too. Anyone else had that?

mattsmama · 09/04/2014 15:54

Tum - that's a relief for you and I didn't know thrush could be like that (learn something everyday - especially on this thread lol).

Also just seen your comment regarding asking midwife for advice and her saying you could go to A and E. aaaargh. How bloody infuriating!

I am officially in yet another 2 ww - give me strength!!

Tumtimes1 · 09/04/2014 17:11

Hmmm well I just called the midwife back for an understanding of their general procedures as I was quite upset about how I was treated last week. Anyway the midwife I spoke to has now sent me into A&E says it's urgent I get a scan. More worry. Just waiting now to see someone will keep you updated. At least she seemed to care and has called ahead for me. Will keep u posted, am there now and told the wait is 1 hour so not too bad.

mattsmama · 09/04/2014 17:31

Fingers crossed for you Tum - at least they are being thorough and making sure. Try not to worry - I an sure everything will be fine. I know however that is easier said than done! Scans are so nerve wracking - don't think I have ever had one where I haven't been anxious. Do let us know how you get on - xx

Mel3062 · 10/04/2014 01:56

Tum hope alls well x

VillageMum · 10/04/2014 08:39

Tum thinking of you. Glad the midwife is being so thorough. Yes, I've had watery thrush before. Hope your scan is all good news xx

Tumtimes1 · 10/04/2014 10:32

Hey all thanks so much for your comments all.

I have just come back from having a scan and all was fine with the fluid apparently. The baby was swimming about in it and seemed alright, also she has grown to normal amounts. I had an internal check yesterday and the cough test and she checked my cervix, closed and no pooling of fluid. Although she did note that the discharge in there was watery.
I also had blood tests to check for infection and all normal. So i think the liquid is either urine or thrush. Hopefully after day three of the pesseries it should be gone.

What a drama.

Mattsmama good luck with this TWW.
Village good to know someone else had watery thrush I feel like everyone else has had the usual thick discharge one. I have seen online that watery can be thrush symptoms too though.

TheRealYellowWiggle · 10/04/2014 15:52

Tum very pleased to see your update Smile
When I have used pessaries for thrush when pg, I had very small amounts of spotting after, which the doctors I rushed too said could happen. Maybe it irritated my skin in some way. I mention this only so that if it happened to you you won't panic.

Mel3062 · 10/04/2014 15:54

Wonderful news Tum :)
Well Ff detected ovulation day 25 I'm on day 28 now with af supposedly tomorrow.

Great news Tum and I hope a huge relief for you.

Thanks for the update Duggs - it's so nice to have positive stories on the thread.

Got a BFN again today (day 25) which am gutted about but not surprised. Think DH had an epiphany this morning as he was sure it would be positive. Had to remind him that we actual have to do TDD for things to work - Hmm. Hopefully more luck on the next cycle.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend xx

LunaGL · 11/04/2014 13:53

Hi Team crossed posts.

All well with me thanks. Can't believe you're at 19 weeks already - such great news. I wish there was a way that you could enjoy the pregnancy but completely understand the daily fear you're experiencing. I suspect that I may be the same if I ever manage to get that far.

Have a great weekend xx

freelancegirl · 11/04/2014 14:53

Such good news everyone! So pleased to hear. Duggs, do you have any more scans with Mr S scheduled or are you released of his care now? I've forgotten when I saw him until. But a good nuchal must be such a relief for you!

duggs1976 · 12/04/2014 09:43

My scan yesterday was nhs nuchal one, next one Tuesday at fetal medical centre with harmony results. I'm supposed to have 16 wk scan with dr S. I do think I got a good embryo this time and out of my 6 previous losses 2 were proven bad embryos and the other 2 were probably bad as well as was on pred treatment and 2 were chemicals so who knows. That isn't to say I would be brave enough to not take pred if I ever TTC again but with this one I wasn't on anything for first few weeks. I hope it helps those struggling as it does seem to be a luck/ numbers game for some of us where the immune side doesn't seem to be the quick fix we expected it to be!
