Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Thanks Taydex for sharing your experience and linking the study again (which I do remember reading from when Kwick posted it).

I'm on tenterhooks waiting for my LH surge. I've gone from having a moderate line (but definitely not positive) on the test to only a really faint line, but I'm managing not to panic as this has happened previous months and then I've had my surge the following day.

Kwick709 · 27/02/2016 18:13

Lovely ladies I am all needles and syringes sorted :) I contacted 111 and an out of hours Dr told me to go to a local pharmacy - they had what I needed except the needles that actually pierce my skin are larger so will hurt more Hmm

I am feeling quite tired but have had a lovely time with my mum and nephew - my mum is gojng replant my terrace and we went plant shopping eralier. We are having a sleepover tonight Grin

shoes I hope you get your surge :) are you then doing IUI?

INeedNewShoes · 27/02/2016 19:36

Yep, hopefully IUI Attempt 2.

I'm getting paranoid that I've missed my LH surge and then what I'll see is the post-ovulation surge if I get a positive OPK. Although if that's the case it would mean I got the positive OPK two days earlier in my cycle than previous months.

I'm wondering about asking the clinic to do an ultrasound when I arrive on Monday to check the status of my eggs and check I haven't already ovulated...

INeedNewShoes · 27/02/2016 19:37

Should have also said, Kwick that I'm so pleased you got the syringes. The bigger needle won't matter if you think of the purpose of the pain!

taydex · 27/02/2016 19:54

Evening ladies. Any news from anyone? Nothing exciting here. Might be going to see the old folk tomorrow. Not mother's day but hey ho. Clinic trip went fine. Nurse told me they don't do a blood test because they trust the results on the strips. Good job I did lots of strips, enough to convince myself it really is a positive! Might get in touch with the GP see what they do when you say you're up-duffed. Other than that I just collected another box of Crinone, so that's me sorted for another 15 days. Next appt is the scan on 11 March.

INeedNewShoes · 27/02/2016 20:16

Taydex - it's worth going to your GP fairly soon as you want to have your choice of hospitals! I know my maternity unit of choice say to get booked in as soon as you know you're pregnant because they get booked up quite soon.

Even aside from that, there's no harm in going to see your GP.

pickle162 · 27/02/2016 20:27

Yeh worth going to gp so you are referred to midwifes, you get a pack and they give you a form to fill out so you get your 12week scan booked
They don't do a blood test either or urine test as they use the same testing strips now (found all of this out from my friend who is 8 weeks pregnant)

Glad u got ur needles/syringes :) x

CautionHormone · 27/02/2016 21:09

taydex, invite yourself! They wouldn't mind, would they? Especially not with your news (if you're going to tell them?)!
Ah bless you, will be thinking of you on the 10th.

ineednewshoes fingers crossed on you getting your LH surge soon. It must be a right pain in the ass waiting for it.. Oh I can't wait til it's my turn! Blush. Good luck with your IUI if we don't speak before Smile.

Glad you managed to get your syringes kwick, even if they are bigger Blush.

Mum's been bad again today... Oh what I would give to take her pain away!

taydex · 27/02/2016 21:51

Eugh, my phone is useless and didn't update this with your messages before I wrote my last one. One day I will learn to use technology!

Really glad you managed to get hold of more syringes and needles Kwik. Awh, your Mum sounds lovely - I wish someone would come and fix my garden, it's not had much love and attention recently.

Shoes - Have you got the ClearBlue ovulation tests? I'd recommend picking some up if you haven't. I've had all sorts of issues with the OneStep ones if you're using those. The 1 time out of 5 I used ClearBlue instead (OK, as well) is the only time I got a +ve pregnancy test result. Worth a try. I think the ones I got were £30 a pack, but when you think of it in the whole scheme of things and the price we're having to pay for IUI it's peanuts. Please try and remain relaxed and positive if you can. I'd be tempted to ask the clinic to do an ultrasound just to check - can't harm, surely?

Thanks for the advice re GP. I will give them a call on Monday morning and see when I can get an appointment. I guess I can do this with the nurse so might not be the usual wait. If I'm having issues getting an appt this week I will possibly tell them I have some concerns... he he. I'm so bad. I hadn't considered that my hospital of choice might get all booked up! Eek! And I don't really want the nearest hospital to me... I think getting the pack from the GP will make it all seem a bit more real. Weird, when we went to the clinic today the sun was shining and the place looked beautiful. Felt like a bit of a sign.

Pickle - Thanks for the tip re GP. I had just assumed that someone somewhere would want to do a test of some kind just to make sure...

Caution - Very tempted to invite myself. I have been chatting to my Mum (albeit mostly by text of facebook chat) today and suggested I could come to see them tomorrow if they are unable mother's day weekend. Apparently I now have to call my sister to see if we can sort something for all of us for the weekend after (it's also Dad's 65th birthday that weekend so be nice to do something all together). I think we're finally getting somewhere. I might invite them all here next weekend. Means a house full with 4 extra adults and 3 kids under 10 (not counting us 2 and our 2 dogs)! Kids can sleep in drawers/cupboards, right? It does mean I would get to tell them our news all together. I hope your Mum has a better night and day tomorrow.

TD x

INeedNewShoes · 27/02/2016 22:07

I have got the ClearBlue tests as well. I used them the last two months to confirm the positive OneStep tests, but I have to admit to managing to eke one 10 pack of the ClearBlues over three months.

Generally I'm happy with the OneStep tests, but if the test line is on the borderline of positive or not then it's helpful to confirm with a ClearBlue.

Kwick709 · 27/02/2016 22:33

taydex I hope you can get family reunion together :) someone could sleep in the bath pethaps? Wink

I am surprised your clinic is not doing a blood test - mine say they do this to check prog levels and determine if need to prescribe anything else.

shoes fingers crossed for the IUI. Definitely ask for a scan - although they cannot always tell if you have ovulated. Are you having bloods done - cant they check lh that way?

The minute I am upduffed I will go to GP - from where I am there are 2 hospitals - Whittington and UCH - definitely would prefer UCH!

Have had so much milk today I may start chewing the cud! Oh and the needles were not too painful - phew!

CautionHormone · 27/02/2016 22:49

taydex, I'd invite myself too! It's a shame you don't get to see her on Mother's Day. Having them at yours sounds like a good idea too - sounds like it'd be really fun - it's just sleeping them that's the problem I guess?! You're right, kids can sleep in draws and cupboards! 😂
Thank you lovely, she's seems alright at the minute - still in bed though!

Glad the needles weren't too painful kwick...!

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 15:13

Hi Smile Is this thread for anyone doing IUI, or is it exclusively for those undertaking donor IUI? Flowers

Kwick709 · 28/02/2016 15:42

Hi booboo - you are most welcome to the thread Grin

It started for those doing donor IUI but really just a thread for those thinking about or doing IUI or IVF.

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 16:13

Oh yay! Thank you for the warm welcome Flowers. I was feeling rather alone tbh. No one truly understands the journey, unless they have gone through it themselves. We have secondary infertility issues, that is unexplained. We are due to start our IUI cycle at the end of March. My AF is due March 23rd, & I'm feeling a bit scared by all the meds!

INeedNewShoes · 28/02/2016 16:21

Welcome to the thread Booboo

I'm no help on medicated IUI, as I'm trying unmedicated first, but there are others lurking here who are bound to be able to offer support re the meds. And, who knows, if my 2nd IUI attempt doesn't work I may well be on the medicated IUI path for the following cycle.

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 16:34

Thank you Ineednewshoes Flowers Good luck! When are you having IUI done? I have to inject myself with a puregon pen (FSH) even though I ovulate & then take a trigger shot when instructed. I guess it is just all new to me, so it's quiet daunting! Hmm

Kwick709 · 28/02/2016 16:38

booboo do you know what your meds will be? I did a medicated IUI and I am now on a medicated IVF - different drugs though.

I watched Oprah (gotta love her) and her talk about the power of "I am"... So here goes:
I am growing lots of lovely follicles
I am going to have lots of lovely eggs collected
I am going to have lots of strong and healthy embryos
I am going to be pregnant very soon
I am going to be relaxed and glowing during my pregnancy
Grin

INeedNewShoes · 28/02/2016 17:05

Well, I'm literally right this minute distracting myself for 2 minutes while I wait for my OPK stick to develop. IUI No. 2 might be tomorrow if I get my LH surge.

I feel the need to say Aaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh! The tenterhooksability of waiting for LH surge is really quite trying.

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 17:32

That is beautiful Kwick!! I am going to adopt such a mantra too Smile. Good luck with your IVF cycle! My meds are pregnyl & puregon. I am supposed to start the puregon cd2. I must read back and get up to date with everyone.

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 18:21

Oh how exciting INeedNewShoes! What was the result?? I was thinking about using OPK's too, as I don't know how my body is going to react to the meds & I am scared that we will miss ovulation!

taydex · 28/02/2016 18:48

Hi BooBoo. Welcome to the thread. Nice to see you. I did 4 rounds of IUI with medication. I had Gonal F self administered injection (FSH) from day 3 till day surge was detected. Followed by Ovitrelle ovulation self administered injection (trigger) on the day of the surge. Let me know if you have any questions. I know it's different drugs but I imagine they probably do the same thing, just different trade names. I can take a look but on my phone right now so it's a pain.

Others - I am currently at my parents Smile. Have told them our news (yes, I know, it's still early days...). They are very happy. Definitely cheered Mum up after a sh*tty few weeks for them.

Kwik - I love that mantra. I'm definitely going to steal that with pride!

Shoes - What was the result of the OPK test?

TD x

taydex · 28/02/2016 18:52

BooBoo I would highly recommend buying a ClearBlue ovulation test to use alongside the OneStep or whatever strips the clinic give you. I had concerns that we were missing ovulation and the ladies on here suggested that and we hit ovulation this last cycle Smile It did cost about £30 but we'll worth it I'd say, considering what else you're likely to be paying.

Kwick709 · 28/02/2016 19:57

boohoo sometimes the drugs interfere with the LH surge testing - so you may want to check with your clinic. Are they monitoring you with scans and bloods?

Taydex I am so pleased you have told your parents - such lovely news!

shoes come on - don't leave us in suspenders!!!!

INeedNewShoes · 28/02/2016 20:09

The line was about 80% there compared to the control (not enough - it needs to be at least 100% the darkness of the control line).

Just done another one (cos I was dying for another wee - unfortunate given that they say it's best to not wee for four hours before testing) and after five minutes it's maybe 85%.

I've only got two ClearBlue left - not sure whether to use one of them now.

Pants. I feel like I've messed this up. My flight is booked for 7:30 in the morning and I really thought I'd have the LH surge by now. Do I get on the plane and assume that I'll get the surge at some point tomorrow? I think I may as well...

This is the one downside of going abroad.
