Donor IUI?

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Donor IUI?
INeedNewShoes · 26/02/2016 09:33

Kwick - it's difficult to keep calm and in a positive frame of mind when there's so much going on, isn't it? The only thing I've found that works for me is to take a few long breaths when I feel myself getting anxious about things (or wanting to deck colleagues - yep, we've all been there). Good luck with your next step in your treatment.

Taydex - I should ovulate on Monday or Tuesday but I don't know if the chemical pregnancy will have made my cycle go skewy. I've taken a bit of a risk and booked flights and a hotel to be in Denmark Monday to Wednesday and I'm just crossing my fingers that during that time I get my LH surge and am there in the right window for IUI.

My positivity is being dented by a nasty sore throat, so now I'm worrying that this is going to develop into some horrid virus just at the right time to coincide with IUI. On top of that I have a major freelance work event this evening, which I want to enjoy but the pressure is a bit much :/ and with my employed job I have had an awful week being completely overwhelmed by my workload and got very stressed out about it. I've had very stern words with myself about putting the baby plan first and that I must learn to keep calm whatever ridiculousness is going on around me.

It feels good to type my tale of woe out - sorry that I've dumped all my thoughts here!

INeedNewShoes · 26/02/2016 09:34

Ooh that's a lovely BFP! Something for us all to aspire to :)

INeedNewShoes · 26/02/2016 09:45

Sorry, me again!

Taydex how many hours after you got your LH surge did you have your IUI?

taydex · 26/02/2016 10:38

Hey NewShoes (incidentally I am wearing a pair of new shoes today...),

Fingers crossed the timings work fine for you. Do you have ClearBlue type ovulation tests? I found the OneStep ones that the clinic gave me where not great. Didn't realise you were having your treatment in Denmark, but I have heard of several people who've done this and had success.

I also got a bad cold during one of my cycles. The clinic claimed it wouldn't make any difference, just a pain because you're limited on what medication you can take. Stick to just paracetamol and be brave. Hopefully it won't get any worse.

Timing wise I was never sure my clinic worked to my best interests. They seem to priotise IVF over IUI. Their standard timings are you do the wee test in the morning, if it's successful you then inject Ovitrelle at 6pm the same evening, and have the IUI procedure 2 days later, in the afternoon. So if you got the positive test on the Monday morning, you'd do the trigger injection on the Monday evening and have the IUI on the Wednesday evening. I did a lot of reading round as I was not convinced by this timing and should be sooner than that. Many people have the IUI the day after the +ve test and have success. I may have lied to my clinic to get what I wanted. I had the +ve test on Wednesday lunchtime ish (found info online that says best time to test is between 11 and 3, not the 2nd wee of the day like the clinic told me), then told the clinic I had to have the IUI procedure on the Friday morning as I had a very important work meeting in the afternoon. I'll dig out the paper on the timings, I found it helpful.

Hi NewShoes,

This is the article that I was talking about:
humrep.oxfordjournals.org/content/20/9/2542.full.pdf
Kwik posted it on here some time back.

Seems to say that IUI works best 24-42 hours after LH surge (but then it does go on to say "Our study suggested... insemination at any time between 18 and 53 h after the onset of the surge will produce optimal results.") Probably best if you take a read and determine yourself in case I've read something wrong.

I based the timings I demanded from my clinic on this, and it seems to have worked. Normally I'd say go with what the clinic recommend but I'm not sure my clinic had my best interests at heart (didn't seem to be doing IUI at the optimal time) so up to you really...

taydex what a lovely line! It's almost as dark as the control line now... I'm still so excited for you!!!

I should have my car back tomorrow, hurrah! I've been without it for a while now... I'm going to book into the doctors on Monday about my periods - I thought I might've had a proper one after being on 1.5 days but seems not. When I went in November, they said if it's not right in March to go back. It'll be the 29th Feb, but technically that day shouldn't be there so it doesn't matter Wink x

CautionHormone · 26/02/2016 12:47

Have you had your scan yet kwick? X

Kwick709 · 26/02/2016 12:54

Just at the clinic now caution

Beautiful bfp taydex

shoes best of luck with Denmark trip. Try and stay calm (do as I say not as I do). I am going to try some sanskrit chanting....

Kwick709 · 26/02/2016 13:06

Just had scan - 3 follicles, one dominant at 9mm

taydex · 26/02/2016 13:17

Yay! That sounds good to me Kwik - you've clearly been putting some effort in to that Smile

Kwick709 · 26/02/2016 13:20

Just checked back to my medicated iui cycle on menopur and by day 9 I was in a better position...WTF???? Envy

taydex · 26/02/2016 15:49

Kwik - The most recent cycle I did for IUI I had smaller, fewer, and slower growing follicles than previous cycles. I know IUI and IVF are different, but don't forget... you only need 1 to work. Chin up sweetie. Flowers

taydex · 26/02/2016 16:19

Quick update from clinic. It would appear I can't count. The scan is 35-45 days from IUI, and not 35-45 days from day 1 of your last period. I did think it was pretty early! So I'm booked in for scan on 11 March which is day 35. Eek! Smile

Kwick709 · 26/02/2016 17:56

This counting malarkey is very confusing!!!!

My clinic have not rung to tell me about meds and scan.. I have one booked for tomorrow but do not see point in going in again so soon Envy. I have tried calling them to no avail... For the LOVE of God!!!!

I have decided to seek comfort in retail therapy (the body shop here I come!) and food (deliveroo).

taydex · 26/02/2016 18:54

I wanted to punch everyone / cry at work today as people were just being idiots/getting on my t*ts (possibly at least partially magnified by hormones, he he!). Came home to find out my aunt has passed (she's been very ill so it was expected). Where's wine when you need it?!

Still, I suppose as the cast of the Lion King once said (sang)... that's the circle of life.

taydex · 26/02/2016 19:41

Ooh, retail therapy... now there's an idea...

Kwick709 · 26/02/2016 19:52

Really sorry to hear about your Aunt taydex

I am really pissed off... With myself and Healthcare at Home. I was just checking my syringe and needle supply and realise they have only give me enough for one more day of injections.... I cannot even make it through the weekend....what am I supposed to do? Amazon prime will not get here until Monday... Can I just go to Boots and buy more?

I am so angry as I should have noticed this before but I assumed they give you the right amount for treatment plan! I guess I will need to SOS the clinic... And I got told finally that I did not need to go in to tomorrow!!

taydex · 26/02/2016 20:58

Thanks Kwik

Oh, what a pain in the bum! Hopefully Boots or your clinic will be able to get your some more drug. Fingers crossed you will be able to get some. Will you be able to continue this cycle with 1 missed day?

Just spoke to my Mum to see if she's OK and she tells me my sister is giving all of her baby stuff to my cousin! Hmm, sulking now. My sister knew we were trying (although not a massive amount of detail). My Mum doesn't know yet. I want to tell them in person and not over the phone. Oh, and Mum also said we can't go visit for mother's day (also Dad's birthday weekend) as they'll be visiting my sister (who they saw last week, I've not seen them for ages). Proper sulky bunny here.

Kwick709 · 26/02/2016 21:36

Have a good sulk taydex - I would too!

It is not the meds just the syringes and needles I have run out of... Not sure I will be able to procure from pharmacist but will try first thing... i did so want a lie in :(

Just stuffed my face with jerk chicken, fried plantain, rice and peas and carrott cake.... slimming world will not be happy but it did my soul good! Also spicey food is good right for blood flow? Now moving on to warm milk.

CautionHormone · 26/02/2016 21:40

Oh kwick - it doesn't sound like you're having an easy time at the moment, bless your heart :( try and keep a positive head though. Positive thinking can do wonders. It's what's helped me through being stable for years!

taydex I'm really sorry to hear about your aunt :( the only solace is that she's not suffering anymore. Big hugs. Flowers
Yeah I agree with kwick - have a good sulk!! It's a shame you can't see your Mum on Mother's Day, or your Dad on his birthday :( is there no way you could go to your sisters instead?? X

taydex · 26/02/2016 22:34

Oh well that sounds a bit easier to get hold of Kwik Soul food is always good, don't worry. As Caution says, try to stay positive.

Yeah, I could go to my sister's. Not been invited but I could invite myself. She lives 3.5 hours drive from us too... We'll see. I'll have a think about it. Will see them all at my aunt's funeral on 10th...

Thanks ladies x

pickle162 · 26/02/2016 23:06

Sorry to hear about your aunt taydex xx ooh 11th March is the date as my best friends 12week scan-what an exciting day :)
God I hate families, that sounds exactly the same as what my mum would do....oh we are having a family day out...oh but you aren't invited and weren't even told...makes u feel loved don't it.
Kwick-do u have to have any more scans before egg collection?

INeedNewShoes · 27/02/2016 17:31
