Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Eeek so excited for you! They tell such bullshit don't they....amazing how that appt suddenly appears Hmm good luck!!!!!!

CautionHormone · 04/02/2016 20:29

Good evening, ladies!

Thank you all for your sympathy towards my Mum. Bless her heart. She's doing a little better now, but she just needs the op done - next Wednesday she's booked in for, but they're striking then apparently so she may not have it done after all. Apparently NHS can only cancel you twice - if they cancel her again on Wednesday then she'll definitely be having it done on 24th Feb. Fingers crossed!

taydex you're right... I can go to the next open evening and ask all the questions I've got ready, by that point mum should have had her op done so there shouldn't be any reason for me not to stay til the end.
I haven't looked at NHS funding, no - I did briefly when we spoke about it last but couldn't find a single thing on the Internet. I'll have to ask my doctor about it - he didn't offer up anything to do with NHS funding when I last went but maybe he didn't really know himself!

Great news for your IUI appointment tomorrow! Sometimes you have to tell little white lies in order to get what you need - I've got everything crossed that it goes alright and the 2ww doesn't drag out... We'll all be here for you though, so at least you know you've got us to fall back on :)

kwick how're you feeling?? Hopefully a little better than yesterday!

What do you ladies think about the Zika virus..?! It's scaring me sh*tless and I'm no where near where's affected! I am going away to Spain in August though so I'm paranoid about going now in case it ends up invading there!

Kwick709 · 04/02/2016 21:10

taydex your follicle growth sounds great. I do not think you will need book about egg but maybe book for mum to be - can recommend for that too.
Good on you to get iui earlier - my clinic always did iui next day after ovitrelle. It is very confusing though. And now I know more about lh I am not sure I took ovitrelle at right time either. For sure with ivf there is much closer monitoring (if that is possible!)

caution I too am worried about Zika but so much freaks me out at the mo... I really do not feel in my right mind - I think hormones are too blame.

I am still not great. Spotting started again today - probably not a good idea to travel so soon after op but that is my job.

Going to try and get some shut eye.

Best of luck td for tomorrow :)

CautionHormone · 05/02/2016 20:06

taydex how did it go today?!!!

Your hormones probably are to blame kwick :( bless your heart. Just think - it'll all be worth it when you've finally got your baby in your arms!!!
The Zika virus is scaring me, but apparently people that are affected are only affected for a short time. Although apparently it is passed on through sex, like an STI - but that doesn't matter to us Wink.
How are you feeling today kwick? X

pickle162 · 05/02/2016 20:40

How did the iui go today taydex?

It's Friday wahoooooo :)

Kwick709 · 05/02/2016 21:53

I thought Zika was passed through a mossy bite?

taydex please let us know how you got on. Remember: visualisation very importany & keep your feet warm!

taydex · 05/02/2016 22:03

Hello ladies,

Happy Friday! Thank flip it's the weekend. Smile

All turkey basted here. It all went fine. Now just the long waiting game. Gotta love that dreaded 2WW! Going to try and take it easy. It's been a crazy few weeks. We'll see how that goes.

Still no news on the job front. The recruitment agent says they're working out an offer and are keen to get moving but I'm still waiting a week later. It's frustrating that it's taking a while but it might not actually be a bad thing. One of my old colleagues works at the new company and I got her to look up the maternity policy for me. Seems I wouldn't get any maternity pay if I started the job already up duffed so it's now in the hands of the gods. I see it as a win win. I either get a positive preg test result in 2 weeks and stick with my old job to get (actually really good) mat pay or I get a pretty shiny new job, and I wait till I have started to try again (should only be a few months). Out of my hands now.

Hope everyone is good. Have a great weekend.

taydex · 05/02/2016 22:07

Ooh, thanks for the warm feet tip. I'd forgotten about that. Positive thoughts all round here.

Not massively worried about the Zika virus here but then that's probably my sciencey / pharmaceutical background.

pickle162 · 05/02/2016 22:08

Yea it's through mosquitos, there was an article about how the virus can stay in the sperm for a certain length of time and therefore be passed over but by far a small fish in a big ocean compared to the Mossys themselves. We did about it at work the other week in our infection control updates and they were talking about introducing a load of infertile male mosquitos so that the little buggers can no longer breed and therefore wipe it out....and the mosseys! More dangerous for preg people as can cause nerve defects and small babies, they were also talking about putting a 2yr ban on having babies which seems a little bit difficult/insane to bring in

taydex · 05/02/2016 22:50

kwik - would love any book recommendations, thank you. How's you? How's the spotting? Are you back home yet?

Feet are properly toasty now. 1 pair normal socks, 1 pair fat fluffy socks, 1 pair slippers, and sat in front of the fire Smile

LisaH1979 · 05/02/2016 22:53

Hi everyone, I'm new to this thread and completely new to IUI and was hoping to join this thread to talk to likeminded people. I'm a single lady in my mid 30s, been a career woman with little luck on the man front but have always wanted children so have decided to go for it on my own. It's really great to know I'm not alone and to hear all about your experiences on this path. I don't want to interrupt the flow of the thread but just wanted to say hello and look forward to hearing more about everyone's experiences.

pickle162 · 05/02/2016 23:06

Hi lisaH

Welcome :) feel free to join in,not interrupting anything. Will message tomorrow when a bit more awake

I'm off to bed (to hopefully actually sleep) night all x

taydex · 05/02/2016 23:38

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the thread. More the merrier! Smile
I'm sure you have many questions. Please do ask away.

Kwick709 · 06/02/2016 05:05

Welcome Lisa!!! Feel free to ask away :)

Taydex I have a list if dos for 2WW - will post tomorow as well as book suggestions.

Am awake again... Wish I could get into a good sleep pattern. I think current wakefulness is due to eating food and then going almost straight to bed... I was just so tired and before that hungry.

taydex · 06/02/2016 09:53

Ooh, lovely. Thanks kwik, I appreciate that. Got some stuff from a book in the library but the more recommendations/suggestions the better. X

Kwick709 · 06/02/2016 10:34

okay Taydex here is my list:

  • for first 5 days of 2WW eat a fifth of a peeled (but not cored) fresh pineapple - this is supposed to aid implantation
  • keep feet and kidneys warm throughout 2WW
  • laugh as much as possible
  • visualise being preggers - I got an app called ihypnofertility
  • drink lots of milk
  • take 75mg of aspirin each day
  • oh yeah and have you some orgasms.. supposed to help with making right environment for magic to happen Blush
pickle162 · 06/02/2016 12:34

Glad turkey baster session happened this month.good luck getting through the 2ww!!!!

Lisa have you looked at any clinics for where you can have iui? I went to an open evening which was fab for getting loads of info (&free)
I'm in the process of trying to save and absorb info from here about iui but hope to start iui about may/june next year when I'll be 33 so I would still have option of egg share Ivf if wasn't successful

Kwick709 · 06/02/2016 18:56

I had a lovely chat with my ivf successful cousin earlier today. She really helped me put a lot of things in perspective... especially trying to focus on here and now and not get all worked up about future. BTW she did nothing special after treatment and still got upduffed first round of IVF.

I am definitely off red meat wagon having had a lovely steak and ale pie for lunch... everything in moderation - right?

I have added Co-enzyme Q10 and vitamin E to my supplement regime (both for egg quality).

Kwick709 · 06/02/2016 20:41

Oops forgot to give book recommendations:
It all starts with the egg - Rebecca Fett
Expecting better - Emily Oster
Right time baby - Claudia Spahr - have not got yet but take a look at her site:
www.claudiaspahr.com

taydex · 07/02/2016 10:26

Hi ladies,

Thanks for the tips kwik. I was already doing the milk and pineapple but will definitely get the others sorted too. Nice to see not all will be a chore Wink

Also I totally agree with everything in moderation. This cycle I've been a little less strict with myself leading up to the turkey basting and I think it's led to a more relaxed me which has got to be good for creating the best environment, right?

TD x

Kwick709 · 07/02/2016 10:41

Absolutely taydex!!!

I went through my list with my ivf successful cousin yesterday and she was amazed... The only thing she did was some acupuncture in the lead up. I have been thinking about that but think it will be counter productive as it stresses me out.

taydex · 07/02/2016 11:44

I think it's whatever works for you kwik. We're all different. I know that I personally couldn't just live as if nothing was different. Sure, plenty of people get pregnant when they're drinking loads and eating sh*t and not looking after themselves. But for me, I have to give it my best shot each time. After all, I don't have all the time in the world and it costs a lot of money to just ruin it by being silly for a few weeks. But each to their own I say. Whatever works best mentally for you.

How are you feeling after last week's procedure?

TD x

Kwick709 · 07/02/2016 13:09

Feeling ok Taydex thanks for asking. Just waiting for lift to take me to my mum's for lunch and at least 1 more die hard film with my nephew.

My cousin just did not know any of the stuff I shared yesterday - she was taking good care of herself otherwise. She had two failed iuis and then went on to ivf when discovered she had really bad endometriosis.

Kwick709 · 08/02/2016 21:16

Taydex how are you finding 2WW? Let me know if you need me to shut up about it but I am with you in spirit!!!

Does anyone know any cayenne pepper recipes I need to up my intake!

taydex · 08/02/2016 21:45

Yeah, not too bad thanks Kwik, thank you. But then it's only the start. Once I get half way through is when I'm going to find it tough. That second week is such a drag! Keeping myself busy though. We're off to Italy on Wednesday for a few days (till Sunday) - only I could mistime things so badly so I can't drink on holiday!

In other news... I finally got my job offer through today, yay! Very exciting. I really want to take it (although might see if I can convince them to up the salary a little - it'd be wrong not to, wouldn't it?!). Not sure how I'm going to play it with the whole IUI thing...

Hmm, cayenne. I try to chuck a little sprinkle in whatever's cooking (not too much). Maybe try making some turkey meatballs and then a tinned tomato sauce with chopped onion, peppers and cayenne? I'll get my thinking cap for others. Ooh, chicken fajitas?
