Donor IUI?

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Hopefully the hysteroscopy can find out what's wrong and they can treat it....perhaps this is why none of the iui's worked??? Glad you can have a lie in tomorrow and take it easy for a day or two

Kwick709 · 30/01/2016 12:28

It definitely could be why the IUIs did not work - one side of cavity is uneven and implantation is one smooth sides only apparently. I think recovery is real quick - just have the anaesthetic to handle. My mum has gone down with a horrible lurgy so my back-up plan is my sister-in-law as someone has to collect me on Tuesday from the clinic.

I feel delicate today - even after lie in to 11 (although I was awake from 5-8). Do need to dye my hair and do some work and have dinner with a friend later which will be nice.

Hope you are all having a restful weekend.

pickle162 · 30/01/2016 18:05

Glad it isn't too traumatic, have u just booked the one day off work?
Went to toys r us and then to cafe and the park with my friend and her 2 &6 year old. Her youngest is potty training and ended up pooping herself so thankfully didn't have to stay sooooo long in the park as I was freezing. Was nice to come home for a bit of piece and quiet as they are both screeching monkeys so helps to suppress my broody-ness for a while haha

CautionHormone · 30/01/2016 18:24

Oh I see... Strange that nobody picked up on it before!! At least you have a reason now as to why the IUI's might not of worked - at least you know it wasn't your body being stubborn! Glad the recovery is quick, the anaesthetic will be the worst of it, like you said. You'll feel drowsy for a few days, that's for sure! My Grandad has an op on Tuesday also, if they don't cancel his, as well! It's quite a serious op though so hopefully it won't be.

Hope you enjoy your evening out with your friend kwick. X

Kwick709 · 30/01/2016 21:28

I have not yet sorted work yet... But I have a day trip on Monday and then due to go to Paris on Thursday.
I thought I would just need Tuesday but some friends from work told me that I may still be out of sorts on Wednesday. I will try and clear both days... I am so behind but this is more important.

I had a lovely meal with my friend and am now tucked up in bed watchibg casualty :) bliss!

pickle162 · 30/01/2016 21:50

Me too love a bit of casualty :)
Take the time that you need, this is by far more important than work
Hope everyone ok, taydex/caution:)

Noooooo Dixie can't leave Sad

Kwick709 · 31/01/2016 07:54

But pickle if it means she gets her happy ending she must go...

Not sure I understood how she got a warning and a promotion at the same time... Where I work if you have a disciplinary action on file you are not eligible for transfer until it is "spent"!

Need to sort out my finances...

pickle162 · 31/01/2016 09:25

Yeh I'm happy she got to go with Jess but whoever replaces her will need to be amazing.

Do you have to pay for this procedure on Tuesday or is including in the testing?

Have a good day everyone-I've got to go food shopping but don't want to wash my hair so may shove it back-put trackie bottoms on and pretend I'm a chav or that just come from exercise(ha) and that's why look so awful

Kwick709 · 31/01/2016 12:33

I have to pay for it pickle just over 1.8k... I definitely need to win the lottery!

Hope your expedition with dirty hair goes okay - I often tie my hair back for this very reason as I try to have one shampoo free day each week.

Kwick709 · 01/02/2016 05:37

Just caused a bit of a set to at Heathrow as refused to go through bodyscanner.... They took me away for a private pat down & tried to make me sign a consent in pencil!!!! Perhaps I am being overly cautious but where is the empirical evidence to prove these bew gizmos are safe????
Going to try and get some shut eye on the flight...

taydex · 01/02/2016 10:16

Hello ladies,

Sorry for the delay in chatting on here, I had a crazy busy week last week. Which ended in an interview. Eeeek! On the plus side it looks like I'm going to be offered the job (they're just sorting out some technical stuff at their end and coming up with a £ for me). On the minus side I'm due to be IUI'd sometime this week, so could end up with a case of very bad timing. But who knows. I don't want to delay IUI more so will just have to see what happens. If I do get offered the job and decide to take it then I may delay more IUI - depending on their maternity policy. Luckily I have a friend who works there so I think if I get an offer I like the look of I will ask her to look up the policy for me (by this I just mean how long do you need to work there to get mat pay and how much is it - the company I'm at now are very generous with mat pay).

Kwik - How's that lovely pussy lump coming along? I'm loving the sound of your new sperm daddy, he sounds like a hunk Smile . Is life still super stressful for you at the moment? I had to have a hysteroscopy before they'd let me do IUI. Mine wasn't under general anaesthetic and it was OK. You could definitely feel them in there and there was some pressure (I think they pump fluid in if I remember rightly) which wasn't pleasant but overall not too bad. If you're under anaesthetic too then sure it will be fine. Great news on the speculum though! Hurrah! Totally with you re the scanners in the airport. I'm off to Italy next week and I might do the same Smile

Kwik and Pickle - I totally relate to your chat about OCD with kids baking. I am totally the same. I made gingerbread men with my 6 year old nephew at Christmas. He turned them upside down and decided they were reindeer heads, then covered them in icing and edible bling! Quite cute really but I'm like "no, we need to put the eyes here, not there" and other slightly an*l comments to make them perfect. LOL

Pickle - Made me chuckle hearing about your friend's screeching monkey children. Sometimes I do question what we're doing with the IUIs when I spend time with my friends kids!!!

Caution - This week's the big week for the clinic open day, isn't it? Best of luck. I would recommend going armed with a list of questions you'd like answers to. It may be that you don't get time to ask them all, but in my experience you generally get to hang round at the end to ask any questions that have not been answered while everyone was there. Any news on your Mum's replacement appointment? Have you had your bloods done yet?

In other news, we've been advised to try non-medicated IUI this month so that's what we're doing. We went for a scan on Friday (day 8) and I had 1 follicle at 11.3 and another at 10.7 then various smaller ones, which the nurse said was very good for non-medicated. We have another scan this morning to see how they're coming along. Been using the ClearBlue and the OneStep strips this month (first time for ClearBlue) as we've had issues with the OneStep in the past - so far no positives on either so probably be a few days yet before IUI.

Right, I'd best get on and at least look like I'm doing some work before I disappear off for my appointment.

Take care ladies,

TD

Kwick709 · 01/02/2016 18:46

TD all the best for new job and iui!!! Exciting week!
My op is tomorrow at 2.30pm - nil by mouth from tonight. How you did without general I do not know!!!!

taydex · 01/02/2016 19:11

Hi Kwik,

Best of luck. I didn't even know there was an option for a general! Otherwise I'd have been right there asking for one! I think they only looked at one of my tubes when I had mine cos I said it was uncomfortable. Now wondering if it would have been best them looking at both. Who knows.

Scan today shows follicles growing nicely and steadily. I had one bigger one at just under 14mm, and then the other larger one's still about 11 mm so seems like we have a clear winner. A few smaller ones too but nothing to write home about. Going back in for another scan on Wednesday but seems they're growing at about 1 mm a day so probably a few days yet till time for IUI. I will keep you posted. Both ClearBlue and OneStep both showing as negative (which is to be expected at that size).

Anyway, good luck tomorrow, I hope it all goes well.

pickle162 · 01/02/2016 20:49

Hey taydexwaves

Caution-was it the open evening tonight?how'd you get on?

Kwick-good luck for tomorrow, what time do you have to be infor the op

My bestie text me this morning to tell me she is about 5weeks pregnant, her and her hubby have been trying about 18months(naturally) but she has pcos....so unbelievably happy for her, totally jealous, I've done it backwards good job,my own house,no man or preg....she's married, rents and about to loose her job-life is very weird-shame I can't have joint mat leave with her tho :( but yay (total mix of emotions but get to be a auntie again :D

Kwick709 · 02/02/2016 13:27

Taydex eat plenty if fertility boosting foods to help follicles grow - walnuts, cinnamon, avocado, cayenne pepper, milk :)

Op is scheduled for 2.30pm... Beginning to freak out! Good job I worked this morning to keep my mind off things.

Do not think they are looking at tubes just cavity. Have my sister in law lined up to get taxi home with me. She seems to have forgiven me for getting nephew into Die Hard... He said motherf**ker on Sunday....

taydex · 02/02/2016 15:29

Ha ha ha ha ha, love it! That is so funny. Ah, the joys of being an aunt hey? Smile

Doing relatively well on the good eating and drinking this cycle. A few minor slip ups (I had half a lager on Friday to celebrate interview success and a full caffeine coffee this morning as I was practically asleep at my desk) but otherwise good.

Fingers crossed for the procedure. Actually, you're probably all done now...

taydex · 02/02/2016 15:34

Caution - how did the open evening go at CARE? What did you think of them/their facilities/staff? Any news on blood tests?

TD x

Kwick709 · 02/02/2016 18:35

So no issues with anaesthetic... Was over very fast but now I am in agony with period like pains and need to take some painkillers but need to eat food first - just waiting for delivery.

Just managed to spill a fair amount of nasal spray for down regging hope I still have enough!

And just bloody realised did not need to start that yet! WTF!!! It is all just too much. That is not until day 21...

caution let us know how open evening goes :)

By the way they did not find anything today so this does not explain failed iuis.

Am still taking tomorrow... Feel very delicateConfused

Kwick709 · 02/02/2016 18:37

Forgot to say my consultant responded to my email and said to go ahead and take coenzyme q10 and vit e for egg quality. Why dont they make all this clear at the start????

CautionHormone · 02/02/2016 20:37

Hi ladies, sorry it's been so long since I was last on here... I've been staying at my Mums because she's been so poorly.

taydex she's got a replacement appointment for next Wednesday. But there's strikes going on next week around then so she'll be lucky if she has it. If not it's been sorted for the 24th February - which is three weeks away :( she can't go much longer, she's struggling so bad and my Dad and brother don't know what to do when she's like that, hence why I've had to stay. It's been a nightmare!

Yeah I went to the open evening yesterday - was very insightful! They just spoke about the different procedures available and pros and cons of them both, but I think I'm sticking with IUI. The staff are very friendly, actually. They broke it all down for us whilst they were explaining procedures and different things, was a totally relaxed atmosphere. Couldn't stay afterwards because Mum was bad and I was needed at theirs, so I'm going back on the 7th March to the next open evening so I can ask questions and such. I'm also debating on having my appointments this month - my first initial consultation with the fertility doc, the donation coordinator and the counsellor. I just want to get the ball rolling now but with the way things are going with Mum, it'll be another month I have to wait! I'm not complaining though, as her health comes before anything.
I'm also debating on waiting because it'll probably be more like after summer that I can actually go through with the IUI. I don't know, we'll see I guess.

Had my bloods done also on Friday last week - just waiting for the results now :) fingers crossed they all come back fine!

kwick, I hope you're feeling ok. Hopefully you're not in too much pain! Have been thinking of you today.

taydex, it's wonderful news on the job & IUI front. Hopefully you can have your IUI this week - fingers crossed!! good news about your follicles - if I'm remembering rightly, your last IUI they missed ovulation? Hopefully they don't do it this time!

Much love ladies. X

Kwick709 · 03/02/2016 08:44

Caution so sorry to hear your mummy is not doing so great. I really hope she gets the op asap. My mummy has had the worst flu ever and I feel very guilty as she would not allow me near her due to cross-contamination risk.

Taydex any news on the follicle front?

Not sure if I recommended a book to you all called "It starts with the egg" by Rebecca Fett - gives lots of advice of things you can be doing to improve egg quality.

I had a bit of a difficult night - moments of extreme pain... hopefully things are calmer now..but I am going to take it easy and have a duvet/sofa day.

taydex · 03/02/2016 19:54

Evening lovely ladies,

How are you all today?

Kwik - How are you post op? Any more pain? I hope the duvet day helped your recovery. Eugh, I totally agree re them (the "professionals") not telling us everything up front. So frustrating! I might take a look at that book you've suggested - what kind of time frame does it cover? I'm supposed to be IUI-ing on Friday this week and wasn't sure if the book covered more before IUI?

Caution - I hope your Mum gets her appointment next week and there's no more delays. Glad the open evening well went but shame you weren't able to stay for questions. Sounds like you've got your head in the right place though - Mum needs to come first. And you can go to the next open evening and ask all the questions. Have you looked in to NHS funding? I remember someone a few pages back on here said that in Birmingham sometimes single women can get NHS funding so it might be worth you looking in to, especially if you have the luxury of time (you mentioned not being able to start till possibly the other side of the summer). Fingers crossed for your bloods.

So, update from me. I had another appointment at the clinic today. First thing this morning I did the ClearBlue test and the OneStep test (OneStep should be between 11 am and 3 pm but as I have shed loads of them and was p*ssing in a pot anyway....). ClearBlue came up with smiley face (not flashing) which is odd because the packet/leaflet suggests you get negative result then ~2 days of flashing face (showing you're on your way to peak) then solid smiley face for ~2 days (showing you are peaking). I've never done the ClearBlue tests before but seeing as we've missed ovulation using the clinic's strips (the OneStep) I figured why not give them a try - and would highly recommend. The OneStep first thing came up with the second (test) line almost as dark as the control line (so on the borderline of positive) but then the OneStep at the right time of day it looked less like a positive. Anyway, I was booked in for a monitoring scan and bloods this morning anyway so did that. Biggest follicle is now 17 mm and the others are all smaller (next one is 13 mm I think, then the rest probably 5 mm or under). Lining is also looking pretty good at 7-8 mm. Bloods came back with LH at 88 (which is apparently really good, I've no idea - they're never given me a figure before - anyone got any knowledge of this number?), so I did my Ovitrelle at 7:30 pm today and should have IUI on Friday (afternoon according to my clinic but following all the research I've done online 36 hours post Ovitrelle appears to be the ideal so I am going to sneakily tell the clinic I have something on at work on Friday afternoon which I can't move so can I have IUI in the morning instead!). Me so bad, but hey, their timings haven't exactly worked so far, and my research online (from decent journals and forum chats) shows more success with 36 hours than the ~48 hours my clinics has made me do before. Actually, now I'm confused if the hours is post trigger injection or post positive surge test result... Anyway, I am feeling pretty positive about the whole thing. Fingers crossed.

Oh, and no job news yet. Recruitment agent says they want to make an offer but are just sorting out the numbers with their HR...

Right, I'd best go get me some dinner. Hope you're all well.

TD x

pickle162 · 03/02/2016 20:59

Hi all,

caution sorry to hear about your mummy, keeping everything crossed that she gets her op soon
kwick glad everything was ok with the results but a bit of a bugger that you had to fork out all that money for nothing(except pain) hope the discomfort has settled

taydex sounds bloody confusing, hope you manage to have the iui done fri

taydex · 04/02/2016 14:44

Aloha ladies,

Yep, nice and confusing as ever Smile.

I called up the clinic just this morning after they tried offering me a 1:30 pm slot tomorrow (apparently that's the first IUI appointment they do each day so they were being nice giving me that slot!) and told them a little lie that I have a very important legal meeting at work tomorrow afternoon so need to have my appointment early and be out of there by 11. As if by magic I now have a 10 am appointment for IUI Star

Getting excited now.

Still not heard back re the new job but might be a good thing. I could kind of do with knowing if this IUI has worked before I go accepting a new job, which should be only just over 2 weeks time now till I know (oh, how I am looking forward to the dreaded 2WW!).

Hope everyone's doing well.

TD x
