Donor IUI?

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Kwick709 · 04/12/2015 21:56

Just did ovulation test and I think I have lh surge... Will test again in the morning but hopefully all systems are go for a sunday iui :)
I have eaten lots of walnuts, avocado, cinnamon, eggs, and yoghurt - hopefully follicle is 4mm bigger Grin
Will keep you posted!

INeedNewShoes · 05/12/2015 01:05

That's good news Kwick Smile Fingers crossed for Sunday!

I'm doing ovulation tests for the first time this month. My LH surge should be tomorrow or Sunday so I'm on tenterhooks hoping to get a positive test. I had all my blood tests back today and they're all in the normal range which is such a relief!

I'm off for my initial consultation at the clinic early next week. It all feels quite real now - two years of coming to terms with not finding Mr Right, getting my head around Donor IUI, researching clinics etc. and now I'm starting the process properly!

Ineednewshoes well done you! I hope your clinic expedition goes well. You have been very patient... I started thinking in March, was tested in May. I only looked at 2 clinics (bridge street and lwc) and then went to crgh - my cousins did ivf (1st time lucky) there.
No lh surge this am... Will see what they see on scan - if over 18mm they will prob go ahead tomorrow with iui but if not I hope I can hang on until tuesday when back from nice.
Pickle i hope you had a great christmas party!

pickle162 · 05/12/2015 09:25

It was sooooo good and then went back to our managers house and stayed till 3 [santa] was just what we all needed :) thanks
Is the scan today ready for tomorrow or tomorrow?hope ur follicles start to get a bit bigger x

Kwick709 · 05/12/2015 10:43

Pickle Glad you had a good party :) mine is next tuesday but depending on below I may give it a miss.... Do you have a sore head? One plus of giving up on the sauce: no more hangovers :)
Follicle only 16mm... So if get lh surge tonight or tomorrow am then will have iui tomorrow; if not, if I surge monday prob all to pot but have scan booked for tuesday in case get lh surge mon pm or tues am... Does anyone know longest it can be from lh surge to successful iui? I am trying to get answers online but quite confusing...

pickle162 · 05/12/2015 11:57

No sore head just achey legs and knackered.
Hopefully your surge will come, I'm not sure about lengths of time sorry :( is there someone you could speak to at the clinic who could give u advice?

Kwick709 · 05/12/2015 17:42

Clinic think you should do iui day after lh surge or same day but the thing is I wonder if that is very fast.... Will continue to research online.
I just got back from Rochester - Christmas market was vety busy but it was a great experience.

Roonerspism · 05/12/2015 23:13

kwick you really want to have the IUI the day after the surge. Any longer may work but is much less likely to. In my experience, clinics are pretty naughty in this respect. They will take your dosh even when unlikely to work

Kwick709 · 06/12/2015 10:35

Hi Roonerspism! Long time no speak! I hope you are well :)
I have to pay almost as much for a cancelled iui so not sure my clinic is being naughty.
Anyway i had a scan even though no lh surge - egg has either collapsed (now 12mm) or I have ovulated... So having iui now today at about noon!!! So glad not to have stress on this tomorrow!
More to follow!

INeedNewShoes · 06/12/2015 10:38

From the reading-up I've done on this, insemination should be done asap once you get LH surge. My understanding is that sperm can hang around for up to 7 days but our eggs are only fertilisable for a very short time. My plan, based on this, is to do my OPKs multiple times a day around the time I expect the surge so that when it's positive I can get to the clinic as soon as possible after the surge.

How are things looking for you today Kwick?

INeedNewShoes · 06/12/2015 10:41

Sorry - cross post!

That's good news that you can do your IUI today Kwick! Lots of positive thoughts coming in your direction Smile

Kwick709 · 06/12/2015 11:40

Thanks!
I think it may be that strip tests I have been using not as good as others have used in past or this month is a non ovulatory one... Anyway I am high at mo... I always get excited b4 iui...
I did find a paper about the timing of iui... When I get the chance I will copy link in.
Clinic is well busy -guess today is a fertile day Smile
I shall use waiting time now to try and figure out what on earth to wear to xmas party on tuesday.... If I can get my brain to focus for a moment!

Roonerspism · 06/12/2015 12:11

new shoes yes, you are right. I have spent hours on this subject and had 4 BFP IUIs this way (I tested twice a day). Always did the IUI the morning after the LH surge.

My clinic fed me nonsense that the egg can survive up to 24 hours. Which is true but massively lowers success rates.

Good luck kwick

Kwick709 · 06/12/2015 15:31

Okay so all done and home again and chicken is in the oven for delayed sunday lunch with friend!
Iui was okay - doctor had to reinsert speculum as pain was pretty intense first time, second insertion much better and done pretty quick. I normally only look at my name on the sample but this time I saw the magic potion - blimey not much in there!
This is the article I mentioned: humrep.oxfordjournals.org/content/20/9/2542.full.pdf
Happy sunday everyone!

pickle162 · 06/12/2015 17:37

Glad you enjoyed Rochester Xmas market.
Wow I seem to have slept through loads, didn't get any notifications.

Glad you managed to have it done, will be thinking of you over the next couple of weeks until test day

Hope everyone is well :)

Kwick709 · 07/12/2015 23:26

Just got home after day trip to nice.... So tired :(
Had really strange and painful feeling in my side on way home... i do so hope that I have not overdone things... i have to be up again at 6am so off to sleep for me! My sciatica has been playing up again also....
Btw I think I have got to bottom of feeling sick symptoms which funnily enough went away after I stopped using crinone gel after 3rd fail... It seems like this plus a bunch of other stuff (sore boobage, cramping, and so on) are all side effects. GREAT (lots of sarcasm)... So all typical pregnancy symptoms are also side effects of drugs!! I am gojbg to try and drown out my body for the next two weeks and just eat & sleep (in between work of course).
Night, night!

pickle162 · 08/12/2015 17:56

Try and take it easy in between your manic work schedule

Kwick709 · 08/12/2015 22:11

Well the fun just never stops! Have to fly to Lisbon tomorrow, back Friday....so much for taking it easy....
Very annoyed that nowhere seems to cater properly for those wishing to imbibe non-alcoholic beer!!
How am I possibly going to resist the DELICIOUS portuguese custard tarts???

Kwick709 · 09/12/2015 20:47

Me again! So I missed my flight...am currently in bed witha view of Heathrow's runway so I can get next flight out tomorrow am! I am trying to adopt zen like approach... Not looking forward to 3.30am start!

Kwick709 · 12/12/2015 14:48

Do hope this thread has not become zombiefied :(
So almost one week down of waiting, another to go and I wish I could say I have been taking it easy but this week I flew 4 times and had quite. Lot of work stress... I did a lot of deep breathing!
Would love to hear how everyone is doing.
Best wishes, Kx

INeedNewShoes · 12/12/2015 17:05

I've heard that flying is good - something about the pressure encouraging things!

Fingers crossed for you Kwick

My clinic want me to have an ultrasound and hycosy (slightly kinder than hsg thankfully as doesn't involve x-ray) so my plans are on hold until I've had the hycosy, which has to be at the beginning of January to catch the right time in my cycle.

It's a good lesson in patience which I'm going to need bucket-loads of for this process! Apparently women are more likely to conceive in the following three cycles after a hycosy so I'll hold onto that thought while I'm undergoing the uncomfortable procedure!

pickle162 · 12/12/2015 20:00

For some reason I'm not getting notifications of this thread anymore so keeping missing things.
How is everyone doing? I've had flu-y virus all week which has flawed me, has freaked me out about going down the single mum route, haven't been able to look after myself this week how on earth would I look after a little person too Confused
Is everyone looking forward to Xmas?ive got 5more days to surviveXmas Smile

Kwick709 · 12/12/2015 21:02

Is hycosy when they check your tubes? Maybe I should do that. Good to hear about the flying... Feel less guilty now.
Pickle when you are a mum you find superhuman strength, apparently. But I agree it is scarey... My slovenly ways will have to come to an end but I know the return will be more than worth it. I hope you are feeling better.
