Donor IUI?

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Sorry Kwick that you've not had better news Flowers

I'm new to this thread so I'm a bit of an imposter but I couldn't not respond to your post.

Hopefully some of your longer-standing thread supporters will be along soon to offer some more comforting words than I can.

Retest tho as some of the tests aren't as good as others! Lots of hugs

Roonerspism · 20/11/2015 14:09

kwick a line is a line!!

Kwick709 · 20/11/2015 15:40

Thanks to you all for your lovely messages! Btw ineednewshoes - fab name!
Omg!! I just re-read the instructions and one of the pictures for pregnant is like what I saw... I still have the test and the faint line has got darker over course of the day.... Or is that my imagination...?
Okay I am not going to get my hopes up. I will buy a new test tonight and test again tomorrow morning with lots of stored up weewee and then I will know.
I feel very guilty now about the binge I had earlier of homemade scones, scarlet strawberry jam and fresh cream...

pickle162 · 20/11/2015 16:34

Sounds positive, let us know tomorrow :) don't worry about your binge at least it wasn't a binge on alcohol!lol. Keeping everything crossed

INeedNewShoes · 20/11/2015 20:28

Ooh Kwick I've never been complimented on my MN name before! It's an absolutely factual name as I really really do need new shoes but have stupid narrow feet and can't find any.

Fingers crossed for when you retest tomorrow.

I'm new to all this. I've been researching and deliberating for a couple of years but now I'm ready to take the leap and go it alone. I'm planning my first attempt at donor IUI in February.

I was wondering if anyone else in this situation had any fertility checks done before starting? The clinic insist on blood tests for infections but that's all. I'm wondering whether I should also have an ultrasound or anything else? I'm 33 and as I've never tried to get pregnant I have no idea what state my fertility is in!

Hello all,

I'm new here but have followed this thread over the last few days and found it so helpful, I had to join.

I'm 38 and will begin stimulated IUI in March/April next year. I have a contract until the end of next year and so I am planning on (or rather desperately hoping) to get pregnant so I can take maternity leave at the end of my contract.

I have gone through the LWC and had blood tests for AMH (I got good results) and had an ultrasound which didn't show any problems.

I've got my fingers crossed for Kwick and wishing you ladies all the best with your journeys too.

It's so nice to see how supportive everyone is and really nice to be a able to chat to people going through the same thing.

LL Smile

pickle162 · 20/11/2015 21:05

I'm 31 single female and not started any of it yet apart from going to a seminar at Lwc and finding my clinic but not had any tests-I think you need to have the Amh test which is about £95 and blood tests which vary in cost as to where u have them and then a scan is usually involved in the first consultation. I'm planning on having medicated iui prob may 2017 as want to save enough to avoid having to wait between treatments if wasn't successful and not the right time at work at all to be doing anything yet but I've been telling select people after finally going 'right i am actually doing this!'
Good luck everyone :)

Kwick709 · 20/11/2015 22:20

Hello all you newbies to the thread - you are very welcome! I too find these threads so helpful and I feel very comforted to feel part of this virtual community!

I did the following before starting natural IUI: blood tests galore including one to find out if I was CMV positive (very important to know your status on this if using donor sperm as if you are negative like me then donor numbers drop radically); ovarian reserve test - so a pelvic scan on day 1-3 of cycle to check how many follicles you have; counselling (obligatory if you are using a donor); genetic counselling (regarding a blood disorder I have which worried the consultant but not the Great Ormond Street specialist :) ). After chatting with the consultant we decided not to bother with a tubes test as there was no reason to suspect that I had an issue there. Although we did have a bizarre conversation about that - she said tubes and I said tube as I only have one ovary and she said that an egg can travel to the other tube?????

Okay so I have bought 2 First Response pregnancy tests.... Never used this brand before. Do I drink a ton of water and try tonight as well as tomorrow? I did not use any progesterone gel this morning... If I am preggers I do not want to scupper my chances by not using.... Blimey this is complicated!

Roonerspism · 20/11/2015 22:36

Just test kwick Grin very best of luck!

I was 33 when I started. I was told I had to have a tube scan by the clinic which was clear. Think it was just money making. That was it. I was CMV negative and had a CMV positive donor - apparently the risk is negligible....

Kwick709 · 20/11/2015 22:37

No faint line this time... :(

Roonerspism · 20/11/2015 22:59

Oh kwick test again in the morning. Often the cheaper tests are just as sensitive, if not more so Flowers

Lawlady2846 · 20/11/2015 23:36

Ohhh Kwick, hang in there sweetie!

I agree with Roonerspism, test again in the morning. BrewCake!

Kwick709 · 21/11/2015 09:41

Just one line :( oh well so much for third time lucky!

INeedNewShoes · 21/11/2015 10:04

Sorry Kwick

I really feel for you. I can only imagine what it must feel like.

Be kind to yourself today.

Will you consider getting your tubes checked as a next step? I gather there are things that can be done if they're blocked.

Roonerspism · 21/11/2015 13:26

kwick Flowers

Kwick709 · 21/11/2015 20:44

Thanks to you all - your support really means a lot.

I found this crazy website where people post up photos of their pregnancy tests and users vote on whether it is positive or not....!

I am really gutted this time, particularly as I have been feeling really sick most days and if I am not pregnant then I must be ill.... I am beginning to wonder if I may have developed some food intolerances which is really ironic as I have cut out loads of things in an attempt to boost fertility and lose weight! I am getting very exhausted from cross examining every little feeling in my body.

Any way as because where there is hope there is life I have bought some more tests... This time the strip ones (loads cheaper too) and if my period has not come by tomorrow morning I will test again.... Blush

pickle162 · 21/11/2015 21:05

Awe sorry to read all of this kwick, fingers crossed the other tests will come back positive. Look after yourself x

Kwick709 · 22/11/2015 17:01

No such luck! Oh well, next cycle starts!

Lawlady2846 · 22/11/2015 17:13

Oh Kwick I feel for you.

Will have everything crossed for your next cycle. X

pickle162 · 22/11/2015 17:23

Be kind to yourself sweetie, we are here if you need us and through your next cycle x

getyourselfchecked · 22/11/2015 20:34

Hello,
I'd like to join! I am 38 and currently 6 mo pregnant via donor. I am single and don't know anyone else doing this so it's good to 'meet' likeminded folk. I went with LWC and IUI (unexpectedly) worked first time for me. Just letting you know that it can happen!

Lawlady2846 · 22/11/2015 20:43

Yay that's so good to hear and very exciting.

Can I ask, did you have a natural cycle or stimulated?

getyourselfchecked · 22/11/2015 21:06

I went with medicated - injectables. It was a few hundred pounds more and I wanted to have the best chance, really. I suppose I just thought a few hundred extra in the grand scheme of things was ok and I suppose it worked out well. I know it sounds stupid, but I was actually pretty shocked it worked first time and it has taken a while to get used to it!

pickle162 · 22/11/2015 21:29

Congratulations getyourselfchecked :) that is what I am planning to have, after I went to the Lwc seminar just thought higher chances and a bit easier to plan dates for work etc. Good to hear a it has worked experience! Do you know what you are having?
