Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

1000 replies

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Just a quick poll then, if we're all trying for no 2, how old is number 1? My friend raised a point about it the other day - how do you deal with a toddler with a bump?

Anyone else slightly nervous about dealing with the practicalities of successful TTC? (Despite still definitely wanting to go for it!)

Windywinston · 09/09/2013 08:11

I'm not too worried to be honest. DD is 14 months and not brilliant at walking, but I'm sure we'd get by. My main worry is coping with morning sickness and the tiredness, but DD is a good sleeper so I expect I would still be able to get early nights and she'll just have to get used to mummy running off to be sick!
I am worried about coping without sleep with a newborn and toddler, but I plan to keep sending DD to nursery a couple of days a week for continuity, so I might still get to nap during the day a bit.
How about everyone else?

SoMuchFruit · 09/09/2013 08:21

jessieagain - that's very restrained of you! AF should be due on the 15th. I am usually fairly regular with only the odd blip so I plan to test on the 16th or 17th is she hasn't shown up. Until then I am trapped in symptom spotting hell I suppose.

utopian99 DS is nearly 4 now and he goes to Montessori every morning for 3hrs and next Sept he'll start school so hopefully that would make things a little easier if I had another LO. Bit chaotic first thing but overall a bit easier maybe ? Current Montessori & then Local village school that DS will attend are literally about 800m from house so not to much of a school run schlep either.

SoMuchFruit · 09/09/2013 08:22

Grammar gone to pot.

"so not *too much of a school run schlep either "

Is this a case of baby-brain ?

(Sorry. It's getting that bad)

jessieagain · 09/09/2013 08:29

Hi, mind if I join?

I have a ds (2yo) and have just started ttc this month. 12 long days before I can poas.

I'm not looking forward to a big bump with ds. Hopefully we can keep sending him to nursery part time as well and hopefully I can start maternity leave earlier this time too.

jessieagain · 09/09/2013 08:32

Oops I thought I was joining another thread! I have already posted here! Blush

Metalhead · 09/09/2013 10:30

utopian my DD is just over 3, so we're hoping for a 4-year gap. I'm dreading being pregnant to be honest as I felt really sick and tired for the first trimester last time, but I guess we'll just be watching some more DVDs if it comes to it... I also work 3 days a week so I would only have DD on my own for 2 days a week.

If all goes well she'll also be starting school next year like yours SoMuchFruit so I should get some time during the day to rest when the new baby arrives (provided he or she is a good daytime napper).

farmerswifey · 09/09/2013 10:33

utopian99 My DD has just turned 13 months, and yes I am a little apprehensive about having two under two - but I'm sure we'll muddle through. It certainly won't be boring ;)
How old is yours Utopian?

mrsSOAK · 09/09/2013 21:31

hello,
I'd like to join please!
I'm 36, DH is 30 and DD is just 4 (last week)
We took the decision to wait and enjoy having our DD before trying for #2 now I'm worrying we waited too long!
Had coil removed 13th August, AF was 5 days late first cycle. For now we are using the unscientific method of DTD every other day during what should be my fertile time, if nothing happens by Christmas we will be taking basal temperature
Finger crossed for us all!

fifi669 · 09/09/2013 21:41

My DS is 2 and 9 months. So looking at 3 1/2 year gap if we get lucky this month.

The only worry I have is DS is rather boisterous so I'll have to be super protective of my (as yet imaginary) bump!

mrsm22 · 10/09/2013 10:43

Hello to all and to our new joiners- Somuchfruit, Utopian99, and Farmerswifey! Can't believe how many have joined, it's lovely to see.
Thanks Jessieagain for sharing that info about ovulation kits and days. The only problem for me is that I have only just come off the pill and am waiting for a natural period and praying it happens soon so that I know my body has regulated itself. Like others have said, I'm getting impatient and really broody. Really want to be pregnant! We are DTD every day and other day just in case because my doctor once told me that you can ovulate and get pregnant without having a period ( probably unlikely but still worth a try) but I had my last period on the pill and was on my 7 day break which would have meant that I should have taken the pill last weds. As you are still covered by the pill on your 7 day break, does this mean I have only been off the pill for 7 days (as weds last week was Shen I would normally have started taking it again)? Very frustrating and wish now that I had come off it bloody sooner!
Somuchfruit - you started TTC in July, were you on the pill? I too have a DS and would love another boy. 38 is nothing, my cousin had her 3rd one at 39 and all fine!

I'm abit late to the party, but if its not too late can I join in?!

CooCoolite · 10/09/2013 14:37

But late to join too, but may I?

TTC #2 2cycle and currently 4dpo (I think). Have been lurking on this thread but now need to sign in as did a test this morning (stupid I know) and got a BFN. Far too early to test so hanging on for the rest of the 2ww before testing again.

Need to chat to like minded people to retain sanity, it's amazing how quickly you can get carried away!

Somuchfruit - I'm 33 and the almost youngest of my last NCT group, 2 of whom have already had number two and are 42 and 43 respectively! Agree that 38 is nothing!

AFishWithoutABicycle · 10/09/2013 14:44

Mrsm22
Sorry I missed your question.
I recovered very quickly and easily from my c section. I was able to walk the next day (a bit sore) and was sent home after 2 nights with some pain killers.
I was expecting a induced labour so lots of pain and very drawn out. However what I got was very quick pain free and I had a lovely healthy baby.
However, I would have preferred not to have one because now I am higher risk for #2 and won't be able to have a water birth or anything also I want a few kids and lots of c sections isn't a good thing.

Windywinston · 10/09/2013 18:07

Hi all.
So I thought AF randomly showed up early on CD23, just a bit brownish (sorry TMI) then light bleeding (red) CD24, but nothing since? No period symptoms. Took a test yesterday, BFN then another this afternoon (I've turned into a POAS addict) and I think there was a very very faint line (too faint to be sure). Going to try again with FMU on Thursday, but I'm convinced I can't be pregnant. It took 2 years first time round and we can't be a one shag couple now surely (there are male factor issues)? Also, I had no implantation bleeding with DD.
I'm so confused and don't want to get my hopes up as I've been prepared for it to take a while!
I'm probably just stressing over nothing.
Has anyone else experienced IB before?

farmerswifey · 10/09/2013 20:03

Hi Windywinston, I had an implantation bleed with DD1 - It was 5 days before my period was due and was very bright orangey-pink in colour and a little watery. It didn't last long, possibly an hour tops. I think they are all different though... I shall keep my fingers crossed for you.

mrsm22 · 10/09/2013 20:03

Sorry, I forgot to say hello to MrsSoaks, Coocoolite and
BetterNotBitter. Doesn't matter how late anyone joins our thread, all are very welcome. We are all in the same boat TTC number 2, no matter what stage we are at with it. Can i just say sorry to Windywinston that AF turned up for you. You must be really frustrated, but fingers crossed for you for next time!
MrsSOAK- I also really want to be pregnant by Xmas, fingers and toes crossed.
I am a little nervous about looking after a toddler and a new baby (although hard to give it REAL serious thought) as at the moment I can't imagine being pregnant. I made the mistake if bringing our DS into our bed for cuddles and so he doesn't sleep well in his own bed and I am always very tired so imagine that it will be even more tiring with another baby to look after but I think bing tired is part and parcel of being a mum. I work 3 days a week and am up very early every day as everyone else on the thread I'm sure is.But my DS is 20 months so by the time a new baby is hereby DS will hopefully be 2 not far off 3 and at 3 will probably be doing a few mornings at nursery or preschool so that should be easier. As someone else said earlier, I do worry about bring kicked accidentally by my DS in the tummy. I'm rhesus negative blood group too so especially important that I don't get bumped. Out of interest, is anyone else rhesus negative?

mrsm22 · 10/09/2013 20:18

Windywinston- sorry I forgot to mention, like Farmerswifey I also had an implantation bleed with my DS. I had come off the pill TTC and didn't have AF for a few months and then had this bleed one night very similar to how Farmerswifey described her experience and I just thought like you that it was AF but after perhaps an hour it tailed off and there was nothing more by the morning. I think some people call this 'a show' and can be a sign that you are pregnant. Good luck!

NotInYourNature · 10/09/2013 21:10

As of yesterday we are ttc number 2. My DS is 27 weeks old and im still bfing so ttc will be a tricky one as im yet to see AF

Windywinston · 10/09/2013 22:34

I'm blood type O, no posh blood here I'm afraid. So what does being Rhesus Negative mean for you in pregnancy, do you have to have injections (sorry, can't remember the name of them).
Well if implantation bleeding is a thing then maybe I'm not out of the game just yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed but try not to get my hopes up

SoMuchFruit · 11/09/2013 09:09

Thanks for the age reassurance everyone! My mum had me when she was 40 so I am hoping that 38 isn't getting a bit long in the tooth. I didn't realise so many people knew 'Older' mums. (I object to being called 'Older'.. I am only bloody 38)

A lot of my friends have no children yet and they vary between 35-39 and are only considering TTC in the next year or two so it's definitely a gathering trend (late childbearing)

mrsm22 - Yes, started at end of July this year but no, wasn't on the pill beforehand - we just avoided DTD 'that' week. Now I am not sure if we were just super successful at avoidance or there is something wrong Hmm

Am feeling fairly sure I am out this month. AF due Sunday and something makes me think I should be expecting her. I just have a feeling. Ho hum.

Although, although, I have a cold. And I don't know whether to take cold remedies or not. I am allergic to paracetamol so only take Ibuprofen - which you should not take AT ALL in pregnancy. What to do ? I am fairly sure I am not pregnant (Have not POAS, I don't POAS until I have missed AF)

mrsm22 · 11/09/2013 10:47

Morning All,

NotinYourNature - Welcome to the Party! You have only just started TTC like me (well you were yesterday and I was last Weds), it's all very exciting isn't it?! But gosh, you are starting very early! Do you want two close together?

Windywinston - It's not really posh blood, sadly it's not a great thing. Rhesus negative is the more rare blood type (although not really rare). I had no idea of my blood type until I got pregnant with DS and had my first ever blood test. What it basically means is that when you get pregnant you obvioulsy have no idea what your babies blood type will be until they are born. If my baby has the same blood type as me, then all is fine. However, when I am pregnant if I have any kind of bleed during my pregnancy or any kind of bump, I have to go to hospital within 72 hours (but as soon as poss) to have an anti D injection (nice big injection in the bum). This is to prevent any of the babies blood mixing with mine as it can cause rhesus disease to the unborn baby which can be fatal. It's not very nice at all. You have a standard anti D injection also at 28 weeks, and then straight after the birth so that you are 'hopefully' protected for your second birth. I had two bleeds when I was pregnant with my DS and had to go to hospital twice for anti D. It isn't nice at all. I think second time round it is also more risky as my DS has his dads blood type (the normal O positive) so at birth our bloods will definitely have mixed but hopefully I was given anti D after the birth. If you don't get the anti D injection your body produces anti bodies to fight the unborn babies blood and it can be very dangerous to the unborn baby. It says on my hospital discharge notes that anti D was given after the birth (i don't remember it at all) but surely they must have done if it says so on the notes.

SoMuchFruit - 38 is not old at all! I am 31 (will be 32 on 22nd of this month) but all of my firends who are 31-35 none are ready to have kids and some say not for another ten years! My Grandma had my dad at 41 0r 42 and all was fine. I think if you are still in your 30's that is best and you are. Sorry to hear you have a cold, I would stick to paracetamol just in case and i always think they are best. You only started TTC at end of July so that's not very long! I know we are all very impatient and want it to happen soon but that isn't long at all. I came off the pill mid august to try for my DS and was pregnant mid March. I know everyine is different. I am wondering when AF will come.

BetterNotBitter · 11/09/2013 10:50

Thanks!

Our little girl (now 20 months) was a very happy accident, so this is the first time we've actually been actively trying. I'm finding it a lot more consuming than I'd thought I would and I've only been off the implant for a week! I initially thought that we'd just have sex every 2-3 days until I fell pregnant, but having researched, I've just ordered ovulation tests.

I think that having just come off the implant, my cycle will be all over the place so until it regulates testing might be a more (hopefully) successful route!

fifi669 · 11/09/2013 13:11

I think better you should find that after the implant your cycles should be as regular as they were before give or take a day.

Millymolly01 · 11/09/2013 13:41

Hi I've just caught up on thread, can I join please? We are ttc#2. Came off the pill in June. DD is six so big gap for me. It happened straight away last time so bit disappointed so far. Good luck to everyone :)
