Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

greenone we've been trying to dtd every other day during what I think is my fertile window, though for various reasons it's been a bit hit and miss this month so I'm not holding out much hope for this cycle.

Last time I conceived the second month after coming off the pill, so am kind of thinking I can't be this lucky again and already dreading it taking ages as I like to be in control of everything!

Charotte31 · 06/09/2013 14:40

We Dtd on day 10,12 and 14 which was my day of ovulation ( I hope) ;) your better to dtd early rather then late. Good luck!

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 06/09/2013 15:35

mrsm I think the most important thing is to be happy with your choice, so if you're not keen on hospitals generally it might be much better for you to plan a home birth so that you are more relaxed about the whole thing while you are pregnant. I was more relaxed knowing I would be in hospital but I know lots of people feel differently. You would obviously want to consider how you would get to hospital if complications did arise while you were in labour - if you are reasonably close to a hospital then obviously you would be able to be even more relaxed about a home birth than if you had to worry about transferring if the need arose. We are getting ahead of ourselves though aren't we! But I think it's important to think about these things in advance.

With my c section I couldn't really do much at all the first couple of weeks - even getting up from a chair or bed needed help from dh the first few days. But it got a lot better very quickly and I was pushing the pram a lot within a few weeks, and was back to normal by 6 or 7 weeks post-birth (although I still get the occasional twinge). I wouldn't be at all surprised if I end up needing another CS based on my failure to progress last time and I think it will be much harder to look after a toddler than just myself after a CS. I think it should be ok as long as there are people around to help! Having had a CS, I don't think they are anything to worry about although of course you have to be aware of the recovery time and the fact that it is a full-on surgical procedure. To be honest, I'm more scared of a difficult natural birth because (as you know, unfortunately) there can be a lot of physical and emotional problems.

Sorry for the essay!

mrsm22 · 06/09/2013 19:23

DuPainDuVinDuFromage - thanks for explaining about your c section. You're right, we are definitely getting ahead of ourselves thinking about labour and birth choices! Let's wait and see what happens and when first and then we can probably all re-discuss. I'm not sure when to expect my first period (is that a BFP) as been told anything from 3 weeks to 5 months. I hope it's not 5 months!

mrsm22 · 06/09/2013 19:25

I have now found out what BFP is!

mrsm I had an emergency cs and had no problems at all. The first couple of days I was pretty sore but was driving within a week (naughty me) and as DS's biological father had naffed off I found I was able to do everything on my own near enough. I had a big travel system job so is ask a friend to take it out of the car etc but that was just to be on the safe side. After the labour I experienced I will 100% be asking for another cs!

mrsm22 · 06/09/2013 20:24

Thanks fifi669 - sounds like you had a good experience znd I'm glad it went so well for you. Are you on your 5th month of TTC? You forget so much from the first time. I'm eating very healthy and like I would if pregnant. Been having natural yoghurt every day with blueberries.

Interesting its better to be early than late with DTD. Metalhead I am exactly the same. Hate not being in control. It was quick for us with first two pregnancies so feel as if we deffo can't be so lucky a third time round!

Mrsm22 5 months??? I only read up to 3. Hope you get back into a cycle in quick time.

Charotte31 · 06/09/2013 21:07

What is BFP then??

greeneone12 · 06/09/2013 22:02

Big Fat Positive - pregnancy test

jessieagain · 06/09/2013 22:06

Hi everyone, we are trying for dc 2 as well.

Ds turned 2 in July and we started then, i was too scared to try before as i didnt want them too close together and i fell pregnant straight away with ds. Now it has been a couple of months, I'm getting impatient and starting to regret waiting Confused.

We only started properly this cycle though as my dp has been working away, but now he's home for a while so we are trying every second day.

Haven't done any temp or ovulation kit monitoring though, I had forgotten about those until I came here and started reading what others were doing. Fingers crossed I won't have to start doing those and I fall pregnant this cycle.

I have just been guessing but I suspect I ovulated in the last week, so hopefully I'm on my 2 week wait now! Good luck everyone!

Charotte31 · 07/09/2013 07:39

Oh thanks greeneone!
Your story sounds Jessie my DD turned 2 in July and I felt the same to scared to have a new born and a toddler! We started ttc in June and like you I'm so impatient now! Fingers crossed for us this month! When is your AF due? Mine is on the 11th.

mrsm22 · 07/09/2013 19:35

Hi Jessie again! My DS is not 2 until end of December. It really confuses me on here when everyone can work out dates when they're ovulating and when the fertile times are etc as I have absolutely no idea! Is it usually just before or after AF that you are most fertile? I have only just stopped taking the pill and started TTC this month so have no idea when AF is due or when it will come, but hoping soon as I'd like to know the hormones were out of my system and that my body is regulating itself. Before AF appears I'm guessing that I can't/won't get pregnant. I also haven't ever tried an ovulation kit so not sure how they work.

OP posts:
mrsm22 · 07/09/2013 19:38

Greenone12- thanks, think it is meant to be up to 3 months for AF to appear after stopping the pill. It's just a waiting game for me at the mo. I was quite irregular before going on the pill, I think it was every 7 or 8 weeks so when I found out I was pregnant with my DS I was already 7 weeks pregnant.

My ovulation app tells me when the best time to DTD is.

fifi669 · 07/09/2013 20:50

Cycle days 14-19 my app says are my most fertile period. That's based on my average cycle length of 29 if that helps mrsm

farmerswifey · 07/09/2013 20:50

Hello ladies, it's lovely to read everyone's stories.

Hubby and I started trying to conceive our second little one this morning. DD1 is 13 months, I'm halfway through my cycle and AF is due on the 21st. Not holding out much hope for this month, but it's good that we've made the decision to start trying for number 2.

I'm still breastfeeding DD, does anyone know if this affects fertility?

fifi669 · 07/09/2013 22:15

Yes it does reduce fertility. It's supposed to be natures way of making sure you can feed the child you have before making another. Though by now you can't be feeding that much so i guess it's effects will be less?

jessieagain · 07/09/2013 22:33

mrsm there is loads of info about working out your own personal ovulation times. My cycle is slightly longer then average and also slightly irregular so I tend to make an educated guess as I get some sharp cramping and noticible changes to cm (sorry for tmi!). For me it tends to be around day 12-17. What we did to conceive ds was that we tried every second day and I fell pregnant that first month. Fingers crossed it works for us this time too.

charlotte not long for you to wait. My af is due between the 19th - 23th roughly (annoying irregular cycles Hmm)

farmerswify I'm still breastfeeding my 2 year old, but he is finishing up now, down to one feed a day (sometimes none!) It isn't supposed to make a difference to ferility if you get your periods. I hope that is right!

I'm getting really impatient waiting now. And for the first time since before ds I am getting proper broody! So I hope that's a good sign.

utopian99 · 08/09/2013 09:11

Will go back and read up thread but may I join? D's is 8 months, I have just turned 31, and as of today dh and I decided to get started on TTC dc2!

Both very excited, hoping for a small age gap, and dh convinced he has super sperm as dc1 happened in 2 months. I'm more nervous as I know a few people who had 1 easily then struggled so would nice to be here with some others!!

SoMuchFruit · 08/09/2013 11:45

Hi All,

We started to TTC #2 in July. So this is Cycle 2 and I am in the 2nd week of this 2WW.

DS is nearly 4 now, I wasn't sure about another baby - preg last time was traumatic and although I had a great labour/birth with little issue I now realise I suffered from PND - at the time I didn't realise. So I wasn't sure about another then suddenly I was overcome with the urge to have a 2nd (and if it happens, probably last, as I am 38)

Much as I am trying to be laid back about this I am symptom spotting like a nutjob. Scrutinising every little thing. As is OH which is funny. DS was a semi-surprise and it was all very easy. Not so sure this time.

Good luck to all, who else is in the 2WW ? Anyone want to symptom spot neurotically with me ?

jessieagain · 08/09/2013 12:05

somuchfruit yes! I have only just started the 2ww and already and obsessing about symptoms, can't help it...... Main one at the moment it frequent need to wee! Which is probably mostly psychological Blush

SoMuchFruit · 08/09/2013 12:13

LOL jessieagain - we can be obsessive together!

I've just listed mine on the other bus thread.. I have had random nausea attacks, silly swollen and sore boobs and now sore twinges. All probably mean wind but .. the obsessiveness is transforming these into 'symptoms' ..

When are you planning to POAS ?

jessieagain · 08/09/2013 12:20

somuchfruit nausea attacks?! That would have me convinced Grin Actually that is something I had forgotten about, not looking forward to that at all.

My cycles are slightly longer than average and also slightly irregular Hmm so my 2 ww is actually more like 2.5 weeks, so I have decided to make my poas day the 20th.

Windywinston · 08/09/2013 23:23

Well here I am day 23 of 30 day cycle and blummin AF has shown up! WTH????
That's 2 cycles in a row now, previously I've been so regular. I'm very confused.
I hope everyone has had a good weekend.
